28 - He Deserves Better
{Y/N'S POV}
"Ahsoka is missing, do you two have any idea as to where she has gone?" Obi-Wan asked Anakin and I as we awkwardly stood alongside Rex in the doorway. I shift my eyes from Obi-Wan before us and up to Anakin, who seemed strangely calm and collected despite his Master's query.
Do we tell him?
Anakin seemed to react as soon as that thought sprung into my head, his eyebrow twitching before slightly lowering his head to meet my gaze in the corner of his eyes before directing his glance back to Obi-Wan.
"Close the doors, Rex," Anakin commanded shortly at Rex, causing the soldier to immediately usher me away from the door and punching the code into the keypad to trigger the entrance to close shut. Anakin slowly shuffles closer to me once Rex had moved away an Obi-Wan began to approach us.
"I take it from your secrecy, you know of Ahsoka's current status?" Obi-Wan asks Anakin once more, folding his arms tightly across his chest as his eyes are glued to mine, making me awkwardly direct mine down to the end of my gown grazing the floor gently.
"Listen, Master... we are going to tell you what as happened but this is strictly confidential and stays between the four of us," Anakin stated plainly, raising his eyebrow suspiciously at Obi-Wan as he stared down at me.
"Anakin what do you-"
"Do you or do you not understand?" Anakin snapped, rapidly growing more and more impatient with Obi-Wan as he cuts him off mid-sentence.
"Yes of course... though the Council won't be pleased about. I swear I will keep this strictly classified and won't breathe so much as a word to another soul. Just tell me, where is Ahsoka? Is she ok?" Obi-Wan placed his hand up in front of him as though he was taking a metaphorical oath to keep our information a secret, his eyes growing sad upon the mention of Ahsoka and her uncertain state of wellbeing.
"I'm going to give you the watered-down version of the story to keep things short and so we have more time to act. If you remember back to the Queen's coronation, she was kidnapped and then you found us both in that abandoned Temple near the palace. What you didn't know, was the identity of the attacker, who was actually behind all of the assassination attempts," Anakin began explaining our story to Obi-Wan, who stroked his beard as he listened intently with a great amount of interest.
Furrowing his eyes in confusion, he shot Anakin a look, "But how is that possible? Senator Sarin was already imprisoned at the time of the coronation... how could he have been able to help kidnap the Queen?"
"It turned out that Senator Sarin was never behind the attacks on my life and he was in fact framed as he previously tried to tell us when you arrested him. After I left the ballroom that night, CT-4974 - or Moxie as he would more commonly be known as - drugged me, kidnapped me and then brought me to be held captive in the dungeon of the Temple," I speak up, scratching my forearm uncomfortably as Obi-Wan and Anakin's eyes are both brought down onto me. Anakin seemed to be just as surprised and even a little more angry as I had never actually told him that Moxie was the one behind my abduction.
"Moxie? I would never peg him as a traitor, he was always such an admiral soldier in the 501st," Rex chimed in, sighing in dismay due to the thought of his fallen brother.
"So it was the Clone who was behind all of the assassination attempts?" Obi-Wan asked, his voice signifying how he seemed a little lost in all of this information.
"No, Moxie was simply blinded by his affection for me and also because of how he was being manipulated by my captor, and so he voluntarily partook in the kidnapping. The main offender however was um... It was-" I explained Moxie's motive confidently to Obi-Wan, Anakin and Rex, but then as soon as I was about to move onto Ayzel and his role in all of this, I found a lump appear in my throat and preventing me to speak further. It was just something about openly speaking about my older brother and how he wanted me dead that made me feel nauseous and uneasy inside.
Anakin who obviously somehow detected my discomfort, he placed a gentle hand upon my shoulder, giving my a reassuring smile as though to tell me that we would continue for me as I could not. My eyes lingered upon his fingers gently placed on my shoulders, up his arm and to meet his handsome face who looked upon me with such adoration and infatuation.
Why have I never noticed him look at me this way before?
"The attacker is the Queen's brother, Master. The Prince carries a form of resentment for her due to their mother's actions on him in his past, meaning he has been seeking vengeance on (y/n) and he wants her dead. That is why he kidnapped her and now... now he has Ahsoka captive so the Queen will come to him," Anakin says to Obi-Wan, his finger caressing my shoulder gently as he does not break eye contact with his Master. Obi-Wan however, did not have his eyes on Anakin, but instead on me and more specifically, Anakin's hand rested on my shoulder
"So what do you propose we do?"
"Ayzel wants me to meet him in the plains just outside of Vis back on Solaris. We have just under 48 hours to be there before he kills or severely harms Ahsoka... we-we need to go now, and I am not taking no for an answer. As a Queen, I outrank you and therefore I command we depart for Solaris immediately," I demand of them, startling Obi-Wan and causing Anakin to raise his eyebrows in amusement of my sudden and unexpected assertion of dominance within the room.
"Yes of course, my lady," Obi-Wan was the first to speak through the uneasy silence I had created, bowing his head to me before jerking his head at Anakin in direction of the door.
As soon as Obi-Wan's head was turned, Anakin swiftly placed a gentle kiss upon my hair before quickly moving away to follow his Master. Stopping at the door, he gives me one last goofy smile and disappears around the corner, leaving me alone with Rex.
I let out a small giggle as I shake my head once Anakin had fully gone, triggering Rex to start to move towards the door. Snapping myself out of my train of thought, I hold up my hand in front of me and try to approach the trooper before he left also, "Rex can I please have a word with you for a moment?"
Stopping in his tracks, Rex turns his head to me in initial confusion before stopping and bowing to me, "What can I do for you, your majesty?"
"Please, call me (y/n)... You see, I need you to do me a favour soldier."
"What is it, my lady?" Rex asks me, propping his helmet on his waist.
"When we arrive before my brother, I-I'm going to have to do something... I just need you to promise me that you will stop Anakin from trying to stop me from doing so. I need you to restrain him," I struggle through my sentence, my a fracture appearing on my heart as I imagine Anakin struggle as he tries to stop me from giving my life over to Ayzel.
At least by sacrificing yourself, you will free Anakin from that fatal attachment he has for you.
He deserves better than this.
He deserves better than you.
Spare him from the pain you would inflict upon him if you pursued a relationship with him.
Save him from yourself.
The voice was right.
Letting out another dismayed and saddened sigh, Rex nodded to me, "Yes, my lady."
***
I did not tell Anakin or even Obi-Wan of my talk with Rex as I knew for a fact that both of them would object seeing as they are only under the impression that we are primarily going to retrieve Ahsoka and not to sacrifice myself in order to finally stop Ayzel from inflicting anymore pain upon the people I loved the most.
Ahsoka was one thing, but if Ayzel got hold of Anakin and finally finished him off; I don't know how I will be able to survive that kind of devastation.
He deserves to live.
With or without me.
As we are now on our way back to Solaris, I pace around my quarters anxiously, gnawing nervously at my fingers until I begin to rip down to the skin as I come to terms with that in a few hours, I will be dead. Desperately trying to compose myself, my eyes drift over to the new outfit I had brought to change into. Folding my arms tightly across my chest, I walk over to the bed in the corner of the room and gently remove my mother's crown from my head and carefully place it down on the mattress.
{ a/n : This is our new outfit and it's a lot different to what we usually wear, but a badass Queen needs an equally badass warrior outfit if she's gonna face her emotionally conflicted brother! Hope y'all like it! <3 }
As I stepped into my new outfit and pulled on the brown leather boots, I bring the clump of dress into my hands in an attempt to fold it. The blue gown spilled out of my arms as I fought with the endless material, shaking the dress violently as I struggled more and more. My temper and patience was rapidly decreasing and therefore just making my battle in folding my gown more heated than I anticipated. As I take a moment to breathe and blow the hair from my face, I notice a small slip of paper emerge from the pocket of my dress and watch it elegantly drift down to the floor.
Shoving my gown aside in a crumpled heap in defeat, I kneel down and take the paper in between my fingers, examining the cursive lettering in dark ink on the front of the letter.
'Ayzel'
It was the letter from my Mother that he had never gotten due to her untimely death shortly after writing it. The letter which contained the apology he yearned to hear and yet never got the privilege of hearing. The letter which could have changed his whole life.
I hear a knock sound on my door suddenly and Anakin's sweet voice sounding from the other side. As I call to allow him entry, I quickly slip the letter into the pocket of my tunic just as he comes into the room. At the exact moment when the doors hiss close, Anakin comes rushing towards me and takes me into his arms, swinging me around in a circle before placing me back down on the floor, resting his forehead onto mine as I giggle in enjoyment.
"Don't fret my Queen.. soon we will have Ahsoka home and she will be safe at last. And then we can finish what we started in that transmission room, don't you think?" he mumbles to me, his voice sounding silky smooth in my ear as he gently and lovingly grazes his nose against mine.
Not being able to bear the thought of destroying his last happy moment with me, I simply nod and smile up at him, getting completely lost and drowning within his ocean blue pools which still glinted with a flicker of hope in them, making my own broken heart ache more inside.
"Look out for Ahsoka, Anakin... promise me," I whisper to him, trying to blink back the tears as he looks down on me with a look of confusion pasted upon his face but yet his smile never faltered once.
"We will do this together, (y/n). She'll be ok, I know she will."
"I know, I'm counting on it." I reply to him rather too quickly, Anakin's eyebrows furrowing as he looked on my face, incredibly confused by my strange behaviour.
"(y/n) what do you mea-"
Anakin is fortunately cut off as we are shaken a little off balance as the ship suddenly makes contact with the ground. I felt his hands grip onto my waist to keep me steady and I brought my own hands down to his to push his body away from mine, causing a frown to appear upon his once happy lips.
"We've landed.. we should go before Ayzel becomes impatient and harms Ahsoka," I mutter, tearing my eyes from his as I approach the doorway, leaving Anakin alone behind me. I hear him call for me, pleading for me to come back, but I simply can't bear being with him for another moment knowing what is going to become of me in but a few moments.
I walk down down the ramp of the ship and onto the grassland which was the plains, seeing the oblivious city of Vis a little into the distance. I close my eyes tightly, breathing in the fresh air as the wind brushes against my exposed flesh, feeling the coolness of the breeze waft up my nose.
"Ready, my lady?" the soothing voice of Obi-Wan sounds behind me. Taking a deep breath and swallowing down any fear I had, I swivel on my heels and face Obi-Wan. I nod to him slowly and my eyes are met with Anakin's as he emerges at the top of the ramp.
You don't deserve to look at him.
As soon as Rex joins us at the bottom of the ramp, we set off across the plains, trudging silently along the grass until we meet a cluster of people just in front of a large weeping willow tree, blowing white blossom petals across the field as we approached them. Obi-Wan, Anakin and Rex took their place behind me as I come face to face with those opposing us.
My eyes scan the people that were stood there, fortunately not outnumbering us as there was only four people there too. Two of those I did not recognize, but I noticed that they both wielded lightsabers and dressed in fully black clothing. One seemed to be an older man and the other an intimidating looking female with a crazed gleam in her eyes.
But my attention was not focused on them.
It was focused on my older brother stood a few metres in front of me, a blaster pressed to the head of a familiar girl kneeling on the grass, squashing the tiny vibrant blades of green with her weight.
"Kenobi," the sinister female suddenly spoke, a smirk crawling upon her lips.
"Ventress," Obi-Wan spat back bluntly.
"Dooku," Anakin snarled at the older man from behind me, who did not grant Anakin the same attention in return.
"Glad you could join us, sister," Ayzel smirked, loading his blaster as he pressed it harder against Ahsoka's head. I tried not to look at Ahsoka's tear-stained face as she gazed up at me from the floor; because I knew by just one look at her, I would completely break down all at once.
"Ayzel."
This ends now.
