Chapter 10
The next day Victoria went out to find Fulton, to hang out with him. She walked into the popular alley where Fulton was practicing his slap shots with an old worn-out trunk as the goal.
"Hey, Reed." She ran up to him.
"Hey, Reed!" He smiled and turned his stick around so it was upside down.
"Slap shot practice?"
"Ya, still working on it though-" He rubbed the back of his neck with his free hand before she cut him off.
"Working on it?"
"Ya, 1 out of 5 the puck goes into the goal."
"Very scientific." She chuckled and walked over behind Fulton who shot the puck, it hit the window of a passing by van.
"Holy crap." Her mouth dropped, then the van tires could be heard screeching as the van backed up and Coach Bombay jumped out.
Fulton's eyes went wide as he dropped his hockey stick and ran off, "Coach!" Bombay looked at Victoria while he ran after Fulton.
"It's ok Vic!" He smiled and continued to chase after Fulton.
Fulton tried to hop on some trash cans and over a fence to escape but Coach Bombay pulled him down.
"Look it was an accident ok!" He yelled.
"Never mind the window, where did you learn to shoot like that?" Bombay asked Fulton.
"I didn't learn, I just do it!" He rolled his eyes.
"Well," Bombay started. "Can you do it again?"
Fulton pushed past Bombay and over to pick up his stick and grabbed another street puck, "What are you doing here Vic?"
"Visitin' my brother from anotha' motha'." She smiled.
Bombay crossed his arms over his chest, "Is that an exaggeration?"
"No?" She raised her brow. Fulton lined the street puck up with the makeshift suitcase before looking at Bombay who nodded at him.
Fulton then looked over at Victoria who smiled, when Fulton looked back at the goal, he slapped the puck into the other van window, "Fulton, is it true what they say? About the scholarships and schools?"
"People talk, don't mean nothin'." Fulton shrugged.
"Well, why don't you play for us?" Bombay looked at Victoria, then back at Fulton.
"I can't." He sighed.
"You can't or you won't?" Bombay asked Fulton who put another street puck in front of him.
"No, I can't you moron, because I can't skate!" Fulton snapped at Bombay and made the puck go flying into the case, sending it flying backward and closing the lid.
"Wow." Bombay's mouth was left agape.
"I know right?" Victoria smiled and walked over to Fulton, giving him a side hug, blushing a bit.
"We should have a practice today," Coach looked over at me. "What do you think Coach?"
"Oh, ya, and I have just the perfect practice for Fulton," She smirked at Fulton. "Come on, you'll love it!" She grabbed his hand and dragged him towards the van with Bombay following behind.
Bombay sat in the front with the driver and Fulton and Vic in the back.
"Hey dude, sorry about the windows," Fulton said to the driver.
"It's alright kid." He nodded in the rearview mirror.
They drove around and picked everyone up to take them to the mall when the driver dropped everyone off, Victoria stayed in the van.
"Hey, Coach? What's wrong?" Bombay threw his arms in the air with everyone looking at her.
"I'm gonna stay in here. I'll meet you guys on the other side." She smirked before closing the van door and the driver drove away. The team then went into a sporting store to buy rollerblades and helmets, then they skated through the mall.
"Yes, Fulton! Pump your arms!" Coach Bombay skated next to a fully protected Fulton who didn't know how to turn so he fell down the stairs. Fulton almost killed himself falling down the stairs.
Fulton also accidentally knocked an old lady in a decorative fountain trying to regroup with the others. When he did, they all laughed and ripped through the mall on their rollerblades.
Going through the food court, Goldberg stole some dudes churro in the food court, who seemed pretty pissed off at him.
When the team got back to the van, Fulton didn't know how to stop either so Vic opened the door for Fulton's impact. He went headfirst into the van with his feet dangling out.
Victoria laughed as she looked down at him, he looked up at her with his chin to the seat, hanging on for dear life, "Hey Reed, whatcha doin'?"
"Hangin' on for dear life." He chuckled and got up.
"Nice one Fulton." Jesse patted him on the back sarcastically.
"Ya, real smooth," Terry added. Everyone got they're skates and pads off before getting into the van.
On the way back home, they all stopped to get hot cocoa in a park near the mall. Connie and Guy decided to join Victoria, Charlie, and Fulton at a picnic table while the other kids on the team sat and mingled with each other at nearby tables. Connie and Guy were holding hands on the table while drinking the cocoa and Charlie sitting next to Connie on one side, with Fulton and Victoria on the other.
Guy cracked a funny joke about a door, as they all laughed. Victoria had her one hand near her thigh almost touching the picnic table. Fulton slowly moved his hand over to hers and interlaced his fingers with hers. Victoria looked down in embarrassment as she sipped her cocoa with her hand interlaced with Fulton's overly large protective hands.
The table was silent for a moment before Fulton broke the silence, "Hey, we're gonna go for a walk." Fulton stood up with his hot cocoa from the picnic table.
"Ok." Charlie nodded. Victoria then sat her cocoa down on the picnic table while getting up, then when she stood up she held it in her right hand. Fulton and Victoria walked shoulder to shoulder into the park, sipping the hot cocoa in the styrofoam cups.
"I'm betting on Vic asking Fulton on a date," Connie said without taking her eyes off the two.
"I'm betting on they'll kiss," Guy said turning to his girlfriend and kissing her cheek.
"I'll ask her about it later." Charlie nodded before sipping the sweet liquid.
Victoria and Fulton were walking down a pathway in the park, sipping the cocoa and holding hands, "I've never felt this flustered or worked up before." Vic nervously laughed.
Fulton chuckled at Victoria's comment, "Me neither."
"I did enjoy the under the bench hand holding trick, cheesy, but cute." Vic laughed as her heart raced.
"I just thought I'd express my feelings towards you," Fulton sipped the cocoa. "What were your first thoughts of me, Vic?" He turned to Victoria, who then turned to look up at him.
"I told you before, you were very brave and protective, but I also realized you were a mysterious person and a gentle giant," Vic smiled, her cheeks heated up at expressing her feelings, Fulton smiled and took another sip. "What about me?"
"Well," Fulton smiled while exhaling. "You seemed really scared by me yelling at you when we met in the alley. I remember you grabbing my arm, I felt the warmth and timidness from that touch. I also thought you were cute," Fulton chuckled nervously. "But our height comparison."
"I mean, you're literally a whole foot taller than me!" Vic laughed.
"Well, Durr!" He chuckled. "But it's so cute though."
Victoria then stopped and stood in front of him, still holding his hand, "Ya, know," Vic looked down in embarrassment, biting her lip. "I like tall guys. Makes me feel protected." She smiled, then finished the last sip of her cocoa.
"Well you're in luck Reed," Fulton smirked. "I like short girls."
"Oh really?" Vic playfully teased.
Fulton grinned like the Cheshire Cat, "Yeah, so I can do this!" Fulton bent down and swept Vic off her feel while she squeaked and wrapped her arms around his neck lightly.
Fulton carried Vic bridal style, "Jeez, you're lighter than I expected."
"Well, I am only 150 pounds." Vic shrugged.
Fulton carried Vic the whole way back down the way they came, about halfway back Victoria decided to be bold and plant a kiss on Fulton's cheek, it surprised him, "Surprised?" Victoria tilted her head and watched Fulton's face turn beat red.
"Very." He smiled and returned the gesture.
Before returning to the group, Fulton gently sat Victoria on her feet. When they arrived back, Coach Bombay came up to them.
"There you guys are! We've been looking for you."
"Oh, sorry Coach. Reed's gotta have our heart to hearts." Victoria shrugged.
"It's alright Coach." Coach Bombay smirked and walked away.
When Victoria looked over at Charlie, Connie, and Guy, Connie was doing mini claps and threw Victoria a wink, she obviously knew what was happening.
When Victoria looked over at Charlie, his face was stern but also sympathetic. Vic thought deep down inside that Charlie knew what was going on and she hoped and prayed he wouldn't go mother hen on her.Β
