Episode 5: Awful People

               Adalynn leaned on the counter nodding her head while her mother's voice filled her ears from her phone.

Adalynn glanced at the clock on the wall before she spoke cutting her mother short "Mom, I gotta get to work-"

"I know, I know" Helena sighed out "I just miss my little girl and my son who seems to have the habit of not answering our phone calls"

Adalynn's lips pressed together "mama, Eddie is trying to figure things out you know with Chris and his work schedule"

Helena nods, though her daughter couldn't see her "well, tell him to call us. Now be safe and have a good day"

"I will, Love you" The curly-haired girl picks up her phone her mother saying a quick 'I love you too' before Adalynn hung up the phone placing it in her pocket.

"Oh my god, I'm so late!" Liliane rushed through the apartment gaining the Diaz's attention.

The Chen woman patted her pockets before searching her purse, an almost panicked look on her face before her gaze lands on her keys on the counter, a sigh of relief leaving her lips.

Adalynn chuckled softly with a shake of her head, lifting her work bag over her shoulder.

Adalynn looked at the woman " well, are we gonna go before you get yelled at by your boss" she joked.

Liliane's face fell "Stop- she scares me, so much"

Adalynn sat in the firehouse, the girl mindlessly spinning an apple on the counter barely listening to the conversation around her until she heard her name.

"Adalynn" Eddie spoke gaining her attention "you should ask cap here for some cooking lessons" he teased the girl earning a roll of her eyes.

"funny" Adalynn commented with a shake of her head "I'm this close to killing you, Edmundo Diaz" she holds her index finger and thumb close together while her eyes squint.

"Oh-" the girl clasps her hands together "how about you talk to our mother so she'll stop complaining to me about it?" She quirks a brow at her brother, her lips pressed in a line.

Eddies brows raise before he looked away from her in silence.

"You know, I thought having siblings work together would be more annoying than amusing" Chimney spoke up from the couch with a smirk on his lips. "I feel like I'm watching a reality tv show!"

Adalynn scrunched her nose "sounds like you're talking from experience there, Chim" she bunches her shoulders "at least we all know you like reality tv"

Hen scoffs eyeing the girl "it wasn't really a secret, he was hooked on Real House Wives" she utters, passing the girl earning a chuckle from Adalynn.

Chimney was quick to defend himself "excuse me, but that was when I was dating Tatiana" he holds a figure up in a defensive matter.

"Adalynn Diaz!" a voice shouted out from the lower floor of the station, where the firetrucks sat.

"Who the hell is that?" Buck questioned, confusion covered his face.

The woman's brows pull together- an upside down smile forming in her face as she shot up from the chair recognizing the persons voice "Adam! You bastard!"

Eddie took a sharp breath "you guys are in for a treat" he comments standing from his spot on the couch.

Adalynn practically flew down the stairs a wide grin on her face as she ran towards the man.

Her arms wrapped around him in a suffocating hug "god" she sighs out, pulling away from him "what the hell are you doing here!?"

Adam tilts his head "ah, you know, sight seeing" he jokes "had to come see my best friend who seems to be thriving out of El Paso"

Adalynn shoved him lightly, her nose scrunched up.

"So, who is this mystery man?" Hen's voice filled her ears, walking towards the two along with the others.

Adalynn looks to her team members a wide smile in her face "This is Adam, one of my good friends from Texas and one hell of a lawyer. Pretty sure he makes more money than I do in a year" Slight envy behind her voice as she eyes the man.

Adam goes and shakes hands with the team members, all being welcoming- well practically all.

Evan Buckley was the one that tended to be a little less welcoming than the others.

Though Adalynn didn't see any issue with it- I mean considering how 'welcoming' he was with her and Eddie.

Adalynn turns to look back at the dark-haired boy "Okay, seriously though, what are you doing in L.A?"

"There's some woman that's trying to sue some construction sight that she wondered on purposefully and got hurt" his lips press together at the slight stupidity of people while he did air quotes for got hurt "security cameras tell a lot"

The all too familiar bell ring filled the groups ears. Adam pats her arm, almost shoving the Diaz girl with a smirk "Don't die on me, Diaz"

Adalynn waved a dismissive hand towards the Whitlock man "I hope you get lost in this city, Adam"

"LAFD, step aside please" Bobby called out to the small crowd of people the filled the parking lot.

An older woman took his arm "I didn't know what to do" she admits looking between Cap and the woman under her car in distress "I was afraid to move the car"

Adalynn's brows pull together as she walks towards the injured woman while Bobby reassures the older-woman that she had done the right thing.

The curly-haired girl crouches down but before she could do anything the blonde lady speaks "Do any of you have a pen? I've got a partial license plate, somebody should write it down" she groggily states.

Eddie shakes his head as he digs through a medical bag "Don't worry about the license plate ma'am. It's right here on the back of the car"

"Not this car- the car that hit me!" Her voice raises.

Confusion covers Adalynn's face, her lips pursing slightly "Isn't this the car that hit you?"

"No" she points at the car above her "This is the car that ran me over- both better be insured"

Adalynn held her hands up "wait- you got hit and ran over by two different cars?"

"Yes!" The woman snapped at her causing Adalynn's eyes to widen slightly with a frown on her face "okay" she utters.

Bobby takes a breath "Let's focus on getting you out here ma'am"

Buck peered under the vehicle before he spoke "I think theres enough, we can slide a backboard under there and pull her out that way"

Adalynn followed his gaze under the car before nodding in agreement "yeah that could work"

"Can you tell me your name?" Eddie asked the blonde.

"Lorraine" she answered with a groan.

Hen walks over setting her bag down before she stares intently at the woman "hey, wait. Don't we know you?"

"Uh, no, I don't- I don't think so" Lorraine stutters out causing the younger Diaz to give her a questioning look.

Hen points her finger "last year, Hancock Park"

Chimney lights up as it comes back to him "that's right. I never forget a femur!" His gaze darts back to the woman.

Athena hums before shaking her head "it's the damn Porch Pirate"

Adalynn chuckled confused while looking at the group "what?"

"Basically she was stealing packages" Buck explains to the still confused Adalynn who was watching hen and Chimney wheel her into the ambulance.

Adalynn pursed her lips "she was so well known she got a nickname" she laughs lightly with a shake of her head.

"Sergeant Grant" Bobby said formally to the woman as he walked towards her.

"Captain" she replied "Mr. Personality over here started coughing, grabbed his side and fell over. Could be appendicitis. I'm not sure"

Adalynn looked at the many people around who were holding sighs and megaphones. Her gaze shifts to the cemetery where a funeral was happening with men in uniform

"protestors at a funeral? Seriously?" She comments, a look of disbelief over her features.

"Welcome to L.A" Buck adds in a slight whisper, his face just a few inches away from her own before he glides past her following Bobby.

Cap crouched down while he spoke "sir, I'm just gonna examine you for a second here" he lifted the man's shirt noticing the bag attached to his side.

"Oh, okay, we got a colostomy bag, probably backing up you're gonna have to intubate him"

Bobby looked back down to the man "sir, just try to relax. These paramedics here are gonna attend to you"

The man took one look at Hen before he began to protest "oh, hell no! You do it"

Bobby shakes his head "sir, I am not a trained paramedic I can't intubate you. They can"

"I'm fine" he states weakly while he waves a hand.

Adalynn took a breath her hands on her hips already understanding what's happening.

"Sir, you're not fine. Your bowl is probably obstructed" Chimney states to the man "the contents in your colostomy bag are backing up into your system you're about to choke on your own waste, you will suffocate and die"

Chimney crouches down from his standing position but the man raises his hand "get away!"

Adalynn frowns taking a moment before speaking- seeing as the things she would've said probably would have gotten her fired. "If you refuse care, there's nothing we can do when you begin to suffocate and eventually die"

Bobby glanced at the woman "she's right, if you refuse care we cannot administer it by force"

The man groggily looks around before weakly pointing "what about him?"

Adalynn followed her gaze to her brother "Diaz" Bobby said before Eddie crouched down beside the man.

"Diaz, what kinda name is that?" The man questions weakly.

Eddie took a breath glancing at the others "my fathers from Mexico" he clarifies before adding "my mothers Swedish. I can help you out with the Swedish half but no one told me which half that is"

The man shakes his head frantically causing Adalynn to roll her eyes in annoyance while Eddie tossed his hands in the air and stood back up.

"Okay would you like me to call you another paramedic team so you can have an all-white one?" Bobby questioned, he himself getting fed up.

"Yeah" he uttered, barely audible.

Hen pressed her lips together "he's gonna aspirate"

The man began to gag before rolling to his side, throwing up.

The team take a few steps back from the man. Adalynns nose scrunched up in slight disgust on knowing what was coming out of his mouth.

"And he's aspirating"

"Actual diarrhea of the mouth, outstanding" Chimney comments while waving his hand.

It was silent for a moment before Hen finally spoke up "alright let's just get to work"

"Let me roll him over" Eddie crouched back down to the man- now being able to do something now that he was unconscious.

"Ready Buck?"

"Three, two, one" the team help roll the man over, holding him steady while Eddie examined the guy.

The Diaz shakes his head "this is gonna cut it, we need suction"

"We got suction on the truck" Hen announced "lets get him on a gurney"

Someone quickly sets the gurney down while they lift him onto it and then load up the ambo.

Adalynn rolled her eyes watching the ambo drive off "I don't think I've ever met such a racist person"

Buck tilts his head "you'd be surprised how many there are" he turns to her "how's Eddie doing with Carla now helping him out?"

Adalynn glanced at him "good actually" she purses her lips with a smile "he seems to be a little less stressed with everything"

"And you?" He questions, concern covering his features.

Adalynn inhaled sharply "um.." she trailed off "I'm getting there, I think"

Before anything else could be said a voice filled their ears "well done"

Bucks face lights up with a smile "right, your ride along was today"

He goes to the woman's side, his arm going over her shoulder. Adalynn eyeing them confused.

"Uh cap, Adalynn- this is my sister, Maddie" he introduced the woman.

"Great to finally meet you" Bobby smiled at the woman.

Adalynn gave her own warm smile "nice to meet you"

Maddie nods "yeah, you too. I've heard nothing but wonderful things- about both of you" her gaze lands on Bobby "though most were from her"

She motions her head towards the Grant woman walking towards them. Though Adalynn gave the Buckley man a questioning look.

"Ah" Bobby nods "well, the feelings mutual"

"She's something she never lets anything get to her" Maddie adds looking at the woman.

"Get to me" Athena shakes her head "do you know how many times in a given day somebody's got the opportunity to get to me?" She chuckles "if I start letting them get to me, I wouldn't make past breakfast"

She points at the Buckley woman "which reminds me, we should eat"

Maddies eyes squint "eat- how do you eat after something like that?" She chuckles heading to the passenger of the squad car.

"It's lunchtime" Athena answers like it was obvious.

Adalynn smiles before placing her hand on her captains shoulder "which reminds me, what's for lunch there, Cap?"

Bobby glances at her before shaking his head and walking towards the Engine.

Adalynn holds out her arms "hey, I'm serious! I only eat good meals when you cook!" She follows after the older man.
