Chapter 17
Laura's POV
Finally...
After several hours of walking, running, along with battling a lot of B.O.W.s and other horrendous creatures, we're now actually on our way to find my mother. And get her back. I was very determined to find to her, very intent on finding the son of a bitch who had the guts to take her captive.
With the last of my adoptive family now gone, Mom and Uncle Chris are the only other family I had left now. Being bounded by blood. 'I just hope that Emile and the others make it out okay before it's too late.' I thought to myself, while gazing out the car window. Staring at my seemingly apocalyptic surroundings.
I looked away from the window and glanced down at the watch on my wrist, checking the current time. It's 9:31pm right now. Therefore, we have about less than three hours to find Mom, then head towards the evac location before half past midnight. The clock's now ticking. While Ada was driving, she began to explain to Tyler and I where Mom was currently being held. What she herself knew about our troubling situation.
According to Ada, my mother Claire was being held captive in an underground Umbrella Research facility. Located right beneath the Space Needle. Out all the places, I never thought an Umbrella facility would be located right underneath one of the most popular tourist attractions in western Washington. I knew very little about the old pharmaceutical company. Only that it was shut down many years ago for some reason. That reason was covered up entirely by the U.S government, never to be revealed to the public. Despite that fact, Ada didn't really know exactly why Mom and I were being targeted, but she thinks it's because of our genetic relations with my newfound uncle Chris. A guy who's clearly loved dearly by this friends and comrades, but truly hated by his enemies.
"Speaking of Chris, I'm gonna call and let him know where we're heading," I spoke up, digging around my jacket pockets for my PDA.
"That sounds like a good idea, now that you have time to," Tyler agreed.
I grabbed the cellular device out of my leather jacket, dialing his number. 'I hope that he's okay along with everybody else.' I had a feeling that things were only gonna get more difficult from here on out. I held the PDA gently against my ear, while was ringing consistently. I sighed.
"Come on, come on... Please pick up," I mumbled quietly to myself, waiting patiently. After a little bit, he finally picked up.
"Hello?! Rebecca you there?!" Chris inquired over the PDA, using a frantic tone of voice. Thinking it was Rebecca, not his niece.
"Chris, it's me Laura," I clarified.
"Hey kiddo, are you alright!? Where are you!?"
"I'm fine Chris, and so is everyone else. I'm calling you to let you know that I'm heading to the Space Needle right now," I notified him.
"Why the hell are you heading there, Laura?! You should be going to the evac location in Land Union park to get out of the city," Uncle Chris reminded me. I took a deep breath, before explaining to him,
"Listen carefully there isn't much time, there are people after me. Not just the B.O.W.s, I mean really bad people. They've been chasing us all over the city, because I'm their primary target. I don't know why but that's not really important right now. Also, I know where Mom is. She's being held captive in the secret underground Umbrella facility located underneath the Space Needle. Unfortunately, I don't know who kidnapped her either."
"How do you know all of this Laura?!" Uncle Chris questioned me.
Ada briefly glanced over at me through the rear view window, as I was thinking carefully what to say next. My grip tightening partially around the cellular device.
"I was informed by a friend of mine," I affirmed.
"Who?"
I shifted my gaze over at Ada momentarily, doubting whether if I should mention her or not.
"You can tell him dear, I don't mind," Ada insisted, keeping her hands on the steering wheel.
"Are you sure? You know what would happen if I do," I warned her.
"Like I said, I really don't mind at all," She repeated herself, not really caring at all about the consequences. One of the reasons why I admire her.
I gulped. "I was told by Ada... Ada Wong."
I knew as soon as I mentioned her name, Chris was definitely enraged. His breathing was more heavy than before, lowly growling on the other line. I already knew what was about to come next.
"Laura, she's dangerous! You need to stay away from her at all costs!"
"That's not true Chris! If it wasn't for Ada, I would be dead right now Chris. Ada's been keeping me safe, and she saved me multiple times from getting killed. Trust me on this Uncle Chris, please," I begged him.
His breathing slowed down—telling me I managed to barely calm him down a bit. I quietly let out a sigh of relief, wiping the sweat off my forehead. "Is everybody else heading to the evac location?"
"Yes, Ada and I decided that it would be best to split up for everyone's safety. Rebecca and everyone else are heading to Land Union park to evacuate out of the city."
"Okay, I'll meet you there as soon as I can, stay safe," He said then hung up.
"I take that it went well?" Ada inquired.
"Well... He didn't sound too happy at all when I mentioned you Ada. Other than that, I told him where we're heading. So he's gonna meet as soon as he can," I answered, with an honest tone of voice.
"Why does he hate you anyways Ada? Did you really cause the outbreak in China two years ago?" Tyler questioned her.
"It's more complicated than it sounds. Lets just say that a doppelgänger was involved, and I was blamed because of her."
Ada didn't seem like the type of person that would go deep into detail just about anything during a conversation. More of a private person if you ask me. She always simplifies what's usually thrown at her, which is understandable.
I leaned my back against the soft black leather seat, getting comfortable once again. It was going to be a little bit before we actually get there. Might as well try to get some sleep to help conserve my remaining energy. My eyelids started to grow more heavy, with each second passing by. My breathing pace grew much slower, but more constant at the same time. Once I was hit with a wave of drowsiness, I was out like a light.

"We're here," Ada announced abruptly, as she pulled up to the empty round about next to the colossal tourist attraction.
I steadily opened my eyes—stretching out my arms as I glanced up through the window at our destination. I unbuckled my seatbelt, grabbing my assault rifle by the strap then opened the car door. Hopping out of the vehicle.
"How'd you sleep Laura?" Tyler asked me, right as he approached me.
"I slept okay," I replied, as I yawned and rubbed my eyes with my free hand.
"Listen up." We simultaneously glanced over at Ada, treading over towards us. "Once you get inside, head on over to the main elevator at center of the first floor," She explained to us. "Here, take these." Ada threw two small USB drives at me, catching them. They looked almost exactly identical to one another, except the fact that they were different colors. One was black, and the other was red.
"What are these?" I inquired, examining the devices in my hands.
"They're USB flash drives. The red one is programmed with all the access codes needed to bypass through the high-tech security system and get you guys into the facility. The black one is your little birthday present from me to you, make sure you don't lose it. It will come in handy later," She informed me. "Got it," I acknowledged her. "Anyway, back to the plan. On the side of the elevator panel, there's a USB port hidden where the red USB flash drive would be plugged in. Once that's done, the panel will open up and reveal another panel with a small keyboard and finger scanner. Then, all you have to do Laura is scan your fingerprint and you'll be on your way." Ada turned around, walking away from us.
"Wait a minute! Where are you going?"
"I got last minute business to take care of first," Ada replied, as she took out her grappling gun. hooting it nearly at the top of the Space Needle. "See ya later," Ada said it us, as the wire from her grappling gun started to recoil. Taking her off the ground. Flying up very high into the sky. She left us straightaway, now nowhere in sight.
"What the hell! Why'd she just bail out on us!" Tyler yelled, using an irritated tone of voice.
"I don't know Tyler." I tucked away the USBs into my jean pocket. "But we bigger things to worry about right now," I reminded him. Trying focus back upon our main objective.
"You're right. Let's go." Tyler turned around, making his way towards the entrance of the Space Needle.
I stood there for a moment—staring at the top of the building. I don't why I was feeling this way, but it felt like someone was watching Tyler and I right now. Surveilling the two of us since we've arrived. Someone sinister... and dark. I've got a bad thing about this.
"Hey Laura, you coming?" Tyler asked me, glancing back at me for a moment.
"Yeah, hold on. I'm coming." I dashed over towards Tyler, catching up to him at the front entrance.
With our backs to the wall, we leaned up against both sides of the double doors. I had my assault rifle out, fully loaded, cocked, and in hand. Tyler gripped onto his Silver Ghost handgun, hovering his finger over the trigger. I tensed up a bit, upon hearing the moans and groans of the undead from inside the building. 'Looks like we got company.'
"You ready?" Tyler asked, cocking his handgun.
"As ready as I'll ever be," I replied, with a confident tone of voice.
On cue, we kicked the doors open. Heading inside the B.O.W. infested building.
Chris's POV
After splitting up from the rest of Alpha team, Piers and I began heading for the Space Needle. Located right near the heart of the industrious, busy city.
Despite the circumstances, I'm still very uncomfortable with the fact that Laura's with Ada Wong. The deceitful and treacherous bioterrorist bitch, that I saw die a couple of years ago back in China with my very own eyes. 'How the hell she is back?'
I tried my very damn hardest to not let my boiling rage take over—maintaining my composure during the car ride. Not only for my sake, but also for Claire and Laura's sake as well. I kept clenching and unclenching my fists around my gun, a sign of my raging temper. Going unnoticed by Piers, as he was driving the military truck through the abandoned streets of Seattle.
To calm myself down, I tried to think of something else that would help keep focused. It took me a moment, but something did come to mind. Something that I treasure dearly above mostly everything else in my life...
Family.
Just thinking about my pregnant wife and my son at home waiting for me, helped soothe my vexed mood. While we were getting through the city infested with the undead, I grabbed a small old picture I had always kept with me in my pocket. Holding it in front of me with my hands.
It was an old picture of Claire and I during the 80s, from when we used to be kids. I always kept this picture with me, no matter wherever I went. While I'm on a mission, in a business meeting, at the grocery store, etc. It was very important to me. Kinda like a good luck charm if you ask me. Aside from my being my personal lucky charm, it was a reminder. Reminding me on a daily basis of the real reason why I fight against bioterrorism...
To protect the ones I love. My friends, family, mostly importantly, the whole world from the destruction and chaos that bioterrorism can cause.
In the picture, I was about fourteen around the time it was taken. Claire being only around seven or eight years old at that time. It was a hot summers day, she was dressed better than I was for the warm weather. We were hiking through the woods, located in the backyard of our childhood home. I was giving little Claire a piggy back ride on my back, as we enjoyed the the hot summer sun and walked along the dirt trail together. Admiring at the beauty and tranquility the forest possessed.
'Man... Those were the good old days.' Sometimes, I wish I could relive that part of my childhood. There was no mayhem, no war, no problems, and lastly, no bioterrorism. Now, Claire's missing. No where to be seen. Her daughter is now in unimaginable danger and needs our help. And Umbrella coincidentally has some sort connection in all of this. I was pulled away from my deep thoughts when Piers announced,
"Captain, we're here."
I tucked the small picture away into my pocket—looking out the truck window at the tallest building in the city. Piers parked the vehicle behind the black SUV, that was abandoned on the side of the roundabout.
"Do you think Laura made it here safely?" Piers questioned me, as he turned off the truck engine.
"I can only hope so Piers," I responded, grabbing ahold my rifle.
The two of us unbuckled our seat belts—getting out of the vehicle with our rifles in hand. As we scouted the surrounding area, the first thing we noticed was that there weren't any B.O.W.s in sight. We sprinted up to the front doors—positioning ourselves beside them. On cue, Piers and I kicked the doors open, hurrying inside with our weapons cocked and fully loaded.
Once inside, Piers and I spitted the bodies of numerous infected everywhere on the floor. Majority of them had bullet holes in their head. Some of them had their heads smashed to pieces, fragments of their rotten skull and pieces of decaying brain tissue remained scattered all over the floor. While the rest of them had their necks snapped, their heads laying at uneven angles along the tile floor. As if someone just took care of them, and recently.
"It looks like someone was recently here," Piers pointed out the obvious.
"I know, still we have to be on our guard. Come on," I stated, as we treaded forward. Attentive to our surroundings.
While heading further inside the building, we heard someone shout out loud, in a joyful tone of voice,
"Chris!!!"
