3rd Person's POV
Banner continuously scans with a gamma ray detection scanner on the scepter for radiation. Tony looks at his monitors, shifting and solving as many algorithms and equations. While Dylann lays upside down in a chair nearby humming to herself.
Banner pushes his glasses up on his face, "The gamma readings are definitely consistent with Selvig's reports on the Tesseract. But it's gonna take weeks to process."
Tony waves his hands as if saying oh no it won't.
"If we bypass their mainframe and direct a reroute to the Homer cluster, we can clock this around six hundred teraflops."
"All I packed was a tooth brush.
Tony smiles, "You know, you should come by Stark towers sometime. Top ten floors, all R&D."
Dylann nods still upside down, "You'd love it, it's candy land."
Banner frowns, "Thanks, but the last time I was in New York I kind of broke... Harlem."
"Well, I promise a stress free environment. No tension. No surprises."
Suddenly, Tony pokes Banner with a miniature electrical prod. Steve walks in on them, pissed at Tony.
"OW!"
Tony looks at Banner closely, "Nothing?"
Steve frowns, "Hey! Are you nuts?"
Tony ignores him, "You really have got a lid on it, haven't you? What's your secret? Mellow jazz? Bongo drums? Huge bag of weed?"
Dylann snickers from the chair as she sits right side up.
Steve shakes his head at Tony, "Is everything a joke to you?"
Tony shrugs, "Funny things are."
"Threatening the safety of everyone on this ship isn't funny. No offense, doctor."
"No, it's alright. I wouldn't have come aboard if I couldn't handle pointy things."
Tony smirks, "You're tiptoeing, big man. You need to strut."
Steve's face turns red with anger, "And you need to focus on the problem, Mr. Stark."
Tony scoffs, "You think I'm not? Why did Fury call us and why now? Why not before? What isn't he telling us? I can't do the equation unless I have all the variables."
Steve frowns, "You think Fury's hiding something?"
"He's a spy. Captain, he's the spy. His secrets have secrets." Tony points over to Banner, "It's bugging him too, isn't it?"
Banner bobbles on his words, "Uh...I just wanna finish my work here and..."
Steve replies, "Doctor?"
Banner sighs beat, "A warm light for all mankind, Loki's jab at Fury about the cube."
Steve nods, "I heard it."
"Well, I think that was meant for you. Even if Barton didn't post that all over the news." Banner says pointing at Tony.
"The Stark Tower? That big ugly-"
Two throats clear making Steve glance up at two frowning Starks, "...building in New York?"
Banner nods, "It's powered by Stark Reactors, self- sustaining energy source. That building will run itself for what, a year?"
Tony shakes his head, "That's just the prototype. I'm kind of the only name in clean energy right now."
"So, why didn't SHIELD bring him in on the Tesseract project? I mean, what are they doing in the energy business in the first place?"
"I should probably look into that once my decryption programmer finishes breaking into all of SHIELD's secure files-"
Steve looks taken aback as he interrupts, "I'm sorry, did you say...?"
"Jarvis has been running it since I hit the bridge. In a few hours, we'll know every dirty secret SHIELD has ever tried to hide."
Tony smirks as he holds out a bag of blueberries, "Blueberry?"
Dylann giggles slightly at Tony's immaturity and gets up to walk over to him. She grabs a handful of blueberries and sits on the counter behind him. Steve frowns for a second as he glances up at Dylann then at Tony.
"Yet you're confused about why they didn't want you around?"
"An intelligence organization that fears intelligence? Historically, not possible."
"I think Loki's trying to wind us up. This is a man who means to start a war, and if don't stay focused, he'll succeed. We have orders, we should follow them."
Tony shrugs as he tosses a blueberry into his mouth, "Following is not really my style."
Steve smiles, "And you're all about style, aren't you?"
Tony frowns. Apparently that hit a nerve. Dylann shakes her head as she realizes that the two are about to argue.
"Of the people in this room, which one is; A. wearing a spangly outfit, and B. not of use?"
Dylann hits Tony with her arm. He says ow but doesn't look at her.
Banner shrugs as he looks at Steve, "Steve, tell me none of this smells a little funky to you?"
Steve takes in the possibility, but as an obedient soldier, shakes it off.
"Just find the cube."
Steve walks out of the lab. Still torn apart by the possibility, he walks away, towards the hull of the ship.
Dylann frowns sadly as she watches Steve leave, "Tony why do you have to be so rude? He's nice."
Tony frowns as he looks back at Dylann, "Um no he isn't."
Tony looks back at Banner and scoffs, "That's the guy my dad never shut up about? Wondering if they shouldn't have kept him on ice."
Dylann kicks Tony in the butt making him glare at her for a second.
"What the heck Dylann?"
"That was mean. Now I'm going to go find him and apologize for you since you're too much of a Stark to realize when you've done something wrong."
Tony goes to tell her he's sorry but it's too late she's already out the lab trying to find the Capsicle.
Banner glances over at Tony, "The guy's not wrong about Loki. He does have the jump on us."
"What he's got is an ACME dynamite kit. It's gonna blow up in his face, and I'm gonna be there when it does."
"And I'll read all about it."
Tony shakes his head, "Uh-huh. Or you'll be suiting up like the rest of us."
"Ah, see. I don't get a suit of armor. I'm exposed, like a nerve. It's a nightmare."
Banner and Stark get back to work at their respective computers.
========================================================================
Dylann hurries and tries to catch up with Steve. For some reason he was going to the hull of the ship. She wasn't exactly sure why but she would find out soon.
As she sees a head of blonde hair she yells, "Wait."
Steve turns around and sees the beautiful Dylann Stark.
"Yes Dylann?"
"Look I'm sorry about my brother. He's an asshole someti... well most of the time. But he does mean well. I promise."
Steve smiles at her. It had felt like he was back in the forties with Sammie Todd but sadly he wasn't.
"It's fine Dylann. Thank you for apologizing."
Dylann nods then looks at the door Steve had just been trying to open, "So what're you up to?"
Steve frowns, "I guess I kind of feel like what your brother was explaining. I'm curious. Are they telling the truth?"
"I don't know Mr. Rogers but just be careful."
Steve smiles a little as he chuckles to himself, "Dylann you can call me Steve. Just Steve is fine."
Dylann laughs, "Okay sounds good! Sorry I'm sure Mr. Rogers makes it sound like you're kind of old."
"Just a little bit." Steve smiles.
Dylann nods and then turns to walk away. Before she can take another step Steve grabs her wrist lightly. A small spark flies through her body.
"Hey I uh forgot to give you this. I saw it on the table and everyone said it was yours." Steve tells a small little lie just to make sure that he wasn't going crazy.
He needed some answers.
Dylann's eyes light up as she looks at the ring in Steve's hand.
"Oh my goodness!! Thank you so much Steve! I though I had lost it. Welp you saved me a breakdown."
Steve smiles while looking at her glowing face, "No problem... It's a beautiful ring. Where'd you get it?"
Dylann looks up at him and smiles then looks back down at the ring. Her eyes twinkle a bit as she twist the ring onto her finger.
"Um I don't know. Tony told me that the ring was given to me by an ex-lover of mine."
Steve frowns slightly as his brain gears start to twist and turn, "What happened? Why is he an ex?"
"Oh um apparently we were in some kind of accident. I got amnesia and my ex-lover died. I don't know anything about it so I couldn't tell ya."
Steve's head starts to hurt as he thinks about all the possibilities of Dylann Stark being Sammie Todd.
"Wow um that is crazy. I'm so sorry. Do you remember anything about him at all?"
Dylann frowns while holding her head, "Um no I wish I did. All I remember is things that I dream about. Like for some weird reason I dreamed of my father and this gorgeous Agent... what was her name... Peggy... and myself. It really freaked me out. Must have been a past life or something like that. But I'm kinda feeling a little sick so I'm gonna go lie down."
Steve doesn't say anything he just nods with his mouth open as he watches Dylann walk away. As she disappears behind the corner Steve punches the wall.
Someone has some explaining to do.
