Chapter 14

3rd POV...

After the game, when everyone showered, had dinner, and went to bed, Victoria was tossing and turning in her bed, trying to fall asleep. She couldn't stop thinking about Stansson and Marria watching their game against Germany.

Victoria shot up from her bed, not being able to sleep anymore, letting a huff escape her lips. She got up and put on some light wash mom jeans with a white t-shirt that was tucked into her jeans. A pastel pink windbreaker over her white shirt and her special white Hendrix Lacoste sneakers.

Vicki ruffed her hair before grabbing her white Coach wallet with the golden apples on it to match her purse, with her dorm key inside. Quietly climbing on her bed, she unlocked the window and poked her head out to find a way down. To her right was a thin drain pipe and to her left was a giant tree near her window, which some of the branches and leaves extended and covered part of her window. Vicki decided to climb out on to the tree cautiously, making sure she doesn't wake anyone up and most importantly that she didn't fall and break any bones since the drop-down was pretty far and her window was on the second story. Securing herself to the branch, she turned around and slightly closed the window before going down the tree carefully not to ruin her perfect white shoes.

Her shoes made a light flop on the grass when landing on the ground, she then let out a huff of relief and ruffled her hair once again before walking off.

Vicki wasn't the only one who couldn't sleep. The long brunett haired boy was sitting, curled up next to his window on his bottom bunk bed. He stared at the moon trying to help him think of a way to ask out the girl he admired. His mind was blank. His bunk buddy, Amselik (Aaam-see-lee-K), was lightly snoring while his leg half dangled down. The brunett quietly got up and started quietly rummaging around one of his suitcases, which laid on the floor near Olaf Sanderson's bed. He got the biggest bed since he was the biggest player. Olaf was stirring in his sleep, having a dream, he was mumbling to himself.

The brunett pulled out a pair of dark jeans and a dark navy form-fitting shirt and a pair of socks. Standing, looking around the room to see if any of his team members were awake, he took off his Team Iceland t-shirt revealing a toned body. Lightly tanned flat chest, and arm muscles. His arm muscles slightly flexed while he slipped on the shirt.

After he changed, he grabbed his wallet and shoved it in his back pocket with his dorm key inside before he crept to his window and unlocked it slowly before hopping out, landing on the grass outside his window before closing the window slightly and walking away.

The brunett walked the slightly busy sidewalks of Los Angeles, passing happy young couples, envying their happiness with his special girl, "Vicki!" He slightly blurted out, practicing on what to say, he coughed slightly and cleared his throat, "Vicki," He said in a calmer cooler voice, his thick Icelandic accent coming through his English. "Will you go out with me?" He stuck his hand out in front of him slightly while walking down the sidewalk. He sighed and shook his head, giving up, he fixed some strands of hair that were in his face off to the sides before shoving his hands in his pockets, continuing down the sidewalk.

Vicki strolled down the sidewalk, looking at the lights, the people, the shops, and restaurants. Stopping on occasion to pet some cute dogs before going back to walking down the sidewalk.

While walking, she noticed someone familiar. Gunnar Stahl walking towards her, looking slightly at the ground while mumbling to himself, waving his hands in the air. He let out a loud sigh and looked up rolling his eyes. Vicki wanted to say something to him but she remembered what their last encounter was like. Gunnar continued to walk towards Vicki, not noticing her, then he realized she was staring at him as they continued to walk towards each other.

The two locked eyes and a small smile wiped his face before the two met in the middle, "Hey."

"Hi." Vicki returned the small smile before biting her lip slightly.

"So what are you doing out past curfew?" His lips let out a half chuckle.

"I was just gonna ask you the same," She cocked her head slightly before rolling on her feet back and forth. "I couldn't sleep."

"Ja," Gunnar nodded. "Same here."

There was an airy silence between the two, the two took an inhale to speak but they were cut off by each other, "I'm sorry, you go."

"Nei, you go first. Mines less important." Gunnar insisted.

"Ok, well, I wanted to apologize for slapping you-" Vicki bit her lower lip, not making eye contact.

"I deserved it though." Gunnar cut Victoria off.

"I was just angry and stressed. Too many things were going on in my mind and I didn't mean to snap at you either." Vicki then looked at Gunnar who was admiring her outfit.

"I understand, getting barked orders at your coach isn't very nice, besides, coaching looks worse."

"Coach Bombay was getting wrapped up into the whole glamorous LA lifestyle that he forgot who he was and he was throwing all his stress and anger on the team but mainly me." Vicki shook her head, shoving her hands in her pastel windbreaker pockets.

"It's alright," Gunnar placed a sympathetic hand on her shoulder, rubbing it with his thumb. Vicki smiled, looking up at his tall figure. "How about we go get some ice cream?"

Vicki's face then lit up, "Ya, that sounds nice." She nodded her head rapidly before the two walked down the sidewalk together, shoulder to shoulder, chatting.

Gunnar took Vicki to the same ice cream shop that Marria and Coach Bombay went to, except they didn't know it. The shop was packed with people inside and outside sitting at tables. Vicki ordered two scoops of peanut butter chocolate avalanche in a waffle cone while Gunnar got two scoops of Mackinac chocolate fudge in a waffle cone. The cashier worker said the total and Vicki went to pull out some money to pay for her ice cream but Gunnar stopped her and insisted that he paid for her. The two grabbed a few napkins and walked out of the shop.

Vicki thanked Gunnar for his kind gesture of paying for her cone while digging into her ice cream, "I've never had Mackinac chocolate fudge ice cream before."

Vicki gasped, leaving her mouth agape, staring at him with wide eyes, "I'm offended!" She playfully teased. "That's coming from a Michigander who loves Mackinac chocolate fudge and ice cream."

"Is it good?" He raised his brow, a smile playing on his face.

"Uh, hell ya." Vicki nodded her head before licking her ice cream.

Gunnar nodded his head and took a lick of the vanilla-colored ice cream, he slightly moaned in happiness, rolling his eyes at the delicious treat, "This is really good!"

"See! I told you!" She elbowed him in the arm. "You wouldn't mind if I had a bite? Would ya?" The two paused in the middle of the sidewalk.

"Not at all," Gunnar held out his cone slightly for Vicki to slightly lift her head and took a few licks of the ice cream, also letting out a happy moan from the delicious fudge flavored ice cream. Gunnar laughed at how Vicki moaned at the ice cream before licking her lips. "Can I have some? I haven't had peanut butter avalanche either." He gestured to Vicki's cone with his head.

"What?! What kind of ice cream do ya have back in Iceland for Christ sakes?" She scoffed playfully.

"Basic flavors, vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, twist, blue moon, pecan, coconut, and a few others I can't remember." He named off.

"Blue moon, coconut, and pecan are not basic flavors!" She teased, grinning widely before holding out her cone to him. Gunnar tilted his head to one side and got some of the ice cream, some almost fell off Vicki's cone which made her laugh, "Gunnar! Your gonna make a mess!" Gunnar broke away, licking his lips, laughing before they continued walking.

"Well, that was absolutely amazing." His thick accent popped out.

"You've been living under an ice cream rock, Gunnar. I'll have to have some words with the ice cream shop back in your hometown." She teased before going back to eating her ice cream.

"Ja, please do!" He chuckled.

The two eventually finished their cones while walking. Gunnar decided to walk Vicki back to her dorm since it was dark out and it wouldn't be safe for her to walk alone. Their shoes tapped on the pavement path leading up to the Team USA dorms, "Again, thank you for the ice cream and for walking me home." Vicki stared at the ground, twirling a piece of her hair around her finger, biting her lip.

"Anything for a special girl like you." Vicki looks up to meet Gunnar's gaze. He was staring at her.

Vicki led Gunnar to the tree where she got out of her room and stopped, "Well this is me." She pointed behind her to the tree.

"Ja, well um, have a good sleep." Gunnar stuttered.

"Thanks, you too Gunnar." Vicki started to climb up the tree when Gunnar stopped her, calling out her name.

"Ya?" She looked down at Gunnar, climbing down the tree and going up to him.

"I was wondering if you wanted to go on a date with me sometime?" His accent made his English sound more attractive.

A wide-eyed grin pained Vicki's face, "That would be wonderful, Gunnar." She then bit her lip again, nodding her head.

"I'll let you pick any time, anywhere you want to go, just let me know and I'll be there." He inched closer to Vicki, slightly backing her to the tree.

"Awe, thanks Gunnar," She fixed a few strands of his long brown hair from his face. His hazel eyes stared down at her in lust but also happiness. What Gunnar didn't expect was Vicki to give him an extended kiss on the cheek. Her leg popped up in the air as she stood in her tippy-toe to reach his cheek. "Night Gunnar." She said softly, looking up at his slightly shocked face.

"Night Vicki."

Victoria then climbed back up the tree, carefully opened the window, and climbed inside before poking her head out and blowing him a kiss. Gunnar smirked, grabbing the kiss she blew and pressed it to his heart before she closed the window and Gunnar ran off to his room in excitement and victory of asking out his special girl.

Back to Victoria's POV...

The next morning, the weekend was finally here. We never had games or lessons on weekends, thank God. My voice was also back to normal. Coach Bombay and Miss McKay had let us sleep in for a little bit before we all gathered in the front of the building, outside.

Jan was waiting for us to come out. Right as I saw him, I pushed through the team and gave him a giant hug, "You're here!" I smiled while his chest vibrated from his deep chuckles.

"Yes, yes, I had to set your Coach straight." When we broke apart, Charlie gave Jan a hug too.

Jan had brought the cardboard cutout of Coach from the locker room with him. The team all sat down on picnic tables near the entrance. I sat in front of Charlie in between his legs while Adam was next to me and Averman was sitting above and behind Adam, "I've had a lot of big distractions since I've been here in L.A.," Coach started with Miss McKay off to the side with Jan who handed him his cardboard cutout. "This is a distraction.

We all laughed and teased the cutout, "Nice haircut, Coach." Averman joked

"Looks familiar, I think I know that guy." I elbowed Adam playfully while the four of us laughed.

He folded and shoved the cutout in the barrel then pulled out matches from his pants pocket and lit a fire on an old rusty barrel next to him, "This is a fire in a barrel," "This is a distraction in a fire in a barrel. Any questions?" He pointed to the cutout which was melting.

Everyone applauded Coach for his action, "Good job, Coach!" Connie smiled widely while sitting next to Fulton.

"All right!" I jumped up from my seat whistling and applauding Coach Bombay.

Miss McKay then walked over to Coach who was digging around in his pocket for something when he pulled out the duck call, giving it to Miss McKay. She smiled and took the call from Coach, holding it in her hand, "Thank you." She said softly looking between the duck call and Coach all while smiling.

Coach grinned, clapping his hands together, getting our attention, "Now let's have some fun and hit the beach!"

We all screamed and ran inside to our rooms to get our bathing suits on. The three of us girls rummaged through our suitcases to find our bathing suits. Connie and Julie didn't see my bathing suit until I pulled it out from my case.

"Ooooh, fancy, fancy." Connie playfully winked.

"Oh shut up!" I threw a hand at her before rushing into the bathroom to change, put my hair into braids, and to apply waterproof mascara. Then I swapped with Connie who slammed the door closed.

I grabbed my floppy black sun hat that was hanging on the post of my bed before shoving it on my head. When Connie came out, she had her hair in a high ponytail with a multi-colored bikini top and shorts. Julie also ran inside the bathroom to change.

Rummaging around one of my suitcases, I found my dingy green jacket with duck yellow stripes and the zipper only went a quarter of the way down. The band down at the bottom scrunched up and moved with my body so if I moved my arms up, my stomach would show and I threw on some light wash jean shorts. To finish off my ensemble, I had brought my new pair of black Birkenstock's that my mom had bought me for my birthday and my sunglasses. When the three of us were ready, we all left together, arm, and arm. Our bags on our shoulders full of snacks, sunscreen, towels, books, music devices, etc.

Apparently, we were the last to join everyone down at the front of the dorms because everyone was staring at us when we walked out. Miss McKay and Jan were the only people who weren't "beach ready". Jules asked why they weren't in beach clothes, and they said that they had more important things to take care of.

The team all then left for the beach, cramming on to a city bus to take us to Venice Beach. I was a bit disappointed that we weren't going to the Santa Monica beach but it is what it is.

When we got off the bus, things were weird. Everyone was basically in bathing suits, yes I understood that it was a beach but it seemed like to me that everyone in California spent their time half-naked in swimsuits. People were enjoying the beach, skateboarding or skating, riding bikes, surfing, or playing soccer or volleyball.

We all trudged through the sand on the beach to find that perfect spot that was not too far from a pier. Connie, Jules, and I automatically laid out our blankets and sat our stuff down. Charlie, Guy, Ken, and Luis all got out a frisbee and decided to play some catch. I dropped my bag gently on my blanket before taking off my hat, reaching to my sides, slipping off the jacket, then I unbuttoned the jean shorts, sliding them down my legs before folding them and bending over to set them on my blanket before putting on my hat again. When I looked back up, Jules and Connie were laying on their backs while all the boys stood a few feet away staring at me with either their mouths hanging open with their tongues rolling out or them biting their lips violently.

"What?" I shook my head slightly, giving them wide eyes, pulling my sunglasses down the bridge of my nose slightly to get a better look at them.

"Nothing! Nothing!" They all blurted out, then going to lay on their blankets or to go swim.

Back To 3rd POV...

After the boys all closed they're mouthed and went their separate ways, Averman, Dwayne, Jesse, Adam, Fulton, Dean, Goldberg were all still checking out Victoria, even Adam was closely examining every detail. Victoria had laid down on her stomach, put her headphone in, and started to read a magazine next to Julie and Connie. Coach Bombay had gone to walk around and take in the sights and the women.

Dean clicked his tongue, "She really is a babe." He shook his head before Adam scoffed. Dean was wearing his signature bandanna and black swim shorts, showing off all his muscles and well-sculpted body.

Adam rolled his eyes, "I said don't call her that." He said lowly, half growling at the end of his sentence.

Dean was going to say something, when Jesse cut him off, "Let's not go through the same argument we went through yesterday." He suggested, looking between Adam and Dean before going back to look at Victoria.

Adam was wearing dark navy camo Ralph Lauren swim shorts. Adam was slightly pale since he didn't really have much time to tan because he was always practicing and training but he did have some muscles on his arms and a defined body with a flat chest. Jesse wore black swim shorts and he was more on the lean side of the body spectrum.

"Speaking of Vicki," Fulton started, turning to Adam. "What is it with ya and my sister?"

"Nothing is up with me and Vicki." He said, clearly in denial.

"Mmhmm." The boys all rolled their eyes and nodded at each other.

"You're in denial Cake-Eater!" Jesse laughed.

"No, I am not!" He said in a stern voice, crossing his arms over his chest before going back to checking out Victoria.

"Then explain all the little looks you two give each other than you two snap your heads away." Averman pushed up his glasses on his face, his freckles popping out from the sun.

"And all the little smiles you two give each other," Dwayne added.

"And how she bites her lip whenever you smile or make a joke or fix your hair!" Goldberg pointed at Adam.

"Guys! Seriously!" He started, exchanging looks with each of them. "We're just friends. Best friends. Best friends with benefits." Adam then rolled his eyes down from Victoria's hair all the way down to her butt.

"See! Here we go again!" Dean threw his arms up in the air in frustration.

"Denial!" They all said in unison.

"Dude, you seriously think you two are "just friends"?" Jesse smirked. "She basically threw herself at you during our game against Iceland! It's like Minnesota all over again!" Jesse chuckled, making Dean and Dwayne confused.

"What happened back in Minnesota?" Dwayne looked between Adam and Jesse for clarity.

"It's was the game to determine the State PeeWee Championship. We were facing the Hawks, our enemy team which is where Cake-Eater here came from," Jesse shook his shoulder slightly. Adam still kept his eyes glued to Victoria. "Cake-Eater was racing for the goal when a dude shoved him from behind, sending him sailing into the goalpost, flat on his face."

"The puck went in of course." Averman interrupted.

"Ya, he was knocked out from the fall, we all cheered except Vicki. She knew he was hurt before anyone in the rink did. She hopped over that wall faster than I'd ever seen and ran over to him." Goldberg continued the story, looking between Dean and Dwayne.

"She was even crying when she got his helmet off and he finally decided to wake up. When the refs found out he was hurt they called in the paramedics and got him on the stretcher. Right before they left, Vicki and Cake-Eater were holding hands and their fingers slipped away." Jesse said, his voice dimming down.

"We'd never seen her more flustered and upset in her entire life like no joke her face was cherry tomato red." Goldberg waved his hands in the air.

"Damn," Dean mumbled under his breath.

"So when Vicki flung herself at Banksie again, it was like memory lane?" Dwayne questioned.

"Ya, like walking down memory lane all over again." Jesse nodded.

"She's definitely got the hots for Banksie," Goldberg said, Adam didn't hear because he was too busy staring at Victoria's body. "And he's got the hots for her too."

"I do not!" He snapped, making them all laugh.

"Dude, you have to make a move!" Dean grasped his shoulder.

Adam let a huff escape his lips before dropping his head, "Ok, maybe I am in denial," He groaned. The guys all celebrated and high-fived each other. "But what if I told ya all that I have a plan already," He turned to face his friends smirking. "The day Vicki and I went out in a shopping spree, not only did I buy her whatever she wanted, I secretly bought her a good amount of jewelry."

The guys got excited from this new news, Adam reached over in his khaki shirts to pull out a good-sized jewelry box from his pocket and opened it up to reveal a sterling silver necklace with her name as the charm in bold letters.

Fulton immediately snatched the box to take a good look at it, "Ya really are serious about not going cheap on my sister." Fulton chuckled, closing the box and tossing it back to Adam, who caught it.

"Ya, I really want her to like me," He nodded, briefly looking at Victoria who was giggling and smiling with Julie and Connie before turning back to his friends. "I want to impress her."

"What do we do about Charlie?" Goldberg reminded Adam about Charlie and the rest of his guy friends who weren't there to hear the conversation.

"Keep it a secret for now. I want Vicki to find out on her own." Adam then looked at Charlie who was playing frisbee with Ken, Luis, and Guy, rubbing his thumb over the lid of the necklace box before glancing over at Victoria who made eye contact with him, biting her lip and waving at him.

Charlie, Ken, Luis, and Guy were all jumping and doing acrobatic catches and running to fetch the frisbee they lost. Connie had looked over at Luis and smiled at him to be nice because he was staring at her. Guy clenched his jaw the threw the frisbee over Luis's head.

"Hey! Come on man!" Luis threw his hands in the air in frustration. "Ya did that on purpose!" Guy just rolled his eyes. "Go get it!"

"No, you get it!" Guy snapped pointing towards where the frisbee went sailing off to.

Ken just shook his head in disappointment. He was upset that his friends were arguing over girls and not having fun. He wanted to have fun with everyone, and everyone to get along. He bent down to pick up the frisbee from the sand when he took a knee to his nose, but it wasn't his knee.

The Iceland team was running down the shoreline, training, in t-shirts, tank tops, sweatpants, and shorts. Vires had smashed his knee into Ken's nose, making let out a whale before dropping to his knees with the frisbee in his hand. The team all let out brutish sly chuckles before continuing down the beach. When they were passing Connie, Julie, and Victoria, Olaf and Gunnar practically had their tongues rolled out of their mouths. Victoria flipped herself over to notice them, pulling down her sunglasses on the bridge of her nose, giving the two boys who asked her out a good look. Olaf threw Victoria his signature wink and kiss while Gunnar just smirked at her before going back to running down the shore.

"Það er eins og í hvert skipti sem ég sé hana, hún hefur minna og minna fât í." (It's like every time I see her, she has less and less clothes on) Olaf chuckled before licking his lips, the team laughed along with him except Gunnar who clenched his jaw.

Charlie, Guy, and Luis darted for Ken and helped him up as he clenched his dripping nose, "Yeah! Ya better run!" Luis threw his hand in the air, pointing at them. "Cowards!"

The Iceland team all stopped abruptly before turning around to meet four frightened faces while they had bull-like expressions painted on their faces.

"Uh, Luis, ya didn't think this through well did ya?" Guy then swallowed a lump in his throat.

"There's more of them than us and they're bigger." Charlie let out a nervous chuckle, rubbing the back of his neck, glancing at Luis. Ken then dropped the frisbee.

"RUN!" The four all screamed as they kicked sand and started sprinting off while the Iceland team charged them.

Charlie, Ken, Luis, and Guy decided to try and lose them in a crowd of beachgoers and sunbathing women, which didn't work. Then they tried to cut through a volleyball game, hoping one or a few of them would get caught in the net since they were all very tall too. That didn't work either. Luis did trip and fall, but Guy turned around and helped him up before continuing to take off running.

"Over there, over there!" Charlie pointed to a movie production set. The four all darted for the set and the shot they were filming. When they went through, the producer threw down his clipboard and cut the scene, then the Iceland team came trampling through, pushing people out of their way, keeping their eyes on the prize.

"In here, in here! Hurry up!" Guy dashed for a sitting area that was sunk into the ground with picnic tables and graffiti on the concrete.

They didn't realize it was a dead-end before it was too late, the Iceland team had already come up behind them, "Who's the coward now?" Olaf bellowed, exchanging looks with each of them, while the 7 of them started cornering Charlie, Ken, Luis, and Guy.

"That's an excellent question!" Fulton called from behind his friends. When Charlie, Luis, Ken, and Guy turned, Fulton and Dean we're sitting on top of the wall with their regular clothes on.

They hopped down into the pit to join their friends to help defend them. The two teams stared at each other. It was dead silent for a few moments.

Then more Iceland players came up from behind the 6 boys and Coach Stansson pushed his way through his players, "What's going on?!" When he got to the front, he folded his arms over his chest and the players parted ways for Marria to walk through to the front. She stood side by side with Stansson.

"They interrupted our workout!" Uberjavik (Uber-YA-vic) complained.

"Yeah!" Ken scoffed. "They started it!" He pointed with his free hand while the other covered his nose. "Look at my nose!" He revealed a bloodied nose, still thick and hot blood coming out of his nostrils and the break in the skin on the bridge.

"This is between you boys," Stansson hair coolly. "I don't want to meddle." He then called Maria's name under his breath before trotting off with her at his side.

The odds were 14 to 6 in favor of Team Iceland. Olaf threw the first throw, hitting Fulton in the stomach. Then Dean threw himself on to this back but Gunnar and Amselik pulled him off as Olaf and Fulton continued to throw hands. Charlie, Guy, Ken, and Luis decided to start and throw down with the rest of the Iceland team members but were starting to get tired. Charlie was being gripped by the collar of his shirt by Uberjavik and Vires while down on his knees. They were taking turns punching Charlie in the face when Charlie's head got to one side, then it was punched to the other. Team USA took a big blow.
