Chapter 39

(Background Music ~ Amaria - Two Steps From Hell)

Laura's POV
-(Start Song Here)-
'Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!!!' I frantically thought to myself, while I was starting freak out. My body began to tremble involuntarily in fear; shaking insistently as my hands and other parts of my body continuing to steadily fade away as like being erased with an eraser.

Just as Wesker rapidly dashed towards the two of us, Alex and I ducked and rolled at the same time in opposite directions of one another, smearing mud and grime all over our arms and legs in the process. Resulting in us getting separated from each other. After we've split up from one another, Wesker peered over at Alex for a brief moment. Eyeing her from top to bottom with his reddish-orange, glowing, feline-like eyes. Virtually ignoring her presence before redirecting his gaze at me. A devilish smirk instantly curling onto his lips, starting advancing towards me as my eyes went round. 'Shit...'

"Laura. Whether you like it or not, you are my flesh and blood, my daughter, and my heir. It is in your genes, after all," Wesker stated, as he cobra-striked me. Sending me flying over fifteen feet across the field, and prompting me to collide right into one of the massive trees in the public park. I groaned vehemently in pain, upon impact with the thick, uneven surface of the enormous oak tree before eventually falling down. I crumpled onto the ground beneath me; grime and grass smearing all over hands and feet.

"Laura, he isn't real! Remember! Another mirage recreated by your mind!" Alex yelled in my direction, right as I landed on the ground.

"Yeah! I already know that, sis!" I shouted back, as I slowly stood back up onto my own two feet. Slightly grimacing in pain. As I glanced back and forth between my twin sister and my father, an idea came into mind, but it wasn't exactly going to be an easy one. "Alex, I need you distract Dad! Stall him for as long as you can."

"And how the fuck am I supposed to do that!? Steal his sunglasses and play 'Keep Away' from him!?"

I closed my eyes—focusing all of my energy and concentrating hard for a moment to make the particular objects appear. Since we're inside my mind, I have control over our environment and everything within here. It's my mind after all, so it's high time I put my abilities to the test.

After I centralized my thoughts, I opened my eyes. Seeing a fully loaded T91 assault rifle appear in Alex's hands along with a bullet proof vest strapped around her chest, filled with pouches that are practically stuffed with ammo for the rifle. Alex glanced up at me; a familiar smirk decorating her lips.

"Laura, you know me so well," She affirmed, as she cocked the rifle. Aiming it right at the mirage of Dad.

"Less talking, more shooting sis!" I raised my voice at her, reminding Alex about her current task at hand.

"Alright, alright already. Geez. One distracted but pissed off hallucination of Dad coming right up!" Alex asserted, right as she pulled the trigger, firing the assault rifle at Dad. The sounds of nothing but gunshots echoed all throughout the entire field and the rest of the playground, turning into nothing more than a provisional battlefield. His eyes immediately changed colors; glowing blood red beneath his sunglasses. Nothing but numerous animalistic growls escaped through his thin lips.

The instant Dad's attention was fixed on Alex, he directed his gaze over at her. Clenching his fists and popping his knuckles before sprinting right at her; dodging the stream of bullets in slow motion, all while Alex persistently shot at Wesker. 'Now's my chance.' I thought to myself, as I closed my eyes again. I began to channel my energy and thoughts once more, pressing two fingers on both sides of my temple.

As I concentrated strenuously on making Dad disappear into thin air, whilst his attention was momentarily centered on Alex, nothing happened. He didn't disappear, vanish, nor fade away like I currently am right now. I closed my eyes and tried again, centralizing all of thoughts to focus on making Dad disappear, only to get the same result. Nothing. Nothing at all. 'What the hell!? I was easily able to make that assault rifle and bullet proof vest appear for Alex, but why can't make Dad fucking disappear?!? This is not good...'

"What's taking so long Laura?!" Alex shouted, as she blocked another one of Dad's panther fang attacks. Her assault rifle sitting only a few feet away from her, on the grass-covered ground.

"I don't know, Alex!" I shifted my gaze over towards my twin sister. "It's like he's a permanent part of me I can't erase!"

"That's because he is a part of you, Laura. He's our father after all," A hair-raising voice spoke up from behind me.

I turned around, seeing me. Standing about about ten feet far away from me. Well, the evil version of me technically, dressed in the black tactical gear I wore just hours earlier. Her slitted, feline-like eyes glowed bright red; exactly like Dad's. A tiny malicious smirk curled onto her lips, as she began to stroll over towards me. Like a predator closing in on its next prey.

"When are you gonna realize it, Laura? Huh? How are you supposed to move on if you can't even except the fact that our father is an infamous and notorious bioterrorist. A monster in your eyes. A demon that simply doesn't care about our well-being." Evil Laura walked up to me, pushing me onto the muddy ground with her gloved hands.

"But that's not true, Laura." I redirected my gaze—seeing another version me stand over me. The eight year old version of me when I was hospitalized.

"Daddy does care about you, about us. He loves us more you think, Laura. If he didn't, he would've never had come to see us at the hospital in the first place. Daddy would've left us for dead; we wouldn't even be alive right now."

"You need to face the facts Laura." I looked behind me—seeing another copy of me. Modeling the exact same clothing as me, except she's critically injured; virtually covered in blood from head to toe. She was clutching onto her bleeding stomach with both of her hands. Blood gushed from the various gun shot wounds, dribbling all over her hands and trickling onto the ground. "Whether you believe it or not, it's the truth. But if you don't admit it here soon, you'll end up dead just like me. Spending the rest of eternity rotting the ground."

"So if you want to live Laura, you have admit it!" Young Laura shouted, using her girly, childish tone of voice.

"Say it! Why do you fear our inhuman father even though he loves us dearly?! Tell us!"

They began chanting "Tell the truth or die!" both simultaneously and persistently; not stopping at all as they started to circle me. I trembled in fear, as I laid on the ground. Trying to figure out what to do. 'Am I afraid of my father? Of course I am! Anyone would be scared of a man who's practically inhumane and capable of killing you in more ways than one! But does he really love me? Even though he actually hasn't admitted it yet?' I thought to myself, as my part of left leg started to fade away along with my hands.

"Laura!" I swiftly glanced over at Alex, while she was being pinned against a tree by Dad. Alex cursed under her breath, as her body began to slowly fade away. "Listen to me closely sis, I running out of time since I'm gonna wake up any minute now. Even though it doesn't seem like it, Dad does love and care about us! Both of us! He just expresses his adoration of us differently than most fathers do! You know that as much as I do sis! He would never do anything to hurt us! Why do you think he came to Seattle just as the viral outbreak occurred?! He knew what was going on and was trying to get you out of there before they could get their hands on you..!" By the end of her sentence, Alex had entirely vanished. Disappearing into thin air.

The moment Alex was gone, Wesker shifted his gaze over at me, as all three of my clones had disappeared as well. Continuing to chant into the air as if they were still there. Right when he was gonna dash at me and thrust punch me, I stood there. Closing my eyes and balling my fists; finally admitting the honest truth as tears brimmed in my eyes.

"Despite the fact that a part of me hates Dad down to the core, another part of me loves him as well. No matter how wrong it feels to love my wicked man of a father, it still feels right to me because he's had the decency to keep on eye on me for all these years. Ever since I was a baby, he made sure nothing bad happened to me, ensuring that I grew up both happy and healthy in a stable and competent environment. Although, there are still some things he did that I'll never forgive him for. That's entirely on his hands for as long as I live. I kept this bottled up inside of me because I didn't want anyone, especially Uncle Chris, to find out about this. If they did, I feel like they would never forgive me for it." By the end of my forthright confession, countless tears were pouring down my cheeks as I broke down. Crying in an unnerved and anguished manner.

As I steadily opened one of my tear-filled eyes, I see Dad standing a few feet in front of me. Hovering over me. I opened up my other eye, taking in his abnormally calm demeanor. His expression was soft, as a tiny smile decorated his lips. It wasn't a devilish or a malicious one, it was a warm smile. A smile that I've never seen on him before. I froze in place; my heart momentarily skipping a beat. Just seeing that smile on his face made me more scared of him than I should be right now.

As I peered up at him, he held out his gloved hand to me. Offering to help me up off the ground. I narrowed my eyes at him—darting between him and his hand. The moment I know for sure he isn't tricking me, I grasped ahold of his hand. Rapidly pulling me off up the ground and onto my feet.

Once I was back on my own two feet, I felt him caress my cheek. I immediately closed my eyes and flinched upon contact, feeling him wipe away my remaining tears with his gloved thumb while I was frozen in place. After doing so, I looked up at Dad again; he was still smiling. The corners of his mouth were quirked up, as he was glancing down at me.

"I know I seem like the bad guy here Laura, but I'm not. I promise. I am doing everything within my power to protect both you and your sister Alex," Dad told me, his altruistic words echoing in my mind briefly.

Once I regained my composure, I abruptly pulled Dad into a hug for a brief moment, burying my bruised face into his chest. I wrapped my slender, muddy arms around him—hugging him tightly while he clasped his muscly arms around me as well. Embracing me in an unusually compassionate manner.

After some time he let go of me; the feeling of the expensive material lingering for a moment. I stared up at my father, my wide eyes flickering with uncertainty and confusion right as he began to fade away. His body turning into a enormous gust of shimmering, golden colored smoke, almost like fairy dust. Dispersing into the air and gliding away, up into the sky, as my surroundings began to return to normal.

The clouds finally began to clear, while the color of sky returned to its original bright blue. The wind finally started died down, as the park was once again filled with color, vitality, and life. The sounds of children laughing happily and people conversing with one another resonated throughout the area, even thought I was the only one actually still here.

As I glanced around me, the park abruptly began to glow. Radiating brightly, as I closed my eyes and used my hands to cover my face. To shield myself from the sudden radiance of the light. It was long before the whole place was consumed by the pure, white illumination, including me with it.

Chris's POV

After two pints of blood was drawn from Jake, only the doctor returned to the room. Isabelle walked in—carrying two one pint bags in her hands. Completely filled with blood. Jake's blood.

"Where's Jake?" I asked her, noting that neither he or Sherry haven't came back yet.

"Jake's still in my exam room with his girlfriend. Taking a moment to rest since I just drew more than a third of his natural blood supply. So, the boy's gonna be a bit lightheaded for the next couple of hours, but he'll be fine though."

While Dr. Rodriquez went work to give Laura the blood, Leon and Piers went to the cafeteria. Getting a refill of coffee. All of a sudden, Laura woke up and jerked up right, as if waking up from some sort of hellish nightmare. Her unanticipated awakening taking all of us in the room by surprise. She gasped; abruptly sitting up in her hospital bed. Her eyes were wide open, as if she was just resurrected and came back to life. She suddenly began to cough violently, choking on the oxygen tube  that was stuck deep down her throat.
