EPISODE TEN: MERRY EX-MAS

                             Buck closed his locker just as a pair of hands grab ahold of him, pulling him further back into the locker room. Adalynn smiled cheekily her hands cupping his face before she leaned in their lips meeting in a wanting kiss.

Adalynn had made sure their bodies weren't visible through the glass window by hiding them behind the two rows of lockers.

Buck pulled away from the girl, his brows furrowed "hold on, I thought this was supposed to be a secret"

Adalynn's brows raised as she eyed the man "well, I guess I'll just leave" she shrugged with raised hands as she went to walk past him.

Buck chuckled lightly as he turned and took ahold of her arm "I wasn't complaining"

A slight smirk tugged at Adalynn's lips as she turned back to face the man. Her smirked caused the man to roll his eyes, Adalynn leaned forward but just before anything could happen a voice hit the pairs ears causing slight panic to wash over the two.

"Adalynn" The Diaz Turned sending a harsh shove to the Buckley man's chest, causing him to stumble back behind the lockers.

The woman rested her hand on the side of the lockers as she hummed with raised brows in response to her name being called.

Hen made her way into the locker room, the woman eyed her with furrowed brows "why are you standing like that?"

Adalynn's lips pursed as she adjusted the way she was standing, her arms folding over her chest "I- well" she shrugged before shaking her head "what's up?"

Hen looked at her, suspicion covering her features "I was just gonna ask if you've seen Buck"

"Um, nope, just got her myself, so" Adalynn trailed off, the woman begging to move towards Hen "I'll go look for him" she said with a smile and shrug walking past her.

Hens brows remained furrowed "it's really not important" she began to protest.

Adalynn hit her hand on the other before smiling with a nod "okay, well I'll see you up there then" the girl jogged towards the staircase.

Her hand rested on her chest as she shook her head, she could feel her heart thumping against her rib cage rapidly. One of Adalynn's traits that she hated about herself was she couldn't just lie like a normal person, she would get awkward and panicked- and she could never figure out why. That's probably why most of the time her parents caught her in a lie her actions were a dead give away.

The alarm blaring caused her eyes to fall closed as she tosses her arms out "why? Every time I come up these stairs"

Chimney laughed as he passed her "you must be cursed" he joked.

Adalynn rolled her eyes as she jogged down the steps "don't believe in curses, Chim"

The team jogged up the front lawn of the people's house, following the man's wife closely as she showed them where her husband lied.

Bobby came to a stop as he spoke "sir, can you move at all?"

"It hurts" the man groaned out.

Bobby nodded "okay, that's probably a good sign, just stay still. Can you tell me what happened?"

The injured man looked hesitant before he answered "the snowman pushed me off the roof"

Adalynn's brows pull together "what like evil Frosty?" She uttered which earned a look from her captain. The girls gaze looking up at the roof before her head tilted as she motioned to the inflatable snowman "oh, that makes more sense"

"Blood pressure's 120/70. Respiration's good" Chimney stated as the Diaz girl looked at him.

Eddie and Chimney rolled the man onto his side carefully, Eddie looked over his shoulder to the others "doesn't appear to be any spinal damage"

"Alright, let's get him on a backboard"

Adalynn nodded grabbing the man's leg to help move him down to the backboard the man groaning in pain as they did.

Chimney chuckled lightly "oh, looks like baby Jesus broke your fall"

Buck hit the man's chest lightly "it's a Christmas miracle" he chuckled.

"Okay, let's move him"

Adalynn climbed out of her vehicle, the woman carrying a bag filled with wrapped presents.

She shoved her keys into her pocket her eyes looking at the ground that was until a light gasp hit her ears.

Her attention shot upwards, her mouth falling agape at the sight of the woman before her.

Shannon shifted, hand in hair "Adalynn" she said with a smile.

The curly-haired girl looked between her and her brother's house then back to her. Her eyes studied the woman noticing her messy hair and messed up clothes- along with her shoes being carried in her hand.

Adalynn shook her head realizing the silence had been going on for far too long- but she didn't know what to say "Shannon? I- when" her brows pull together, trying to find the words.

Shannon's lips rolled into her mouth "um, Eddie hasn't told you anything?"

Adalynn inhaled sharply "um, nope, but now I have a lot of questions" she pointed to the Diaz's house "I'm gonna drop these gifts off"

She walked past the woman before hitting her head lightly turning to face the woman once more "oh, nice to see you again, Shannon"

"You too" she said with a nod and smile.

Adalynn swiftly made her way towards her brothers home pulling the door open as she walked inside "Eddie"

She stopped mid sentence noticing her Abuela and Christopher the girl plastered a smile on her face as she made her way towards the group sitting on the couch.

"Hola, Abuela" she said placing a kiss on the woman's cheek, the older woman's hand patting the side of the girls face.

Adalynn rounded the couch setting the bag onto the table "what's that?" Chris questioned with a grin.

Adalynn smiled brightly at the boy her hand touching the bag "well, this bag is a secret" she shrugged "you're gonna have to wait until Christmas Day to find out"

The girls eyes shifted to the bottle of wine and the two glasses set out on the table causing her to look at her brother- with a look that Eddie himself couldn't even describe which cause him to give back a confused one.

"Anyways" her Abuela began taking out a red Christmas tree decoration along with a smaller green on "Christopher said that this was daddy's and that this was his"

Before Eddie could muster I response Adalynn pipped up "speaking of your dad" she said with a smile until her gaze went to Eddie "can I talk with you for a moment?"

Eddie gave her, once again, a confused look "uh, yeah, sure"

Adalynn nodded as she made her way into the kitchen "we'll be right back"

Once Eddie was in the kitchen out of sight of the two people who sat in the living room Adalynn shoved him "you could've told me you're seeing Shannon again!" She exclaimed in a hushed tone.

Eddies eyes widened as he glance into the living room "how do you know that?"

Adalynn scoffs, her arms crossed "I just had the most awkward encounter with her as she leaving your place carrying her shoes"

Eddie sighed, hands on his hips "Christopher came home, I made her sneak out the back"

Adalynn's eye twitched "you made her sneak out from her own son? The hell is the matter with you?"

Eddies hand went to his forehead "look, I just, I'm trying to figure out the right time, okay?"

Adalynn gave him a sympathetic look "I get it but as worried as I would be in your position I would know that Chris needs his mom"

Adalynn never really thought that she would be defending Shannon after she just didn't come back- hell, she thought she'd never trust the woman again even though the pair were extremely close beforehand but yet again Eddie had his own shortcomings in their relationship as well.

Adalynn could faintly hear Christopher calling out for Eddie, the girl motioning her head for him to go.

Eddie mad his way back into the living room, putting a smile on his face "okay, what else did you get?"

Adalynn leaned on the doorway to the kitchen as she watched the two with a soft smile.

"How long's he been in the air?" Buck questions from the back of the firetruck.

The group making their way to an airport in search for a man trapped in a box.

"Plan took off from LAX eighteen minutes ago" Bobby answered "it was covered to SoCal Airport"

Eddie looked to the captain "eighteen minutes. It's nearly long enough to reach altitude" his head shakes "it's not good. Cargo isn't pressurized or heated"

"I thought coach was bad" Chimney comments, looking at the others.

Adalynn's face contorts "Kay, I'm now developing a very unlikely fear of getting trapped in a box" which earned a slight laugh from the Buckley man beside her causing her to give him a look through narrow eyes.

"Chim, make sure we have O2 and warming blankets standing by"

Chimney nodded "copy that"

Only a few moments later the team had pulled up to the airport each member jogging towards the cargo hold.

Chimney was the first to head in looking around the compartment before uttering "oh, joy"

"Well, looks like we're opening presents early this year, huh?"

Adalynn's hands went to her hips "presents we don't get to keep" she retorts to Bucks comment before she moved around the small area filled with boxes.

"Clock is ticking guys, we gotta find this kid" Bobby states, he himself also moving around the small area. "Dispatch said he was having trouble breathing even before he went up in the air"

Adalynn froze her movements as the sound of a phone ringing filled her ears "the hell?"

"Do you guys hear that?" Bobby questions, everyone freezing their movements as the faint ringtone hitting their ears. "Stethoscope"

Eddie placed it onto the bottom box where they had guessed the noise had been coming from. "That's our guy!"

"We gotta get this shrink wrap off"

Adalynn grabbed ahold of a knife cutting the plastic wrap off, and removing the boxes on top handing them off to other members.

The cut the top open to the bottom box, Buck looking in before nodding "yeah I see him"

With those words the quickly cut down the side of the box pulling it down, the packaging materials falling out the side.

Buck searched the box "I see him. He doesn't look good"

Buck and Bobby pull the man out giving each other a look before lifting him up and over onto the backboard.

"He's cold, cap" Chimney announced. Shortly after Eddie states "I don't have a pulse!"

"Starting compressions!"

Adalynn took the warming blanket being handed to her before placing it over the man, tucking it into the sides to seal around him.

"How's it looking, Eddie?" Bobby asked.

After a moment he shakes his head "still nothing" Adalynn looked at the heart monitor the lines still running straight.

Chimney glanced to the man across from him "okay, Buck switch"

Buck nodded taking Chimneys place doing compressions.

"Hold for pulse check" Eddie says causing him to stop momentary "still nothing"

The faint beeping was heard from the machine "I got a pulse!" Eddie's hand rub against the man's shoulders in a attempt to warm him up along with the warming blankets "temp's rising"

"Welcome back, Brandon"

"I'm not dead?" He faintly asks.

Adalynn smiled with a shake of her head "you're not dead"

His phone rang once again, chimney picking it up off the floor "well, someone really wants to talk to you"

"She told me not to answer it" Brandon weakly says.

"Who did?" Chimney questions.

"Maddie" Brandon clarifies "the 911 lady. She said she would ring it for you to find me"

Chimney answered it, raising the phone to his ear "Maddie? Oh, fancy meeting you here" after a moment he spoke once again "he's good, you wanna talk to him?"

Not long after the question Chimney held the phone next to Brandon's ear "thank you" he uttered out with a laugh.

Brandon looks at the silver warming blankets on him "I look like an ornament"

Bucks head tilts "better on the tree than under it, right?"

Adalynn sighed looking at the food laid out across the tables they had set up for guest to come in "do we seriously not get to eat anything?"

Chimney laughs with a shake of his head as he hands the cup of hot chocolate to a little boy.

Buck looks at her with furrowed brows "what, do you not want to see these kids happy?"

Her hand quickly raised towards the man "first off, I never said that- I love kids" she paused for a moment "but I also love food, so"

The two men next to her laugh causing her to roll her eyes "okay, you know what? I'm gonna show kids the firetruck so I don't have to listen to you two-"

"Shannon?"

That hit her ears causing her attention to shift to her brother and his ex/ wife.

"I thought-"

Adalynn placed her hand over the Buckley man's mouth forcing him to not be able to finish his sentence "shush"

Eddie set down the firetruck she handed him "what are you doing here?"

Shannon had a blank expression on her face before she answered "you won't answer my texts or return my calls"

Eddie shifts with a tilt of his head "this is not the place" he utters.

Adalynn still listening and watching the interaction.

"Maybe it's the perfect place" Shannon counters "so we can actually have a conversation that doesn't end up with us in bed"

With that sentence both Chimney and Buck look that way while Adalynn had a disgusted look on her face from that information.

Eddie's lips pressed together "follow me"

Chimney and Buck share a glance with each other before looking at the Diaz girl.

She shook her head and began walking away "that was information I didn't need to know" she muttered.

"How did I get roped into Christmas tree shopping for your sister?" Adalynn questioned as she passed some trees, her finger flicking one of the branches.

Bucks hands went o his hips "well, because I thought that maybe you would actually look for a tree yourself"

Her gaze flicks to him with furrowed brows "what are you scanning my apartment now?"

The man holds his hands up "I'm just saying you don't seem to enjoy this holiday much"

Adalynn sighed, before shrugging "I have a love-hate thing with Christmas"

"What?" Buck exclaimed before laughing "you have to be kidding"

She shakes her head "I'm not- which is why I don't tell people because they overreact"

"So you hate Christmas?"

"I never said that" Adalynn quickly defended "I just" the girl paused for a moment turning to face him "until I was six I just didn't have many happy Christmas"

Buck slowly nodded understanding what she was saying "you mean until the Diaz's adopted you"

The girl nodded slowly, tucking her hair behind her ears "those just kinda stuck with me, but, trust me by the time I'm home Adam will have a tree- he's actually done it every year to force me to have one" she laughed lightly "so I actually don't need a tree"

A slight cocky smile appearing on her face for proving him wrong. Which Buck clearly noticed but before anything could be said Chimney appeared from between the trees "exactly how pissed off is Maddie? Should I be shopping for a six-foot apology or a twelve?"

Bucks brows furrow "uh, pissed off at you for what?"

Chimney looked at him like it was obvious "for kicking you off my couch and onto hers"

"It's an air mattress" Buck corrects before he continued the two following Chimney down the row of trees "and she is fine. If anything, I should be the one holding a grudge, which I will, if you don't hurry up and pick a tree already"

Adalynn nods in agreement "yeah I'm gonna agree here, just pick a tree, Chim"

Chimney don't answer his gaze flicking from his phone to the trees in front of him. Buck gave a slight look of disbelief "wait, are you seriously googling Christmas trees?"

Adalynn was maybe good at controlling what to say but her expressions were a dead give away. Chimney looked from Buck to her clearly noticing the judgemental look on her face "look, I want to buy Maddie a gift, and I want it to be perfect"

Buck nods "well, I'm gonna go find someone to help us" he pointed to Chimney "you stop overthinking and just pick one" the man quickly turned and began to walk away.

Adalynn glanced from Chimney to the walking away Buck "yeah, I think I'm gonna go with him, I don't think I'm kind enough to listen to you bounce back and forth on which tree"

She nodded before following after Buck leaving Chimney there.

Adalynn followed in behind Buck and Chimney who were carrying the Christmas tree in.

"Surprise!" Chimney exclaimed. Adalynn chuckled her hands in her pockets. Her gaze shifting to Maddie who was walking down the stairs.

"Wow. A Christmas tree" Adalynn couldn't quite explain the look on the woman's face it wasn't really full of joy and excitement but almost like dread.

Chimney nodded with a smile, proud of his tree choice "yeah, Buck said you didn't have one yet" his smile slowly disappeared noticing the look on her face "uh, is this okay? Is this the wrong kind of surprise?"

Maddie shook her head "no, no, no, no it's so sweet- really I- I love that you did this"

Adalynn cleared her throat, the girl wanting to escape this situation "um, I'm gonna get going" she said with a smile, pointing over her shoulder "it was good to see you again Maddie" she said with a smile and nod.

Adalynn walked out of the apartment, shaking her head the girl passing Buck who looked confused "your leaving?"

Adalynn smiled softly "I have about twenty messages from Adam telling me to get my ass home to decorate the tree he picked out." Her hand went to his arm "I'll see you next shift, Buck"

The girl turned walking back towards her car with a smile on her face. Buck watched the girl as she walked away, an emotion rising inside of him that almost made him scared but not quite it was complicated and confusing.

How long could this no labels thing last until someone caught feelings.

Adalynn opened the door to her apartment, the girl immediately noticing the giant tree with Adam and Liliane arguing while trying to wrap the lights around the tree.

Lili noticed the girl standing there with a smile ad she dropped her end of the lights "finally you're here!" The girl grabbed the Santa hat waiting on the counter, Liliane putting it on the Diaz girl.

"Can you please tell your friend it doesn't matter how the lights sit on the damn tree!" The girl motioned to the man.

Adam pointed his finger towards her "it matters and you know it!"

Adalynn raised a hand "okay, calm down" her head shook as she took off her jacket "I'll do the lights with Adam, you can go grab the ornaments from the closet" the girl laughed walking towards the Whitlock.

The three beginning to decorate the tree. Each wearing Christmas hats and telling jokes while decorating the tree.
