Β Β Β USUALLY, WHEN SHE HEARD THUNDER OR WAVES, IT WAS DURING THE DAY, WHEN SHE WAS AWAKE. This time, it had happened through her dreams. Her body was thrown violently, and it was sore once she woke up. The only the she really remembered was the sky and sea battling for dominance, along with a dark voice that rumbled the earth.
Ariadne had become closer with Percy, moving with him through his lessons to help him. She taught greek with Annabeth, but majority of the time she was helping Percy. Which she didn't mind all that much, Chiron gave her the okay to excuse herself from the lessons, her knowledge on all the lessons were good enough to skip a few days.
Currently, the fourth day after the boy had shown up, she was standing near Luke as he taught the Hermes campers. The girl would step in and help, but this lesson was near and dear to the blond's heart, seeing as he was the second best swordsman in the last three hundred years.
"All right." Luke spoke up, "If Percy doesn't mind, I want to give you a little demo."
Ariadne paled slightly, Percy was no where near Luke's level, he was about to be spending a week in the infirmary. Her hand met Luke's shoulder, a worried look on her face. But the boy reassured her, "It'll be fine. I won't hurt him..." she nodded, but he smirked, "...too much."
She slapped his shoulder, he let out a laugh before her eyes met Percy's. A confident look on her face, which somewhat eased his worries, somewhat.
The move was one Luke had been learning with Ariadne, who had already perfected it. The blond had been making amazing progress in her mind, but he would always practice it when he could.
It was a disarming technique, a useful one at that. You twist the enemy's blade using the flat of your own, so your opponent would have to drop their weapon.
"This is difficult," Luke told the boy, which did not help his nerves. "I've had it used against me." Cue the dirty glance at Ariadne, she just shrugged, Percy seeing the grin on her face. She was proud. "No laughing at Percy, now. Most swordsmen--" a clearing fo throat signaled him to correct himself, "-- or swords-woman have had to work years to master this technique."
Luke gave the daughter of Dionysus a grin, "Besides Ariadne. But then again, she's the best swords-woman in the past three hundred years."
"It's a talent." She joked, a laugh escaping her as the Hermes campers watched.
The older teen gave Percy a demonstration of how the move was supposed to work, slightly wanting Ariadne's approval, as she was the one who had been teaching it to him. A grin twisted onto his face as he saw her nod of approval, Percy collecting his sword that was laying on the ground.
"Now," Percy looked towards Luke, sneaking glances at the brunette every so often. "In real time. We keep sparring until one of us pulls it off. Ready, Percy?"
The boy had no choice but nod, letting Luke advance forwards.
What happened next caught everyone by surprise, mostly Luke and Ariadne. Percy was able to parry Luke's blow easily, sending his own towards the teen. Deflecting and countering anything that Luke sent him, but Percy's sudden new abilities caused him to fight harder, not as hard as he would with Ariadne but close enough to widen her eyes.
And soon enough, Luke was on the ground with Percy's sword pointed at his chest. Luke's sword clattering onto the ground, the boy using the disarming technique.
Ariadne couldn't help but let out a cheer for the boy, who blushed as he let out a quiet, "Sorry."
Luke, who was stunned on the ground, rose up, "Sorry? By the gods, Percy, why are you sorry? Show me that again!" A huge grin on his face, making Percy blush even more.
His sea-green eyes tried concentrating, but Luke hit the hilt of his sword, sending it to the ground in seconds. Ariadne cringe slightly, seeing the faces of Luke and the rest of the cabin.
The blonde counselor shrugged his shoulders, "Beginners luck?"
Luke wiped sweat from his forehead, "Maybe. But I wonder what Percy could do with a balanced sword..." Ariadne was then pushed forwards, Hermes kids yelling out.
A boy shouted for the blond teen, "Ariadne should try the move!" A chorus of agreement flew through the air, Luke sending the girl an asking look, seeing if she was up to the challenge.
"Could be a challenge." Luke spoke up, Ariadne rolled her eyes.
"For you. Remember, I trained you, young pupil." The teen sent her a smirk, holding his sword tightly.
Percy watched as Ariadne stood where he used to be, sending him a wink as he smiled back. The girl made show of twirling her ring, letting it into the air as she caught her sword.
The gold glistening in the sunlight as Hermes campers cheered while she grinned, her thumb brushed against the vines on the blade, a dangerous look in her eyes.
Luke walked around, Ariadne following the motion. He made a move, swinging his sword her direction. She blocked it easily, quickly sending a blow to counter his. The two duel for a few minutes, Ariadne not even breaking a sweat.
He tries the one on her, only for the girl to do it to him, hers much more perfected. The sword falls from his hands, colliding with the ground, Ariadne keeping her sword at his neck as she steps on his.
Luke holds up his hands, "You win."
She smirks, kicking his sword towards him as she turns, sending a smile towards Percy. But the boy didn't return, rather, he opened his mouth while looking behind her.
A sharp pain hit her back, the girl crying out as her purple eyes flash with pain and anger. Luke was standing, sword at the read with a determined look.
Ariadne glares, nostrils flaring before she sends out multiple blows. He struggled to keep up, her moves becoming quicker before, with what limited control she had, she tripped him with vines thanks to her powers.
An angry look bored into Luke as he laid on the ground, in a very vulnerable position. The girl kicks his side, stepping back before walking away, sword transforming back into her ring which she slips on.
The girl waits in the shad of a tree, inspecting the leaving Hermes cabin for Percy. His sea-green eyes look around, missing the tree she stood by. Ariadne waited for Luke to leave, making her move once the teen was gone.
Her hand grasped onto the back of Percy's shirt, causing him to whip around with with wide eyes. He relaxed at the familiar purple, gulping slightly as her face didn't have the normal grin she usually held.
"Alright, Jackson, spill it."
Percy raised an eyebrow, "Spill what? A smoothie?"
Ariadne wasn't in the mood for his jokes, "No." She growled, the boy shrinking back a little at the tone. He had never heard her with that voice before, "Why were you so good, huh?"
The boy shrugged, "I don't know. I just did."
"That was weird... really weird."
He narrowed his eyes, "What's weird?"
"This!" She snapped, "That whole thing! You shouldn't have done anything good. You just... you just suck at like, everything."
"Oh, wow. Thank you. Thank you. I really loved hearing how I suck at 'like, everything.' " He mocks, her hands wraps around the front of his collar tightly.
"Jackson." She says with a warning tone, the boy sighs. He removes her hands from his shirt, stepping back.
"I don't know. Like Luke said, maybe it's just beginners luck."
Ariadne sighs, deep in thought. "Yeah. Yeah, maybe it is..."
Percy tries catching her attention, waving his hand in her face while she doesn't blink. "Yo. Ariadne." A thought pops into his head, "Curly Fry?" He teases, in a flash, a hand hits his abdomen, hard.
The boy groans, clutching his stomach while he doubled over. Reflux tears fill his vision, Ariadne walking away, but she stops suddenly.
Percy stands up straight, stomach still in pain. "What?"
"Did you see anything?"
"What? The vine thing?"
"Yeah." She was nervous, she had no clue why. "You weren't asking any questions, which is weird for you."
He rolls his eyes, "I just accepted it. Daughter of the god of wine, grape vines seemed plausible." Ariadne breaths a sigh of relief, "Hey," she places her hands on her hips. "Would you find it weird if you somehow got great at sword fighting after a water break?" She raises an eyebrow, "Just for, uh... research."
"Research?"
"Yeah."
The girl moves closer, leaning close to him. Percy leans back, blushing slightly at the closeness of the girl "Well, no. In this camp anything's possible." He breaths a sigh of relief, "But," his face drops. "I would find it weird if it was caused by water, that would mean they were a child of--"
She stopped, eyes wide as Percy looked at her questioningly. "They were a child of what?"
"Nothing." Ariadne shakes her head, "Nothing."
The girl turned quickly, sprinting off in the direction of the cabins. Percy sighed, running a hand through his hair as he placed them around his mouth. "Thanks!" He yelled, causing Ariadne to quickly turn while running backwards, sending him a grin before turning again.
The boy smiled at her, watching as the dark curls grew farther from him. Only to realize he had to start running as well, so he jogged to meet up with the cabin, a purple-eyed brunette on his mind.
***
ARIADNE BURST INTO HER CABIN, PANTING SLIGHTLY FROM SPRINTING ACROSS THE CAMP. Caster and Pollux happened to be there, talking about another Shakespeare book. This time, it was Hamlet. That was the one thing she did not share with her brothers and father, the love for putting on plays. That was filled in by the need to fight, so while her brothers discussed Shakespeare, she was busy sword fighting with other campers.
Caster, who grinned once she walked through the cabin, stood up and hugged her tightly. "Aw, sister, you missed us."
Pollux joined in, crushing the girl between them as she struggled in their hold. Punching their backs while she tried to breathe, "Sure. Now let me go!"
The twins let her go, standing besides each other while a mischievous grin rested on their face. She raised an eyebrow, "What happened? Did you help the Stolls prank someone again?"
Pollux rested his hand over his heart, "Sister, do you think--"
"--so low--" Castor cut in.
"--of us?"
Ariadne rolled her eyes,"One, yes. Two, that was weird and I hate when you guys do that."
They shared a glance, "How about this?" Both asked together, the girl's eyes going wide while she shook her head.
"No."
Caster strewn himself across his bed, legs dangling off the side as he rested against the soft purple pillow. Pollux ruffled her hair, crumpling to the floor while he stared up at her.
The girl eyed the two, knowing something was going on. Caster pointed towards her, "Don't be mad."
"You know it's our turn to choose."
Ariadne tilted her head, "For capture the flag? Yeah, I know. You chose Athena cabin, right? We always do that." The twins shared a look, eyes wide as they became terrified of their sister. "You did choose Athena, right?"
Pollux gave her a sheepish smile, "Well..."
"Boys." She growled, hands clenching. If she had to team up with Ares cabin there would be hell to pay, Caster and Pollux would be hanging by their toes from a tree.
"We agreed to team up with Ares cabin!" They blurted, smacking hands over their mouths as they shrunk back, scared of what their sister would do.
Caster sighed, "And before you freak out," he rushed out. "They've had the laurel for weeks now, it's the smartest thing to do."
Ariadne clenched her jaw, "But Annabeth told me she had this amazing plan, she was sure they would win this time."
"She says that every week." Pollux spoke up. The girl sent him an angry glare, the boy laid back down. "Right. I'll shut up."
Ariadne snapped, grabbing both of their ears as they moaned. She pulled them out the door of the cabin, campers watching as the Dionysus kids walked through camp.
She stomped past Annabeth, Grover and Percy, all of them doing their own things as they found interest in the brunette. Chiron sighed, another fight between them.
Dionysus only laughed at his children, drinking his Coke while watching his daughter destroy his sons. Ariadne pushed them onto the ground, kicking them as she yelled.
"You didn't even bother talking to me! I always talk to you."
Pollux and Caster flinched at her tone, relieved that she had stormed away. The brunette made her way towards Annabeth, who had a notebook in hand. "Those idiots paired us up with Ares."
The blonde narrowed her eyes, if they had Dionysus they were definitely going to win. Her plan would still work, but she knew how much Ariadne wanted her cabin to be apart of the winning team.
"I'm not mad." She spoke up, Ariadne sighed.
"I know," a hand ran through her hair, "I just wanted to help you win is all."
Annabeth hugged the girl, who tightly hugged back. Ariadne was called over by Clarisse, "Hey, Grape Girl, I want to talk to you." The blonde gave her a smile of sympathy, Ariadne walking over with heavy steps.
Clarisse folded her arms, giving her a smirk while she watched the young girl glare up at her. "Alright, we have to make sure you won't spill anything to Wise girl over there."
"I won't. I'm not a cheater like you." Ariadne replied, rolling her eyes at the offended look Clarisse have her.
"Listen up, Squirt." She stepped closer, Ariadne scrunching her nose at the foul smell of the Ares girl. "You get to know this: You come with us to grab the flag. Got it?" Ariadne nodded, thankfully, Clarisse leaving her alone.
Ariadne huffed, purple eyes meeting Percy's sea-green. The boy raised his eyebrows, the girl shaking her head, sending another glare in the direction of her brother.
This was about to be the worst capture the flag game she had ever taken part of, and not just because she wasn't on Annabeth's team.
***
THE ATHENA CABIN RAN THROUGH THE PAVILION WITH THEIR FLAG, ANNABETH LEADING THEM. Ariadne cheered them on, ignoring the looks from the Ares cabins and her brothers. Her eyes following the glistening grey silk that flowed smoothly in the wind, a painted owl resting in the middle, looking so realistic she was ready for it to take off.
But soon, Clarisse and her cabin ran through, banner significantly different compared to Athena's. Its blood red color streaking across the campers vision, leading the pack with a boar's head along with a spear. It hurt Ariadne's eyes, wanting to stare at the flag from Athena cabin for a little longer.
Her brothers cheered, but she rolled her eyes. Percy shrugged his shoulders, only for her to send him a funny face. The boy chuckled, sending one back as she just gave him a disgusted look.
Percy's face fell, only for a smile to reappear as she laughed. But her laughter subsided once the teams were called. Athena allying with Hermes and Apollo, Ares allied with the rest of them.
Ariadne groaned, smacking her head agains the table, hearing boisterous cheers from Ares. Chiron seemed to be in a good mood, the opposite of what she was feeling. "Heroes!" The girl lifted her head, eyes already exhausted. "You know the rules. The creek is the boundary line. The entire forest is fair game. All magic items and powers are allowed." The girl smiled slightly, she was so gonna trip Percy. "The banner must be prominently displayed, and have no more than two guars. Prisoners may be disarmed, but may not be bound or gagged. No killing or maiming is allowed."
"Aw," Ariadne complained, "I would've loved to do that to my brothers." The campers laughed, but her siblings were scared. Chiron sent her a warning look, though he knew she was teasing.
"I will see as referee and battlefield medic. Arm yourselves!"
Weapons appeared on the tables, causing the campers to cheer. Ariadne immediately reached for two bronze daggers, stuffing them in her belt, hidden beneath her shirt. Her eyes met the red-plumed helmet, a groan of annoyance fell from her mouth.
Clarisse noticed her hesitation, taking the helmet and pulling it onto her head. The girl walked away with bravado, a cocky attitude following her.
Percy raised his eyebrows at the Dionysus girl, who as not happy to be in red. He wondered what she would've looked like with blue on, he shook his head as he noticed her walking over.
"Your armors on backwards." The boy looked down, only for her to laugh at how gullible he was. Percy hit her shoulder, chuckling while dramatically held her arm.
"Nice helmet." Ariadne glared, pulling a knife out of no where. "Right."
The girl shook her head, "Good luck, Jackson. You're gonna need it if you battle me."
The boy held his head up, "Nah. I think I could take you."
Ariadne punched his shoulder, the boy wincing from how har to was. "Yeah, sure you can."
The teams were parting, Athena going south and Ares going north. Clarisse noticed her staying back, "Let's go, Grape Girl! Stop fraternizing with the enemy!"
"I'm coming, Camo Girl!" She shouted back, rolling her eyes before looking at Percy. The girl leaned in, "Stay safe, Jackson." She whispered before running off, Percy running in the other direction.
***
THE CONCH SOUNDED, AND THAT WAS WHEN SWORDS CLASHING ECHOED THROUGHOUT THE TREES. Metal slashing metal, birds cawing at the sound, flying away from the danger. Clarisse and four other Ares kids marched through, taking down anyone in their path.
Ariadne was following behind, heading towards the flag as she was prepared to take it and run. That was her job. The Ares kids would distract whoever was on border patrol, leaving enough time for her to run in and out. She knew a shortcut, so as long as they could do their jobs, she would be fine.
The girl knocked out the sword of one camper, leaving them be hit with her shield as she ran. Her footsteps were quiet, eyeing the two Apollo cabin members who had their backs towards her. First mistake. Hands wrapped around their mouths, eyes widening as they were thrown to the ground, arrows sticking them to the tree.
Ariadne laughed, it echoing through the trees, alerting Annabeth that her friend was gaining extremely close to their flag. The brunette dodged the arrows aimed at her head, using the shield to block them. She cursed while hiding behind a tree, a smirk slithering across her face as she saw the large rocks next to her.
The girl scooped them up, taking aim before chucking it as high as she could. Obviously, she wouldn't have perfect aim, but the trick worked. Archers fell, grabbing ahold of the branches to slow their descent.
She continued on, hearing Clarisse's voice. "Cream the punk!" Ariadne gasped slightly, seeing as Percy was border patrol. Now her job was to make sure Percy wasn't going to die, along with getting the flag for her team.
Two Ares members lunged forward, targeting the boy. They didn't bother holding back, throwing blow after blow at him. Ariadne couldn't help but feel her anger rise up, screwing the game, she would rather have her team mope than Percy sitting in the infirmary with almost all his bones broken.
The girl took out both cabin members, watching as they fell in the water while squirming, her boots digging into their backs. Clarisse gave her a shocked look, "Wow. Didn't expect a betrayal."
"You know better than to hurt him, he's still learning."
The girl growled, "That's how we survive; we just do it."
Ariadne battled with the rest of the campers, surrounded as her focus was on Percy and Clarisse. The girl had her electric spear pointed at him, thrusting it forwards while he tried fighting back. But the current stung him, his movements faltered, the boy wincing at the pain.
The daughter of Dionysus battled off the last Ares camper, panting as she watched Clarisse taunt Percy. "Give him a haircut. Grab his hair."
Ariadne lunged forward, slightly hoping that Annabeth would show up. But Clarisse seemed to sense what she was doing, her spear colliding with the brunette's forearm, causing her to falter.
She hissed, tears coating her eyes as her skin sizzled form the heat. Percy watched her, eyes full of worry while trying to recollect himself, only for his sword to be knocked away instantly.
"Oh, wow." Clarisse spoke, obviously mocking him. "I'm scared of this guy. Really scared."
Ariadne twisted her sword in hand, walking quietly behind the siblings that had stood up. Eye narrowed, meeting Percy's as she slightly shook her head, he got the memo. "The flag is that way." He squeaked out, the poor boy couldn't catch a break, and that seemed to fuel her fire even more.
Brittany, who Ariadne was not exactly fond of, spoke up. "Yeah, but see, we don't care about the flag." Purple eyes locked onto the back of the girl's head, full of rage. The cabin only wanted to humiliate Percy, not actually wanting to win. "We care about a guy who made our cabin look stupid."
"You do that without my help." Percy was good at stalling, or maybe it was the witty personality she got to know over the time spent together. Thankfully, Ariadne was able to make a move. She smacked the butt of her sword against Brittany's back, the girl letting out a cry as she dropped to the ground.
Percy stepped into the creek, Clarisse aiming the spear at his ribs before jabbing them. Ares members dropped like flies around Ariadne, her eyes lit up with anger. The girl drop-kicked her shield into Xavier's face once he gave Percy a good slice on his arm, the boy went flying back, moaning from the pain.
Ariadne grabbed Clarisse's hair, yanking it as she screeched. The spear was sent for her torso which she dodged, "Come on, Clarisse, don't let a twelve year old take you down."
The older girl growled, "Don't worry, Grape Girl, I won't." Striking Ariadne in the cheek was the best hit she had ever gotten on the girl, the brunette gasping as the currents ran throughout her body. Igniting pain deep inside, her face burning.
She rushed forwards, sword clashing with spear while the two fought. Ariadne kept her eyes focused, blocking any further hits from Clarisse. But the Ares girl had other plans, "Hey, I never did ask why your mom left you at the borders?"
The Dionysus girl froze slightly, arms going stiff at the mention of her memory. Clarisse took that time to strike her, causing Ariadne to crumple, holding her leg while eyeing the massive burn on it.
Her eyes were drawn away, hearing the screams of Ares members. She watched as Percy took them all down with little effort, causing her to be a bit defensive due to how well he was doing, almost as well as she would usually do.
Clarisse charged forward, spear at the ready but Percy caught it in-between his sword and shield, cracking it down the middle. Ariadne's eyes went wide, a slight chuckle of amusement and amazement falling from her lips.
Clarisse was angry, rampant. "Ah! You Idiot!" She cried out, nostrils flaring like a bull would in a ring. "You corpse-breath worm!"
Percy looked done with her, the butt of his sword colliding into the space between her eyes. She fell with a large splash into the creek, defeated by the boy.
His sea-green eyes locked onto Ariadne, who began attempting to stand, but her leg injury proving the task difficult. He held onto her hands, pulling her up as he wrapped an arm around her waist to keep her steady.
Ariadne pressed her leg into the ground, biting her lip to prevent any sound of pain from escaping. She scanned over the fallen children of Ares, gazing up at Percy. "How?" Was all she spoke, a hush whisper that was full of curiosity.
He shrugged, opening his mouth before being cut off by loud cheers. Luke was sprinting as hard as he could, racing towards the boundary line as his team fought off the red team. The blond held the Ares flag, causing Ariadne's jaw to clench, remembering what her job was supposed to be. She somewhat felt bad, but then again, Clarisse was planning on running Percy through with her spear so the guilt didn't last long.
Clarisse, who had finally risen along with her siblings, shouted. "A trick! It was a trick!"
Luke had made it across, blue team carrying him on their shoulders whilst they cheered madly. Red team sent Ariadne dangerous looks, once Chiron blew the conch horn, disappointed but also angry at her for not grabbing the Athena flag.
She gulped at the look Clarisse was giving her, the look her brothers were giving her. The girl hated the knives being stabbed into her head by the red team, she had let them down. Her eyes blinked away the angry tears ready to spill, trying to keep a cool and calm exposure so she could cry in a tree once this was all over.
"Could almost call that pretty amazing." Annabeth spoke up, Ariadne sighed at the sight of her friend yanking the Yankee hat off her head. Of course she was there, seeing the brunette being a disappointment to her cabin and team.
Percy, who was suddenly angry the the Athenian girl, spoke up. "You set me up." Ariadne stepped back, letting Percy's arm fall. She didn't want to be caught up In the argument, but the girl wobbled without him. "You put me here because you knew Clarisse would come after me, while you sent Luke around the flank. You had it all figured out."
"I told you," Annabeth shrugged nonchalantly, not caring for his attitude. "I told you. Athena always, always has a plan. I also developed some of it by watching Ariadne, she has good tactics."
He whipped his head around to look at the brunette, who wobbled slightly while sending her friend a glare. "Don't get me caught up in this argument."
Percy shook his head, not wanting to argue with the purple-eyed demigod. He didn't want to lose one of his only friends. Annabeth sighed, "I was meant to help you, but... I saw Ariadne with you. And besides, you didn't need help."
Ariadne limped over, tilting her head she watched Percy's injuries start fading. She cringed at the burning sensation in her leg, electing to ignore it. "You really are full of surprises, aren't you?"
Percy glances down, puffing his chest out a bit as he noticed the cuts. "Sword cut. What do you think?"
"No." Annabeth spoke up, "It was a sword cut."
The cuts faded completely, leaving only dried blood behind. Percy became confused once again, "I-I don't get it."
Ariadne felt her breath get caught in her throat, looking towards Annabeth, hoping her idea wasn't right, hoping the Athena girl had another plausible explanation. "Step out of the water, Percy."
"What--"
Ariadne insisted, "Perc," he glanced over, "just do it."
One his feet moved from the water he stumbled, all adrenaline leaving his body, exhaustion seeping into his bones. Ariadne caught him, but without causing her extreme pain. Her burn pulsated, throbbing with pain while she held the boy by the waist, making sure he didn't crumble to the ground.
But her eyes blinked rapidly, staring at Annabeth who gave her a sorry expression. "No. No, no, no, no. Oh, gods. This isn't.... this isn't good. Oh, gods."
Annabeth muttered to herself, Ariadne taking deep breath as she tried to control her emotions. Sweat stuck to her skin, she was tired. Wanting to cry and sleep was the best thing she could think of, but a growl stopped that from happening.
It made her shiver slightly, or maybe it was the pain. Cold surrounded her body, alerting that something was near. Her bones felt stiff, muscles locked in place as goosebumps traveled along her body.
Percy tightened his grip on her, not knowing what was going on. He felt the air turn cold, Chiron darted his head around. "Stand ready!" He roared in Ancient Greek, "My bow!"
Ariadne tried moving her hand from Percy, but if she remove dit fully, the two would go tumbling. Annabeth stood at the ready, archers pulled their bow strings back as the eerie silence crept up on them.
Soon, the Dionysus girl gasped at the sight of the devil dog on the rocks, blood-red eyes full of death staring at them. It's dagger-like-fangs gleaming, allowing everyone to see how sharp they were.
The hellhound glared at Percy, eyes locked on its target. Ariadne took a deep breath, trying to keep a hushed whisper. "Percy, run. Go."
The hellhound jumped.
Percy pushed her back, causing her to be sent to the ground, away from the beast that knocked against his chest. It clawed at his armor, easily slicing through it as the metal tore apart. Blood seeped through, Ariadne's eyes widening as arrows did nothing.
Her nails sunk into the ground, eyes glowing a bright purple as she felt a new sense of energy hit. She rushed forwards, twisting her ring into its golden sword. Ariadne propelled her weapon forward, every camper smelling the hint of grape in the air before vines sprouted form the ground. They were huge, latching onto the dog, tightening around as it struggled.
The hellhound let out a great yelp, the vines squeezing it tighter. But its suffering ended once a sword stabbed through its side, removing itself quickly as it slumped to the ground. Vines unraveled, before retreating back into the grass, as if it was never there.
Ariadne let out a breath, her arm dropping limply before she collapsed next to Percy, creating heavily. Her eyes caste towards her leg, no burn in sight. All her the injuries had miraculously closed up, healing without a trace.
The camp was silent. Demigods taking in what had just happened, mostly Caster and Pollux wondering what their sister had just done. Annabeth couldn't speak, mouth open while she watched her friend lay on the ground.
Percy turned his head, looking at the girl who had saved him. Her eyes met his, a small smile of exhaustion was given before it fell. The boy grabbed her hand in his, giving what ever energy he could into a squeeze of thanks. She squeezed back, a relief on his part.
Chiron faced them with a grim expression, looking towards the two on the floor. Annabeth shook her head, "Di immortals. That's a hellhound from the Fields of Punishment. They don't... they're not supposed to..."
The Centaur never let is eyes stray from the ground, "Someone summoned it. Someone from inside the camp."
Ariadne shut her eyes tightly, who would want to do such a thing? Whoever it was, she was going to make them pay.
Sadly, Luke's moment was gone. Overshadowed by the almost death and miraculous saving of Percy Jackson and Ariadne Phoenix.
Clarisse, who Ariadne wished would shut up, shouted. "It's all Percy's fault! Percy summoned it!"
The brunette growled, almost attacking her despite her weak state. Thankfully, Chiron had no patience for the blame game. "Be quiet, child." Which caused Clarisse to become a dejected puppy, almost making Ariadne laugh.
The hellhound dissolved into a mass of shadows, melting into the ground as it sank. Everyone was better after that, although, they didn't doubt Ariadne's killing skills, shad had seemed to do a perfect job.
Ariadne noticed Percy still bleeding, "Water." She croaked, her throat dry.
"I'm okay."
The girl glared with what little energy she had left, "Water. Now." The boy obliged, stepping into the small creek as his wounds healed. She gave a sigh of relief, Annabeth helping her up.
But that relief was short lived however, a dark green light illuminating everyone's faces. Above Percy's head, sat a spinning trident.
A son of Poseidon had been claimed.
But the boy had no idea, apologizing for something he couldn't control. "Look, I-I don't know why. I'm sorry--"
Annabeth snapped, "Percy." Her finger shakily pointing above him, "Um..."
His eyes widening, the sea-green similar to the trident itself. Now Ariadne knew why she always thought she saw oceans in his eyes, because Poseidon was his father.
"It is determined." Chiron announced, his voice breaking the tense silence.
Annabeth kneeled, bringing Ariadne down gently as the girl followed. The rest of the campers did as well, Ares making a fit about it. The brunette closed her eyes tightly, the burning trident present in her mind.
Percy was stunned, "My father?"
Chiron tried to remain strong, but his voice was shaky. "Poseidon. Earth-shaker, Storm-bringer, Father of Horse. Hail, Perseus Jackson, Son of the Sea God."
The Centaur's eyes directed towards Ariadne, who gazed up at the boy. Percy gazed back, only looking toward her for a sense of comfort. Daughter of the Vines. Son of the Sea. He sighed, the prophecy had begun.
Ariadne made contact with the trident above Percy's head, eyes never wavering from it. Son of the Sea. She heard a melodic voice chant in her head, mind buzzing with torment. Her head went fuzzy, eyes blurring everything. A pain was sent down her spine before she ultimately closed her eyes and feel to the ground.
Darkness followed, her mind tormenting her with the fact that a son of Poseidon had entered camp.
It was exactly like Theseus and Ariadne.
Perseus Jackson would be her downfall.
authors note:
this was so fun to write, holy crap.
