Chapter thirty seven; The vault of the Lestranges

<=>

It didn't take long for Olivia to feel nauseous as they moved at a fast pace underground. On the cart that they were seated in the wheels attached to the tracks twisted round in circles to accommodate the way the track bent. The wheels moved upside down but the entire time, they remained upright and it knocked Olivia sick.

Hermione couldn't believe it. The extremes Olivia had faced in her life and some of the things she had done without an ounce of hesitation but a ride through the vaults at a fast pace made her ill. Hermione actually came to laugh as she looked to Olivia, "I can't believe it!" She shouted over the noise, "The things you've done and you're scared of something like a rollercoaster!"

Olivia had two responses. One, what the heck was a rollercoaster and two, she was not scared. She dragged her head upwards and looked to Hermione while holding up a finger, "Two things Hermione. One, what the hell is a rollercoaster and two, I am not scared. I just simply feelโ€”" She cut herself off as she gagged when the wheels twisted above them again.

All it was, was that it was making her nauseous. That, and she had been throwing up all day.

Hermione smiled, "Whatever you say, Olivia."

The girl groaned as her stomach flipped, "Go to hell, Granger."

Griphook had been driving the cart and they had brought along the goblin Harry had apparently cast the imperious curse on. They hadn't been going for much longer when the overpowering sound of water filled their ears and they came to a large waterfall underneath them. Harry looked to the goblin while he pulled on the breaks, "What is that Griphook?"

Olivia, once again, forced herself to look up and managed to see the large waterfall for herself before they rounded a corner. She looked to Harry and shook her head, "Harry." She complained, "That doesn't look good."

The corner they had followed had opened out on to the waterfall and they were heading right for it. There was no clear path around it and unless Griphook could get the cart to stop in time they were going straight under the water.

"Harry!" Olivia shouted this time, as the running waterfall increased in sound.

Harry looked to the goblin again and called his name in a panic as they drew nearer and nearer to the water. Four, three, twoโ€”

Freezing cold water hit them in one quick spurt as they went through it. Olivia cried out in frustration from the cold and as the chilly air hit her. Not even ten seconds later the cart finally pulled to a halt and they jutted forwards slightly.

Sodden wet, the five of them watched as something extended from the top of the cart and a light started flashing while an alarm called out.

A deep sigh passed through Olivia's lips as despair twisted on her face, "Oh shit."

From out of nowhere the seat Olivia had been sat on disappeared into nothing and she, along with the others, fell out of the cart and when hurdling towards the stone floor underneath them at a great speed.

They screamed as they fell freely through the air and fell to their doom at the bottom of the chasm.

Olivia had closed her eyes in a hope to make falling to her death easier but had no other option than to snap them open as she felt like someone had caught her in the air, pulling her to an immediate stop. With her eyes open she noticed just how close to the ground she had stopped before she dropped that final little inch or so and hit the floor on her front.

She groaned as she pushed herself up on to all fours before finding her feet again, "Wha-what an earth happened there?" She stuttered, looking to her companions with wide eyes.

"Hermione used the slowing charm, well done by the way." Ron said, turning to Hermione and wafting his hand lazily.

Hermione nodded back before her eyes widened. Olivia's, too, widened as she faced the real Ron and Hermione, "Wait a minuteโ€”" She reached for her own wet hair and pulled it in front of her, groaning when she saw all black.

Above them, the still beeping alarm attached to the cart continued as the cart moved on it's own accord, back to where they had come from.

"Oh no, you look like you again." Harry said, slightly out of breath as he looked between Hermione, Ron and Olivia.

"The thief's downfall." Griphook said, "Washes away all enchantments, can be deadly."

Olivia narrowed her eyes at the goblin, "Why in the shit didn't you tell us this before? A notice would've been dandy."

"Yeah." Ron agreed, "Just out of interest, is there any other way out of here?"

Griphook had absolutely no empathy and no knowledge of letting a person down lightly. When he delivered the blow to Ron by shaking his head, his answer was just as blunt, "No."

Olivia felt her eye twitch in irritation, "Well isn't that justโ€”"

"โ€”What in the devil are all you doing down here?"

Olivia looked down to her left to see the second goblin that had been the one to grant them access into the vaults. Now he was closer, Olivia could make out the name on the nametag he wore on his jacket. His name was Bogrod and apparently the imperious curse Harry had cast on him in the bank had conveniently been washed away.

When Bogrod, or whatever his name was, turned to Griphook to start on him Olivia pulled her own wand out from the sleeve of her robe and directed it to the goblins forehead. There was minimal chance of them still succeeding in finding a Horcrux and living to tell the story, but with Bogrod around the chances decreased drastically.

"Imperio."ย

The four looked to Olivia with different expressions.

"What?" She shrugged her shoulders, "He was getting annoying."

After forcing themselves passed a rather large Ukrainian Ironbelly, with the help of Griphook, they had finally made it to the Lestrange Vault.

While it looked like absolute carnage and it was abundantly clear the Lestranges were top class hoarders there was something about their vault that seemed different. As mad as it sounded, Olivia could sense something in air around them. She wasn't sure wether she was sensing enchantments or if something was about to happen but it left her feeling off.

She shivered with the cold air against her wet body and hung back behind Harry, Ron and Hermione while keeping her wand raised and her light on.

Hermione looked around, "Accio Horcrux."

"Your seriously not gonna try that one again are you?" Ron asked.

Griphook spoke, "That kind of magic won't work in here."

Olivia pouted, "What a kick to the balls, that's narrowing our chances even further."

Ron turned round to face her, "Does anything positive ever come from your mouth?"

Olivia narrowed her eyes at Ron, "Sometimes."

Hermione glared at the two while Ron turned back to Harry, "Is it in here Harry?" He asked, "Can you feel anything?"

She watched as Harry pressed his lips together in a thin line while looked around the vault space. There was all sorts of clutter everywhere and even though some looked valuable, most to Olivia looked like a distraction. It crossed her mind that most of the items in the vault had been placed there deliberately. With her brows drawn in and her eyes narrowed she examined every little item while stepping forwards, if there really was a Horcrux in this vault Olivia would be able to hear some part of it.

It was almost comical to her as in perfect sync with her words the faint screeching sound of a Horcrux rang in her ears. She pursed her lips, "It's in here alright." She told them, "I can hear it."

While Olivia could hear them, she couldn't look at something and immediately know it was the Horcrux, she had to leave the finding down to Harry. All she could do was look and point, wondering if that little item was it or if it was something different. It didn't take much longer for Harry to find it amongst the clutter, "That's it, up there."

There came their next mistake.

Olivia looked upwards to the very top of the vault just as Hermione had knocked something on to the floor with a gasp. Although sat at the very top, like a star on a Christmas tree, on the highest pile of clutter was a golden cup. It was no bigger than the palm of a persons hand and Harry immediately dashed forwards to retrieve the item.

He, apparently ignored the ongoing problem as Olivia turned to see what was making the continuous noise of items falling. What she saw was a golden ring duplicating, first into two and then three and four and so on.

Ron knocked into the table behind him while trying to avoid the duplicates and accidentally knocked a plate on to the floor, that started to duplicate.

"Oh my god." Olivia uttered in disbelief as the noise of items duplicating grew louder, "What is this?"

"They've added the Gemino curse, everything you touch will duplicate." Griphook informed.

Olivia shot him a deadpan stare as her mouth dropped open. She threw her head back in despair and looked to the ceiling of the vault, "Come on Merlin, don't be a twat." She said, "Give us a fucking break."

After she uttered them words she stepped back and on to something else that had fallen on to the floor. It started to duplicate immediately and Olivia groaned.

"Give me the sword!" Harry called over the chaos as the clutter pooled at their ankles. It was growing higher and they were ultimately sinking in it. Hermione whipped the sword out of her bag and tossed it over to Harry who began his descent to retrieve the Horcrux, battling through the mess.

While trying to avoid the falling items, Olivia fell back into a table full of shit and knocked it to the ground. She sobbed tearlessly as she watched it spring to life and engulf the bottom half of her legs.

"Stop moving!" Hermione called out to the group as they watched Harry climb over the clutter to the top.

Eventually Harry had disappeared underneath the mess. It piled up to Hermione, Ron and Olivia's waist and for a second everything was silent.

And just like that, the chaos started again.

"Got it!"

Harry dove out from under the clutter and back down towards the three who were keeping as still as possible. He held the sword in one hand and a small cup in the other above his head and they made a mad dash to the exit.

Harry fell on top of the growing pile, dropping the Horcrux amongst it all and Griphook snatched it up quickly.

"We had a deal Griphook!" Harry reminded, as the goblin stood unharmed.ย

"The cup for the sword."

Hermione yelped as everything continued to grow around them, reaching up to Olivia's shoulders. Harry threw the sword to Griphook, who in return threw the Horcrux. Hermione caught it as everything but Olivia's head had become stuck.

"I said I'd get you in." The goblin said, "I never said anything about getting you out."

"Griphook!" Olivia shouted as the goblin disappeared with Bogrod, "You lying little bastard!"

As he disappeared they fought their way out of the vault and onto the metal staircase leading down towards the dragon. Harry called his name as he passed, leaving Bogrod to wave at them.

"That foul little git." Ron said as they watched him disappear with the sword, "It's a good job we've still got Bogrod."

Just then, the Ukrainian Ironbelly rose before unleashing a gulf of fire in Bogrod's direction. Olivia watched with her mouth open as the dragon continued to breathe fire on the goblin. She couldn't believe their luck and groaned loudly, "Ron, you have a knack for jinxing us."

And as if their situation couldn't get any worse a series of spells was cast in their direction. The wizarding guards from the bank had found them. The four dived behind the stone walls for refuge as the spells hit the rock around them, diminishing it quickly.

Stood opposite Hermione, Olivia peaked to the side to steal a glance at their opponents, "Oh come on!" She yelled in frustration, firing blindly into the chasm.

"We can't just stand here!" Hermione yelled over the noise, "Have you got an idea?"

"Yeah!" Olivia yelled, "Kill the bastards and make a run for it."

"We can't do that!" Ron shouted across.

"What about you then? What's your idea?"

"It's not a brilliant one!"

"I've got one, but it's mad!" Hermione told them, breaking up Ron and Olivia's spat.

Olivia watched as Hermione fired at the metal bars before leaving the stone wall and running towards the chasm where the firing was coming from. She leaned to the side to see her jumping onto the back of the Ukrainian Ironbelly, holding on to one of its spikes.

"Well come on then!" She shouted to them, "Olivia you can fly dragons can't you?"

"What? No!" She cried incredulously, "Not one that big!"

The dragon unleashed a round of fire on to the vault floor as Olivia shook her head. She muttered soothing words under her breath before taking a second and running towards the dragon.

The time she spent airborne, jumping from the staircase to the dragon was almost nothing but Olivia just happened to jump at the wrong time. As a white light hit her square in the stomach she cried out in agony. She landed on the dragon on her back and started to slide down its side until Hermione caught her arm at the last minute.

Olivia swore in pain as she twisted herself onto her stomach and pulled herself up the side of the dragon with Hermione's help. The struggle to get Olivia in front of her was great, but it was even harder for Hermione to hold her there.

Ron and Harry jumped no later and soon, all four of them were on the dragons back.

"Ron!" Hermione yelled while struggling to keep ahold of Olivia, "Help me, I can't hold her!"ย

"What happened?" Harry shouted as Ron moved to support Olivia, who had quickly stopped moving, and Hermione released the dragon from the large chain holding it in place.

As the dragon flew up to the top of the vaults and back towards the bank Ron drew his hand back when he felt wet liquid coat his fingers. He pulled back to see his hand coated in red, blood from Olivia's stomach. In a panic he shouted to Hermione, "Hermione, she's bleeding!"

"When she jumped one of the guards casted a spell, it hit her stomach!"

As the dragon fought its way through the bank and up into the sky, they took to the air holding Olivia as tightly as possible who continued to groan in pain.

<=>

A short while later the dragon had taken them far away from London and into the country, flying across a large lake while starting to drop. When they realised that they would have to drop Hermione took to shaking Olivia.

She had been immobile since they had left Gringotts, her eyes had been closed and she hadn't uttered a single word. The only indication of her actually being alive was the sound of her heavy breathing.

"Olivia! C'mon Olivia, wake up!" Hermione shouted.

While her eyelids fluttered heavily she spoke, "What?"

"We have to jump!"

"Jump where?"

"Off the dragon." Ron said while sitting her up, "There's a lake below us."

"I can't swim." She groaned, her hand holding the bottom of her stomach.

"Ron!" Harry warned.

"Olivia we need to drop now. I'll help you, okay?"

Her eyes peeled open to look at Ron, "Promise?"

Ron nodded, "Promise."
