"Emily!" I jolted up sweating heavenly and with an uneven breathing as I recall last night's events to calm myself down as I looked around and realised that i'm at this institute and not at my home

"Morning Veronica," Isabelle's voice reached my ears as she entered the room and rushed to my side seeing me hyperventilate

"My sister....Emily," I said as she got me a glass a water while I settled my breathing in the meantime

"Jace! Al-"

"Isabelle don't. I need some privacy right now," I cutt off Isabelle before she could call anyone as she nods taking her place beside me

"You're safe here and we'll help you out with whatever it is," she said as I nodded in response taking slow sips of the water

"Thank you," Recovering my breath I respond as she passes me a few outfits to change into after dressing the wound as Clary entered the room without notice

"Hi guys," she chimed in as I almost dropped the glass in my hand, she was also carrying some outfits for me to try just in case Isabelle's don't fit me

"Go on and try," Clary psuhes me towards the bathroom as I get in for a quick shower covering the wound and try both of their outfits

"I think I'll go with Isabelle's they fit me quite good, just a bit tight," I say walking out the bathroom with wet dripping hair and my shoulder covered by the towel

"Izzy likes to keep her body free, you could say that," Clary says as I take a good look at myself in the mirror and spot a rune on my arm

VERONICA'S OUTFIT

"Why is this on my arm?" I questioned while touching it to see if it hurts or not

"I drew this when you were unconscious, it's a healing rune," Isabelle stated

"You drew what on my body?"

"Every shadowhunter has this," Isabelle stated as I saw the runes on her chest and collarbone  as well as Clary

"So last night what you're friend Jace said about you guys is true that you all are Shadow-hunters and all this supernatural crap is real?" I asked as we all settled on my bed

"Yeah it's all true Veronica, it's just not everyone knows about this. Though you don't have worry we're here to help and protect you" Isabelle said explaining me the basics of their world and I told them myself

"Isabelle," We heard a sudden voice at the door followed by a knock as Isabelle opened the door and the person standing there something which I couldn't catch but it seemed important seeing how the whole institute was in utter caos right now

"Guess our parents came back, just as they got the news," Isabelle said as she looked in my direction

"Come on, it's time for you to meet my parents and the head of the New York Institute,"

"By the tone I can guess they're not a fan of me," I say as Isabelle and Clary chuckled at my statement as we walked out of my room

We entered the main lobby which had tons and tons of screens installed on every corner that were capturing city's every move, just like we have back at our agency

As we crossed the lobby and entered into what seemed like a hallway and came to a stop in front of the last room on the floor as Isabelle prepped me for the meeting, taking a deep breath I enter the room

"Welcome, I'm Robert Lightwood" a man with a little dusky complexion and walked in my direction and greeted me, then taking back his place

"I am Maryse Lightwood we're the founder of this Institute" A women sitting across from the man introduced herself holding her hand out which I gently shock

"I am Veronica...Veronica Denver, pleased to meet you Robert and Maryse," I replied as they pointed over at the three of us to sit as I took the seat next to Isabelle as my eyes wandered around the room only to stop at the guy who shot me. Alec was his name if I remember it correctly

As our gazes locked on each other we starred at each other for a few seconds before turning to the people I just met sitting in front of me

"Let's get to the point without further adieu, there are a few questions that we would like to ask you Ms. Veronica," Robert said observing me as I nooded in response to the question as a yes

"However before that we would like to apologise on behalf our son's reckless action that caused you this injury," Robert apologised on behalf of Alec

"I appreciate your generosity, sir and ma'am. Thank you for the concern," I reply as I look out from the corner of my eyes to find Alec with his head down

"I'm sure Isabelle and Jace must have helped you gone through the basics of our world and how it's possible for you to see us?" Maryse asked

"They did, I'm not that comfortable about all this but I understand," I replied as they both nod in response

"We're thinking you don't know how that is possible and why have we called you here right?" Robert asked as I nodded in response "Ms. Denvers there is something that you should know about yourself,"

"What are you talking about? What should I know?" I asked as Robert passed two pictures in my direction and I didn't expect the mess I was about to be thrown in would be this deep

The pictures were of my parents, I don't know how did they get their hold on my parents pictures but there was something really wrong going on here and I could sense it

"I'm sure, by now you must have recognised these pictures well," Maryse comments as I nod in response

"they're my parents but why exactly do you have their pictures and how're they related to all this?"

"Ms. Denvers, it's all because of parents that you're here right now in safe hands," Robert claimed as I was still confused

"Your mother and father aren't human as they seem to you. They're both supernatural beings, Your Mother is a Well known Witch in the downworld and your Father he's a shadow hunter as well," Robert explains me the situation as it felt like the floor beneath my feet began to shift

"Which makes you, Young Lady a pure blood Witch and Shadow hunter," he says as I and everyone else sitting in this room with me sat there in shock

My mind was racing back and forth as I was unable to hear the commotion that began in the room with everyone speaking over and asking questions as my hands started sweating heavenly and my gaze was fixated on the bracelet I was wearing that Mom gave me as a gift

"Ms. Denvers? Veronica? Veronica?" I was in a state of shock where the voices around me were not reaching me as I sat there in disbelief as I felt someone's touch and turned around in haste to see Robert standing beside me with his hand on my shoulder as if he's trying to comfort me

"It's okay, we can understand the chaos going on inside of you," he says patting my shoulder as I lower my gaze trying to hide my tears eyes  as he offered me a glass of water

"Thank you Sir," I reply taking the glass from him and settling down in my seat

"Call me Robert, Ms. Denvers," he says as I nod in response "take your time, we're in no hurry here,"

"Except few important and urgent things to take care of," Maryse interrupted Robert's comment as I pulled myself together

"I'm sorry, I wouldn't want to keep you waiting, please continue I'm fine," I say gulping the last portion of water left in the glass along with my fear for now as Robert took his place

"As for how we know your parents, your mother has helped us on many of our missions earlier before having your sister," Maryse explained as my gaze shoot up in her direction upon the mention of Emily as I knew how much I was hurting on the inside knowing the fact that I lost her last night

"Your father too has helped us a lot on quite by carrying numerous covert missions for us in the past, but he's unfortunately gone rogue for now," Robert completed as my gaze fell to the floor nodding in response to all the information

"We know this is a lot to process in the first meeting but we want you to know why you're the way you are, and why're you here," he continued

"Thank you Mr & Mrs. Lightwood, I appreciate your for helping me known about this world and my identity, but-" I say taking a deep breath as I mask my emotions

"I'm feeling quite dizzy due to my injury, if you'll excuse me I need some rest," I say smiling as I got up from my seat paying my respects to them and headed over to the door

"You can't leave the institute, and this meeting without their permission," Just as I was about to reach for the door Alec interrupted blocking my path mid-way

"Look I appreciate all of yours efforts but I really need some rest. I won't leave this place I promise," I say as I look up to match his gaze as his expression soften as he saw my teary eyes

"Let her go Alec, she needs rest for now," Maryse ordered as Alec slowly stepped aside

"Thank you Ma'am," I said turning around to her as she nodded and left the meeting room to find my room

Upon reaching my room I slowly closed the door behind me and sank to the floor bringing my knees to my chest as I sobbed quietly in this big room

"I never knew what betrayal looked like until you showed me how it feels to be betrayed Mom!" I mumbled the things I was feeling in the moment. I couldn't believe Mom hid such a big thing from me, we shared everything I would have understood if she had told this to me herself

While back in the room everyone was discussing the consequences of having another new member in the institute who doesn't know anything about this world and how Veronica's a pure blood and one of her kind that you don't get to see often

While all this was happening, Alec's mind kept wandering back to the look he saw in Veronica's eyes, it was like as if she was betrayed and lied to which was the case eventually
