EIGHTEEN | year 4
THE FIRST TASK & A BALL?
Cassiopeia stands anxiously, watching as other players get their dragon egg, easily.
She scoffed to Draco, "I bet Potter got the most dangerous dragon,"
"Oh yeah? Then that's great, less chance of him winning." Draco smirked.
"Three of our champions have now faced their dragon sand so each one of them will proceed to the next task," announced.Dumbledore, "through the Anand now our fourth and final contestant."
Harry enters the rocky arena, he searches in the crowd his eyes landed at Cassiopeia who sent him a thumbs up and a soft smile. He nods at her giving her an anxious smile in return.
The crowd cheers his name as he spots the golden egg sitting alone, he tries to make the run for it but the dragon appears. Harry's forced to retreat behind a rock as the dragon flames him. Cassiopeia grimaced as she watches Harry stumble and fall around the arena.
Cassiopeia excused herself from her brother, and pushed further from crowed where she knew Harry could see her. "Your wand you idiot!" She yelled.
Harry summons a broom, He jumps on and flies off, he tried to snatch the egg, but the Dragon lets out fire. Harry flies up, and the dragon was too strong for the small chains, and it broke free. The crowd gasps, stunned. It follows Harry, who flew pass the teachers, breaking the shade above the teachers.
Everyone waited anxiously for Harry to come back, Cassiopeia biting the insides of her lips as she taps her foot.
Finally, after what seemed like ages, Harry came back, his broom looking like it was thrown in a fireplace. The crowed roared as He cheers as he went straight for the golden egg.
Cassiopeia and Harry locked eyes, and she gave him a proud smile before chuckling and cheering along with the others.
°°°
"Hey! Congratulations, Potter!" She nudged him, "The Accio spell I taught you is the reason why you won."
"Not really," he chuckled. "But I guess?"
"Well, I'm glad you're still here, and didn't get turned into steak for the dragon," she chuckled.
He chuckled, looking at the Dragon Egg. "What do you reckon this'll be?"
"Dunno, let me know if you find out, I need to go, my brother could be worried sick about me," she sarcastically said, rolling her eyes. "Get your arms checked too, looks like it hurts."
"Thanks, I will." He smiled at Cassiopeia, who walked away shaking her head at the boy.
The next day was nothing, she did just send a letter to her father about the first task, and that Harry passed. She reckoned that Draco did the same, since her brother is like a spy as well. A very bad one though.
As Cassiopeia munches on her cereal, chuckling at the headline about Hermione when Draco threw a rather large package on Cassiopeia's head. Which hurt really badly, and it also made her cereal spill. "Hey! What the hell?!"
"Mother sent that for you," he said as he sat down next to her. "She sent me a package too, it was weird since I don't really know what it was for."
Cassiopeia puts a spoonful of cereal that was left in her bowl in her mouth before opening the ribbon on the package. The box was green, and quite heavy too. She took a peak and saw some white-ish frabic.
There was a note attached to it.
"Here's a new dress for you to use at the Ball"
"
A ball? What ball?" asked Draco, who was as just as confused as her.
°°°
"The yule ball has been a tradition of the tri-wizard tournament since its inception," said Snape glaring at everybody in the room. "On Christmas Eve night we and our guests gather in the great hall for well-mannered frivolity. The Yule Ball...is a dance,"
The boys groan in annoyance and some girls glance at each other excitingly.
"Silence!" scowled Snape. "And I expect the House of Salazar Slytherin to be well-mannered and not to dance around like a floating pig in the middle of the ballroom."
Cassiopeia stifled a laugh at the boys who looked like they didn't want to be there. Snape walked next to the large music box before looking back at the class. "Miss Malfoy and Mr Zabini, up. I know the both of you have quite a lot of experience. Show your classmates how it should be done."
Cassiopeia inwardly groaned before standing up and walking to the middle room, smiling awkwardly at Blaise who chuckled at her. He placed his hand on her waist just as Snape turned on the music.
They both danced to the music, other students watching in awe and some looking annoyed. Snape clapped his hands, indicating for other students to follow.
"Grab a partner and practice!" He shouted to the students who looked like they dozed off. Blaise and Cassiopeia chuckled, continuing to dance as other students bump into their shoulders.
Snape lets out an exasperated sigh, "This will take a long time..."
°°°
Cassiopeia glared at the boys who approached her, not wanting to go to the ball with random people she does not even know. She sat a bench, watching as girls giggle and some boys itching to get a date.
"Hello, Miss Cassio--"
She puts her hand up in front of a first year Slytherin who had a small flower on his hand. "No, now scram." She took the flower from his hand and shoved him away.
She looked up from her book when she heard a familiar voice. "Why do they always have to travel in packs? How are you supposed to get one alone to ask them..."
Cassiopeia shook her head, overhearing what Harry just said. She stood up, gathered all her things and changing her bench when she saw some boy sit down next to her.
"Blimey Harry, you slayed dragons," said Ron. "If you can't get a date who can?"
"I think I'd take the Dragon right now," muttered Harry while a group of girls stared at him with utter disgust.
Ron's eyes landed on Cassiopeia who is reading a book, trying her best to look busy so that no one could approach her. "How about you ask Malfoy? You've been looking at her with heart eyes for a few days now..."
Harry stared at Ron with shock, "Like hell I would, she probably has a date already." Ignoring the fact that Ron pointed out.
"Probably not, you know. Girls like her would probably take ages to get a date for how stubborn they are." Ron scoffed.
Harry hesitated, shaking his head as they walked pass Cassiopeia who shook her head at a boy who came up to ask her.
She continued to walk with her nose stuck in a book, since it's the only method working for her to get guys to leave her alone.
And it also results in bumping into people occasionally. As she was about to turn a corner, she bumped into someone she did not want to speak to.
"Oh! My apologies--" Cassiopeia said, before looking up and noticing the familiar face in front of her, she inwardly groaned. "Fleur."
Fleur gave her a soft smile, "It's okay, Cassiopeia. How have you been?"
"Great, thanks," she spoke, brushing pass her, not wanting to engage in the conversation.
Fleur grabbed her book, calling after her. "Cassiopeia! Your book---"
She winced, turning back and grabbing it. "Thanks, sorry."
"Wait!" Fleur stopped her from walking away. "You seem so guilty about what had happened in the Great Hall in Beauxbatons..."
"Yeah...not really," she pursed her lips. "She did quite deserve it but sure."
Fleur shook her head a small smile on her face. "I understand. You seem less...rude here at Hogwarts."
"I was 12, so times change?" She smiled said. "Look, I'm running late for class and I would love to continue our conversation, but it's also quite a bit awkward."
"No, it's okay. And I just wanted to tell you I forgive you for what you did to my hair back when you were in First Year,"
"But I thought you already forgave me---umm never mind. Thanks."
"And I know you were petty to not accept my friendship, I just hope you and I could be friends again?" She grinned.
Cassiopeia was shocked. "I...sure. I would love that, you've always been so nice to me before."
Fleur chuckled, giving her a one-sided hug. "That is great! If you need any help for your subjects you are always free to come to me for help!"
Cassiopeia nodded, waving a goodbye before running through the hallways to get to her class.
°°°
Cassiopeia was assigned to be seated in between of Harry and Ron, since the two boys won't stop blabbering.
"This is mad," said Ron, who leaned closer to the table to talk to Harry. "At this rate, we'll be the only ones in our year without dates."
Snape walked past and slaps Ron over the head to keep him quiet.
"Well, us and Neville!" Ron pursed his lips.
"But then again he can take himself," said Harry from Cassiopeia's left, she inhaled angrily, annoyed.
"It might interest you to know that Neville's already got someone." spoke Hermione.
Ron gasps. "Now I'm really depressed."
Cassiopeia snorts, "I too, don't have a date yet."
"What? No way," Ron scoffed, not believing her. "I'm pretty sure you're lying just so you can relate with us."
Cassiopeia sent Ron a death glare, "And why would I do that? I would never want to relate to your miserable life, Weasley."
Ron puts a hand on his heart, "Mine? Miserable?"
Snape whacks Ron's head making Cassiopeia quietly laugh, Ron nudged her painfully, making her mutter an 'ow'
Just then, Fred hands Ron a note, it reads "GET A MOVE ON OR ALL THE GOOD ONES WILL HAVE GONE!".
"Well Hermione, you're a girl," said Ron. Cassiopeia rolled her eyes and turned to Harry who was shaking his head at Ron.
"Oh well spotted," Hermione rolled her eyes.
"Come on. It's one thing for a bloke
to show up alone," Ron spoke, looking at Hermione with fake sadness. "For a girl it's just sad."
"Excuse me?" said Cassiopeia, "It's not sad, it's because boys like you, Ron, are disgusting. Girls would rather be alone then to be seen with you."
Ron narrowed his eyes at Cassiopeia who was scowling at him.
"It's better for you to shut up, Ron," said Harry.
Hermione shook her head, "I won't be going alone because believe it or not someone's asked me. And I said yes."
Hermione stood up, grabbing her book and hands it to Snape.
"Bloody hell," muttered Ron.
Hermione storms off.
"Look. We've just got to grit our teeth
and do it. Tonight when we get back
to the common room, we'll both have
partners." planned Harry, Cassiopeia snorted at him. "Agreed?"
"Agreed." said Ron before being smacked on the head one more time by Snape, also including Harry.
°°°
Cassiopeia plopped herself on the sofa next to her brother who was grinning ear to ear.
"What's got you all smiley?" She asked, as she took a candy from her pocket.
"Well, my dear sister, I got myself a date to the Ball." He said, "I had to reject loads of girls, but I finally settled on Pansy."
"Ah, of course, Pansy out of all others?" She laughed, "Dear Merlin, brother, you have horrible, horrible taste."
"You're the one to talk, who are you going with? Harry Potter I presume?" He snorted, "Wait till father hears about that."
"Jokes on you, I haven't got a date yet," she sweetly smiled at him.
"That's sad,"
"I'll go alone, it's not a big deal."
Bliase, who was sitting next to Draco, chirped: "I can be your date if you want."
"There, Draco, I got a date." She smiled, before nodding at Blaise and standing up from the couch.
"Ugh, you think Blaise is any better than Pansy?" Draco fakes a gag, "Disgusting."
"Oh yeah, way better." Cassiopeia nods as she messed up Draco's hair.
°°°
Cassiopeia walked through the hallway, humming a tune as she pass through the library. She spotted Harry from afar, who looked like he was in a deep thought.
She thought that she should not talk to him, since he looks like he's focusing on something. Not only that, but she also knew it wasn't anything important. It's Harry Potter after all.
As the two were about to pass each other, Harry stopped. "Cassiopeia! Hey, umm can we talk?"
"Yeah?" She lifted a brow.
"Umm...would-you-like-to-come-to-the- Ball-with-me?" He said fast. Cassiopeia took a few seconds to take in what he just said.
"You---what?" She furrowed her brows.
Harry inhaled a breath, "would you like to go to the ball with me?"
She grimaced, "Sorry, I've got date already."
"Already?" He asked, "You just said this morning that you didn't have a date."
"And...someone I know asked me, Sorry." She gave him an apologetic smile, "I mean we could still hang out at the Ball, if you want."
"Y-Yeah, sure."
She patted his back before walking away.
