4 - Snips

"The Council want to disguise you as a Jedi."

I almost spit out my drink. Is he serious? I would make a terrible excuse for a Jedi, the assassin would find me no problems! I'd be an easy target for sure.

"I know you think this won't work, Princess, but trust our judgement." Anakin smiled at me warmly across the table.

Did he just read my mind??

"I do trust the Council's judgement... but I would make a very poor excuse of a 'Jedi' indeed." I made sure to use my fingers to air quote 'Jedi' to emphasize my point. Anakin laughed a little, Obi-Wan smirking also.

Obi-Wan spoke up, his voice soft and reassuring, "Which is why we will also be giving you training. One: for the disguise to be more believable. Two: also for self-defence should you find yourself in danger without us present to protect you."

I nod slowly, my brain absorbing the information. As a Princess who has been basically confined to my palace for around 14 of the 19 years of my life, I can hardly see myself being any good at combat. I play with the cuffs of my sleeves anxiously, my gaze directed onto the plate of food before me, which I now didn't have the appetite to finish.

"I'm sure you will be fine, your highness. So long as you don't go on any more of your.. expeditions, no harm should come to you. Your assassin will most likely be looking for a Princess, which is quite obvious in a crowd. But as a Jedi, amongst others.. well it's a highly fool proof plan. So, what do you think?"

I think for a minute. If I do this, I probably will not be anywhere near the Senate or Sarin. But if I don't do this... I will probably die before I even get the chance to help Solaris. I take a deep breath and sigh in defeat.

"I guess I have no other choice."

***

The next morning, a service droid arrives at Anakin's Padawan's room - who had been gone for longer than anticipated - with a Jedi outfit. I opened the package, and I take the clothes into my hands. I was given brown and khaki green robes with brown boots to match. I had never worn clothes like this ever in my whole life. Anything I had ever worn was usually big elegant ballgowns, probably bejewelled and with a tiara to match. I had never even been in possession in something this... casual. I pull on my clothes and do my hair up in a quick and messy side braid, which I thought would kinda complete the look.

When I looked in the mirror, I saw a completely different person. A whole different side to me which was new, but at the same time, I liked it. I nod at my reflection to tell myself I could do this. I could do this and I'd be safe. After my mini inner pep-talk, I leave the room and walk to the training room where Anakin told me to be. As I walk over there, I get stares and glances by bystanders in the corridors, and smiles and greetings from others. Perhaps this meant the disguise was working; they did not see me as a Princess, but as one of them.

When I walked into the room, I saw Anakin sparring with another person. They were swinging their lightsabers too fast and they didn't stay still so I could not identify them. They were definitely not Obi-Wan, as they were much smaller and younger than Anakin. Plus, Obi-Wan's lightsaber was not green. After about half a minute, the two retract their blades and stop, high-fiving each other. Now they were completely stationary, I took a good look at Anakin's partner. I squinted my eyes and stared until I realised that they were in fact a young, togruta girl with orange skin and blue and white lekku. I watched from afar as she and Anakin smiled and talked amongst each other happily. I was just about to leave the room when Anakin recognized me whilst my back was turned.

"Hey, did you need something?"

I turned around in confusion and walked towards the pair. He called for me, did he not? I stood before the two of them, my hands rested on my hips.

"Reporting for duty, General Skywalker," I say sarcastically. His eyes widened in realisation, and his togruta friend raised her eyebrows in confusion.

"(y/n)! I didn't recognize you! Wow, this disguise.. it really suits you," Anakin stammered apologetically, rubbing his hand on the back of his head.

"(y/n)? Master who is this?" the girl spoke up. Anakin smiled and stood before the both of us.

"Snips, this is Princess (y/n) Anara from Solaris. Princess, this is my Padawan, Ahsoka Tano."

I smiled politely at Ahsoka, who bowed as soon as she heard my title. I could also somehow sense the feeling she regretted speaking to me in the tone she did. To be honest, I didn't care. I may have a title, but I am still a person. I watched as the girl clasped her hands together and smiled awkwardly at me and Anakin. So this is the girl who's room I've been staying in.

"You don't need to bow to me, Ahsoka. I'm normal, just like you," I giggle, placing my hand on her shoulder. She smiles warmly at me in appreciation.

"Thank you. So what brings you to Coruscant, Princess? I'm assuming this isn't your usual get-up." Ahsoka pointed to my outfit. I laugh as I scan my eyes over the green material.

"Well I've been nearly murdered twice by an assassin, so the Council have decided to disguise me as a Jedi whilst being under Skywalker's protection. So, I guess this also gives you a free pass to call me by my first name." I wink at Ahsoka, who giggles in response.

She was so friendly, and seemed genuinely nice. It felt good to have a friend. It was a feeling I was rather unfamiliar with. Anakin raised his eyebrows in disbelief at our friendly banter. I bet that he was wondering why he didn't get the open invitation to call me by my name... I mean, it's not as if he doesn't do it anyways.

"You've definitely been through a lot, but Anakin is a great teacher and will no doubt let no harm come to you. He's good like that." Ahsoka punches Anakin's arm playfully and smirks at him. Anakin looks down at Ahsoka and laughs a little. You could clearly see how strong their friendship was, and how comfortable they were around one another. It brought a warm feeling to my heart and I felt a smile tug at the corners of my mouth. "I better get going, I'll see you around Skyguy. You too (y/n), try not to get killed again."

I laugh at Ahsoka's joke and Anakin and I wave her off as she leaves the room. I turn back to the man in front of me, who had an expression of adoration and fondness pasted on his face.

"You're lucky to have a friend like her, Skywalker."

Anakin nods in agreement. "I really am, Snips is like a little sister to me. She's a skilled fighter, a brave leader and a great friend. Don't tell her I said that though."

I shook my head, laughing a little at him. "So... what do I do?"

"Oh, right. Well first of all, I need to teach you basic lightsaber combat."

I furrow my eyebrows. "But I don't have-"

Anakin chuckles, and unclips a lightsaber hilt from his belt, smirking at me. "You doubt me, Princess."

He hands me the long, metal handle and place it in my open hand. I curl my fingers around it, getting a feel for the weapon. It's heavier than I thought it would be. I trace my fingers over the engravings of the silver hilt, observing the elegant patterns on the side.

{a/n - this is the hilt I chose when visualising the lightsaber. Hope you like it ❤️}

I turned the hilt over in my hand, fascinated by this object... and it was mine. My fingers continued to trace the surface until they found a small button on the side. I looked up at Anakin eagerly, as if asking him whether to push it through my mind. He nods his head, smiling at me. Excitedly, I push the button, and a blue blade shoots out in front of me. Adrenaline rushes through me as I stare into the blue light, my mouth falling into an uncontrollable smile. Anakin falls about laughing, but not in a mocking sort of way.

"This is...incredible."

"I remember that feeling. The second I ignited my saber for the first time, I couldn't stop the feeling of accomplishment and excitement. Don't worry, I'm going to teach you how to use it." Anakin said to me. I swung the lightsaber around recklessly, causing Anakin to take a few steps backwards putting his hands out in front of him.  "Woah woah, Princess. Try not to kill me before I teach you."

I retract the blade and giggle at him. "Sorry, Skywalker. Proceed."

Anakin removed his own lightsaber from his belt and ignited it. He starts to spin it around his body expertly, even incorporating throwing and catching into the mix. It was obvious he was trying to impress me, but I was more fascinated by the whirring of the lightsaber, and the blue light as it spun. As he stopped, I clapped my hands slowly, causing him to smirk. Anakin then instructs me to ignite my lightsaber once more so he could teach me a few spins.

I press the button, and the blade of my lightsaber shoots out once more, startling me. I held it at a safe distance from my body, and attempted to replicate Anakin's moves. I managed the first spin in front of me, using my wrist to swivel the hilt in a circle. Anakin watches, nodding in approval. I decide to take it up a notch. I carry on twirling my saber and then tried to do the spin behind my back, swapping hands. I manage the pass and bring it back in front of me and try to spin it in my other hand. Unfortunately, I was not as skilled in this hand. I dropped the lightsaber, causing it to land on the floor, the blade automatically retracting. I sigh in disappointment and kneel down to pick it up.

"Impressive, your highness. Now do it again."

I do as he says. Practicing the same left hand-back-right hand spin. After hours of practicing, dropping and almost searing off my hand, I master it at last. As I make the final pass back onto my left hand, Anakin applauds me. I shut off my lightsaber and move the sweaty strands of hair from my forehead, pleased with myself as I regain my breath.

"You're very talented (y/n). The progress you've made in a matter of hours is astonishing. I'm very impressed. I never expected a Princess like yourself would be so incredibly gifted."

I raise my eyebrows at his backhanded compliment. I stare at Anakin dead in the eyes and fold my arms. "Maybe don't assume my abilities purely based off my title, General. You have no idea what I'm capable of."
