Chapter twenty two
Me, Rebekah and Elijah walk through the streets of the Quarter while they talk about recent events. "Now, you may doubt him, but today, I saw Niklaus demonstrate mercy towards an enemy. Tell me that's not progress." Elijah spoke to Rebekah as I just chuckled. " Please, Elijah. Who do you think convinced Klaus to let Thierry out?" I raised a brow "Why would you do such a thing?" I asked out of curiosity. " Because, despite Klaus' reprieve, Thierry despises him. I like that about Thierry. I also like that he used to date a witch, so he knows about French Quarter covens. Maybe he can lead me to whoever stole off with the Harvest magic." Elijah answered in reply "Rebekah, we are all devastated by the outcome of this ritual." That was true. We all were devasted by the outcome. But the main thing was there was no outcome.
"That's just it. There was no outcome. We know that power like that doesn't just vanish. I say someone stole it. I'd like to know who, and then I'd like to make an ally out of them" Rebekah answered with a revenge plan. "To what end, exactly?"
"I'm tired of being threatened and controlled by our tyrant brother. If you want to stop a bully, you need the power to stand up to them" Rebekah answered as I pouted.
"You know that Scar He is just... just"
"I know evil but I saw a spark of redemption. You both always told me that I was his path of redemption or that I'd be the one to redeem him and now I see hope. I know that he is trying his best to be a good father, good boyfriend and a good brother"
She nodded at my words as we continued walking.
"I expect such behaviour from Niklaus. It's so very disappointing when it comes from you, Rebekah. Do you not see that, in his way, he's making an effort here? He's invited us back into our family home. He yearns for our family to be reunited" Elijah answered in defence of Niklaus. "Yes. He's in a brilliant mood now, but for how long? It's his trick, Elijah. He lulls you into a false sense of camaraderie and kinship, and then he turns on you like a snake. I fall for it every time and wind up with a dagger in my chest for my trouble. No more" That was true what Rebekah said but I knew he was changing and would do anything for the baby at least. But the daggers were always the worst and I never agreed with daggering siblings.
"I believe that he is approaching some semblance of peace here. Leadership may be a good thing for him. Now, sister, please, I ask you, if you cannot support him, then at least do nothing to provoke him" Elijah answered. "Yes, Bex. I'm with you you know that and I never stan Dagger but right now he is quite in ruling state and someone crossing him will not be spared. If it is you or me" and with that we all went back.
Klaus entered the room at the same time as mine and we found Marcel, drinking alone as he sat on a couch. "I'm making drinking probated in this house 'cause it is sure I won't be able to drink for awhile" I stated as Klaus all annoyed said "Ugh, is this what it's come to? I bear the full weight of our kingdom while you pout like a child"
"You wanted to be king. Besides, you look like you got it covered" Marcel debated.
"If the men see you shirk your duties, they're likely to do the same" Klaus defended. He needed his friend by his side to rule and thrive. "I told you, I am not in the mood for vampire hijinks" Marcel all annoyed.
"No. You'd rather sit wallowing in sorrow for your lost little friend" I decided to interrupt. MARCEL stands up and points a finger at us "Don't push me right now" "I am sorry Davina is gone, okay? I'm sorry. But this mournful attitude is unworthy of you, and it's boring to me" Klaus said not wanting to listen to negative responses.
I pouted not expecting that this is what he'll say. Diego enters the room to join us, looking worried. "Hey, guys, we got a problem" The air got tensed. "Looks like it is time for me to exit!" I said as I slipped out as they left to clear the problem.
A minute later I got the order of my lockdown so I decided to accompany Hayley cause I didn't have anything else to do. "Hey Wolfie" she sat in Davina's room rummaging through her drawings. "Yeah. Morbid, I know. I was just thinking... we never figured out why she drew those pictures of Celeste. Anyway, I'm just killing time, now that I'm on vampire lockdown" I smiled at her as I sat beside her "Me too so let's kill time together."
"Whoever did this, we will deal with them. It won't be long." Elijah stood there as he spoke. There was going on between these too but I didn't have anyone to discuss it with yet so it's still rumbling inside me. " I'm not worried. Just think it's kind of funny that it took some big, supernatural threat for you to even come into the same room as me" Ouch that's bitter. "I do apologize if you feel neglected. I have been occupied. My siblings are in some quarrel. Niklaus remains agitated" I pouted as Hayley spoke up "So Klaus is a dick, and you want to be a good big brother. So we can't hang out. That sums it up. I get it, Elijah. It just seems like a crappy deal."
We were in the courtyard. Hayley watches as Elijah tries to call Rebekah. "She is not answering" Elijah stated as Hayley said "You worried about whoever killed those daywalkers still being out there?" Stating the facts Elijah said "Frankly, I'm worried that she had something to do with this. She's very displeased with Niklaus, perhaps even conspiring with others" But I thought otherwise "She won't kill vampires just to get back at Nik. I guess" I was dicey at my own words because Rebekah and Niklaus are very similar. Stubborn.
We saw Thierry drinking alone at a table and Elijah joined him. "Thierry, is it?" Elijah asked as if he didn't know and Thierry replied affirmatively. I spoke up "My blond is rather fond of you. Strange, she's not typically drawn to unremarkable men. Would you care to explain your sudden magnetism?" Thierry was getting scared I could see on his face " I don't know what you're-" Elijah, annoyed, cuts him off by grabbing him by the throat and pushing him against the wall.
"You can either tell me what you know, or I can distribute tiny pieces of you throughout the Quarter" Elijah threatened as he spoke up "She asked me to keep an eye out on witch stuff. I found something, and when I showed her, we were jumped by some guy. He desiccated her with his touch" We all were very annoyed with him "Like a coward, you left her" I angrily said. " What was I supposed to do, fight some warlock that took out an Original?" Me and Elijah exchanged looks "Where was this, exactly?" Elijah asked. "The docks, warehouse 57. I was just doing what she asked. You cannot tell Klaus about this" I nodded as Elijah waited a moment before snapping his neck and allowing his body to drop to the floor.
"I shall take that into consideration," Elijah said all ready to leave as I was about to speak Hayley all worried spoke up "I'm coming with you" "No. Stay here. The compound is safe" Elijah said "Yes Wolfie compound is safe stay here as we figure it out" I said as I was ready to leave with Elijah. "You are staying here too. Niklaus will kill me if something happens to you" Elijah said making me pout. "Rebekah is in trouble. we are going" Hayley said on behalf of both of us. Elijah pauses for a moment and sighs "Do not leave my sight. Understand?" we nodded as we three left.
We arrived where Rebekah's body was left and immediately ran toward her. Elijah is also on the phone with Sophie, who is still with the other bodies. "Rebekah" I shouted hoping she would hear and get up. Elijah and I kneeled next to her, but couldn't cross the barrier made by the salt. "What's happening" Hayley all worried asked. "A boundary spell. Someone is channelling her. Typically, it's a lethal process, but because she's an Original, she can't die. Instead, she's an endless source of power and that's deadly for everyone who can die" I said trying to stay in control. "So what are we supposed to do?" Hayley asked as Sophie from the phone replied, "You have to get her out of there."
A panicked Elijah is still on the phone with Sophie and is trying to figure out how to break the magical boundary. "You're not listening. We cannot enter the circle. There's some kind of confinement spell... If I can't remove her, we can't break the link" Sophie replied "It's a convoluted spell" and I completed the rest. "It's like a witch's recipe. You can spoil the balance by adding a more potent ingredient. A mystical binding agent. I don't know, volcanic ash, rock salt... anything up to ruin the balance" Elijah spoke up understanding what Im saying.
"What about the blood of a witch?" As he looked at me. "I need a favour" I immediately understood what he was asking me for and being a witch was not what he was asking "The baby. She's a quarter witch." I bit into my wrist to draw blood. I walked towards the magic circle. Elijah holds out my wrist and lets the blood fall on the magic boundary line. It starts to fizzle and deteriorate. Elijah can get through, and he quickly picks up Rebekah and takes her out of the circle. I reached for Hayley's hand and then vamp-speeded us out of there with Elijah and Rebekah in tow.
