Reunited
3rd Person's POV
Star-Lord has Peter Parker in a head-lock, while Iron Man stands over Drax with a gun, and Doctor Strange stands ready near Mantis.
Quill looks around before powering off his helmet, "Everybody stay where you are. Chill F out. I'm gonna ask you this one time. Where's Gamora?"
Tony scoffs, "yeah, I'll do you one better. Who's Gamora?"
"I'll do you one better!" Draco retorts, "Why is Gamora?"
Quill rolls his eyes before glaring at Tony, "Tell me where the girl is, or I swear to you, I'm gonna French fry this little freak."
Tony chuckles extending his nanotechnology gun to Drax, "Let's do it! You shoot my guy, I blast him. Let's go!"
"Do it, Quill! I can take it." Drax nods excitingly.
Mantis frowns shaking her head, "No he can't take it!"
Strange shrugs, "She's right. You can't."
"Oh yeah? You don't wanna tell me where she is? That's fine. I'll kill all three of you and beat it out of Thanos myself." Quill turns to Peter, "Starting with you."
Strange holds up his hand silencing Quill, "Wait, what, Thanos? All right, let me ask you this one time. What master do you serve?"
Quill scoffs, "What master do I serve? What am I supposed to say? 'Jesus'?"
Tony drops his gun annoyed, "You're from Earth?"
"I'm not from Earth. I'm from Missouri."
Tony rolls his eyes, "Yeah, that's on Earth dip-shit. What are you hassling us for?"
Peter frowns still confused, "So, you're not with Thanos?"
"With Thanos?" Quill scoffs, "No, I'm here to kill Thanos. He took my girl- Wait, who are you?"
"We're the Avengers, man." Peter grins.
"Oh."
Mantis smiles, "You're the ones Thor told us about."
Tony holds up a finger interrupting, "You know Thor?"
"Yeah. Tall guy, not the good-looking, needed saving." Quill retorts.
"Where is he now?"
"Nivadellir."
The group all walk outside the ship and onto the planet. They look around as Strange finds a spot to sit.
"The heck happened to this planet? It's eight degrees off its axis. Gravitational pull is all over the place."
Tony nods to Quill, "Yeah, we got one advantage. He's coming to us. We'll use it. All right, I have a plan. Or at least the beginnings of one. It's pretty simple. We draw him in, pin him down, get what we need. Definitely don't wanna dance with this guy. We just need the gauntlet."
Drax yawns.
Tony stares at him in disbelief, "Are you yawning? In the middle of this, while I'm breaking it down? Huh? Did you hear what I said?"
Drax shakes his head, "I stopped listening after you said, 'We need a plan.'"
Tony turns to Quill, "Okay, Mr. Clean is on his own page."
"See, 'not winging it' isn't really what they do."
Peter stares at Mantis in awe, "Uh, what exactly do they do?"
Mantis stands confidently, "Kick names, take ass."
"Yeah that's right." Drax says quietly as he shifts to a commanding position beside Mantis.
Tony stands for a moment with an expression of hopelessness.
"Alright, just get over her, please. Mr. Lord can you get your folks to circle up?"
Quill nods before motioning Drax and Mantis over, "Mr. Lord... Star-Lord is fine."
"We gotta coalesce. 'Cause if all we come at him with is a plucky attitude.."
Quill frowns, "Dude, don't call us plucky. We don't know what is means. Alright, we're optimistic, yes. I like your plan. Except it sucks, so let me do the plans, and that way it might be really good."
Drax nods, "Tell him about the dance-off to save the universe."
Tony raises an eyebrow, "What dance-off?"
"It's nothing." Quill shakes his head while trying to shut Drax up.
Peter smiles chuckling, "Like in Footloose, the movie?"
Quill nods excitedly, "Exactly like Footloose. Is it still the greatest movie in history?"
Peter stares at Quill in question, "It never was."
Quill frowns sadly at him.
Tony rubs his temple turning to Peter, "Don't encourage this, alright?"
"Okay." Peter nods.
"We're getting no help from Flash Gordon here."
Quill frowns, "Flash Gordon? By the way, that's a compliment. Don't forget, I'm half human. So that 50% of me that's stupid... That's 100% you."
"Your math is blowing my mind."
Mantis taps Tony's shoulder before pointing to Strange, "Excuse me, but...Does your friend often do that?"
Strange is sitting cross-legged on a rock nearby. His hands poise in a mystic gesture with the Time Stone suspended between them. His eyes are closed, and his head is jerking rapidly from side to side.
Tony walks over and frowns, "Strange, we alright?"
Strange seems to snap out of it as he starts forward, letting out a cry.
"You're back. You're alright. Hi."
Peter frowns, "Hey, what was that?"
Strange begins speaking breathlessly as he looks between Tong and Peter, "I went forward in time to view alternate futures. To see all the possible outcomes of the coming conflict."
Quill bites his lip, "How did you see?"
"14,000,605."
"How many did we win?" Tony frowns.
Strange pauses a while just staring at Tony almost as if he was trying to give off an emotion that Tony couldn't decipher, before answering...
"One."
. . . . .
"Still no word from Vision?"
Rhodes looks up from the ground and stares at the hologram of Secretary Ross, "Satellites lost him somewhere over Edinburgh."
"On a stolen quinjet with four of the world's most wanted criminals."
Rhodes sighs, "You know they're only criminals because you've chosen to call them that, right, sir?"
Rose frowns, "My God, Rhodes, your talent for horseshit rivals my own."
"If it weren't for those Accords, Vision would've been right here."
"I remember your signature on those papers, Colonel."
"That's right. And I'm pretty sure I've paid for that." Rhodes chuckles humorlessly as he peeks down at his legs that were in the robotic braces created by Tony.
"You have second thoughts?"
Rhodey glances at something behind Ross' hologram and smiles, "Not anymore."
"Mr. Secretary."
Ross turns to see Steve Rogers with Natasha, Sam, Wanda, and Vision behind him.
"You got some nerve. I'll give you that."
Nat smirks, "You could use some of that right now."
"The world's on fire. And you think, all is forgiven?"
Steve shrugs before standing tall, "I'm not looking for forgiveness. And I'm way past asking for permission. Earth just lost her best defender. So we're here to fight. And if you wanna stand in our way... We'll fight you, too."
Ross scoffs turning back to Rhodes, "Arrest them."
"All over it." Instead Rhodey presses a button to turn off hologram then nods to Steve, "That's a court-martial. It's great to see you, Cap."
"You too, Rhodey."
Rhodey looks around at them all and chuckles, "Well. You guys, really look like crap. Must've been a rough couple of years."
"Yeah, well, the hotels weren't exactly five star." Sam jokes.
Bruce walks into the room trying to smile but ends up grimacing, "Uh, I think you look great..."
Steve, Nat, Wanda, Vision, and Sam gaze at him in awe.
"Yeah. I'm back."
Natasha smiles softly, "Hi, Bruce."
Bruce smiles back momentarily, "Nat."
Sam shakes his head at the ascend, "This is awkward."
"What's awkward?"
Footsteps nearby become louder making everyone freeze in their place. Steve inaudibly gasps as he looks at his beautiful yet tired looking wife. Her hair had been back to its natural dark brown color, but in a short bob, her freckles were more defined, she was gorgeous yet wore a blank sone cold stare.
"Double awkward..."
Sammie glances around and everyone with a blank stare. The group all take turns staring at the brace on her arm before she clears her throat putting her arms behind her back.
"Nat... Sam."
Nat and Sam nod as if saying hey. Sammie glances behind Steve , Nat, and Sam then lightly smiles.
"Wanda and Vision I see you two have been found. How was your break?"
Wanda smiles as she walks forward and pulls Sammie into a hug, "Too short. You were missed."
Sammie smiles purely as she wraps her arms around Wanda hugging her back, "Wanda what have I told you about lying."
Wanda chuckles then moves back to Vision helping him stand. Sammie takes one glance at her husband yet says nothing. She looks him up and down before turning around and staring at Rhodey.
"So what's the plan?" Sammie asks as she walks into the connecting room with a conference table.
Everyone glances at Steve before following after her. Steve sighs inwardly as Sam pats him on the back giving him a reassuring grin.
"So we gotta assume they're coming back, right?" Bruce asks, "And they can clearly find us. We need all hands on deck. Where's Clint?"
"After the whole Accords situation, he and Scott took a deal. It was too tough on their families." Nat replies.
Bruce frowns confused, "Who's Scott?"
"Ant-Man." Sammie and Steve reply at the same time. Neither of them look at one another but to Bruce who looks between the two sweating under their gaze.
"Okay... There's an Ant-Man and a Spider-Man? Alright, look... Thanos has the biggest army in the Universe. And he is not gonna stop until he... He gets...Vision's stone."
"What does he want with it?"
Rhodey shrugs patting the back of Sammie's chair, "I don't think we want to figure out..."
Nat nods, "Well then, we have to protect it."
"No, we have to destroy it." Vision speaks up confidently, "I've been giving a good deal of thought to this entity in my head, about its nature. But also, its composition. I think if it were exposed to a sufficiently powerful energy source, something, very similar to its own signature, perhaps... Its molecular integrity could fail."
"And you, with it. We're not having this conversation." Wanda frowns shaking her head. Sammie who was sitting beside her, grabs her hand and squeezes lightly. Wanda glances over at her gratefully before giving Vision her full attention once more.
Vision addresses Wanda as he nears her, "Eliminating the stone is the only way to be certain that Thanos can't get it."
"That's too high a price."
"Only you, have the power to pay it. Thanos threatens half the Universe. One life cannot stand in the way of defeating him."
"But it should." Steve says, "We don't trade lives, Vision."
Vision frowns walking toward Steve, "Captain, 70 years ago, you laid down your life to save how many millions of people. Tell me, why is this any different?"
Steve takes a breath as he seee Sammie flinches so lightly that no one else but him noticed.
Before he has a chance to answer Bruce begins to speak, "Because you might have a choice. Your mind is made up of a complex construct of overlays. Jarvis, Ultron, Tony, me, the Stone. All of them mixed together. All of them learning from one another."
"You're saying Vision isn't just the stone?" Wanda asks Bruce with a hopeful voice.
"I'm saying that... If we take out the stone, there's still a whole lot of Vision left. Perhaps the best parts."
Nat looks between Bruce and Vision, "Can we do that?"
Bruce shakes he's head, "Not me. Not here."
Rhodey sighs, "You better find someone, and somewhere fast. Ross isn't exactly just gonna let you guys have your old rooms back."
Steve pauses for a moment as he thinks then clears his throat, making everyone turn to him.
"I know somewhere."
"Okay great. Let's get on that." Rhodey replies.
Sammie clears her throat standing up, "Well it seems like y'all have this figured out. I'm going to try and figure a way to get in touch with Tony and Peter."
Without hesitation she leaves the lab and hurries out the door to outside. Thunder echoes as it begins to pour. Nat frowns and pats Steve's shoulder making him turn to look at her in confusion.
"Why are you still standing here you idiot?"
"Huh?"
Nat slaps her forehead groaning, "Go after her, Steve!"
Steve nods and runs out the lab making everyone sigh.
"They give me headaches." Sam says as he rubs his temple.
Nat scoffs playfully with a smile, "You?"
Steve hurries his pace as he tries to catch up with Sammie. He calls out her name making her freeze right before she stepped out from under the patio covering.
"Sam!"
"I have to go. I need to see if Tony and Peter are in danger or need help."
She steps out in the rain then stops once again as she hears a broken voice.
"Sammie I'm sorry."
Steve's voice cracks slightly as his eyes fill with tears. He felt awful about everything that had happened. He missed Sammie, he missed holding her and talking to her. All he wanted was to spend the rest of his life with her... but he went and fucked that up.
Sammie turns around and stares at Steve with red eyes. It had been clear that she had been crying when she left out the lab. Rain falls down making her tears blend in.
"Steven... I-I can't... I do-don't think I'm in the right mindset to talk right now."
She goes to leave but Steve grabs her hand and stands in the rain with her. It pours down on the two as they look into each other's eyes intensely... both hearts broken and hurting.
"Then don't talk... just listen... please."
Sammie sighs as she watches a tear slide down his cheek. She nods so softly that Steve almost doesn't notice.
"Doll... Sam... Sammie I'm so sorry. I'm sorry for what I put you through. I'm sorry I lied to you. I'm sorry I kept a huge secret from you. I'm so sorry. I can't imagine how hard it was for you to be on two different sides. I know you were friends with Bucky before you even met me, I know Howard and Tony were like brothers to you... I'm so sorry that I tried to make you choose. I should've never ever made you and I should've listened to you."
Sammie sobs lightly as she covers her mouth and drops Steve's hand, "I-I didn't have to choose between two sides Steve. I had to pick between three. My friend, my brother... and my husband... I would follow you to the edge of the earth Steve. But you hurt me... you kept Howard's killer from me... you knew. You broke Tony's heart. He was your friend too. I know how much you love Bucky. We all did. But we loved you too. It was so easy for you to pick your side. Did you even think twice about me? At all? I loved Bucky too. I would do anything to help him but he killed Howie... and you kept it from me. I'm your wife... how can I compete against your best friend?"
Sammie moves away but again is stopped by Steve. He grabs her face with both hands and lays his forehead against hers. The two sob as the rain falls down harder.
"I know... if I could take everything back I would. If I could do everything over again I would. But I can't go back... I can't take it back. The only thing I can do is try and make it better. I can only apologize and try to move on. I can show you that you are not competing with anyone... never ever Sammie. You are so important to me. You are my home... you're my last breath... you're my everything. Sammie Dylann Todd, I'm nothing without you. Please please please just give me one more chance. I love you so much doll. So so much. I can't lose you for good."
Sammie lets out a choke as she cries hard. She lifts her arms to wrap around Steve's neck. Her fingers from her free hand grip his hair as the braced arm pulls him closer.
"I don't want to lose you Steve. You're my everything."
"I'm right here Sammie."
Sammie leans up and lightly placed her lips on his. Steve sighs and kisses back. The two slowly move their lips against one another then they pull back. Sammie leaps into Steve's arms as he lifts her up. Her legs wrap around his waist as she pulls him as close as she can. Steve grips tightly onto her waist as he lays his face in her neck, breathing in her lavender scent. He had missed her so much the past few months and with everything happening right now they needed each other more than anything.
