16 - I Love Her
{ANAKIN'S POV}
The moment her hands left mine was the moment I realised that my heart was just about to run out of the room. I felt empty and numb as the girl who I had madly fallen in love with over the past month left me standing alone on the dance floor. Thank the force that other people were dancing so they couldn't be a witness to my brutal rejection. I quickly darted into the crowd and went to find Ahsoka because even though I was almost desperate to go to (y/n), I knew that after what just happened on the dance floor, she would need her space.
I found Ahsoka in the corner near the banquet table stood playfully making fun of Obi-Wan along with Padmé, who was casually sipping her drink whilst watching the pair of them in amusement. I slid in beside Padmé, smiling to the three of them as if absolutely nothing had just happened to me.
"What did I miss?" I asked them, abruptly stopping Ahsoka's maniacal laughter. That girl really scares me sometimes...
"Oh nothing Skyguy, I was just trying to convince Master Obi-Wan to let me shave his beard with my lightsaber-"
Obi-Wan places his fingers on the bridge of his nose in disappointment, whilst cutting Ahsoka off, "-And I was just reminding young Ahsoka that her lightsaber is a dangerous weapon and I will not be letting her put it anywhere near my face anytime soon."
Padmé chuckles into her glass as she raises it for another sip, eyeing my Master and my Padawan happily. I laugh and shake my head at Ahsoka, who smiles proudly at her comments. I wait until Obi-Wan is distracted by someone barging past him and then I lean in Ahsoka's direction, my mouth near her ear.
"Don't worry Snips, we'll get him while he sleeps," I whisper in Ahsoka's ear who doubles up in laughter in agreement. Padmé raises her eyebrow and smirks at the two of us as she lowers her glass, seemingly having heard us. I straightened my posture as Obi-Wan directed his attention back to us and shrug my shoulders nonchalantly at Padmé.
"I should probably go and find (y/n). I'll bring her over-" Padmé says, placing her glass on the table and attempting to leave to find (y/n). My eyes widen and I grab her by the arm, pulling her back to us.
"No, Padmé... She just went out for air, I think she wants a moment alone. I'm sure she's fine," I tell her, causing Obi-Wan to raise his eyebrow and Ahsoka to cross her arms at me. Padmé nods at me in agreement, but Ahsoka's facial expressions told me that she thought otherwise.
"Let me talk to her, Master. She'll listen to me," Ahsoka said stepping forward towards me. I think for a moment and sigh, realising that she was probably right. Ever since (y/n) arrived at the Temple, she and Ahsoka have been practically attached at the hip... I knew this because wherever you found (y/n), you had a 99% chance of finding Ahsoka not too far behind her.
I rest my hand on Ahsoka's shoulder and nod to her, a smile growing on her face from my approval. We watched as our young togruta friend disappeared in the sea of people in the audience, making it hard to spot her due to her height. I turn back to Obi-Wan and Padmé who stood awkwardly in silence as soon as I lost sight of Ahsoka completely.
"Isn't it wonderful that (y/n) has finally taken the throne? The poor thing has been through so much. Her mother and brother dying, the attempts on her life... she deserves this," Padmé said to us, the first to break the silence. Obi-Wan nods in agreement, stroking his beard. I direct my eyes to the floor knowing that I've probably just caused her more stress than she was already having by confessing my stupid feelings to her.
"I'm just happy that Senator Scumbag has finally been imprisoned for his crimes," I mumbled, crossing my arms as I tried not to anger myself as I previously did when I found the assassin's helmet in Sarin's desk.
"Senator Sarin? Why would you say something like that, Anakin? He's the reason Solaris is safe now!" Padmé protests, making me shoot her a stone cold look, my hands subconsciously balling into fists.
I see Obi-Wan furrow his eyebrows in confusion and turns to face Padmé, "Don't tell me you voted for Republic intervention when Sarin brought the case onto the Senate floor-"
"Of course I did! Naboo was one of the 94% of systems who passed the plea. I'm frankly appalled that the other 6% didn't use their common sense and vote that too, not that it made a difference on the outcome-"
"What the hell Padmé, how could you! Sarin was using (y/n) as a pawn in his sick game to get more power for himself. He was the one trying to kill her!" I snapped angrily, confronting her, who happened to look terrified from my rage.
Obi-Wan places a gentle hand on my shoulder trying to pull me back and calm down, but I shake it off immediately as I prepared to have another go at Padmé. I raise my gloved finger to point at her and open my mouth to yell but no sound emerges as I am interrupted by a frantic voice approaching us.
"Master! We-we have a problem!"
I turn around swiftly to see Ahsoka stood before me, an expression of panic and devastation pasted on her face. I try to keep my calm but my eyes travel down to Ahsoka's hand, where I saw a lightsaber grasped in her hands... a lightsaber that wasn't hers. I snatch the saber from Ahsoka's grip and examine it in my hand, observing the flower like patterns on the silver hilt. My heart rate elevates as I look back up at Ahsoka's face, where all I could see was fear gleaming in her blue eyes.
"Where-where did you get this, Snips?" I demand urgently. Ahsoka bit the edge of her lip anxiously and crosses her arms across her chest, obviously trying to fight back tears.
"I went out onto the courtyard to look for (y/n), but I couldn't find her anywhere. I walked over to the stone patio and on the floor was shards of broken glass, this lightsaber and... and a few drops of blood," Ahsoka's voice waivered as she tried not to imagine what had really happened.
I gripped the lightsaber in my metal hand and squeezed my eyes shut, refusing to believe what Ahsoka was telling me was true.
"That's (y/n)'s lightsaber..." Obi-Wan spoke softly; he seemed to be affected by this also somehow.
"(y/n) has a lightsaber??" Padmé says in disbelief.
I wave my hand behind me to shut her up because I did not have time for her stupid questions, "Not now Padmé! Ahsoka are you sure you didn't see her?"
Ahsoka shot me a look that she had never before. One of both hurt and anger. I was slightly taken aback by this but I knew it was for a justified reason.
"Of course I'm sure, Master! You really think I would be running back here almost in tears because I had found her? No. Like I said, I went outside and found broken glass, her lightsaber... and her um- her-"
"Her blood?" Padmé chimed in, causing Ahsoka to shiver in fear from the thought of seeing (y/n)'s blood splattered on the stone. I turned back and glared at Padmé before placing my hand on Ahsoka's shoulder in reassurance. It killed me to see Ahsoka like this; she was my like my little sister and so no harm should ever come to her no matter what. I mean that's my job as a big brother and as her mentor, is it not?
"Let's take a walk, Ahsoka. Get some fresh air, come on," I say to her softly and push her slightly on her shoulders to get her to start walking. Ahsoka exhales and nods to me slowly before taking control of the walking herself and leading me over to the door of the ballroom, leaving Obi-Wan alone with Padmé.
I follow her outside until we reach the courtyard, right where Ahsoka supposedly found (y/n)'s things. My eyes dart over to the patio and see for myself that Ahsoka was right. On the floor near the pillar, was tiny shards of a drinking glass sprayed on the floor and a few tiny splodges of red stained on the stone. I tear my eyes away from the scene and follow Ahsoka until we reach the stone steps, sitting down next to her. She shuffles over to me and rests her chin on her hands propped up on her knees. I run my hands through my hair anxiously as I intake the cool air, trying to calm myself.
"How could this happen, Skyguy. She-she was supposed to be safe. And now we've let something happen to her.. how could I do this to her-" Ahsoka says frantically, her voice wobbling as she starts to hyperventilate a little.
"Hey... Ahsoka this is not your fault. You have barely seen her and we all thought she was safe. I should have stopped her going out alone, but I didn't. If anything Snips, it's my fault," I try to calm my Padawan, resting my hand gently on her back for support. I knew if Obi-Wan saw me now he would give me the 'attachments' lecture, but I didn't care. Ahsoka needed me, and I'll be damned if I won't be there for her.
"Surely we must have sensed something was wrong. How could she just disappear off into the night without us even knowing?"
I chuckle to myself a little, remembering all the times where (y/n) had somehow escaped miraculously from right under my nose. I remembered her first night on Coruscant, the time where I thought she had run off on Naboo, the time where she fled back here to Solaris in an attempt to stop Sarin... I notice Ahsoka raise her eyebrow at me, obviously not appreciating me making light of such a horrible situation.
"She's good that way, I guess."
"But this time.. I don't think she left voluntarily, Master. Obviously becoming Queen was overwhelming for her, but she wouldn't run away from her home after her many efforts to come back here."
I nod at her statement. She has a point... I know (y/n) and this is very unlike her. She was always telling me how much she missed her home, and when she returned she seemed ten times more friendly and affectionate, especially towards me. My stomach churned uneasily at the thought of (y/n) being taken, but the blood splatter and the lightsaber on the patio seemed to unfortunately reinforce Ahsoka's theory.
"I don't know what I'm going to do if something has happened to her-" Ahsoka spoke up again, choking up a little. I rubbed her back softly as she placed her head in her hands again. I frown, knowing I can't take much more of her being in pain. My hand moved to her arms and pulled them from her face, holding her hands in mine as I stare into her watery eyes, a single tear rolling down her cheek.
"We'll find her Snips, I promise."
"But how?" Ahsoka protested pessimistically. I sigh and think to myself, but even I am stumped for ideas.
"I'm not sure, but we will."
I sit back, leaving Ahsoka to have her personal space. I close my eyes shut and try to stop the thoughts racing around in my mind. Once I had finally silenced my brain, I try to take deep breaths and calm myself, knowing that we won't be able to find her if we don't think straight. I continue to take deep breaths until I feel completely at peace with myself, even getting to a point where I was so lost within my mind that I had lost track of my breathing and also forgetting Ahsoka's presence beside me.
Suddenly, I feel a rush through my body and I sense something. Pain, suffering, anger, betrayal, hurt... emotions which somehow weren't coming from me. I concentrated further and continued to feel these emotions through the force, trying desperately to identify their host. Fear, confusion, hopelessness.
I felt these emotions weigh on me, and it was as if I could really experience the same pain this person was in. More emotions came flooding in and in constantly, overwhelming me until suddenly, they all stopped at once.
I heard something.
I'm going to die here.
That.. that sounded like (y/n)'s voice. It couldn't be... could it?
I tried not to break my concentration due to me being so close to reaching her. Once I stabilised my thoughts once more minutes later, I tried to call to her.
A: (y/n)? (y/n) is that you?
Nothing.
A: (y/n)?
Y/N: Anakin?
My eyes shoot open and I turn to Ahsoka, who jumped in alarm. My chest was heaving and my hair was sticking to my forehead from the sweat and exhilaration.
"What is it, Master?"
"I've found her."
Ahsoka's eyes widen in utter disbelief and she shuffles over on the step towards me, "How?"
I shake my head, "I don't know! I heard her voice in my mind! I think I've found her through the force."
"Are you sure you're not hallucinating-"
"No! See for yourself, concentrate and try to call to her."
I watch Ahsoka close her eyes for a few minutes, observing her maintain her steady breathing, feeling her mindfulness. My eyebrows raise and I watch intently as Ahsoka's facial expression change several times within a few seconds. I silently hope I am not crazy as Ahsoka's eyes fly wide open, her chest moving rapidly up and down too.
"(y/n)?" she says out loud and I smile, watching Ahsoka's eyes tear up with happiness, "I heard her Skyguy, I heard her."
I jump up immediately and yank Ahsoka up with me by her arms. She looks at me as though I am crazy as I frantically look around the courtyard.
"Uhhh, Master? What are you doing."
"We have to find her!"
"Master you need to calm down-"
"Ahsoka, no-"
"Anakin, please stop for a moment and think!"
"I have to find her, I love her!"
Damn it.
I watch Ahsoka sigh and direct her eyes to the floor. I felt awful, what must she think of me now that I've told her the truth? Ahsoka then looks me in the eyes, hers gleaming in the starlight and smiles warmly at me, making a smile creep onto my own face.
"I know. Now let's go and bring back my sister."
{ a/n: I'm not sure how I feel about this one, but I hope it wasn't too boring and I hope you like it! Thank you all for the support and ily all <3 }
