CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO !
"WOAH, WHAT HAPPENED?" Charlie rushed over to Alyssa.
Alyssa wiped her nose before responding, "Moon apparently has a girlfriend now."
"Girlfriend?" Hawk exclaimed, as he walked over and leaned against the door frame.
Charlie kept her arm around Alyssa as she turned to face Hawk, "told you."
"Huh?" Alyssa asked as she lifted her head.
"Nothing, come on." Charlie shook her head, leading Alyssa back to the party, with Hawk following close behind.
They made their way to the food table, while Hawk settled onto the sofa. Charlie grabbed a plate and filled it with food for Alyssa, then handed it to her. "You'll find someone soon, I'm sure of it," she reassured. "Maybe Moon and the girl are just having something casual, you never know."
Alyssa shrugged and huffed, stuffing her face as she kept her eyes fixed on Moon and the unfamiliar curly-haired girl on the couch, kissing.
Charlie kept her arm rested on Alyssa's shoulder and smiled when she noticed Hawk and Demetri talking on the couch. Hawk seemed genuinely happy, and she felt relieved that they were finally talking.
However, her attention shifted back to Alyssa, the girl's eyes still on Moon and her girlfriend. Charlie took Alyssa's hand and led her outside, "Come on."
The two girls stepped outside and cheered on Tory as her and Sam did the drinking game. Charlie stayed close to Tory, ready to lend a hand if needed, but Tory seemed to hold alcohol just fine.
After a few drinks, someone yelled at Tory, causing her to stumble and fall. Charlie quickly grabbed her shoulder, and both girls ended up on the ground, though she managed to cushion the fall slightly.
"Guess somebody couldn't handle their liquor, huh?"Sam smirked from her stool.
Miguel bent down to help Tory up, but she pushed him away, "I'm gonna go clean up. Just leave me alone."
Tory walked off, and Charlie followed, sprinting to catch up. She saw Tory walk into the bathroom, finding her leaning against the sink.
"You okay?" Charlie asked, approaching her cautiously.
"Yeah, I'm fine," Tory replied, pushing her hair out of her face. "Just a little sore."
Charlie offered a half-smile and apologized, "Sorry about Sam."
Tory shook her head, taking a sip of the drink she had grabbed. "That girl loves to run her mouth."
Charlie remained silent, torn between defending Sam and acknowledging Tory's point. Instead, she wet her finger under the tap and gently wiped away smudged mascara from Tory's face. Tory smiled gratefully in response.
They could hear the sound of people's excitement from outside, making Charlie look at Tory questioningly.
She went to leave but stopped when she saw Tory hadn't moved, "you coming?"
"I just need to use the toilet. I'll be out in a minute." Tory explained, and Charlie nodded before exiting.
When Charlie reentered the party, she noticed people gathered around Demetri, who stood by the speakers, holding a microphone.
"All right, that's enough, Demetri." Hawk warned but the boy refused to listen. Charlie glanced at Hawk and could already sense his embarrassment.
"Don't let that angry red hairdo fool you. He's a big softie. We watched every Harry Potter movie together, and he bawled like a baby when Dobby died." Demetri declared, pouting at the end of his statement.
Charlie's gaze shifted between Demetri and Hawk, confused on how earlier they were smiling and talking to each other and now Demetri was sharing his secrets.
"In the words of Eli's hero, Steve Jobs, I've got one more thing. Have any of you heard of sleep enuresis?" Demetri asked, drawing Charlie's attention.
She discreetly approached him and whispered, "Hey, knock it off." but her plea fell on deaf ears. She pursed her lips tightly as he continued.
"That is the medical term, of course. In the king's English, it's good old fashioned bed-wetting." Demetri laughed, raising his fist in the air. He had made the crowd laugh already but he wasn't done, "and Eli here is a pro. My mom even had a special air mattress for sleepovers. And she called it 'Eli's waterbed'. You remember that, charls?"
The boy turned to face Charlie, who chose to ignore him. She hated confrontation, though she would never tell anyone about the Eli thing even if she didn't. That was personal, and he was wrong for bringing it up.
"Screw mercy," Hawk muttered to Mitch, handing him a red cup as he walked towards Demetri. "You're a corpse!"
Charlie went to stop him, but to her relief, Chris was already there. "Your gonna have to go through me first."
As the boys argued, Charlie directed her attention to Demetri. "What was that all about?"
"What?" Demetri shrugged, raising his hands in defence. "He had it coming."
"You two were talking like five minutes ago!" Charlie scoffed. Before she could continue, the flashing blue and red lights, along with a siren, interrupted them.
"Cops!"
Everyone scattered, except for Robby, Chris and Hawk. The Mohawk boy leaned forward, but Robby and Chris held him back. "Demetri, you got lucky. I'll see you at school!"
Charlie gave up on attempting to reason with Demetri and ran off, heading toward the doors until she bumped into Sam and Robby. "Whoa, is she alright?"
"I can't take her to the LaRusso's," Robby sighed. Charlie took one look at the girl, clearly drunk, and knew her parents would be furious if they saw her.
"Come on, let's take her to dad's," Charlie suggested, wrapping Sam's arm around her shoulder and leading them out the door.
Thankfully, his house wasn't too far away. Charlie knocked on the door, and Johnny's voice could be heard from inside, as if he were expecting someone. However, his smile faded when seeing who it was.
"Hey, Dad."
