"We can do this."

The walls of the maze were covered with ivy, as always, and they were draped across the top. Inside the maze was an eerie feeling, considering the tragic events that had just occurred the night before. Chuck had been running in between Thomas and Aife, the rest of the remaining gladers following directly behind.
"Come on, this way!" Aife shouted, they turned right and began to run down another corridor. They were running at a jog like pace, Aife slightly ran faster, wanting to get it over with.
"Keep it up, guys! We're almost there!" Thomas encouraged their friends, you could hear the panting in between his words from his movements.
Aife was going to turn the corridor, but came to a stop and pressed her back against the wall as she sucked in a sharp breath, her chest slightly heaving. The others followed her movements, "Is it a griever?" Chuck asked her quietly.
She nodded in response to the youngest boy who pinched his eyebrows in worry.
"You take this, Chuck," Minho handed Chuck the device, "Stay behind us."
Chuck shakily took the device from Minho's rough hands and fiddled with it nervously, "It's okay," Teresa told the boy as she tied her black wavy hair up, "Just stick with me."
Aife reached into a bag that a boy named Jeff had been carrying and she smeared her fingers in some of her black paint, she brought her thumb across Teresa's cheeks and dragged them down to her jaw. Teresa grinned at Aife and began to build up confidence at her appearance, even though she couldn't see herself, she hoped she looked like Aife.
"Once we're through, it'll activate, and the door will open," Aife scolded the group quietly in an authoritative tone, "Alright, we stay close, we stick together."
"We get out now... or we die trying." Thomas said to them. The gladers listened intently with wide, determined eyes.
"Ready?" Aife questioned, in response, everyone slammed their large wooden sticks on the ground and Minho took out a machete, "Alright. Let's go!" She cried. Aife waved her katana in the air as he shouted and tilted her head up encouraging the others to do the same. They began to shout loudly as they ran towards the griever with their spear shaped sticks pointed at the beast.
The griever shrieked and began to run towards them, its tail, or stinger, was waved in the air as it pounded at them. The group of kids pushed the griever off to the side, causing its leg to scratch the concrete as it tried to steady itself and keep itself from rolling off of the cliff. It clawed its way back up and shrieked in their faces, causing Aife to clench her jaw, "Push it!"
The griever stood taller and waved its claw around as it stomped harder with its metallic legs. It knocked over a couple of boys that were standing in the back and it grabbed one, Mike, then threw him over the cliff. The boy anxiously gripped at the sides of the wall, but it was too late. He was already falling off the sides.
Thomas watched in shock at his fallen friend, then it turned to anger. The griever stomped its leg into the concrete right in front of Teresa's face, creating a dent, she grunted furiously and hit the leg with her machete, causing it to jump back slightly. Chuck was pushed to the ground by its leg, the key flew to the edge of the wall and was inches from flying off. "The key!" The chubby boy shouted.
"Chuck!" Aife watched in alarm as Teresa began to shout at him, "Watch the edge." Chuck slid on his stomach and grabbed the key just as it fell over the edge, half of his body was dangling, he froze when he heard a growl erupt from the darkness of the cliff and watched as a shadow appeared, clawing its way up.
"Oh, no." The boy gaped as his cheeks began to flush red. "Pull me up, pull me up!" He waved his hands frantically as Teresa gripped onto the boy and pulled him back steadily, "I got you, chuck."
The rest of the gladers were still attempting to push the griever off the cliff, but it wouldn't budge, "Come on!" Aife shouted, the gladers pushed ten times harder at the beast, Aife gritted her teeth angrily as she gave it one last push, and it slid off the side of the wall. The boys let out a cheer of joy, but it was stopped shortly when two more grievers climb their was up the wall and began to chase Chuck and Teresa.
"They're coming!" Chuck shouted, Aife turned to see him running towards her frantically, causing her eyes to widen and let out a sharp exhale.
Together, Aife and Minho charged at one griever while Thomas and Frypan charged at the other. The rest of the gladers joined in, Teresa and Chuck ran towards the wall and the device opened up the passage way, causing Chuck to cheer in relief, "It worked!"
"Go!" Thomas shouted at the two, they didn't need to be told twice, they ducked under the opening wall, not wanting to wait any longer, and ran further.
"Come on, keep pushing!" Minho shouted at the boys who simply responded by doing as told.
"Stay together!" Newt yelled out.
"It won't open!" Chuck cried out at no one particular as he watched the wall flash a bright red. When they turned around, they were greeted with the sight of another glader being flung off the cliff.
"Guys, What's the code? Eight numbers!" Teresa shouted at them while panting heavily.
"Hey, Minho! What's the sequence!" Thomas shouted as he continued to fight off the grievers.
Aife could feel beaded sweat gathering on her forehead and at her hairline. But she paid no mind, she only grunted and fought harder.
"What?!" Minho cried, clearly not understanding. They were slowly making their way towards Teresa and chuck, so that when the time comes, they could quickly run off in time.
"What's the sequence, Shank!" Aife yelled at the asian boy.
"One! Five! Two! uh, Six! Four!" He began to shout, Newt looked up worriedly and shouted in panic as he caught sight of a griever falling over the wall, directly onto them, "Look out!"
Everyone dispersed and the griever fell onto the asian boy, shrieking in his face. Minho had his stick pressed up against its neck, keeping it from tearing into his flesh. The boys watched in shock.
Aife, without hesitation, ran towards the beast, shouting angrily at it, "Get off of my best friend!" She stabbed it in the side. Jeff, following in her footsteps, stabbed the stick into its mouth to get it off of Minho, who began to crawl away from the slimy monster. The griever spat out the stick and clamped its yellow rotten teeth around Jeff's stomach, his head lolled back and he let out a cry as it but into his flesh harder and harder.
"Jeff!" Winston shouted for his best friend, he tried to run forward, but Frypan gripped onto the boy. The griever dragged the boy, who was now limp, away from the others.
The gladers began to shout as the two remaining beasts stepped closer, Minho then continued to shout the sequence, " Uh, Six! Four! Eight! Three! You got it?" He yelled out. Newts stick broke in half, causing his eyes to widen.
Teresa shouted proudly in response when the once red light flashed green and read 'complete'.
The three slabs of concrete began to fall once again, blocking out the grievers one by one, there was a remaining griever who shrieked in panic as it was getting trapped, he roared at the gladers, but was cut off when Aife gripped onto Thomas's stick and launched it into the mouth of the beast.
The monster momentarily cowered back and the slab of concrete slammed into it, crushing it to death. Green liquid and chunks spewed out, causing Aife to grimace. She leaned into Minho's ear and jokingly commented, "Damn, there goes you're hair gel."
He quickly swatted her away, "Shh, you said you wouldn't tell anyone."
They let out sighs of relief and began panting to catch their breath, they let out a shout of panic when the last passage swirled shut, leaving them in the darkness.
There was a loud bang and a sliver of light made an appearance, the large door opened itself up, leaving the teenagers to stand there in shock.
Then, they walked forward.
