(Chapter 2)

Tails' (Boom) POV

《 Modern Sonic and Tails' house 》

I watched as my friend argued with his copy. He hasn't done much else since the other Sonic came back from his night run, resulting in nobody getting any sleep. The other kitsune didn't seem to mind, though. Speaking of the kitsune, where did he go?

I left the two hedgehogs, searching for my copy. Their house was actually a lot bigger than it looks. I wandered down the hall until I reached a closed door. It had a logo imprinted on it. The logo was a blue circle with two yellow tails on top, much like mine. I knocked on the door.

"Come in." I heard the voice of the other fox. I turned the doorknob and entered. What I saw left me in a state of awe. I entered what looked like a workshop. But the thing is, it looked nothing like my workshop. Computers lined one wall, while all sorts of tools lined the other. On one side, many gadgets such as hoverboards, rockets, cannons, and some other weapons were lined. In the middle of it all was a red biplane with the word 'Sonic' painted in bold, white letters. I could see the twin tails of my copy sticking out from under it.

"Wow." I breathed. "How did you afford all this?"

"One of the pros of being a hero. People pay you plenty whenever you fight Eggman. We usually donate most of it and use whatever's left. Can you pass me the wrench?"

"Sure." I grabbed the tool and was about to reach under the plane to pass it to him when he grabbed it... with his tail.

"Thanks. One last bolt, and... done!" He slid out from under the plane, his face sticky and black with oil. He grabbed the towel on the desk and wiped his face, but that made it even worse.

"You have a little something on your entire face."

"I know."

I noticed that his gloves were somehow untouched by the black substance.

"Special type of polymer I made. Nothing stains the gloves that way." He explained.

He looked at the open door:

"They're still at it?"

"Yep."

"Ok... want some mints? I can sneak some here without Sonic noticing."

One more thing we have in common. An addiction to mints.

"Sure!" He sneaked off towards the kitchen, leaving me to my thoughts.

My eyes gazed across the room, landing on a small portrait. I approached it. It seemed to be an old photo. It showed his copy and his brother, only shorter and chubbier. Behind them, was a busted-up canister of some sort, crowded by little creatures that resembled rabbits and squirrels.

Cute.

I flicked an ear as I heard the sound of the other Sonic. I headed towards the kitchen to find a very irritated Sonic and a nervous Tails.

"Taaiils. What did I say about taking the mints?" He said with a scolding voice.

"Don't take the mints without permission." My copy mumbled.

"Put the mints down."

My copy did as told. When he did, Sonic's gaze softened.

"Sorry for that. You know I'm only worried about your health, 'kay little bro?" He rested his hand on the kit's shoulder.

"Yeah." Sonic then pulled him in for a noogie.

"H-hey!" The fox giggled. I then decided to make my presence known.

"What happened?" I asked, pretending as if I didn't just see all that.

"Don't pretend you don't know. I sensed your chaos signature before you came." He replied, my copy still in his grasp.

Chaos signature? What's that?

"Anyway, it's way past your bedtime. You can sleep in my bed for the time being." Wait. Just like that? He's going to let me sleep in his bed?

"Come on, I'll show you to the bedroom." My copy grabbed my hand and practically dragged me up the stairs. He opened a door and stepped inside. Sonic's room was actually a lot tidier than I expected. The walls were sky blue, and the carpet was a checkered green, much like the grass hills we first landed in. On a shelf in the wall were rows of trophies and medals. Many photos were also placed on the shelves. He had a large window, with long, cobalt-blue curtains tied up to the sides. On the windowsill was a small, flowering plant I did not recognize. His bed was matching with the rest of the room. The frame was a checkered brown, and the covers were a rich blue.

"Mobius to Tails. Do you hear me?" I blinked at the fox waving his hand in front of my face.

"Sorry. I'm just a bit..."

"I understand. Anyway, good night!" He waved his hand and walked over to the next door.

"Good night!"

I took off my belt, gloves and socks, and threw myself onto the bed.

It sure beats sleeping on a hammock.

The bed felt cozy, and I soon fell into a deep slumber.

Two emerald eyes gazed onto the sleeping fox. The azure hedgehog tiptoed inside and tucked him in.

"G'night, Tails."

---

I woke up to a delicious smell. Someone was cooking eggs and sausages. I stretched lazily, throwing my bare feet off the bed. I quickly wore the few pieces of clothing I had, and made my way to the bathroom.

After I used the bathroom, I made my way down the stairs, the scent of breakfast leading me. I stopped at the entrance, to find the other three already wide awake.

"Sleep well?" Sonic (Boom) asked.

"That was the best sleep I've had in a while," I replied.

The other Sonic handed out breakfast.

He was a surprisingly good cook, unlike someone who'd just go to Meh Burger every chance he gets.

"So, what's it like in your world?" The other Sonic asked.

"Small place called Hedgehog Village, named after Amy. Every afternoon we fight Eggman for some dumb reason, and we hang out at this place called Meh Burger, since it's the only place to hang out for lunch."

"Dang, your life is dull."

---

We had called our friends for a get-together and talked about what we did the previous day. Amy and Sticks had gone to a place called 'Station Square'. Knuckles followed his shorter (but smarter) copy to 'Angel Island' and was blabbing about how it was flying and stuff. Probably his imagination, if he had one. His copy was just trying to get away from him.

Rouge's POV

I followed the ebony hedgehog as he skated toward an unknown target. He must have sensed some chaos energy. I called out to him:

"Shadow! A gentleman would slow down for a weary bat." I wasn't lying about being weary. I wasn't exactly a morning bird, and on top of that, I didn't get any sleep the previous night.

He must have heard me, since I found him standing under the shade of a palm tree, arms crossed.

"What are you following, anyway?" I asked, panting.

"A chaos signature. Multiple, in fact. They're past this hill."

He grabbed my arm and yelled out the words:

"CHAOS CONTROL!"

The world around me flashed and swirled about. I was used to this, and most likely wasn't going to empty my stomach's contents when we land.

We landed in front of a group of mobians, six of which I recognized.

Five of the mobians eyes widened when they saw Shadow, and they took defensive positions.

Shadow's (modern) POV

I waited for the white bat as she tried to catch up. I couldn't blame her for being tired.

"What are you following, anyway?" She asked.

Isn't it obvious?

"A chaos signature. Multiple, in fact. They're past this hill."

I looked at my companion's half-closed eyes. When we're done, I'm making sure she gets proper sleep.

Not that I care.

I grabbed her arm and used Chaos Control.

We landed in front of a group of mobians.

Four of them I recognized immediately.

Faker, Faker's girlfriend, the fox and the red buffoon.

The remaining five, I did not recognize them entirely.

The blue hedgehog resembled Faker, but was taller, wore a brown bandana and was clearly obsessed with sports tape. I'll call him Faker's Faker.

There was also a twin-tailed fox, a pink hedgehog, a brown and orange badger, and a red echidna about twice my height.

When they saw me, they immediately took defensive positions. Faker's Faker let out a growl.

"Whatever you're up to, Shadow, we'll stop you!"

How did he know my name?

The hedgehog spin-dashed into me as I was distracted, despite Faker asking him not to.

So, it's a fight you want? Then it's a fight you'll get.

I uppercut the hedgehog as he was preparing for another attack. This stunned him for a millisecond, then he shot right up. He was nearly as fast as Faker.

Keyword: Nearly.

I curled up into a ball, spinning in place. In this state, I was almost invincible. I shot forward and used my homing attack on the speeding blur, then warped out of reach. He stumbled, then regained his balance. I barely dodged the hammer that went flying toward me, followed by a boomerang. I glared at the two mobians, and sent two chaos Spears toward them, careful not to harm them. I then focused on my main target, who was rubbing his head. I charged up my chaos spear and was about to throw it, when:

"STOP!" Faker had thrown himself between the two of us. My spear disappeared in a flash.

I crossed my arms.

I watched as Faker helped the blue hedgehog up, sending a glare my way.

The others made their way toward the blue hedgehogs, leaving me and Rouge standing there. Her attention was fixed on the buff echidna. Typical.

"Why did you attack him?" Faker asked the other hog.

"Isn't he evil?" I scoffed at this.

"I'm not evil, dunderhead."

---

Sonic had dragged me along with the group of mobians. I normally would've just warped away, but I had a report to fill out, so I was trying to learn as much as possible.

"Heh. Sorry about earlier, Shadow. We might have mistaken you for someone else." Faker's Faker said. In a short amount of time, they had introduced themselves as an alternate-dimensional version of Team Faker.

"Whose name is also Shadow?" I wasn't very happy, due to being attacked because of a case of mistaken identity. Not that it hasn't happened before.

"He's from our world. He rarely shows up, but when he does, he attacks for no apparent reason. Total edge lord. He also doesn't have your bizzaro powers, other than the teleporting."

"And he's evil?"

"Well, he did try to destroy the entire universe."

I would like to have a talk with my copy. Remind him of a promise.

"How can we trust you? You can be an alien. Or a government agent. Or an alien working for the government!" the badger, Sticks, said.

She hit it spot on.

Faker and I stared at her, surprised.

"Sticks, don't jump to conclusions." Faker's Faker said.

Faker and I shared a look. I wasn't going to be comfortable around this badger. Too paranoid.

Should I tell them? Faker signed.

No. I signed back. GUN agents used sign language since we had to be silent on operations. I guess Faker and his friends use sign language, too.

"What are you doing?" the fox's copy asked.

"I asked Shads a question," Faker replied. I growled at the nickname.

"Don't. Call. Me. Shads."

"Sure, Shads."

That's the last drop.
