Episode 4: Stuck

       The curly-haired Diaz girls brows cinch together as she concentrates on the nightstand in front of her that she was attempting to build.

Adalynn's eyes look to the screw she had in place that fell out once again causing her head to fall back the girl mumbling a few curse words to herself most in English while the rare few were in Spanish.

She reaches to her phone that was sitting a few feet away from her as she clicked on the name, the phone dialling as she holds it to her ear.

"hey" the voice filled her ears.

Adalynn let out a sigh "I need your help"

Adalynn pressed her lips together as she opened her door being met with Buck "Thank you, If I didn't get someone to help me build this stupid thing I might've ended up breaking it and Eddie is with Chris so I didn't want to bug him"

Buck chuckled while he walked into the the apartment that still had boxes scattered. Adalynn nudged some folded boxes over with her foot.

Buck's brows cinch together as he looks at her laptop "you're looking for nanny's?" he asks slightly confused.

Adalynn looked at her laptop that was sitting on the floor closed to where she was building the nightstand "Oh, no" she laughs "I'm trying to help my stubborn brother find someone good enough to watch his son besides our Abuela. I know how much she loves Chris but she can't keep up with him, as you heard earlier, so"

She bit her lip "Multi tasking isn't exactly something I'm good at" Her eyes widen slightly before she pulls out her phone "Shit, I gotta call Athena"

This only grew the mans confusion at the girls current scrambled state "Wait, why do you need to call Athena?"

Adalynn searched through her contacts looking between him and her phone "She said she might know a rookie who would be willing to be my roommate because rent is so expensive" she pressed on her contact "I just couldn't sleep on my brothers couch anymore and It would be a pretty low chance of a police officer being a serial killer" she chuckles her free hand on her hip while she trails away from him slightly.

Buck thinks for a moment about the girls Eddie situation about needing someone to watch Christopher, his mind turning to Carla, who was Abby's mom's caretaker.

Adalynn clasps her hands together "Okay, sorry" she laughs with a shake of her head sitting down on the floor once again.

Adalynn grabbed the screw that had fell out earlier putting it back in place, glancing at the man before her attention fully shifts to him from the look on his face "I think that's the most concentrated I've seen you look there, Buck" she jokes.

Buck's mouth opens as if he was going to say something and points to her "I think I know someone who could help Eddie"

Adalynn's eyes light up, the curly haired girl looking upwards at the man who had a smile growing on his face "Abby's mom had a caretaker named Carla, I'm sure I could get in touch with her and see if she'd be willing to do it"

Adalynn's mouth drops before she quickly stands up from the ground "are you serious!?" she holds her hands out before pointing sternly at him "If this is a joke I will kill you"

Buck laughs with a shake of his head "No it's not a joke, I'm serious"

A look of relief adorned her face as she sighed "oh my god, thank you" Adalynn rushed towards the man, wrapping her arms around him, hugging him tightly "thank you so much"

Buck laughed hugging the girl back.

Adalynn felt a weight lift off her shoulders from the removal of one thing that had been piling up continuously since the move to L.A. Even though Adalynn was younger she felt some kind of debt to the Diaz's- to everyone really and she constantly tried to help everyone's problems around her, even with anyone she knew she felt like she had to help or she'd crumble.

And that feeling only got worse after Makayla's death because Adalynn felt like if she did something, helped somehow- even thought there was no way she could, she thought maybe just maybe if she had done something her best friend would still be alive.

Adalynn finally pulled away from the man, her eyes squeezing shut "Sorry, I've just had so many things to do and, Let's be honest I'm stressing. myself out" she scoffs with a shake of her head "I even thought I should get a dog"

Buck chuckles as he sat on the floor, grabbing the instructions "A dog"

Adalynn held up her hand "Okay, hold the judgment shit-ass nickname giver" she rolled her eyes and picked up the Allen key beside her once she sat down once again.

"Okay, first of all" Buck began, giving the girl a look "I was going to say I've always wanted a dog"

Adalynn scrunched up her nose looking at him "really?" Buck's brows pull together from her shock and almost judgment in her voice.

"Why'd you say it like that?" he questions, picking up the spare Allen key

The Diaz girl shrugs "I don't know, you've got this like Golden Retriever personality to you- I mean could you imagine you with a dog" she laughs looking at him "It'd be pure chaos"

Buck laughs with a shake of his head causing the girl to laugh once again before looking at the Nightstand in front of her, The woman sparing glances everyone once in awhile.

Adalynn laughed from where she stood in the firehouse, looking at her nephew, brows raised "I'm gonna get it this time" she said rather confidently crouching slightly.

"Sure you are" Buck said sarcastically holding a piece of popcorn in his hand,. This had been going on for about five minutes now and there has been popcorn scattered across the floor while the Diaz girl had tried to catch them in her mouth.

"You know what, You're a terrible shot" Adalynn shot back at the man "I bet Christopher could do better then you"

Chimney tossed his head back "Come on, we're gonna be finding popcorn in here for a year"

The brown-eyed girl held her hand up towards the man, her head tilting "Chimney, pal, you're talking a little to much and I'm trying to concentrate"

"Oh so we all think I do this too much" Chimney spoke, using his hands like someone was talking.

Buck frowns with a tilt of his head "We all agree, believe me"

Christopher laughed from the interaction, the young boy leaning forward. Chimney put on the fake offended front as he said "Christopher, I thought we were buddies, what happened?"

"What's this?" Bobby's voice gained the crews attention, Adalynn standing straight from her captains presence "I don't remember asking the chief for reinforcements. You any good with a hose, kid?"

Christopher looked up at the man "I can try"

Bobby nods "Alright"

Eddie had an anxious look on his face as he stood "I'm so sorry, cap. My aunt's trying to get off work early, but until then I.. I didn't know where to take him" He confessed worried on what the man would say.

Bobby's brows pull together "Yeah you did, right here" he motions to the Buckley boy who was still standing with the piece of popcorn in his hands "Buck gave me a heads-up. I already cleared it with the chief"

A smile fell on Adalynn's face as she looked to the blue-eyed man, giving him a nod that so much says 'thank you'

Her attention shifts as the alarm went off "Alright, let's go"

The team begin to get up from their seats swiftly, Adalynn went up to her Nephew, ruffling the boys curly hair "ready to experience being a firefighter!" she says excitingly a wide grin on her face.

"Yeah!" Christopher exclaimed, earning a soft smile from Eddie.

Chimney taps the headset as he spoke "These are great, see, 'cause we can talk to each other" the older man glanced over his shoulder "though sometimes I wish I had a mute button for Buck"

"Don't we all" Adalynn adds, her nose scrunched up.

The engine horn blared loudly Buck looking over his shoulder from the front seat "I'm sorry were you saying something?" he eyed the two, Adalynn just narrowing her eyes at the man with a shake of her head.

"You have a scar on your head" Christopher points at the Han man.

Chimney nods "you're very observant kid. I had an accident, got a big metal rod stuck in my head but the doctors took care of it"

Adalynn made an 'o' shape with her mouth "So, you're the person Buck was trying to brag about to one-up Eddie"

Chimney's mouth falls open, his gaze darting over his shoulder to Buck, sending him a look before looking back to Christopher "Anyways, have you ever had surgery?"

"Two times" Christopher answers, Eddie holds up his fingers "Actually three times"

Chimney frowns "Well, you got me beat, now I feel kinda lame"

"Because you are" Hen pipped in causing a laugh to escape the younger Diaz girls lips.

Hen leans forward in her seat "Your dad ever tell you why we call him Chimney?"

Chimney's face drops with a frantic shake of his head "No, no, no, no" he protests

"I'll tell you later" she whispers to the boy.

After the call that was a only a car collision and once they got back to the station the team continued to try and keep Christopher occupied with the pinball machine and many other things.

Adalynn and Hen helped lower the boy down the fire pole, the boy keeping a wide grin on his face while Eddie and Buck grabbed him from below so he wouldn't fall.

"You're a natural, kid" Chimney comments once the boy hit the ground.

Christopher looked upwards "you go Aunty, Ads!"

The curly haired girl laughed as she stood from her crouched position "Alright, here I come" she sang out before she slide down the pole, Exclaiming once she lands along with Christopher.

She high-fived the boy "You did way better then I did"

Josephina rounded the firetruck, a smile on her face from the boy "Alright, funs over" Eddie states, Buck, Hen, and Chimney all saying goodbye to the young boy.

"Good job today, kiddo" Bobby smiles at the boy as he answers "you too, cap"

Adalynn chuckled before walking up to her aunt placing a kiss on her cheek while Eddie walked Christopher over.

Josephina smiled taking the boys hand once he was close "Hola, Mi amor! okay, vamanos"

Adalynn smiled as her aunt walked away with the boy, Eddie swiftly turned on his feet before giving Bobby a grateful hug "Thanks, cap" he nods before walking back towards Chris and his aunt.

Adalynn opened her apartment door a smile falling on her face "Hi, Liliane, right?"

"Yeah" The woman answers shaking Adalynn's hand with a smile "But you can just call me Lily"

Adalynn nodded and took a breath, walking inside the apartment leaving the door open for her, now potentially new roommate to walk inside.

"So, kitchen, living room, bathroom" she lists off pointing in each direction "And what might be your room, right there"

Lily looked around the apartment a smile on her face "this place is gorgeous"

Adalynn chuckled "Besides from the boxes still packed with all my crap, it is a pretty nice place" she shoves her hands in her back pocket "Um, I usually won't be home often depending on my shifts at the firehouse and you can add whatever you'd like to the place- if you decide to move in"

Lily nodded still looking around the apartment "Um, when could I move in?"

A smile formed on Adalynn's face, her shoulders bunching "Whenever"

The dark haired woman smiled "How about tomorrow?"

Adalynn nods happily "Works for me, oh!" she reaches into her pocket searching for the spare key "here, incase I'm at work still"

Adalynn bit her lip "do you wanna go out get something to eat, get to know each other a little better considering we're going to be living together?"

"Sounds great, anything besides listening to my mother saying I made a huge mistake becoming a police officer" she chuckled out.

Adalynn grabbed her jacket with a laugh "worry-wart mother, trust me I understand, Me becoming a firefighter while my brother served in the military wasn't exactly her favourite choices in careers for us"

The two girls laugh walking out of the apartment.

The team walk through the mall on the upper level Hen walking up to them "Guess they had been working on the escalator overnight, the floor panel on the landing must not have been put back securely" she informs them.

"Daniel, help is here, fire department is here" The distressed woman spoke to the man, Hen placed her arms on the woman to move her "Please tell me he's gonna be okay-"

"We're going to do everything we can" Hen assures "But they're gonna take it over from there, what's his name"

"it's Daniel" she answers

Bobby looks down into the escalator "Hey, Daniel, can you hear me?" once there was no answer Bobby turns to the man beside him "Alright Chim, you're up. Adalynn, go down with him for extra hands"

Chimney nods before dropping into the escalator, Adalynn following down not long after and moving to the other side of the injured man. after a moment or two Chimney shouts up "I got a pulse guys"

Adalynn places a hand on the mans back "Daniel, can you hear me?" she asks Bobby's previous question when there was no answer.

"Ariel" the man mumbles "I need to see Ariel" he goes to move, a pained groan leaving his mouth

Chimney quickly stops him  along with Adalynn "Woah, I need you to stay very still, Okay. But I want you to keep talking to us." Chimney instructs the man before he went to crawl under further to look at his leg.

"I was" Daniel paused, his breathing short "i was proposing to my girl"

Adalynn smiled softly "That's sweet, what'd she say?"

"I think she said yes" Daniel answered, struggling to keep his eyes open.

"Alright Chim, talking to me" Bobby hollers down, Chimney crawls back out standing up "it's not good"

"What happened, why are you stopping?" Ariel questions taking a step forwards but Buck stops her.

Chimney sighs "the chain is sitting on his femoral artery, it's possible it even nicked it"

Adalynn stands up beside Chim, looking at her team members "what should we do?"

"Loosing it might make it worse" Eddie spoke up, gaining their attention "the tension is acting like a tourniquet, could be keeping him from bleeding out"

Bobby nods "Alright let's get him out of there. Chim, tie him off. Hen, get an I.V run it wide open."

Adalynn reached across grabbing what Chimney needed to tie the man off before Chimney went back under.

"Alright, need the bolt cutters" Chimney called up, Adalynn nodded grabbing ahold of them passing them down to Chimney

"Clipping the wires and chain" Chimney informs before cutting the pieces "Adalynn can you give me a hand removing the chain"

Adalynn nodded crawling under the escalator  on the other side "Keep it steady" Chimney instructs, the pairs hands carefully lifting the chain from Daniel's leg, the Diaz girl concentrating not to make the injury any worse then it already was.

Daniel yelled in pain, Chimney talking to him "I know, I know it hurts"

"Just relax we're gonna get you out of here" Adalynn adds as she begins to crawl back out. but his pained screaming doesn't stop

"Just relax" Chimney spoke trying to keep him calm.

Adalynn helps hook up the man while Chimney sets dressings on his wounds. "Alright on three"

Adalynn and Chimney grab ahold of him "One, two three-" they begin to pull him out from under the escalator. Daniel yelled in agony once again.

Buck comes over hooking his arms under the mans armpits pulling him towards the backboard, Chimney climbing out first and Adalynn following.

Applause begin to erupt from the crowd of bystanders while Daniel breathlessly spoke "What did she say?" he asks wanting confirmation on what he thought she had said.

Chimney looked to the woman, who had a blue ring-pop on her finger "I think she said yes, buddy"

Daniel smile quickly faded, a choking sound leaving his mouth Gaining Adalynn's attention.

"Blood pressure is dropping" Hen states Chimney shakes his head "Breathing is shallow" he pulls open the mans eyelid "Daniel can you hear me?"

"I can't find a pulse"

"He's in cardiac arrest" Chimney states, starting compressions on the man.

But as the time went on it didn't seem like the compression were going to make any difference on him. Adalynn took an anxious breath, gnawing on the inside of her cheek.

The monitor flatlining filled Adalynn's ears, causing her face to drop and an almost guilty feeling washing over her for not being able to save him.

"Chim" Hen spoke, sorrowfully but the man continued compressions. Hen placed her hand on his shoulder causing him to finally stop "He's gone"

Ariel rushed towards her fiance, painful sobbing leaving the woman as she rested her head on his chest.

Adalynn took a shaky breath tearing her eyes away from the scene.

Eddie walked through Buck's- well, Abby's apartment confusion covering his features "Thought you said we were helping your sister move? doesn't look like she's packed anything"

Adalynn pressed her lips together, confusion covering her own features "if you wanted to hang out with us, you could've just asked" she teased

Buck gave her a look through narrow eyes but his expression held mischief on it "Oh, all of this is Abby's. I lied about the whole moving thing"

Buck looked between the Diaz's who had the same expression on his face causing him to re-choose his words "I mean- my sister is moving, it's just, she doesn't really have that much stuff"

Eddie looked at the man as he asked "What's going on, Buck?"

Buck put a wide smile on his face "I asked you here 'cause there's someone I want you to meet"

Adalynn's brows pull together before a knowing look covered her face, her own smile creeping it's way on.

Eddie's face falls, glancing at his sister who now had a strange expression on her face "You two didn't set me up did you?"

"Just- just trust me, this woman is exactly what you need" Buck tried to defend.

"Don't think you're helping his suspicion there, Buck" Adalynn added before knocking came from the door.

Eddie looked like he was about to protest but Buck was already heading towards the door.

"Buckaroo!" A woman's voice exclaimed happily, Buck holding his arms out to give the woman a hug "Baby, Ah! goodness, I missed your face"

Buck laughed "I missed you, too! come on in"

Adalynn made her way into the kitchen, Eddie following after her. Adalynn's eyes landing on a short woman with curly dark hair.

"Uh, Eddie, Adalynn this is my friend, Carla" Buck introduced the pair.

Carla holds out her hand "Nice to meet you, Eddie" The older man shakes her hand "Likewise"

Adalynn went and shook the woman's hand after "I've heard about you, the sister her dropped her life and moved out here with her brother"

Adalynn smiled, a slight nod of her head "It's wonderful to meet you"

"Carla is L.A's finest home healthcare aid" Buck explains, getting rid of Eddie's fear that the Buckley man had set him up on a date. "She has years of experience navigating giant bureaucracies, and I thought she could help you figure out how to get Christopher what he needs"

Eddie nods "I'm red tapes worst nightmare" Carla adds with a smirk before she laughs "I'll get you through this in no time"

"You knew about this, didn't you?" Eddie looked at his sister.

Adalynn bunched her shoulders pursing her lips "Maybe I've heard the name just a few nights ago"

Carla clasps her hands together "Now, let's sit down and see what you're working with, besides that perfect bone structure" she utters the last part walking past the man shortly after Eddie following.

Adalynn smiled turning the to man beside her "Nice work there, Buckley"

Buck pretends to bow like he's just finished a play, causing Adalynn to roll her eyes shoving the man "Don't get cocky"
