23 - Deserter

After Obi-Wan disrupted me and Ahsoka's discoveries on my father's identity, we were told to pack our things and prepare for departure to Coruscant. Of course this bothered me, as I had only been back to Solaris for not even a week now. However, I tried to think of the positives: being back on Coruscant would possibly enable me the chance to discover more of my father... plus I get to reunite with a dear family friend of mine, Satine, who has been basically like my second mother for years now.

{ a/n : dress time my loves! Hope you like this one! ^^ }

After I changed into a beautiful green gown and fixed my mother's tiara onto my wild curls, I was escorted by Ahsoka and Obi-Wan onto the ship they had brought when they came to track me down after I had ran off. I am led through the ship to a lounge area, where I am greeted by Anakin who was still in a little pain, but sufficiently rested up. I waited for the Clone Trooper who had brought me to the room leave, and as soon as I heard the doors close together with a slight hiss, an uncontrollable smile spreads across my face and I find my legs rushing over to Anakin. As I ran to him, he had his arms outstretched and ready to hold me in his embrace. I wrapped my arms around him tightly, nearly knocking him over from the speed I was running at. I heard a short gasp escape his mouth as I hugged him, making me loosen my arms and step away at arm's length.

"Oh god, Anakin are you ok? Did I hurt you?" I ask frantically, fear coursing through me as my eyes examine his wound area.

He shakes his head and gives me a weakened smile but slowly pulls me back towards him, feeling his arms gently snake around my waist as I rested my head on his chest. I couldn't help but intake the sweet scent from his tunic as I listened to his poor heart hammer inside his chest, making me smile.

"I missed you, my Princess," he whispered into my hair, feeling his chin rest on the top of my head due to the rather large height difference.

"I'm so relieved you're better. You really scared me, Skywalker," I whisper back, my eyes closed shut as I concentrated on the frantic pattern of his heartbeat.

"I-" he begins but is cut short from the sound of the doors starting to open once more, making the two of us break apart from each other's embrace abruptly.

I feel my heart beat frantically inside my chest as the two of us stand awkwardly side-by-side, watching to see who it was. Fortunately for the both of us, it was just Ahsoka. I allowed my frame to relax as I let out a long-held sigh of relief, glancing up at Anakin who looked as though he was probably about to pass out.

"Uhh... are you two good?" Ahsoka asked, raising her eyebrow at the two of us.

I shake my hand in front of me dismissively, whilst simultaneously attempting to regain my breath, "No, no, we're fine. What do you need?"

"I came to see if you needed anything and if Anakin wanted painkillers to speed up his recovery. Obi-Wan also told me to tell you we should be landing on Coruscant momentarily," Ahsoka says to me, folding her arms across her chest as she shifts glances from Anakin to me, "Have you told him about... y'know?"

Anakin furrows his eyebrows at Ahsoka and turns to look down on me, folding his own arms across his chest, "Tell me what, (y/n)?"

"Well... when me and Ahsoka were looking for clues in my mother's room, we found more than we'd ever hope to," I say to Anakin whilst walking over to my bag in the corner of the room. I open it carefully and delve my hand inside, pulling out the lightsaber concealed in the red velvet and the photograph of my mother, father and baby Ayzel and walking back over to Anakin's side. "There was a box full of letters and photos and this."

I hand the lightsaber carefully to Anakin, who stares at the cloth in confusion before unwrapping it and staring at it blankly in his hands.

"Is this?.."

"I think that's my father's lightsaber. I think he was a Jedi," I whisper to Anakin as he ignites the saber, watching intently as the green blade shoots out in front of him. I wait for Anakin to stop twirling the lightsaber around and retracts the blade before taking the hilt from him and handing him the photo.

"So I take it, this is your father?" Anakin says, pointing his finger over the man stood next to my mother and baby brother.

"Yes... but despite this, I know nothing about him. Not his name, not even what happened to him-"

Anakin gives me a soft smile and places his finger gently under my chin and lifts it so our eyes met, "I'm going to find out for you. When we get to Coruscant, you go and attend to your business with the Duchess, and I'll do some research. Snips can go with you so you don't feel alone."

I smile at him, overwhelmed by his beautiful gesture to help me. He really has the sweetest soul; and it seems that he will stop at nothing to make me happy. I find myself getting so lost in his eyes, almost drowning in the ocean blue pools to a point where I completely forgot Ahsoka's presence in the room. I am brought back to reality as the moment is completely interrupted from the incessant beeping of Ahsoka's wrist-com due to an incoming transmission. I tear my eyes from Anakin and turn to Ahsoka who was examining her wrist-com.

"Obi-Wan says that we've landed and the Duchess is waiting for you in her chambers in the Senate building."

I exchange a long look with Anakin, who smiles reassuringly to calm my nerves.

Anakin: I'm going to find your father, I promise.

Ahsoka and I walk over to the Senate building as Anakin and Obi-Wan return to the Jedi Temple for a briefing with the council. Obi-Wan had also tried to make Ahsoka replace him to go with Anakin so he could personally escort me, but Anakin luckily chirped up to tell him that I had specifically asked for Ahsoka to accompany me.

As Ahsoka leads me to where Satine was supposed to meeting me, I am reminded of the unpleasant memories of the events that occurred in these very walls only just a few weeks ago where Sarin had basically doomed my system. Whilst on our journey, I am greeted by several Senators and esteemed members of systems as they continuously congratulate me on my succession to the throne. When we finally reached the room, I sighed in relief that I would not have to talk to any more insufferable Senators. Ahsoka stands behind me as I walk into the room, where I am greeted by a familiar face; one which I had grown to miss dearly.

"(y/n), there you are! I have missed you so much my dear," Satine says to me as she walks over, pulling me into a hug. I silently prayed that she didn't feel the metal hilt of my father's lightsaber hidden in the deep pockets of my skirt. I smiled as she pulled away, placing a gentle hand upon my cheek.

"I have missed you too, Auntie Satine. I truly have," I said to her, smiling against her hand. I really have missed her, as like I said before: she was like a second mother to me ever since I was a youngling. Whenever my mother failed to be there for me, Satine always was.

"I know that you are probably sick of this by now darling, but Rokka and Ayzel... I'm so sorry," she whispered to me as he face saddened from the thought of my deceased mother and supposedly deceased brother. I say nothing in response, and instead just give her a look that told her exactly how I felt.

She returns a smile to me as she gently caressed my cheek with her thumb lovingly, before pulling away and placing her arm around my shoulder as she directed my attention to four young girls sat in a row on the long sofa chair.

"Well enough of this glum talk, we have to celebrate you, my dear! I am truly proud of you (y/n), it warms my heart to see the young woman you've become. You remind me so much of your mother," Satine says, shaking my shoulder a little, playfully. I let out a small giggle as my cheeks flush red because of the four pairs of eyes staring at me.

"Thank you Auntie Satine," I say in between giggles.

"Now, I've come to realise that the government on Solaris has become... well, corrupt. And now you are Queen, you can choose whomever you wish to represent your system. Although this is completely your choice, my darling, I have actually taken it upon myself to bring in a few apprentices to Senators from various systems who would be honoured to be a part of the Solaris government," Satine speaks a little louder, using her free arm to gesture for the four girls to come towards us.

Each of them suddenly sprung to life and rushed over to stand in front of us, all four of the girls curtseying to me as they stood before me. I greeted them each with warm smiles, and observed them closely. The girl farthest on the left, appeared to be a togruta girl much like Ahsoka, but with different markings on her montrals and lekku and a different skin colour. Next to the togruta girl, stood a petite human girl with beautiful chocolate brown skin, and flowy black curls that reached her lower back . The girl positioned beside her looked Pantoran, her purple-blue ish skin giving it away. Her white, lavender coloured hair was done up in a bun, and she beamed at me politely. Finally, the girl on the far right and closest to me was another human girl, with sun-kissed skin, golden hair and piercing emerald green eyes staring at me.

"Queen (y/n), I present to you Phoebe Yumero," Satine gestured to the togruta girl before moving along to the black haired human girl, "Allura Beman," Satine's hand moved from her to the Pantoran, "Shadani Strestar," and then to the golden haired girl stood before me, "and Dahlia Koss."

I bowed my head to each of the girls stood eagerly in the line, obviously beyond excited because of how they were in the presence of a real-life Queen.

I am startled as Shadani suddenly thrusts her hand in front of her and taking it in mine, "It's an honour to meet you, my lady."

I shake Shadani's hand whilst my eyes move to Dahlia, who looked as though she could barely contain her excitement.

"It would also be an honour to serve you as part of your government, your majesty," Phoebe speaks up, playing with the bottom of her lekku nervously.

"We were horrified about what that Sarin did to your system in the Senate a while ago, your highness. Trust me, I would not have made that sort of decision especially seeing as you weren't even there to agree with it," Allura said softly, making me smile because of her support.

I look to Satine, who was incredibly amused at each of the eager girls stood before me, "I can't possibly choose just one of these wonderful girls, Auntie," I smirk at her smugly whilst gesturing my hand to the girls.

Satine winked at me, "Who said you had to choose one?"

"I agree," I say, turning to face the girls, "I don't think I could have come across any better candidates than you four, which is why I am appointing Shadani as the official Senator, Phoebe as the deputy, Dahlia as the advisor and Allura as the Admiral. Congratulations girls."

I smile widely as I try not to laugh at the four girls before me, who looked as though they were about to explode with happiness and contentment. Satine places her arm around my shoulder once more, resting her head on mine as she smiles down at me proudly.

{ANAKIN'S POV}

After the briefing, I split off from Obi-Wan and the others to seek guidance of someone I knew would have a lot of answers and advice for me. I barely could pay attention in the briefing, my thoughts were centred on (y/n) alone in the Senate building. Even now, as I walk to find the answers to her questions of her father, my thoughts are practically attacking me with horrible scenarios where she would end up hurt or dead. Reassuring myself that Ahsoka would be there to protect her, I allow myself access to the dim-lit room, the only light shining through blinds onto two circular seats.

"Come in young Skywalker, you may."

"Master Yoda, I require your assistance," I say in a hushed tone, approaching the little green alien perched on the seat, his eyes squinted shut as his ears twitch when I take a seat opposite him.

"Help you with, what can I?"

I sigh and produce the photograph from inside the pocket on the inside of my cloak, and I hand it to him, his green claws curling around it, "Can you identify this man? I think... I think he used to be a Jedi."

I watch Yoda examine the photograph in immense concentration until I see him frown, which makes my heart drop.

"A Jedi, he was. Part of the Order many years ago," Yoda said to me, staring me straight in the eyes.

"Who was he, Master?" I press him further for more answers, but careful enough to not make him become suspicious.

"A deserter of the Order he was, but unaware of his fate, I am," Yoda begins, shifting his wide eyes back down onto the face of (y/n)'s father. "His name, Maik-Sin Lao."

My eyes suddenly widen and my heart stops beating for a second as Yoda informs me of his name. Now having really all the information I needed, I reach to take the photo from Yoda, but he holds it to his chest and away from me.

"Acquire this, how did you?" he raises his eyebrow at me suspiciously and I gulp, desperately searching for a believable lie.

"I found it laying around in the archive library, Master. I was just curious of his identity."

I tried to keep a straight face in an attempt to make it more believable, hoping that this incredibly wise Jedi fell for my lies.

"Believe you, I do. But careful you must be, when learning of Maik-Sin. Only pain, you will find," Yoda warns me as he hands back the photo to me, which I quickly hide in my robe. Bowing my head to him, I quickly left the room and in the direction of the aircraft hangar where I would take a speeder over to the Senate building.

I found him (y/n).

{Y/N'S POV}

After my meeting with Satine, Ahsoka and I adjourned to my quarters as the sun began to set over the city skyline. We chatted for hours about the most random things, about our pasts and even our future. I even took upon myself the hefty and straining task of catching Ahsoka up about everything to do with Ayzel so far, not leaving out so much as a single detail.

"I can't believe your brother is really trying to kill you," Ahsoka says in an amazed, fatigue tone as she lies upside down on a chair, her lekku dangling down to the floor.

"Yeah well, what can I sa-" I begin to reply, but my sentence is cut short due to the loud sudden noise of someone trying to break through my doors. Ahsoka didn't miss a single trick, and within a second she was already stood in front of the doors poised with her lightsaber in hand, ready to attack. As the door finally opened, in burst a breathless Anakin, and Ahsoka rolls her eyes whilst retracting her blade.

"It's just you," she says in a bored voice, walking back over to her chair and collapsing down heavily on the cushion.

"Maik-Sin Lao. Deserter. Unsure-" Anakin gasped between breaths as he rushed over to me.

"Anakin, Anakin take a breath! Maik-Sin who?" I say in confusion, placing my hand on his shoulder to calm him.

"Maik-Sin Lao, he was a deserting Jedi who was a part of the Order 19 years ago. He's your father (y/n)."

My heart stops as I try to take in what he was telling me.

He found him.

Anakin found my father.

"What happened to him?" I ask in a hushed, frantic voice, afraid of what must be coming next.

"I don't know, even Yoda didn't know."

I shake my head and cast my gaze to the floor, not wanting to believe what I was hearing. We had come so close and yet I'm still as distant to my father as I have been my whole life.

Yoda doesn't know about him. But you know who does.

Without taking another look at Anakin or Ahsoka, I rush out of the room as I realise that the voice in my head was right. I ignored Anakin calling me to come back and Ahsoka telling me to calm down, and I continue to run right until I reach the West wing of the Senate building. I slow down my pace whilst trying to regain my breath as I navigate myself past lines upon lines of small dark rooms, each containing a different person through the glass. After walking right to the end of the row, I stop in front of the two clones positioned in front of the door.

"Let me pass."

"Yeah right, who are you?" one of them scoffed at me, making me cross my arms across my chest in annoyance.

"The Queen of Solaris, now let me in before I have you fired." I say sweetly, making the clone exchange glances with his partner before stepping aside and pressing the button that would open the doors.

As the automatic doors slid open, I stepped into the dark-ish room to face the miserable person glaring at me from the bed.

"Hello again, my lady," he snarled at me coldly.

"Sarin."
