The Talk 2
3rd Person's POV
After their meeting is over Sitwell walks out of the building with Senator Stern.
"Listen, I gotta fly home tonight, cause uh... I got some constituency problem, and I gotta press the flesh."
"Any constituent in particular, Mr. Senator?"
Senator Stern frowns, "Uh... no, not really. Twenty-three, kind of hot. Real hot. You know, wants to be a reporter, I think. I don't know, who listens at that point?"
"Doesn't sound much of a problem to me."
"Really? Cause she's killing my back. Look, this isn't the place to talk about it," He touches Sitwell's pin on his jacket, "This is a nice pin."
"Thank you."
"Come here."
They embrace and as they do Stern whispers to Sitwell, "Hail, HYDRA."
As Stern walks away, Sitwell gets a call from Pierce. He turns to his men, "I need a minute. Bring the car around."
Once his men leave and Sitwell answers the phone, "Yes, sir?"
"Agent Sitwell, how was lunch? I hear the crab cakes here are delicious."
Sitwell frowns confused, "Who is this?"
"The good looking guy in the sunglasses, your ten o'clock."
Sitwell looks around but doesn't see him, "Your other ten o'clock."
Sitwell turns the other way and sees Sam sitting a few feet away from him, "There you go."
"What do you want?"
Sam shrugs, "You're gonna go around the corner, to your right. There's a grey car, two spaces down. You and I are gonna take a ride."
Sitwell laughs unamused, "And why would I do that?"
"Because that tie looks really expensive, and we'd hate to mess it up."
Sitwell looks down at his tie and sees a small red light from a gun being pointed at him. He looks up and suddenly notices Sammie Dylann Todd sitting on a bench on the other side of the road holding the gun that's pointed towards him. She smiles and waves making Sitwell sigh and nod his head.
Steve throws Sitwell across a rooftop, Natasha follows behind him.
"Tell me about Zola's algorithm."
Sitwell laughs as he picks himself up, "Never heard of it."
"What were you doing on the Lemurian Star?"
"I was throwing up, I get seasick."
Steve forces Sitwell to the edge of the rooftop, Sitwell just smiles, "Is this little display meant to insinuate that you're gonna throw me off the roof? Because it's really not your style, Rogers."
Steve shrugs, "You're right. It's not. It's hers."
Steve steps aside and Natasha kicks Sitwell off the roof, he plummets down screaming.
Natasha turns to Steve smirking, "Oh, wait. What about that girl from accounting, Laura...?"
Steve frowns, "Lillian. Lip piercing, right?"
"Yeah, she's cute."
"Yeah, I'm not ready for that. And still not interested..."
Natasha sighs in anger, "Well then talk to her and fix it."
She points over towards Sammie who is sitting on the edge of the building with her legs dangling off. She sits in silence just watching the cars drive by not even noticing the others. Steve opens his mouth to reply but suddenly, Sam, in his Falcon jet-pack suit with wings, flies up holding Sitwell and throws him down on the roof. Steve and Natasha walk towards Sitwell, he holds his hand up in fear.
"Zola's algorithm is a program...for choosing Insight's targets!"
"What targets?" Steve asks angrily.
"You! A TV anchor in Cairo, the Undersecretary of Defense, a high school valedictorian in Iowa city. Bruce Banner, Stephen Strange, Sammie Todd, anyone who's a threat to HYDRA! Now, or in the future."
Steve glances over at Sammie who had still not moved a muscle then back at Sitwell, "The Future? How could it know?"
Sitwell laughs, "How could it not? The 21st century is a digital book. Zola taught HYDRA how to read it."
Steve and Natasha look at him in confusion, "Your bank records, medical histories, voting patterns, e-mails, phone calls, your damn SAT scores. Zola's algorithm evaluates people's past to predict their future."
"And what then?"
Sitwell shakes his head, "Oh, my God. Pierce is gonna kill me."
"What then?!"
"Then the Insight Helicarriers scratch people off the list. A few million at a time."
"Well then we need to stop them before they do." Natasha says picking up Sitwell from the ground and pushing him to the stairs.
Sam follows after her and then Steve tries to but is stopped by Sam. Sam puts his hand on Steve's chest making him stop walking and nods over to Sammie, "Talk."
He turns around and follows Natasha and Sitwell downstairs with one more glance at Steve. Steve sighs as he looks up at the sky then decides to stop being a child and talk to Sammie. The only way they would get through this is to talk. He walks over to her and sits beside her on the edge of the building.
"Uh hey can I uh talk to you?"
Sammie nods, "You are now..."
Steve frowns a little looking over at her but she continues to stare at the road.
"So uh I just wanted to say that I'm-"
Sammie's head quickly snaps to the side and her hand covers his mouth, "Don't apologize to me... Don't you dare. You have nothing absolutely nothing to apologize for. I'm the one who ran away... and hurt you... don't take the blame for anything..."
Steve watches as Sammie's eyes start to water, "Since I was a little girl I had always known what kind of guy I wanted. I wanted someone who was strong, and smart, and a gentleman... I went through a good bit of guys quite the opposite of that... then you show up and you're... perfect. Although some would say the downside was that you were short and small but no to me you were everything that I asked for. Then you turned into Captain America the super soldier and you were actually perfect. I wouldn't be surprised if you were really taken right now... you're too good for me and we both know that..."
Steve frowns and moves Sammie's hand from his face. He holds her hand tightly in between his two as he looks intensely at her.
"Sammie you are not too good for me. When I first saw you that's the first thought that popped up into my head. But you are perfect for me. You're sweet, genuine, sassy, fun, way too intelligent for your own good... you're everything I never asked for but found out that I needed. I thought about you every day every second that you were gone Sam... why'd you leave? Tony told me what happened to him a few years ago and what you did to me is nothing in comparison."
"I was scared... I hurt you in New York... I caused so much destruction when I wasn't in control of my powers. I still am scared... I'm scared I'm going to kill someone I care about... I'm scared I'll lose control again and it will be worse this time."
"Sam I could've helped you... I love you Sammie. I would've done anything I could to make sure that you were okay."
Tears start to roll down Sammie's face as she moves her hands out of Steve's and turns her whole body towards him, "You don't get it! I can't do this without you! I can't live without you Steve... When you crashed the plane I kept forgetting that you died, I had to live through that over and over again... through everyone reminding me that you weren't there anymore... A-after I was assaulted I forgot again... I even saw you in the mirror behind me but you weren't actually there."
Sammie looks out to the sky with her body still turned towards Steve, "I tried to kill myself... I love you more than anything. You're my person... when I saw you lying on the ground in your apartment in pain because of me I just couldn't take it. If I was to ever lose control and kill you I would never ever ever in a million years forgive myself. I don't want to lose you again... but if not being near you means you're safe from me then so be it. That's why I left and I'm sorry. God I'm so freaking sorry Steve. I didn't mean to hurt you and I'm an asshole for doing that to you but I love you so much-"
Sammie is cut off by Steve's lips connecting to hers. Together their warm lips move in sync making more tears roll down Sammie's face. Steve holds Sammie's face with his hands while kissing her so intensely and so passionately. Sammie sighs in contentment as the kiss grows deeper. Steve wipes the tears from Sammie's cheeks with his thumbs as he gracefully moves them to the roof off the edge. Sammie falls back with Steve's body in between her legs. They hug tightly neither of them wanting to let go.
"God I love you Sammie. So much."
Steve repeats this over and over as he kisses her head. Sammie smiles into his chest and lifts her head to kiss his nose.
"Love you more."
Steve shakes his head, "Not possible."
The two stay entangled for another minute then realize that they have to yet again go save the world. Steve groans upset as he pecks her lips once more then moves off Sammie. He helps her up as she tries to catch her breath and fix her clothes. Looking at her with intense eyes he kisses her forehead once more then grabs Sammie's hand to see that the ring he had given her years ago was still on it. He kisses her knuckles making her smile and gently squeeze his hand as if understanding how much it meant to him that she had never given up on him.
