Death
Sammie's POV
Walking around camp, I look for anybody that can tell me where Steve disappeared too. Almost giving up I see Howard running into the control building.
My face scrunches in confusion as my feet hurry to follow him. I catch up with him just as his hand goes to pull open the door to the control room.
"Stark... what're you up to?"
Howard turns around slowly with a look of uncomfortable-ness on his face.
"Um I can't really talk now Sammie I've got to go-to"
"Where's Steve?"
His face turns red and his eyes show nothing but fear as he stutters, "I should really go-"
"Howard... Please tell me he's not doing something incredibly stupid..."
"Well... It's not incredibly stupid. Maybe a little bit."
"Where is he?"
Next thing you know, I'm storming into the control room and hear Steve's voice on the radio as he talks to Peggy.

3rd Person's POV
The radio squawks in the empty control room.
"Agent Carter, come in..."
Peggy runs over and grabs the radio, frantic and relieved.
"Steve, is that you? Are you okay?"
"I'm fine."
Peggy turns around when she hears more than one pair of feet. Glaring at Howard for being so weak, she looks at her best friend sadly as she watches Sammie's eyes fill with tears. Peggy turns back to the radio and asks Steve another question.
"Where's Schmidt?"
"Schmidt's dead."
"What about the plane?" Howard steps up and asks while standing beside Peggy.
"That's a little bit harder to explain." Steve stammers into the radio.
Steve stares at the New York map, radio in hand. His compass lies open on the control board.
The next voice makes a tear slowly fall down his face.
"Steve h-how did y-you... W-when did y-you... I-I didn't even know you were gone. Why didn't you tell me?"
Sammie knew that he would go after Hydra but she didn't think he would leave the next day. And not tell her that he would be leaving. The last time the squad left, Bucky didn't come back. And again she had a gut-wrenching feeling that she was starting to hate.
Steve looks down at the radio and wishes that he could be with Sammie one last time. He would've kissed her once more and would've danced with her for the first time. But it's too late now. He was out of time.
"I'm sorry doll... I didn't want you to worry."
"Too late." Sammie smiles sadly at the radio then turns to Peggy with pleading eyes.
"Give me your coordinates. I'll find you a landing site." Peggy orders.
"There isn't going to be a landing. Schmidt's locked the navigation system."
Steve eyes the relined engine gauges in front of him.
"And there's more than enough power to reach the East Coast."
Peggy looks grave. As she waves Colonel Phillips down, Sammie takes her seat by the radio.
"We'll get Howard on the line. He'll know what to do." Sammie glances at Howard with almost begging him to help her change Steve's mind
"I'm sitting on a hundred tons of explosives. Hotwiring this thing's not an option doll."
"Well what do you plan on doing Rogers?" Peggy asks standing by a wall away from everyone.
He looks out the window at the vast, blue expanse of ocean.
"I've got to put her in the water."
Peggy spreads her fingers on the wall, her knuckles white, "But you said you couldn't steer it."
Steve scans the control panel. He spots a thick cable running from the ignition to the engines.
"I can't. But I think I can crash it."
He yanks the cable out and blue sparks flare. Then all the lights dies and the engines stop, making the plane go quiet.
"Steve, please don't do this. We've got time. We can figure this out." Sammie pleads while tears continually fall down her tears. She looks down at the ring on her finger and cries harder.
Steve eyes the navigation charts, "I already did. Right now, I'm in the middle of nowhere. If I wait any longer, a lot of people are going to get die."
Both radios pause for a moment.
"Sammie, this is my choice."
"What about my choice? Does that mean anything at all? Not even a little bit?"
"Of course it does doll... But I have to do the right thing."
Peggy stands beside Phillips and replies, "We'll send out rescue ships. We'll find you."
"I don't think there's going to be much left to find." Steve mummers.
Peggy and Phillips look at each other, slowly accepting what's happening. Howard holds onto Sammie's shaking shoulders trying to calm down her trembling body.
Steve leans on the stick with all his might and the plane begins to dive down quickly.
"Sam... Sammie..."
"I-I'm here." She tries to smile through the tears but the pain is too much to handle.
Steve's compass spins wildly as he stares at a picture of her. The first girl to ever give him a chance when he was small and not much of a hero. She saw the real him... she was so kind and so smart. He thought about her beautiful smile, and her cute giggle with her nerdy snort.
With a smile on his face he replies, "I'm going to need a rain check on that dance."
Trying to hold back a waterfall of more than Sammie answers, "All right. A week... Saturday. The Stork Club."
"Okay. You got it." Steve glances at her picture one last time.
"8:00 on the dot. You better not be late, do you understand?"
"I still don't know how to dance."
She closes her eyes and covers a sob, "I'll show you. I'll show you everything. Just be there."
"Maybe the band could play something
slow, I'd hate to step on your-"
HISS. The radio in Sammie's hand goes silent. Colonel Phillips puts a hand on her shoulder. She just stares at it in shock.
"Steve?"
"...."
"Steve please don't leave."
"...."
"I love you please come back."
"...."
"Steve..."
As silence fills the room, Sammie starts to feel like the walls are caving in. Her breathing quickens and her vision blurs.
"Sammie?..." Howard tries to get Sammie's attention but it's as if she doesn't hear him.
Next thing he knows, Sammie falls back and hits her head on the floor. Howard falls to his knees calling out her name as her eyes roll back and darkness takes over.
