"She asked me if she was pretty

Well, it's clear that the girl's a fraud

There's really no way of winning

If in their eyes you'll always be a dumb blonde

And she cried over nothing

So there was nothing I could do to stop

Her from cutting

Her beautiful blue hair off"

"Blue Hair"-Tv Girl

โœงห–ยฐสš๐Ÿ“ษžโ™ก

Two girls sit together, hands intertwined, faint blush dusting their cheeks. The butterflies emerge from young love.

"(Y/N)?"

The taller girl spoke up, squeezing the hand of her new girlfriend.

"Yes?"

The other girl responded, teasing slightly, despite the blush coating her face.

They would joke back and forth, a normal occurrence between the two. Whether it was the topic of who was the imposter from among us, or what outfits to use while bullying kids in Bloxburg on Roblox.

Having been friends for years, it was only time before feelings began to rise.

"Do you think I make a good rizz face?"

The girl with (h/c) hair snorted. "Duh. What about mine?"

"It could use some work, but you're getting there. Soon you'll have astronomical rizz."

She playfully rolls her eyes in reply. "Whatever, we both know I have more rizz than you. Did you check the discord chat, Liz?"

"Yeah. Look at what I sent you."

"You have got to be kidding- I know you didn't just send a photo of Sonic with his feet out."

"Lmfao. Sorry babe, I was feeling devious."

Conversations would go on like this. However, days would turn into months, months into years, and eventually, things end.

She never believed that her first love, the one person who was interested in her and didn't judge her looks, was the person that would leave. She left without a word, not even a goodbye, treating her like she didn't exist. Even after dating for three years, and being friends for longer.

Soon one person became people, and then she had no one left. From having tons of friends to no one at all.

Time passed like usual, but things only got worse. Any small interaction, even if someone was just asking for a pencil, would make her feel nice and fuzzy, but only for a moment. Sadness would return only a second later. That's how lonely she was.

But, she would rather not exist, than have no one at all.

โœงห–ยฐสš๐Ÿ“ษžโ™ก

You awoke to a throb coming from your head. Beneath your fingers, you could feel dirt and grass, not cement. Something wasn't right.

Opening your eyes, you took in your surroundings. You were no longer in a shady alleyway, but rather in a deep forest, allowing little to no light in.

'What?'

You began to panic. Why were you in a random forest?

'Where am I? Where's Anne, Sasha, and Marcy?'

Suddenly, your memory came running back to you.

"That music box! The last thing I remember was watching Anne open the music box before everything went black!"

However, your panic only increased when you realized your friends were nowhere to be found.

'Okay. Calm down. I'm in a completely different place surrounded by who knows what, alone. It could be worse.'

Deciding that standing around would do no good, you began walking through the forest in an attempt to find your friends.

Things only got scarier as you walked through the thick forest.

In the corner of your eye, you spotted an old pillar.

"What is this doing here?"

Curious, you put your hand on the pillar, only to let go when the ground started rumbling.

'An earthquake?'

Cracks formed in the mud, and the ground you were standing on started to lift.

"Wha-!"

You stumbled backwards to get away, falling and scratching yourself in the process.

An old-looking temple arose from the ground, sporting gold accents and a star-shaped symbol on the front.

"Woah..."

You stared at the building dumbfounded, still shocked by what just happened. Warm liquid dripping down your forehead brought you out of your shock.

"Is this- Blood?"

You touched the warm substance, to see the familiar red color. The throb from your head increased.

'Wow. How great. Now I'm bleeding.'

Rolling your eyes, you got up, ignoring the sting from all the scratches on your body.

"I guess this means I should explore."

You made your way up the steps of the temple. A grand door covered in different gold messages and designs stood in front of you, an eerie feeling surrounding it. However, that didn't stop you.

Using slight force, you pushed the doors open. A cool breeze hit you in the face, a contrast to the humid forest.

The temple was oddly empty, except for the paintings on the walls and the pedestal in the center. A book sitting on the pedestal caught your eye.

Walking forward, you examined the book.

'Wait- Is that the book from the library?'

Everything about the book was the same, so you flipped through the pages. However, four new sections caught your attention. These sections each had one tab, a blue one, a green one, a red one, and a gold one.

'This wasn't here before. Hold on, how did this get out of my bag?'

You checked your bag to make sure, and as you expected, the book wasn't in there.

'Weird.'

The blue tab started to glow slightly. You noticed this and flipped to where the blue started. It was a blank page, but as soon as you touched it, words began to appear on the page, as if the book was writing itself.

'Excuse me- What was that?'

You yanked your hand back. The blue began to glow brighter, and you hesitated before touching the page again. Your vision became blurry. Reaching out to steady yourself, you put your other hand on the book.

The letters on the pages flashed blue, and everything around you changed.ย

โœงห–ยฐสš๐Ÿ“ษžโ™ก

Multiple voices caused you to stir awake. You opened your eyes and slowly got up.

By the looks of it, your settings had changed, but you still had the book in your hands. Now, you were in a small forest before a small town, full of even smaller citizens.

Frogs.

Startled, you fell backwards and almost dropped the book.

"Oh, my god."

Amphibians.

"There is no fucking way."

A bustling town full of farmer frogs selling produce among other things.

"I've never smoked in my life but I have to be high."

Despite your loud outbursts, no one gave you a passing glance.

'Can they...see me?'

Deciding to answer your questions, you stepped out from behind a tree and approached a small teal frog holding an accordion. You hesitated for a second but went to tap him on the shoulder anyway.

Your hand went right through him.

"WHAT?!"

Shocked, you ran away from the frog and hid behind another tree. Amid your panicking, you noticed the gem on your book glowing, so you decided to push it.

To test if something happened, you slowly stepped out from behind the tree and reproached the frog.

Carefully, you tapped your finger on its shoulder, and it didn't go through.

"Yes!" You celebrated.

The frog turned around to look at you, and in a split second, it started screaming.

"AAAH!"

It bolted away out of the woods, leaving you standing there, confused.

"The Zaza I'm on must be strong as hell. Because what just happened."

โœงห–ยฐสš๐Ÿ“ษžโ™ก

The village inhabitants go about their daily lives. A slug appears carrying a cart with an old frog, a young frog, and a tadpole.

The older frog speaks up. "Ho. Ho. All right, kids I'm gonna do a little shoppin'. You watch the cart."

"You got it, Hop Pop! I'll defend this cart with my LIIIIIIIFE!" The younger frog begins pounding his chest like a gorilla.

"Sprig, I was talking to Polly."

"What? Polly's a baby!"

Polly points at Sprig. "You're a baby!"

"Polly's got more responsibility in her little flipper than you have in your entire body!"

Sprig gasps, offended. "Ridiculous. What makes you think I'm irresponsible?"

"Oh gee. Let me think. What about that time you made dinner explode because you put something in it, or when you crashed through a wall in the house while I was sleeping, or when you left the lights on at night?"

"Okay. So yesterday was a bad day."

"Mm-hmm. Polly, make sure Sprig stays in the cart." Hop-pop gets off the cart and goes inside the Grub-and-Go.

Sprig sighs."Wish there was a way to prove I'm not such a goof-up."

A teal frog runs out of the woods screaming. "Monsters! Th-there's monsters in the woods! I seen it! I seen it!"

A crowd of villagers forms, including the mayor, "Now, simmer down Wally. Just tell us what you saw."

Wally panics. "Oh, it was horrifying. They had a huge head, A weird, stubby bump right in the middle of its face and long spindly limbs!"

Everyone gasps.

"Obscene!"

"We better catch this beast before it hurts somebody. Because for Mayor Toadstool, your safety comes first."

"Well, it's the responsible thing to do." Wally nods.ย

โœงห–ยฐสš๐Ÿ“ษžโ™ก

"Polly, I just had a great idea. I am going to catch that beast and save the town."

Polly puts one of her flippers up, "Stop right there! Hop Pop said that you had to stay in this cart." She flexes her muscles. "You know you can't take me!"

"Oh, oh, Polly, look," Sprig grabs candy from out of his shirt pocket. "Candy!"

"Bribe accepted!"

Sprig runs off into the forest, "Let the monster hunt begin!"

"Don't die!"

โœงห–ยฐสš๐Ÿ“ษžโ™ก

"Seems like the beast roams these parts. Probably a good place for a tra-aaAAAAHHH!" Sprig gets caught in a rope trap and flies into the air then falls upside down.

Sounds of leaves crinkling and moving come from some bushes.

"Hm?"

A beast steps out from behind some bushes, and it's revealed to be a dishevelled human girl. She is panting and holding a pointed stick.

"Caught ya! Thought you got the best of ol' Anne, eh? Well, you didn't!"

Sprig gasps. "Giant head! Spindly limbs! Face bump! THE BEEEEAASST!"

"Stop following me."

"I have bad news for you, beast! I taste terrible!"

Anne puts the stick down. "Ew, I am not gonna eat you."

"You tried to eat Wally!"

"I tried to ask 'Wally' for help. He ran off screaming the second he saw me!"

"That does sound like Wally..."

A monster-sounding screech is heard. Trees start falling over.

"It's coming back!"

"What is?"

Anne groans and runs off, leaving Sprig tied up.

"Where are you going?"

The monster screeches again. Sprig flails about, screaming, and starts to gnaw on the rope to free himself. The monster screeches again and Sprig stops chewing the rope and screams. Anne frowns and cuts him free. She grabs him and starts running.

"Whoop, here we go."

Anne and Sprig duck under a log. The monster- a giant red mantis- passes by. Sprig and Anne gasp and fall to the ground.

"You... you saved me! You're not a beast at all! You're a hero! An ugly, ugly, ugly hero!"

Anne rolls her eyes. "Call me ugly again, and maybe I will eat you."

"Ha. You're not gonna eat me. You got a name, stranger?"

"My name's Anne. Anne Boonchuy."

"I'm Sprig Plantar! Put 'er there!" He holds out his hand for Anne to shake.

"Uhh... okay..." She shakes his hand. Her hand becomes covered in slime.

"So... your hand just barfed on my hand."

Anne rubs off the slime. Her stomach grumbles, and as she sighs.

"Okay, "Sprig". You got anything to eat?"

"Sure do!" He lifts a section of the log and bugs are crawling around underneath.

"Things that aren't bugs...?"

"No bugs, eh? We'll have to hunt around a bit," Sprig runs off, "C'mon! Follow me!"

"How do I know I can trust you?"

Sprig gasps and makes a cute face. "Whaaat? Does this look like a face that could deceive you?"

Anne laughs. "Yeah, I guess not."

"Well, then, c'mon!" Sprig grabs her arm, startling her. "Chow time!" He begins to run off, Anne following behind.

โœงห–ยฐสš๐Ÿ“ษžโ™ก

Hop-pop hums. "Huh?"

"Now, when I say "kill," you say "it." Kill!"

"It!"

"Kill."

"It!"

"Heh. Another day, another mob." Hop-pop begins to look behind him. "Come on kids, time to- What the?!?"

He finds a sugar-high Polly, and they make eye contact.

"I don't have a candy problem! You have a candy problem!"

"Polly, where's Sprig?"

"Uh... something-something monster, something-something woods."

Wally walks up to Hop-pop. "Oh, if your boy went into the woods, he's as good as eaten. That beast will devour everything in its path."

"Not on my watch! Hang in there boy! Hop Pop's a-comin'!" Hop-pop picks up Polly and runs into the forest.

The mob of villagers follows suit. "Yeah!"

Wally yells aloud, "Harvest the toenails for medicinal purposes!"

โœงห–ยฐสš๐Ÿ“ษžโ™ก

Sprig dumps a bunch of food in front of Anne, the variety mostly containing mushrooms. Anne picks up a pink branch like food and eats it.

"Hey, this is pretty good."

"Mm-hmm. So, first question: What the heck are you, and where did you come from?!"

"I'm a human being and I come from...another world!" Anne shouts, adding a dramatic effect to her story before stopping, "Either that or this is a dream."

"Woooow... do you know how you got here?"

"Nope. One minute, I was in my world and the next thing I knew I was here. I don't know how to get home or if I even can go home. So, yup, that's my story. How 'bout you? What were you doing in the woods?"

"Proving that I'm responsible!"

Anne smirks playfully, "Oh, yeah? How?"

"Uhhhhh..."

Anne and Sprigs' conversation is suddenly interrupted by a familiar blue frog.

"There they are!"

The Mayor steps in."Here come our boys."

"What? Stay away from me!" Anne yells as she is tied up by the villagers.

Sprig panics and tries to resolve the situation, unsuccessfully. "No! You guys got it all wrong!"

Hop-pop stepped up from behind Sprig and placed a hand on his shoulder.

"Ha-ha! You caught the monster! Sprig I'm impressed"

Anne frowns. "Dude, what the heck? You set me up? I thought we were connecting!"

"N-no, no, no! This wasn't my plan."

A green praying mantis appears from behind the greenery of the forest and roars, startling everyone.

The mayor gives out orders, "Hurry! Everyone! Mantis formation!"

All of the villagers get into formation, scaring the praying mantis away. Only for a moment though, as a red praying mantis lands in front of the group, larger than the first.

Polly states blankly, "Nope. That scared it off."

The praying mantis screeches and hits a bunch of villagers.

Unbeknownst to everyone, you had witnessed it all, and seeing your friend about to be eaten ignited something within you. Mostly rage and anger.

You run out from behind the trees and grab the pocket knife from your bag. Running to Anne's side, you begin to untie her.

Anne thrashes around, panicked, only to realize she was being untied. "NO! Huh?"

Looking up, Anne immediately recognized the person untying her.

"(Y/N)!"

You smiled and continued to cut through the rope, ignoring the chaos that was currently happening.

Anne was beyond relieved to see you, a faint blush coating her cheeks at the proximity of the both of you.

"Thank god you're okay- I was so worried!"

"It's good to see you too, Anne. But let's save reunions for later, right now we have a mantis to take down."

You removed the rope from Anne and reached out a hand to help her up, which she gladly took.

Sprig runs up to the both of you, receiving an annoyed look from Anne. His face morphed into one of surprise.

"Another Anne?"

You smiled and waved at the small frog boy.

Anne frowned, upset. "Why are you here? Back to trick me again?"

Sprig shook his head. "I have an idea of how to beat that thing. I'll distract it. You two get out of here."

You were about to stop him, but it was already too late. Sprig had already run off, and by the looks of it, was about to anger the mantis.

"Hey!"

'Oh no.'

Sprig slingshots a rock at the mantis, hitting it on the head and successfully provoking it.

"Ha-ha! Oops."

The praying mantis shrieks out of anger and moves to attack Sprig.

"Aaah!"

You and Anne both look at each other and nod, then move to hold the praying mantises' arm.

Anne yells at Sprig, "Do something!"

"Oh, right! On it. Here we go."

Sprig grabs the rope left on the ground and runs around the mantis with it.

"Round. Loop."

Unfortunately, the knot wasn't tight enough, so you and Anne grabbed the other end of the rope and pulled it, tying up the mantis. The creature shrieks and dies.

'Thank god.'

The villagers and the mayor celebrate.

"It's down!"

"We did it!"

Anne raised her hand for a high five from you and Sprig. "Up top!"

Sprig high-fives Anne with his tongue and Anne shudders. "Oh, boy that's gross."

You giggle and grab Anne's hand. As you were about to say something, the mayor interrupted you.

"Well, now that that's settled, what the heck are we gonna do with these things? Maybe we oughta run them out of town just to be safe. Let them be someone else's problem."

'Rude smh.'

The villagers start to mob together and Sprig jumps in front of you and Anne.

"Stop right there! They're not monsters. They're just lost and need our help. We should take care of them."

'Aww.'

The mayor looked flabbergasted. "Are you crazy?"

Wally yells, "Yeah. What if it goes nutty tomorrow and starts eating people?"

"Not gonna happen, buddy." Anne says, and you shake your head in agreement.

"Don't worry yourselves silly. I'll keep an eye on 'em, both of 'em."

You turn your head to see an older-looking frog.

The mayor gives the frog a skeptical look. "Hmm. Have it your way, Hopediah Plantar, but I don't like it. All right boys pack it in."

Sprig frowns and looks at Hop-pop. "Looks like I'm back to causing trouble for the family again, huh?"

"Trouble? Sprig, standing up to that angry mob to help this creature out was... Some of the bravest and most responsible stuff I've ever seen!" Hop-pop smiles at him.

Polly speaks from atop Hop-pop's head. "That was pretty cool, Sprig. It was also really dumb!"

"Yes. Really, really dumb."

Sprig gasps in amazement. "You think I'm responsible?"

Hop Pop tries to make Sprig understand he meant something else, while Spring enthuses and Anne checks her phone.

"Well, yeah, I mean, just this one time..."

"Yes! Woo hoo!"

Sprig starts to perform a victory dance.

"Well, don't get carried away..."

"Big win!"

Anne grabs your hand and speaks up, while you blush at the sudden contact. "Welp, this has been great, but just give me a map. I've gotta find my way out of this kooky place."

"Oh, a map won't be enough. This here valley is surrounded by mountains that are impenetrable this time of year."

Sprig looks at you and Anne. "It should clear up in a couple of months."

'Excuse me.'

"But until then, you try to cross those mountains-"

Polly cuts Hop-pop off. "You will die."

You begin to grow nervous and Anne expresses her annoyance. "Are you telling me I'm stuck in this crazy place for two months? Where am I gonna stay?"

โœงห–ยฐสš๐Ÿ“ษžโ™ก

The kind amphibians you had met in the forest, Hop-pop, Sprig, and Polly, also known as the Plantars, were kind enough to let you and Anne stay with them. In the basement, of course.

You and Anne are currently making yourselves comfortable in said basement. It is now nighttime.

Hop-pop sticks his head out of the door. "All righty. Kitchen's upstairs. Breakfast at sunrise, sharp."

Anne nods and you smile. "Okay. Thanks, dude,"

"Thank you Mr.Plantar."

"No need for formalities, dear. Goodnight you two."

'He's surprisingly nice.'

"Hey! Gettin' comfy?"

You turn your head to see Sprig, who's setting some plushies on the floor.

"Brought some toys to keep you both company. I'm too old for these," He pauses before picking up the plushies, "O-oh, except for this one. Oh, and this one. Oops, this one too. Sorry. This one as well. I'm glad you're livin' with us, monsters."

Anne grins and rolls her eyes. "Yeah, Me too, weird little frog boy."

You giggle at Sprig, entertained by his silly, but thoughtful actions.

"Okay."

He climbs up the stairs dropping a plushie in the process. "Good night. Sleep tight. Don't let the bedbugs bite. Seriously, they can drain a body in seconds."

"Ew!"

'Lmfaoo what.'

You walk to your side of the room and unpack your things. On the other side, Anne takes out the calamity box. You walk next to her and sit as she attempts to teleport with the box again.

Nothing happens.

Anne sighs in disappointment. "Looks like we're gonna be here for a while."

You frown and grab her hand in reassurance, rubbing circles into it with your thumb. Anne calms down immediately and gives you a grateful smile.

"Everything's gonna be ok. We'll find Marcy and Sasha and go back home. But I'm the meantime, at least we have each other."

"You're right. We'll find them."

Deciding it was time to go to bed, you went back over to your mattress and laid down, then motioned for Anne to follow you.

She does, but not without turning red.

Anne sits next to you hesitantly, and you laugh.

"Chill, I'm not gonna bite you."

She blushed even harder and you wrap your arm around her waist.

"Sharing a bed will keep body heat. It's like having a sleepover." You gave her a goofy smile.

Anne lays down next to you, and you wrap your other arm around her waist and begin to cuddle her.

Not long after, you're already asleep.

Her face resembled a tomato. She eventually calmed down and melted into your touch.

Anne wished things could always be like this, but with you around, it was already bound to happen.

Both of you slept peacefully, despite being in a completely new world full of frogs. But the thing you didn't realize, is that your entire adventure had made its way onto the pages of that golden book.
