Start of Something New

3rd Person's POV

"So how are we here right now?"

Sammie smiles lightly looking over at Steve. He happened to be a tiny bit shorter than her but it didn't bother her a tad.

"Well I asked Abe and gave him the puppy dog eyes. Hook line and sinker. He said that as long as we were back before 9 it would be fine. I told Peggy and she said if we weren't back she would come running and tearing down buildings."

"Wow... thanks for inviting me."

Steve looks up at Sammie as they walk down the lit up town. Sammie thought a night out away from everyone and everything would be best for Steve. Less stress and less fret over the program.

"Of course! There was no better choice Steven."

Steve's cheeks tinge pink as Sammie giggles looking at him.

"Oh please you could've taken someone like Hodge. He seems like he's anyone's type."

Sammie frowns and stops walking. She looks at Steve then holds his hand and pulls him over to a nearby bench.

"Hodge is no ones type. He is rude and a narcissistic asshole. He's definitely not my type. I'm the kind of person that doesn't base my feelings off of looks. I like to get to know someone before I judge them."

Steve looks at Sammie in shock then looks away and nods.

"I wish more people were like you."

"Hey." She grabs Steve's arm lightly making him look at her, "Erskine is like me. And look at you... here you are. Living out a dream of yours. I wish everyone was as welcoming as us but that's life. People like you, people don't. But as long as you have that one person that gives you a chance then rejection is a blessing. It's a lesson, it teaches you patience and it makes you grow as a person. And you Steve Rogers are the perfect example of a great man who has gone through rejection, and because of it, you have been made stronger and stronger. That's something that not everyone can do. You're a special guy Steve."

Sammie smiles as she squeezes Steve's hand. Steve starts to breathe quicker in worry as Sammie leans closer to him. She pulls him into a hug for a second then pulls away.

She sits back and smiles at him with a bright smile. Steve loved to look at her, she was a light and she was perfect. He felt butterflies in his stomach. Of course he had a little crush on her, but she would never fall for him. Life doesn't work that way. The good guy never gets the girl.

"That dork actually thinks that someone that hot likes him."

Sammie frowns and looks over to see a trio of guys coming out the bar across the street.

"Ugh let's go Steve."

Sammie pulls Steve down the street. She's seething with anger as she turns around to see the group of guys still following them. The group whistles and cat calls at her loudly, right on their heels.

"Woah baby where you going?"

"Yeah babe you are gorgeous."

"You'd rather spend your night with a boy than with a man?"

Sammie quickly turns around and crosses her arms over her chest, "I don't see men! I see little boys with little egos... and probably other little things too."

The guys glare as she looks down at their crotches. Steve frowns in worry seeing anger appear on the guys' faces.

"Sammie ignore them... let's go."

Sammie looks over at Steve as he whispers to her then sighs and nods. She lets him drag her away but the next thing said makes her stop dead in her tracks.

"Stupid bitch don't walk away from us. We will destroy you and your little sidekick."

"Fuck you asshole!"

Steve groans as Sammie holds up a finger to the group. He knew she had anger problems but he was actually surprised she held her composure for so long.

The group of guys make their way to the two and start cracking their knuckles.

"You wanna go bitch?"

"You wanna fight a girl asshole?!"

"Oh no we're gonna kick his ass."

Just as those words leave his mouth the group starts to dive on Steve. Sammie frowns and starts to yell at the guys.

"What the hell?! Help! Someone help!"

Sammie tries to pull the guys away but they're too strong. She sees Steve fighting back and not giving up as the assholes team up on him.

Steve manages to knock one down and Sammie kicks one in the back of the knee making him drop the the ground. Sammie kicks him in the gut until he stops trying to get up. The guy Steve knocked to the ground had actually been knocked out cold. The one leader guy was still fighting Steve and Sammie could tell Steve was getting tired.

Quickly, Sammie leaps up with a war cry and jumps on the guys back. She holds his neck in a chokehold tightly. The guy slams his fist into Steve's face making Steve fall to the ground instantly. Sammie growls in anger and tightens her grip on his throat. The guy tries to pry her arms off his neck but has no luck. He falls down to his knees trying to breathe. Sammie quickly jumps off of him and moves in front of him. She lifts her leg up and swings it right to his baby maker.

The guy squeals in pain as his hands instantly go to his crotch. Then Sammie pulls back her right hand and balls it into a fist. She swings it forward, bringing it straight into the guys nose. She screams in pain as she feels a crack and the guy too. The guy lays on the ground holding his crotch and bloody nose.

Tears form in Sammie's eyes as her hand starts to swell and turn purple. She hurries over to Steve who groans holding his eye. A black eye has already formed making Sammie feel horrible.

"Steve! Oh my gosh I'm so sorry! I didn't mean for this to happen! It's all my fault!"

Steve shakes his head as Sammie cries looking at him.

"No Sam it's not not. I'm okay I promise."

"But-"

"No I swear it's okay."

Suddenly they both go silent as three figures hover over them. Thinking the worst Sammie curses and looks up but then smiles.

"Can you two not go one day without getting into trouble?"

Sammie helps up Steve as Peggy walks over. The two soldiers that were with her threaten the three men who quickly run away like little babies.

"Hey it wasn't our fault."

"Come on let's get you two checked out." Peggy shakes her head with a small frown.

The two soldiers lead Peggy, Steve, and Sammie to a black SUV then open the doors to let them in. Peggy's sits on the left side with Sammie in the middle and Steve on her right side.

As the car starts to drive away, Steve looks over at Sammie's swollen hand and carefully holds it in his.

"How'd this happen?"

"I punched that jerk. His face was really hard..."

Steve smiles lightly as Sammie jokes with a smirk.

"Well I think it may have been because you punched wrong."

"What do you mean?" Sammie frowns looking at her hand.

Peggy glances over at the two with a small smile then looks back out the window.

Steve points to her thumb which is more bruised than all Sammie's other fingers.

"Alright show me how you closed your hand to make a fist."

Sammie holds up her left hand easily and closes her hand with her thumb locked inside the others. Steve nods.

"Well that's the problem Sam. You can't put your thumb inside your hand when making a fist. It has to sit outside your fist. If not you break it... which is what probably happened."

"Oh... that makes sense."

Steve looks at Sammie in shock as he sees her blush for second time.

"I've never fought anyone before. Never had to. I threaten but never actually am involved in an altercation."

"Well you can check today off your bucket list."

Sammie laughs then smiles lightly as she lifts her swollen hand to his black eye.

They both flinch and say ow as her hand makes contact with his face. Smiling she puts her hand back down and looks down. Steve looks over at her then out the window.

The night had not been what they had in mind but it definitely brought them a little closer.
