FORTY-TWO | year 6
A STRESSFUL FIRST WEEK
Quickly grabbing the letter that the school owl dropped in front of her, she shoved a spoonful of cereal before she and Draco made eye contact. He, too, had a letter in his hands, he nodded, and he stood up. Cassiopeia followed.
She was going to have Defence Against The Dark Arts with Snape today, and she knew he would allow them to skip, well, not really allow, but he wouldn't get furious about it.
They both walked until they reached the seventh floor. Cassiopeia looked behind her shoulder to check if anyone was following her, but no one was in the seventh floor. Most of the students were currently eating breakfast in the great hall.
They both slid into the room of requirements, shutting the large doors behind with a thud.
"Is it from him?" asked Cassiopeia, as the two siblings walked further into the room.
"Yes, yours too I suppose?" He lifted a brow.
"Obviously," she muttered.
It didn't take them long to have their black robes on the small chair, and reading the letter over and over again. It was confusing.
The whole day they gathered many things from the library. Books that might help them, and some spells that they've tried.
Cassiopeia didn't think that they could fix the cabinet in only a few weeks. This will take some time, especially what the instructions say in the book and the letter Mr Borgin sent.
Cassiopeia walked out of the Library, her mind trailing off into whatever things she can think of to kill off Dumbledore without using the killing curse.
Although, it might be easier to use the killing curse. Dumbledore trusted her. She could just march up into his office and point her wand at him and kill him right now. But that's the thing, she doesn't want to kill him. She didn't want to be a murderer, but the work with the cabinet is a huge pain in her head, it was too much thinking. Thinking things out is not what she does.
She was turning to the defence against the dark arts office, taking out the piece of paper that she needed Snape to sign. It was for the restricted section of the library, and the only way to get there is to ask a teacher to sign a paper.
Not bothering to knock, she burst inside Snape's room as if it were her own. She slammed the piece of parchment on his desk, and looked up at him with a bored look.
"Sign this, I need to go to the restricted section," she said, taking out her quill and dipping it inside Snape's ink bottle.
He did not answer, he slowly lifted his head to meet her eyes.
"Is that the proper way to ask something from a teacher?" He questioned, in his monotone voice.
Cassiopeia lets out groan, before turning towards the door, closing it and opening it again. She feigns a very cheery expression.
"Why, hello, Professor Snape! You look absolutely wonderful today!" She said, in a high-pitched voice as she blinked her eyelids rapidly, "may you please sign this paper, so I could search up ways to let people into Hogwarts?"
Cassiopeia said the last line in a low hiss. She knew no one would be listening because no one is outside his office.
"Miss Malfoy, talk to me properly or you will get detention!" He sneered.
"Fine! Please sign this paper, Professor, I need it for something important!" She huffed, sitting down in front of him.
He did not answer, he just grabbed the paper in front of him and scribbled his signature. She expected a huge retort, but instead she got silence. It was unexpected from him, he never lets her off talking to him like that.
She wanted to set him off. She didn't want to walk out saying thank you to Snape without at least getting in his nerves.
"I see finally getting the job in defence against the dark arts made you, what? Softer?" She snorted, grabbing the paper that Snape handed to her.
"Get out. I do not have time for your ramblings, if you want to get into someone's nerves I suggest you go find a first year to taunt to," he scowled.
"No, thank you," she smirked, turning around. "I'll taunt you tomorrow instead. Thanks!"
Before Snape could say another word, she closed his office door and walked out of the classroom.
Cassiopeia gripped her heavy bag on his shoulder as she walked. As she looked at her paper, she passed by some Gryffindors holding brooms.
One of them being Harry, who walked behind the rest of the group.
"Oh, Harry!" She said, smiling. But Harry had a frown.
"Where were you?" He asked.
"What?" Cassiopeia frowned as well.
"My Quidditch match," Harry said, "you said you'd come,"
Cassiopeia paused, her eyes widened. "It was today?!"
"Yes, Cass, It's Friday!" He said.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry!" She winced. "I really am, Harry. I...umm... I had detention with Snape."
"It's all right," he pursed his lips. He tried to sound polite, but she promised him, and she didn't come. He expected her to. It was a tiring day, he didn't want to talk to anyone right now. "Well, see you."
And with that, he brushed pass her and walked towards the other groups of Gryffindors. Cassiopeia winced, but she didn't have time for that right now.
She turned around the opposite direction, to the library where she will be researching more about the cabinet, and ways that might help her.
And as she was skimming through a book of the most poisonous objects, hoping to find something, she saw the exact replica of the opal necklace that she had seen at Borgin and Burkes's shop. She shut her book tightly, taking a piece of parchment and a quill, she dipped her quill inside an ink bottle and started to write.
Hermione Granger eyed Cassiopeia from the far corner of the library. She noticed that Cassiopeia had been busy in the library all day. It is normal for Cassiopeia to be in the library, but not in the restricted area.
The bushy haired girl stood up and walked towards her just as she closed her letter. Cassiopeia looked up, noticed Hermione who had a small smile, but it did not reach her eyes.
"Hello, Hermione," said Cassiopeia.
"Hi," said the girl, "what are you doing in here all day?"
"Studying," replied Cassiopeia.
"In the restricted section?" Hermione lifted a brow. "Is everything all right?"
"Well, I was in detention with Snape earlier," said Cassiopeia, placing her letter inside her bag and shutting it quickly before standing up. "And he kept quizzing me on things that I do not know. I don't want to make fool out of myself for our next detention, do I?"
"Oh," said Hermione. "All right."
Just as Cassiopeia was about to walk away, Hermione called: "why weren't you at the Gryffindor Quidditch tryouts? Harry was waiting for you all day,"
"I was at Detention," she pursed her lips, turning to face Hermione. "I may or may not have said something to Snape that made him give me a week-long detention,"
Hermione nodded, "that's awful then,"
"It is," she rolled her eyes, letting out a fake groan. "You have no idea how annoying that git is."
"Tell me about it," Hermione agreed. Cassiopeia couldn't quickly leave the library, it took her almost an hour trying to leave Hermione. She couldn't just say goodbye and leave, Hermione is a smart witch, she would know something is up.
When Cassiopeia did manage to leave Hermione, she walked back to the common room where she noticed that Draco sat at the very far corner of the common room, in the dark, going through a book.
The girl approached him, making him glower at her. "What took you so long?!"
"I got stuck in a boring conversation with Granger who kept asking me questions!" She growled. "And I found something in the library, read this and tell me if it's a good idea."
She handed Draco the letter she will send to Mr Borgin. He snatched the letter from her hand and opened it, his eyebrows getting closer and closer.
"That's a rubbish idea," he said. "How do you think that would go through Flitwick's supervision? Its bloody ridiculous, that is."
"Have you got any other ideas, genius?" asked Cassiopeia, grabbing the parchment and folding it.
Draco stayed quiet, and the girl nodded.
"That's what I thought," she huffed. "And besides, it'll be dropped off into the Hogsmeade office, not here."
Cassiopeia walked up to her dorm room, and quickly sealed the letter before going out to the owlery.
She will be going to Hogsmeade on Sunday, and she knew she needed to get this letter to Mr Borgin as soon as possible, so she could get his reply fast.
Cassiopeia not only had to worry about that, she worries on how she could also say sorry to Harry.
It was already a stressful first week of school.
