Chapter Three: I Regret It
August 23rd 2021
It's been a week since me and Sofia's kiss. We've gone on a few low key dates, kissed a few more times and it felt like old times. I had forgotten how addicting her laugh was, but hearing it over the past week has made me fall for her all over again. It made me realize I missed everything about her.
I was heading to the set of Sofia's new movie to surprise, and I also wanted to see her in action. Once I figured out where to go from security, I headed towards Sofia's trailer.I had mentioned to Paulina and Zac that I was going to surprise her, and they made sure to let me know how to navigate the set they were on today.
I was excited to see her and to see her in character.I walked around the large area and finally found the trailers all lined up. I spot Paulina and Zac waiting for me. A male figure appears out of my peripheral vision, and I can tell he isn't paying attention to where he's going. He bumps into me slightly and looks at me a bit annoyed. I recognize him from the club and he definitely has similar features as the guy who kissed Sofia that night too."Watch where you're going," he stops and looks at me once over.
"Oh you must be Jamie," he has a thick British accent and sticks his hand for me to shake. "I'm Nick, I work with Sofia. She's told me a lot about you," he smirks and I ignore his hand.I cross my arms, and look him over. Not exactly liking him and the air of arrogance that surrounds him.
"Yeah, I am," I state, but Nick cuts me off.
"So, is it weird to see Sofia kissing and sleeping with someone else?" Nick says with a smirk on his face.
I just look at him blankly, not saying a word. I see Paulina and Zac past Nick's head and they're slowly approaching the situation.
"You know, I had sex with her. It was earlier last week. We were hanging out and one thing led to another. She's really great" Nick's arrogant smirk grows and he steps a bit closer towards me.
"You're missing out, Marine. Should've stuck around longer to find out how great she is in bed," his voice goes low, I guess not wanting anyone to know this but me.
"What did you say?" I clenched my fist into a ball, Nick looks down at my hand and smirks even more.
"I said I had sex with Sofia," he says it a bit slower this time. "I gotta say she has a great body-" Before he could say anything else, I punched him right in the jaw.
Nick takes a swing next and connects with my jaw, making me stumble back a little.
"Those soft lips against mine," Nick says, as he touches his lip humming like they're still on his.
I throw another punch, but Nick moves out of the way. He throws a punch to my stomach making me lose my footing and stumbling onto my back.
Nick hovers over me, connecting his fist to my face and making my lip bust open. Zac quickly runs over to us and pulls Nick off me. Paulina helps me to my feet. My head pounded so loud I didn't notice the crowd forming around us.
I just glare at Nick, as security walks over to us, grabbing me by collar, pulling me along to the entrance. The guard pushes me out, and I wipe the blood off my bottom lip. I take my keys out of my pockets, unlocking the door. I hear someone behind me. I turn around to see an angry Sofia, hands on her hips and a look that could make me drop dead right here on this pavement.
"What were you thinking?!" Sofia starts, as she walks over to me. I shove my hands into my pockets and hang my head. Ashamed for letting him get me so worked up, I punched him. I quickly remember what he said and how Sofia's been toying with my feelings
"You know what, whatever this is," I gesture between us, "I was clearly wrong, we're done. I can't do this." I fling my car door open and turn to see a shocked Sofia, "Good luck to you and that English prick because whatever was happening between us," I pause once more and sigh, "I'm done." I get into my car, putting my key in the ignition.
Sofia frantically knocks on my window. I roll it down but keep my focus forward. "Jamie, what do you mean?" Sofia sounds hysterical as tears fall down her eyes.
"Don't act like you didn't fuck him, Sofia!" I raise my voice and scoff. "I should've just left with Jessica that night at the club, but no I went and let you get back into my head. I was so stupid to think you still had feelings for me," I face forward, not looking at her. Nick's words are playing on repeat in my head. Without another word, I leave the parking lot not wanting another scene to develop. I reach the first red light and grab my phone from my pocket. I go to my contacts and find her number.
"Hey, Jamie. Everything okay?" Jessica's voice fills my car. "Hey Jess, are you home?" I get straight to the point.
Sofia's POV
I watch as Jamie takes off from the parking lot. I run my fingers through my hair frustrated with this whole situation. Taking a deep breath, I head back to set. I make my way back towards my trailer and I could see Nick was standing there talking to the security guard. He spots me, and completely ignores the security guard.
I step into my trailer and Nick is hot on my tail.
"Hey, did your Marine leave?" Nick asks, making his way into my small trailer bathroom to clean his face.
"What happened?" I ask him, crossing my arms against my chest and leaning against the small counter.
"Oh your Marine is crazy Sof," he starts off and I don't know where he's going with this.
"He saw me and punched me for no reason. The dude can't even punch to save his life. I mean I was just telling him the truth," Nick states, shrugging his arms.
"That's absolute bullshit Nicholas! Zac and I heard you and Jamie talking," Paulina lets the door slam behind her and Zac, and she looks furious.
"I'm not talking to you. I'm talking to Sofia," Nick says through clenched teeth. He looks back at me with a forced smile.
"No, tell my sister the truth," Paulina seethes, ignoring what Nick just said to her.
"You told Jamie that you and Sofia slept together. You got in his face and kept spewing lies and that's why he punched you," Paulina says looking at Nick. His eyes widen and I can tell he's quickly trying to figure out how to change up whatever story he was conjuring up.
Nick scoffs and looks over at Paulina and Zac, "No, I didn't." He crosses his arm defensively,
"Plus it's not like he's gonna be around? Mr. Marine won't be able to give what Sofia wants. He's gonna be away a lot and a relationship shouldn't be like that." Nick turns back to me.
"You don't need him, that's what I told him. You guys wouldn't have worked out right? You guys didn't work out the first time, right? That's why he left the first time," Nick gets closer to me and I just fiddle with my bracelet. A bracelet Jamie gave me for my birthday before he left for the Marine Corps. I stare at Nick for a moment and then look at Paulina and then back at Nick. I'm left without any words. On one hand, Nick isn't wrong. Jamie and I probably wouldn't work out since he gets deployed for long periods of time, and even if he is home it doesn't guarantee that I'll be available. On the other hand, I know if Jamie and I really wanted to make it work we'd figure it out. That's what you do when you truly love someone. You go to the ends of the earth for them. I realize Nick has gotten closer to me and is practically pressing me further against the counter I was leaning on.
"It's not like you guys were dating, plus we have an undeniable chemistry. It would be a shame to waste time on some Marine who left you alone all those years ago," Nick states as he puts his arms on either side of my body, inching closer to my face.
"That Marine has a name and it's Jamie, and back off my sister," Paulina stands next to me, crossing her arms, glaring at him.
"She didn't say anything last week though," Nick said with a smirk.
"First off, you and Sofia didn't even sleep together it was for the fucking movie," Pauline states and I can tell my little sister is pissed off now. "Second, that kiss at the club wasn't reciprocated. Sofia left the moment she saw Jamie bolting to leave," Paulina recalls.
Flashes of that night float across my mind and remembering Jamie and I's kiss in the rain felt like something out of a romantic movie.
"I don't see why this is any of your business, Paulina," Nick says, matching Paulina's stance and freeing me from the counter top.
"Jamie's practically family and you don't mess with family. You knew you were messing with his feelings when you said those things, especially since Sofia has talked to you about him before," Paulina's anger is raging at this point and I'm not going to stop her.
"Also, you made it seem like she was just stringing him along this whole time, when she hasn't," she lets out a long breath, barely breathing between words.
"If Sofia cared so much about Jamie as you say, why isn't she trying to get in contact with him? Seems pretty clear who your sister knows will be best for her career," Nick comes to my side and slowly lets his hand run across my back. He rests it on my hip and my skin is crawling from the unwanted contact.
"Plus, he's probably getting underneath some other chick to forget about his precious princess," Nick's words not only disgust me, but I know Jamie. He wouldn't do something so rash, right?
"You don't know Jamie like we do," Paulina steps closer and pushes Nick away to get his hands off me. Nick has a fire in his eyes as Paulina starts to move towards the trailer door. Before I know it, Nick pushes Paulina into the corner of the counter and I watch her hip connect with it. Zac and I rush to check over her, and she waves me off knowing I'm about to lay into Nick.
"That's enough! Nicholas, don't ever put your hands on my little sister ever again," I get in his face and he stumbles back a bit.
"I don't want to hear about you speaking to Jamie ever again. Even if we aren't together, I care about Jamie a lot. You pushing my sister into the corner was the icing on the cake of the already horrendous things you've said about Jamie," I pause and take a breath. I point towards the door, "Nick, leave."
"Oh come on Sof, you know we'd be good together," Nick ignores my wishes.
"Your fans seem to think so as well. I don't know why you're fighting this," Nick steps closer to me, but I place my hand on his chest to keep space between us.
"You think you and your Marine friend have this amazing connection, but I can see it in your eyes. You and him don't have what we have. I can feel it in the way we kiss on set that you want this too," Nick adds as he places his hands on my waist.
Zac helps Paulina and gets her an ice pack. After he hands her the ice back, he opens the trailer door for Nick to leave.
"She said get out, so get out man," Zac says, looking over at Nick. Nick eventually leaves the trailer and I release a breath I hadn't realized I was holding.
"Hey Pau, you okay?" Zac asks as he closes the door.
"Yeah, I'm fine," Paulina waves him off as she looks through her phone, trying to contact Jamie.
"Jamie isn't answering my calls, should we go to his place? Or..." Paulina asks, looking over at me for confirmation. I take out my phone, going on Jamie's contact and pressing the phone to my ear. The phone dials a few times before going to voicemail,
"Hey, it's me. Please call me back. Please, Jay."
We decided to head to Jamie's place since ignoring Paulina's phone calls isn't normal for him. We knock on the door and wait for someone to answer the door. Kim appears, confused but let's us inside anyways.
"What's up, guys? Not that I don't love unexpected visitors, but what's up?" She crosses her arms as I scan the room looking for any sign that Jamie was here.
"Kim, is your brother here?" I look at Kim and she nods her head. "Yeah, he's in his room, but he has a friend over," she tries stopping me, but I get past her.
"Sofia, I wouldn't go in there if I were you," Kim says, trying to grab my arm.
"Why not? " I turn and look at her confused.
"He has someone over," Kim explains as best she could without mentioning who it could be.
"Just please, it's best if you don't go back there," Kim warns once more, but I continue to ignore her. I hear soft moans coming through Jamie's door and I feel bile rising in my throat. I shake off the feeling and push the door open. The two bodies are quick to part. Jamie looks at me with both confusion and anger. Jessica looks disheveled as she pulls the sheet close to her chin. The bile rising in my throat quickly turns to pain and I fight tears back. He's not worth the tears nor does he deserve to see them shed over him.
"Sof," he fumbles over his words and I push past Paulina and Kimberly who are standing close behind me.
I make it to the front door, but a hand shoots out and tries stopping me. Without thinking, I quickly turn around and slap Jamie's cheek. He lets go of my hand and I head straight to the car.
"Sofia, please," Jamie comes racing out and stops me from opening the car door.
"Nick was right," I say in between sniffles and can't believe I thought Jamie would be different.
"What?" Jamie scoffs, crossing his arms.
"Nick said that you'd be getting with some other girl because you're just like every other guy. I didn't want to believe him, but I guess he was right," I wipe some tears on my face and already know my makeup from earlier is smeared.
"You think that prick knows anything about me? You had sex with him while we were actively seeing each other. What difference does it make that I decided to do the same thing?" Jamie shrugs and I feel a twinge of pain that he truly believes I didn't care about him.
"And you're really gonna believe him over someone you've known practically your whole life? You had so little faith in me and turned to the nearest girl who could fuck! I guess I don't know who you are anymore," I say, frustrated that more tears are streaming down my face again.Jamie refuses to look at me and lets out a loud sigh, looking at his bare feet.
"It's not like you gave a fuck about us anyway, Sof," Jamie mutters under his breath.
"Not once did you try getting in contact with me when I was away,." Jamie adds, finally meeting my eyes. I see a twinge of sadness behind his eyes and it breaks my heart a bit.
"It was always Paulina. She was always asking me where I was or what I was doing. Always making sure that I was okay. After I moved, it felt like Paulina cared more about me than you ever did," Jamie chokes out, and I can tell he's fighting back some tears.
"You know what? I asked for a few days off to surprise you and spend time with you when you weren't filming, but I was stupid enough to think you'd actually had feelings for me. You were with another guy this whole time," he pauses and scoffs.
"I was in love with you Sofia. I still am! Clearly, we're both better off. You deserve the world and even though seeing you with someone else will kill me, I just want you to be happy" Jamie says, looking away as I could see tears starting to slide down his cheeks.
"Goodbye, Sof." He wipes his eyes and steps closer to me. He kisses the top of my hairline and heads back inside.
Jamie's POV
I walk back inside and avoid the three sets of eyes watching my every move. I reach my room and see Jess still under the covers on her phone. As good of a friend Jess has been for me the past few years, I shouldn't have turned to her in this moment of desperation. Hopefully we can keep it amicable when we're back with Echo Company. I let out a small sigh taking a seat on the edge of my bed. I feel light kisses along my back and hands making their way over my torso.
"Jess, you need to go," I try shrugging Jess' hands off me, but she ignores what I said and keeps kissing along the back of my neck.
"Jessica, I said go!" I get off the bed and start pacing the floor.
"I just broke the love of my life's heart and I regret it! I love her and now I've fucked it up," I add and pause to look at the person who I shouldn't be upset with. Jessica only came here cause I asked her to, but I shouldn't have messed with her feelings either.
"So, please," I run my hands over my face, "Jess leave."
Jessica gets up and quickly puts her clothes back on.
"You're a dick," She pushes past me and slams my bedroom door.
"Fuck!" I punch the wall, wincing as I realize my hand went straight through the drywall. My knuckles speckled with red. I flop onto my bed and cover my face with a pillow, releasing a muffled scream.I hear my door open again and see Kim hesitating to walk in. She takes a chance and sits on the edge of my bed.I throw my pillow off my face and cover my eyes hoping that this is all a dream.
"I fucked up Kim," I say quietly, staring at my ceiling.I hear her shift a bit on the bed and know she isn't going to try to sway me differently.
I sit up and look at her, "I love her." She watches me and waits for me to continue.
"Now she's never going to forgive me for what I've done. God, I should've believed her. I know her better than to sleep around with someone else when even considering to be with someone, but that English prick made it sound so convincing. I mean I haven't talked to Sofia in years and she could've changed," I lay back on my pillow and cover my eyes again. I hear Kim sigh and the weight on my bed leaves.
"When you're ready to fix things, I'll be waiting," Kim pays my knee and heads towards the door.
"Thanks, I think I just want to be alone for now," I peek at the door and watch my little sister close it.
It's been a few hours since Sofia caught me and Jess in bed together. I needed to get out of the house and clear my head. I stand up and grab a hoodie on the back of my desk chair and put it on. I grab my car keys, phone and wallet. I keep my eyes focused forward and head straight to my car. I open the door and I put the key into the ignition. I have one destination in mind...the beach. It's the one place I can go to and clear my head instantly.I stop at a red light and groan when I notice that my phone fell down onto the car floor. I reach over to grab my phone and don't notice the red light has now turned green. I get my phone and put it in my cup holder. I start to roll forward but hit my brake noticing that the car in front of me is waiting to turn left. I nearly hit the back end of the other car, but stopped fast enough to leave mere inches between us. I patiently wait for them to clear my path to continue towards the beach. Before I can leave the intersection, I hear a loud horn headed towards me. The blinding lights captivate my sight and before I can move, everything around me turns black.
Third Person POV
Jamie's car is hit with so much force, it's sent towards the concrete pillars of the overpass. Swarms of people gather to check on both drivers. It doesn't take long for the paramedics and police to arrive either.
