daehyun was an unexpected pregnancy. his mother had not wanted to keep him at first for financial reasons, given that just a month prior to discovering they were going to have him they'd moved from poland to south korea. his father had insisted so, eight months later, he was born, and had almost killed his mother.

throughout his upbringing, he always felt as though his presence was unwanted. although his brothers were named as such, he was given a contrasting name that subtly but noticeably alienated him from them. his mother's love, too, seemed to fall short towards him. she was always stricter with him in regards of chores, schoolwork, his overall attitude and respect towards her. she wasn't physically abusive, but he grew up terrified of her emotional neglect and overall manipulation. his father, on the other hand, had always been a supporting shoulder. he was not often physically present due to his job that required him to travel every other week, but he always made sure to check in with daehyun and talk to him if he ever needed it. as such, daehyun cut off contact with his mother at 19 but continued to speak with his dad regularly.

in his school years, he was often bullied. more so in the earlier half of his academic life, he experienced a lot of remarks and mocking of his foreign looks, mainly his face. he didn't have many friends, and those he did have often ended up disappointing him in one way or another either by show of mild racism or some form of manipulation. in the latter half of his academic life, he focused heavily on his studies and isolated himself from others, often spending hours into the night at the public libraries and cram schools. he graduated in the top three of his class and went onto to study web design in an accelerated course in university, graduating with an undergraduate degree in just two years.

romance wise, he never properly dated, for he felt as though it would have been a waste of time and a potentially painful endeavour. he had a short-lived situationship with a classmate in his first year of university, which served him only in discovering he had no interest in women and that the identity he'd fabricated in school had to be left. it had ended with neutral agreement, though daehyun secretly wished it wouldn't. he was fairly popular in his second year of uni— at which point he'd found his identify and style and grown into his unique features— and was asked out often, but he declined all approaches.

after graduating, he moved into a small studio apartment in the middle of seoul and found himself a job as a web designer. he accumulated a fair amount of wealth quite fast, but elected to stay in the studio because of the low rent and location. presently, he lives in that studio still, and spends most of his time inside, working or indulging in his hobbies.
