TEASER
tw ,, death, blood, gore, battle.
Blood splattered the leaves of the ivy bush where Cloverpool crouched in it's shade, desperately trying to attend to her own wound.
"Cloverpool, get out of there!" A tom snarled, but his large form could not squeeze through the branches.
"I won't!" Cloverpool finished putting a poultice on her injury, just like Goldenbird had shown her, and faced the tom grimly. "It's not my fault the chief and the second in command are both she-cats and they both want the same tom for a mate! I shouldn't be fighting at all! I'm a hunter!"
"It doesn't matter." the tom leered at her, sticking a paw through a gap in the branches, and Cloverpool flinched back as it grazed her side. "Once Palestar's side is defeated, and since I already killed her, it won't matter. Or is it too broad of a topic for you to understand?"
"You killed Palestar?" Cloverpool shrieked, aghast. "How could you! Your own mother?"
"I knew you wouldn't understand," the tom sighed, looking as though he had trapped a juicy piece of fish in between his jaws. "Palestar's side is almost done being defeated by Hawkember. Then, all I have to do is declare she-cats unfit to lead, kill Hawkember, and bam, I get to become the chief of all you puny cats."
Cloverpool's jaw was on the floor. "B-b-but we're not unfit to lead, you're wrong," she spoke, her voice shaking. "My mother was a great second in command. I think she trained you, did she not?"
The tom's yellow eyes flashed. "That carrion shall be forgotten by RiversideClan as long as I live."
"What?!" Cloverpool felt like collapsing. Ever since the war had started, she was feeling lightheaded. "If it wasn't for Deerdusk you would be exiled long before this."
"Do not speak her name," he warned. "she is the one who caused all of this."
Anger rising to the surface, Cloverpool flashed out a paw and sliced it down the tom's chest. His eyes were also lit with rage, perhaps they were equal. But his eyes had a murderous intention.
The tom glanced around. Shrieks of the battle were fading as cats won their own scuffles, then collapsed to the cold ground, some even swept away by the high-tide of the river.
As though declaring it fine, the tom reared up and smashed his forelegs onto the bush. Cloverpool did her best to escape the damage wriggling out of the ivy from the other side and racing through the body-littered battlefield. She was running to the river, she knew she could escape with the river. She was RiversideClan's best hunter by far, she knew how to hold her breath for a couple minutes at a time.
Pants behind her told Cloverpool that she was being chased. Terrified, she streaked down the bank and plunged into the water. A crash behind her sent her into frenzied swimming, and she held her breath and went under.
Down here was her paradise, where she stayed the most. Cloverpool carefully opened her eyes, treading water underwater. A rough and blurry form was swimming lopsidedly torwards her, it was definitely the tom. Cloverpool carefully swam to one side. Her light brown fur was perfectly blending in with the tannish rocks. She turned her head away and closed her eyes as the tom swept past her with rough strokes from his paws. Gleefully she turned away, shot to the surface like a bullet, and breathing in air, hurled herself down the stream.
But something was wrong - something or someone was holding her left hindleg, disabling her from swimming. Cloverpool turned around frenzily and was met by the tom's gaping jaws and long teeth.
"Thought you could escape, Cloverpool?" he crooned, wrapping his claw around her neck.
Cloverpool struggled to breathe, gulping in small portions of air wasn't helping. She tried to kick the tom but missed, and he was soon strangling her. "I'll say you were killed by Palestar," he smirked. "And they'll have to listen to me."
As she sank to the bottom of the river, a gurgle spat out of her throat. "I'll never forget this, Mottlednight."
And as her eyes closed, she thought she heard him laugh. "Oh no, you'll forget quickly. Goodbye, Cloverpool!"
And then life was no more for the brown she-cat.
