Aife stared at Minho and fought off the urge to bash his head into the wall until he bleeds. Shes not worried about herself one bit, shes worried for them. Minho's been in the maze before, yeah. But he hasn't lasted a night. She has, only, she's not sure she can last another.
She looked at their surroundings and let out a shaky breath. The floor seemed to be glistening its normal shade, like as if slippery. The ivy on the walls ran through the small cracks and reached the floors, but not the top.
"What happened to em'?" Thomas asked him as he observed how Alby looked injured. She squinted her eyes at the shanks stupidity. Sometimes, she tends to get snappy in situations like these, It's life or death.
"He was stung." Minho panted as he stood up with her help. She let him go and let out a shaky breath as her eyes fluttered shut, trying to come up with a plan.
"What happened to his head," Thomas pointed to the bloody spot on Albys head, she looked at Minho and automatically knew what had happened. The bloody bump on his head was pretty self explanatory.
"He did what he needed to do." Aife defended the boy.
"Come on, we gotta go. Now." Minho said suddenly as he stood up, the girl felt her heart break at the words she just heard, "We can't just leave him, Minho. He's family."
She protested as she dragged Alby's limp body to lean against the wall. All that was to be heard was the panicked arguments between Thomas, and Minho and Aife grew sick of it, "Shut the hell up, we've got more important problems to deal with in case you shuck-faces haven't noticed."
Aife looked up only to be met with Minho having his hands around then greenies collar and shoving him against the wall. She cocked up an eyebrow and looked at them skeptically, "The vines."
Minho dropped Thomas's shirt and looked at the girl incredulously, "Yeah? What about em' ?"
"We tie up Alby and we come back for him later."
"She's got a point. That could work." Thomas agreed with her and she gave him a thankful nod, which he returned.
"We can't come back, because we're gonna die. We can't come out of this." Minho snapped as he ran a hand through his perfect hero hair.
Not lookin' so hero now are you Minho?
"Not with that attitude you can't. Some positive shank you are." She mumbled sarcastically, causing him to send a glare her way.
"Just- Just help us string him up." Thomas shakily dragged Alby to the Vines and tugged on one to make sure it was sturdy enough to hold his weight.
He sent a nod her way and she returned it as she began to tie the Vines around Albys waist. They began to string him up and all that was heard was their comments to encourage each other to keep going.
That was, until we heard a bone shattering sound. It sent chills down their spines when it filled their ears.
Griever.
She heard the scraping of its metal legs that drag against the wall and concrete.
Whirrrr. Click. Whirrr. Click.
Minho's hands started to shake as he peaked over the corner to check how close the griever was to ripping them to shreds. She felt beads of sweat drip down the sides of her face, her nerves were shooting terribly.
"Come on, just a little more. We got it." Aife gave a small, shaky smile as she watched Minho become more fearful of the entire situation. Another loud shriek bounced off the walls of the maze and reached their ears, she got goosebumps on her arms at the horrid sound.
Minho peeked over the wall and met eyes with the Griever, he turned to the both of them and gave an apologetic smile.
"I'm sorry greenie. Come on, Aife we gotta go! Now!" He whisper yelled as he grabbed a hold of the girls wrists in an attempt to take her with him, but she fought back. She nodded her head towards him as reassurance, "Go, i'll catch up."
He whimpered before he turned around and quickly ran off down the corridor. She felt her hands begin to shake as her heart thumped harder against her chest. I can run, but this greenie better not hold me back, She thought to herself.
"That's good, that's good." He nodded as they tied him up, the griever was getting closer and closer. Aife looked towards him as he pointed to a spot that was hidden with ivy. It was small, but it was good enough.
He shoved her onto the floor and made sure she was fully in before he went in after her. Once they were settled, she was on her back and he had his arms on both sides of her head to hold himself up. Her hand was rested on his bicep as she gripped it tightly. He was fiddling with a strand of the girls long hair to try and calm his nerves, but she didn't care.
She looked at him with wide eyes and tried to steady her breathing. He shook his head and put a hand over her mouth to quiet her, she did the same back. The feeling of his body against hers made her heart beat even faster if possible, they were both releasing shaky breaths. The girl looked to her left and saw the grievers legs slowly, and loudly stalking by them.
Waiting for them to make the wrong move.
You could hear the deafening growls coming from the beast.
Aife released a shaky breath once he pulled his hand away. She nodded at him as she peeked her head out to check if they were in the clear.
The boy and the girl both shuffled out of the small space and stood as they made sure Albys vine was tightened before they ran off.
"Come on," He scolded a little too loudly, she could hear the griever stepping back towards them. She grabbed him by the collar and quickly dragged him, pushed him to the wall. The two steadied their breathing as the griever let out a huff and walked away. His purrs and metallic legs scratching against the floor.
She grabbed his hand and ran to the other end of the corridor where they stopped and looked at each other to try and figure out which way they should go to avoid getting killed.
She was opening her mouth to speak when she got an uneasy feeling. He gave the shorter girl a questioning look when she pointed to his shoulder and the slimy, unknown liquid that dropped down on it. She slowly looked up and her breathing hitched so quickly to the point that it almost stopped.
She pulled him back and he tripped over his own feet while he tried to run. The griever was standing on the walls, right over the two teens. He jumped down and let out a shriek. His yellow sharp teeth and the mouth with strands of Saliva were full on display. He had hair on his back that shook as well as his body from the chilling roar he let out.
"Thomas, Run!"
Aife grabbed her machete from the holder on her back and sliced the grievers face with it, that slowed him down.
But that also made him angry.
Thomas yelped as he ran away and she quickly followed after him. Quickly turning the corners of the corridor to escape the beast had adrenaline pumping through her body. She barely had time to think about what she would do when things go south.
Which they already have.
Thomas turned the corner and she was quick to shout, "No! That's a dead end!"
But she followed anyways. She couldn't leave him.
He shuddered and stepped nervously on his left and right food as he began to curse at the fact that they had no where else to go.
"Oh shit!"
The sound of a griever leaping towards them cut him off. She quickly leaped onto the walls that held ivy and began to climb, she heard his footsteps following her.
but also the grievers.
The girl rolled over the top and gave Thomas a hand to drag him up. They started to run and there was a small gap between the wall they were on and the next one. They didn't hesitate. They both jumped.
Their arms flailing in the air as they balanced Themselves. The grievers body stomped harshly after them as they ran further. When they turned the corner, still walking on top of the walls, they came to yet another dead end.
The wall in front of them was at least ten feet away and the griever was right up behind the two. Thomas made an attempt to run back where he came from, but the griever stopped him from doing so.
"Jump!"
She gave him a nod as the took a few steps back, the two both ran at full speed and jumped off the wall, through the air and onto the ivy. Their hands caught them and held them upright as Thomas let out a yelp when he landed.
The griever didn't hesitate to jump after them. His body landed right on hers, each of his legs cornering the girl to stay put. His stinger lunged at her face but she quickly moved her head, causing him to lunge into the wall instead. Thomas tried to climb down but the griever opened up its mouth and caught him by the shirt as he fell to the floor, dragging both of them along with him.
They fell and were entangled by the ivy but she cut herself loose with her machete and then Thomas. They ran but turned around to look back if they were in the clear.
The griever found himself stuck, he couldn't move.
She let a chilling grin spread across her face as she watched it struggle to set itself free. Suddenly, the girl felt a hand lunge towards her and looked to find Minho cupping the sides of her head as he frantically looked her up and down for any injuries, which she had none.
"You're a crazy son of a bitch! You know-" Minho was cut off by another shriek of the griever. He pulled her hand and dragged the girl with him with him as Thomas followed.
"Come on. Follow me, come on!"
The trio ran further down another corridor and came to a stop when they heard the familiar noises of the maze. Changing.
"Quick. This section is changing come on, come on." Minho panted and ran. Thomas was about to follow him down to the other end but him and Aife stayed put. They bounced back and forth on her feet as she watched the griever run towards her.
"Thomas!"
"Aife?!"
"Run!"
They ignored Minho, she began to shout at the griever as it ran faster and faster.
The door closing made her heart beat quickly, if this doesn't work, she'll most likely be dead. Thomas squeezed her hand three times for reassurance and she squeezed it back, but only she squeezed his four times.
"Come on! You want me, come and get me!" The females voice was hoarse yet sharp as she shouted at the beast. The griever shrieked and she started to run down the corridor, the door closing in on her. As the walls shrunk down, the griever forced himself to walk on the sides just to keep moving. Her heart was growing tight as it was harder to catch her breath.
"Come on! You got it!"
She panted heavily as the figure appeared closer and closer.
"Come on, Aife. You got it!" The tall raven haired boy said to the tanned girl. He sent her an encouraging smile that made her keep going. Like as if a flame was sparked within her.
He is her flame.
She is his flame.
"I did it!" The little girl cheered.
She pushed herself further and further until she launched herself onto the floor, Thomas landing on top of her, the griever let out one last shriek before the walls slammed it together.
Boom.
"Well damn, his fight is over."
