niola begins walking to the parking lot, sliding her phone in her pocket as she walks through the halls toward the doors leading outside. almost as soon as she's out of the school, she feels someone grab her wrist. before she can even react, she's dragged into a nearby alleyway between two buildings.

she opens her mouth, but the person who dragged her out here covers it before she can say anything.

"you're much prettier when you're quiet." the person says. niola blinks at the person, staring up at them in shock. then she recognizes the person as zade. when their eyes meet, he smiles. he runs his hand down her side, gently rubbing her skin.

niola is in too much shock to do anything. this all happened so fast. suddenly, zade grabs onto the hem of her shirt and begins to tug the material upward. this is where niola draws the line. she slaps his hand off her her and punches him in the nose.

still, zade doesn't back off. he wipes his now bloody nose as he smiles at her. "damn. kitty's got some claws, huh? that's fine, though, because i like my women fierce."

niola visibly cringes at his idea of flirting before she says, "quit fucking bothering me, zade. i've already told you countless times to leave me the hell alone."

"and why should i?" zade asks her, tilting his head to the side. "you're single and defenseless."

"my boyfriend wouldn't agree." niola responds without thinking.

just as she's about to take back what she said, she notices the look of shock on zade's face. she's never been able to surprise him. all this time, no matter what she did, he would always find a way back to her. he would ignore whatever lines she drew. but now he's finally shocked. he actually wasn't expecting her to say that.

"let me guess." zade finally says, straightening his back and glaring down at niola. "matthew." she opens her mouth to speak — to refuse that she is dating matt. but he cuts her off. "don't even try to deny it. i see the way he looks at you."

"if you can tell that we're dating, why do you still follow me around like a fucking creep?" she bites back.

"i thought i had a chance." he admits softly. "i guess not."

"even if you ever did have a chance, stalking me ruined all of them within a heartbeat." she tells him, crossing her arms. "it's a huge red flag, by the way."

"okay." zade puts his arms up in surrender. "i'm done. i'll leave you alone."

with that, zade turns on his heel and walks in the opposite direction — away from niola. for the first time, he has agreed to leave her alone without her having to put up much of a fight or having to cause a scene.

it's funny, really, how men like zade will respoect other men without hesitation. but not a woman when she screams at him repeatedly to leave her alone. after years of niola yelling at him and ignoring him, she's gotten him to leave her with a few simple words.
