~~•~~

How dare he?

How dare that insolent bastard order me around like his fucking maid? And he seriously thinks I'll listen to him?

Well, fuck him.

Fuck you Jidenna.

"Umar!" I tore my gaze from the now-empty field to Hugo who tilted his head as a sign for me to come with him.

I picked up my football boots which were joined together by the tied shoelaces, which made it easier for them to be hung on my neck, and made my way toward him.

Students littered the senior block hallway. Sweaty students who hadn't gone into the shower room to wash. The boys to be precise.

Not until we stepped foot into the hallway did they remember they had to wash off. Some hurriedly made their way into the shower room, while some didn't care and walked right into their classes.

Either works for me cause I didn't want to see a single sweaty soul in the hallway.

"Umar." Hugo turned back to me.

"You go in. I want to get something from the class real quick. I'll join you."

"Sure." He hurried off to class while I went straight into the male shower room. A few senior boys were already getting clean and boasting about their various exploits with girls.

A lot of things were planned and discussed in this shower room. A lot of sick, twisted, and devious plots are planned by boys of that kind against other students. Not that it didn't bother me. It did, just a little bit. But as far as no one close to me was involved or got hurt, I didn't get involved.

If there's one thing that has gotten me this far without any problem, it's minding my own business. The only thing that can keep you out of unwarranted trouble and drama. Especially in this jungle of a school.

"How far that Friday night bet?" Came the disembodied voice of a boy in the cubicle next to mine.

"You haven't done it, right?" Another one queried.

"I said he couldn't do it." The third boy said. "He doesn't have the balls." He jeered.

"I haven't done it doesn't mean I won't. I already talked to her today." The boy in question finally answered.

"And?"

"And I told her to meet me after school."

"Telling her to meet you still doesn't make you less of a pussy," The boys laughed. "You're still one until you do it."

"But Timi, your mouth just dey rush like tap. You've forgotten the time when you couldn't get just a simple kiss from-"

"Shut up!" That earned a fit of laughter from his friends.

Timilehin Fakoya is the only senior boy, not in our class that Jidenna favored in the entire school. He took a liking to the boy when he witnessed him trash-talk a classmate during an argument. So Jidenna made him his school son.

And since a majority of our classmates and the SS 2 population didn't want to be Jidenna's target in any way, it made Timi mostly untouchable. No senior could punish him, so he could do whatever nonsense and get away with it. Just like his school father.

Shutting them out, I washed off, dried myself, and stepped out of the cubicle, then got dressed in my tracksuit which was personally customized by the school to my taste, as well as every Laureate.

Every student was given two tracksuits. One according to the color of our various sports houses, and the other is the general school color. We were all given the privilege of customization and our names were displayed on the tracksuit in any font style of our choice.

No one expects the tracksuit given to a Jss1 student to still fit two or three years later, but not in all cases. Some still made use of the ones given to them in junior class. But because of those who had outgrown theirs, the school management decided to give new ones to all of us every two years and also customized to our taste.

I packed my things into my sports bag provided by the school too. This wasn't customized at first, but the lost and found room was getting quite a lot of sports bags, coupled with cases of stolen bags. So names were engraved on every bag for easy identification.

I slung mine over my shoulder and headed out. I had barely taken 4 steps away from the shower room and got no warning whatsoever as someone bumped into me.

From the softness of the body and the very familiar flowery scent, I knew It was her, and I quickly held on to her before she could land on the floor.

"Fucking hell." She said, hurriedly pulling away from me, and confirming my thoughts.

"Oma, are you okay?" I asked as I quickly gathered myself. I could make out her hands trembling a bit. Probably from shock, but she gave an affirmative nod.

I squinted my eyes to see her face properly. Yes, I couldn't see well

I was diagnosed with astigmatism at age 9. I couldn't see a thing even if it was so close to me, and it was sometimes a big problem for me.

"Umar, go and get glasses before you go blind. Because you're already halfway on the journey of blindness as it is."

"I hate glasses."

"Then get contacts."

"I hate those too. I only wear them to play, and I take the damn things off immediately after."

"Well then, you better save up money to buy yourself a walking stick or a cane and a helper dog, 'cause you are going to need those soon."

A chuckle left my lips at her words. I certainly didn't like the idea of walking with a cane and a helper dog, but I hated wearing glasses. I only wore them in the privacy of my house. And contacts are stressful to have and use and maintain.

I was at risk of developing a lazy eye, which is more serious than it sounds if I didn't take measures to help my eyesight. And Oma hasn't been the only one doing the warning. My mum is the number one on the list when it comes to warning and scolding me about my eyesight. She could do that all day and not get tired.

"So where are you hurrying to?"

"Oh, um, my brother is in the sick bay."

My brows furrowed and I felt uneasy immediately.

"Is he okay??"

"Yes. It's not that serious."

"Are you sure? Should I come with you?"

"Don't bother, Umar. It's okay."

Those supposed words of assurance still didn't make me less worried that Kanye was not okay. And I don't know how Oma was this calm, exhibiting no sign of worry.

Or maybe she had gotten that good at hiding it. Or it's not that serious.

I let out a sigh and gave a nod at her reply even though I was still worried.

"See you in class then."

And we parted ways to our various destinations. Just as I approached the class entrance, I heard that one voice calling my name. An irritating voice I fully recognized.

"Umar!"

I cursed under my breath, stopped, and turned back. I didn't even bother stressing my vision to see her properly. But from what I could make out once she got to me, she was grinning from ear to ear.

What have you gotten yourself into Umar?

"Can I help you?" I asked in the most irritated tone possible which instantly destabilized her and wiped off that ecstatic look to be replaced with a shocked and confused one.

I didn't mind it getting to this. Being blatantly rude to them. Heck, I was always glad to put them in their places whenever they didn't seem to get the memo and became too pushy

"Why this? Am I a stranger to you?"

So here's the thing. During one of Ik's parties, I got extremely wasted and hooked up with her. Not something I'm proud of by the way.

Chantelle glued herself to me like a leech since then and wouldn't let me be.

"Look, Chantelle, it looks like you don't get it. It was only a one-time thing okay? I don't know what ideas I unintentionally put in your head, but I advise you to get rid of them and stop being delusional."

She frowned.

"Umar-"

"Chantelle." I took a step closer to her so I could at least see her face properly. "This will be the last time you do this again. Don't be stupid."

She stood there, staring at me dumbfounded, and most definitely embarrassed out of her mind. At least I told her off privately and not in the middle of the hallway or the presence of our classmates.

I turned my back on her and walked into my class.

Lesson number one: Never hook up with a classmate again. Never make that mistake.

The class wasn't as noisy as usual. The only voices which could be heard were those of a few guys gathered around a table. Besides me and them, no one else was in the class.

I got to my seat, placed my sports bag on my desk, and brought out my contacts to put them on. Now seeing better, I turned to the back of the class to see the guys gathered there. Just 3 boys from my class and the remaining two from sciences and only God knows what they were so seriously discussing.

My phone chimed, pulling my attention away from the boys and to my phone. It was another text from my network service provider and it reminded me of an unread message I got earlier today on the field during sports practice.

"Hey, Umar!" Came Kanye's voice just as I was about to tap on the message. I dropped the phone in my hand and turned back to see him looking very okay.

"Hey, are you good now?" I asked and the look on his face morphed into a slightly confused one.

"I'm fine?" He replied like he was unsure of his own state of health which made me a bit confused too.

"Oma said she was going to see you in the sickbay."

"The sickbay?" Then his confusion cleared up and his usual bright smile was back. "I'm totally fine and I wasn't in the sickbay. Only God knows what my sister is up to this time." He chuckled and sat on my desk.

Well, I wasn't supposed to be surprised. I should have known this by now. These twins always had something up their sleeves.

Kanye signaled those behind to come forward and I wondered if it has anything to do with whatever they were discussing before.

"What's going on?"

"You'll know in a bit. We're waiting for Hugo and Jidenna."

Great. The asshole is going to be part of whatever this is.

"And I hope I'm not involved in this?"

"You are and you better chill out. Don't start whining like a child because of him."

I rolled my eyes and hoped whatever Kanye was planning was good enough to make Jidenna not cross my path. And speaking of the devil, he walked right in behind Hugo who apologized for not returning to the shower room.

If I said seeing him right now didn't irk me, that would be a lie. It did a whole lot. I already tolerated enough of him during training, and I wasn't so sure I could spend another second around him. Not when I was sure he was going to display another round of his useless ego. So I had to keep it together till this free period was over so I could get the fuck out of here.

"So what's up?" I asked.

"We're going bowling tomorrow night."

I arched my brow. Bowling?

"Tomorrow night?"

"Mhmm." Kanye nodded.

"We only?" I questioned again.

"The entire set."

The what??

I knew where this was going. Or at least I thought I did.

"Is this like a party or something?"

I didn't want to be a killjoy, but I wasn't really in the mood for whatever Kanye had planned. I just wanted to go home for the weekend and regain the sanity that a week at school had taken away from me.

"Umar. Stop being so uptight."

"I'm not." I leaned back into the chair and crossed my arms over my chest.

"You are. I can feel it. External exams are around the corner."

I rolled my eyes at him. "It's just in a year, Kanye."

"External exams," He began, completely ignoring me. "are around the corner. And soon these blood-sucking teachers will unleash hell on us. It can be any day, even today. A teacher might just walk in and decide to send us on an educational suicide mission. So while we're still alive and breathing, let's have fun while we can. Tomorrow may be too late."

Well, when he puts it like that...

I let out a sigh. "Fine."

"Excellent!" He exclaimed with excitement evident in his tone, and I smiled shaking my head.

Hugo got up. "So we just have to tell the girls-"

"-We already heard." All heads turned to the entrance of the class to see Dami, Oma, and Idera walk in. "Just we sha, not all the girls."

"And we're in," Oma added as my eyes met hers, and I cocked a brow at her concerning what happened earlier. She just shrugged and looked away.

Lora and Zina weren't with them. The five of them didn't always walk around together. It was mostly these three present that were always together, and If anyone was to be missing out of the three, it would be Dami. Idera and Oma were always everywhere with each other. Not exactly always, but you get the drill.

Zina would either be with Hugo or Lora or alone in a quiet place reading, and Lora was seventy percent with Leo in the natatorium. The remaining twenty were shared between Zina and all five of them. But they all stayed together during lunch most of the time.

The girls proceeded to pull out chairs to sit as Kanye started talking and I focused my attention on him.

"So this is like a general outing thing? Just to be very clear oh." Dami asked.

"Exactly!"

Jidenna suddenly raised his hand, gaining the attention of almost everyone. And I rolled my eyes so hard that they would have rolled out of their sockets.

He always had to make his presence known wherever he was, even when it wasn't needed. Making everyone kiss his ass as if he was some sort of a fucking god.

The post which was meant to be mine was taken away from me, because of him. I was to be given the appointment of the sports prefect, and of course, everyone in the entire school knew I was perfect for that post. Heck, every single student rooted for me.

All was going well, only to find out on the day before the badging ceremony that Jidenna was running for that same post too. It didn't bother me, cause I knew he didn't stand a chance against me.

I stood proud on the assembly podium, in front of the one hundred and fifty thousand plus laureates, as I eagerly waited for my name to be called out as the newly appointed sports prefect of Laurel International College. The assistants were the ones who get called out first, before the main position. So you could imagine my confusion when my name got called first, and that confusion morphed into shock when Jidenna got called after.

I was beyond devastated.

It was then I sighted his father from where I stood, being ushered to his car by hefty men in black suits, and that was when it hit me. It hit me harder than anything had in my entire existence on Earth.

As I watched him drive out of the school compound, all I prayed for was for that car to lose its brakes and drive off the bridge. Ending that man.

I suddenly felt a hand on mine, pulling me out of that memory.

"Easy…" I heard Oma say beside me and I let out a breath, slowly opening up my hands which were balled into a tight fist. I didn't even know I had done that.

"Are you good?" She asked.

"Yeah.."

She nodded and took her hand off mine.

Fucking bastard.

"Does she have to be there?" I looked back at him just in time to hear him ask, as he pointed at Idera who was so engrossed in whatever she was doing on her phone.

Hugo let out a sigh. "Jide, not now please."

"Well if she's going, then I'm not."

I scoffed.

What kind of a fucking child is this??

Does he even know how stupid he sounds?

"And that works just fine for me," Idera gave her reply, without sparing him a glance.

"Can you two not start this again please?" Hugo pleaded.

This Idera and Jidenna feud could get quite annoying. As much as I always love to see Idera put him in his place, there were days when the bickering and confrontations were uncalled for.

They even had to be shut down those days. Ethan and Hugo handled Jidenna, while Oma and Dami did the same with Idera. And when it got heated, almost to the point of getting physical, the rest of us had to intervene.

I got an injury, which had turned into a scar, from the day I had to carry Idera out of the class before she could plunge the tip of her pen into Jidenna's face.

We all expected him to stay in his lane from then on. Because only a foolish person will narrowly escape being facially disfigured and still go back to ask for trouble.

You narrowly escaped being devoured by a lion, but then you still go back to the lion's den to provoke it even more.

Idera on the other hand? I really don't know what that girl is.

"Don't be stupid, Jide," Evan, the main Jidenna ass-kisser spoke up. "So because she's coming you won't come? Has it gotten to that? Denying yourself fun just because of her?"

"Don't point that wretched finger at me, Evan," Idera warned, shooting him a glare.

"You're right." Jidenna sat up in his chair.

"I'm going to have one hell of a fun night, and not even she is going to stop me."

The girl in question seemed so unfazed by his words. Making him seem like a stubborn fly buzzing around the place.

"Good for you." I heard her mutter before she got up and put the chair she was seated on, back in place.

"Let's go," She said to the two girls with her. "I can't stay around this idiot anymore."

The irritation in her voice was so evident that I'm sure none of us missed it. And Jidenna was going to react for sure, it was only a matter of-

"What did you just call me?"

And there it is.

He just couldn't resist.

She turned back to him, the corners of her lips slightly turned up in an amused smirk. "Oh, so you even know what you are?"

He jolted up and charged towards her like he was going to either hit her or push her, and that set off an alarm in my head. I got up and slammed my hands hard on the table, startling everyone, including Jidenna who paused.

"Jidenna get a fucking grip!" I faced him head-on.

His eyes narrowed at me, and his angry gaze matched mine.

"Don't yell at me, Umar."

"Don't ever fucking try it."

I balled my fists.

One of us was this close to throwing a punch, and heaven knows it was me. I was going to go fuck it and hit this guy in the face.

"Then stop being such an idiot, and act mature for once." That I said, right to his face. Something flashed in his eyes, and for a second, I thought he was the one going to throw the first punch.

"You-"

"Cut the bullshit for God's sake!"

Immediately the entire class fell into a pin-drop silence. I tore my eyes from Jidenna to Hugo who looked frustrated. I would be too if I had to deal with a fucking child like him.

Infact, fuck everybody abeg.

Unable to stay anymore, I went to my seat to take my bag.

"See you guys tomorrow night."
