Second Chances

Natasha's heart ached, the pain, the guilt... She couldn't look at her stillborn daughter without feeling that it was her fault. "I should have stayed in the car." She thinks to herself multiple times. Natasha knew this was all too good to be true. The day she took that pregnancy test she just knew something bad was going to happen along the way. This was it, this was what she had feared. "You were too good anyways." She whispers to the baby in her arm, more tears fell down her cheeks. Bruce was god knows where now and the doctors were busy filling out papers and cleaning everything up. "Too good..." Natasha mumbles as she closes her eyes, continuing to hold her daughter in her arms. She wanted to be sure that somehow her baby knew how much love they have for her, even if she wasn't there to receive it. The room was quiet, with only light chatter from the doctors as they worked together to clean everything. Bruce sits out in the hallway, he couldn't go back in there. It ached, his heart ached. For months he craved to hold his baby, but now he would never get that chance. He wanted to hear them laugh, play and talk. He wanted to see them grow up, go to school, make friends and even start a family of their own someday. Now he won't get that, ever. What felt like years, but was only a handful minutes, Bruce finally gained enough courage to go in and see his wife and stillborn again. He stands up from the stair he was sitting in and took a deep breath. He walks to the door and places a hand on it as he thinks to himself, encouraging himself to go on. Bruce opens the door and looks over where Natasha was still holding their stillborn daughter. However, what he saw brought him into shock. "Natahsa?!" He shouts, "y-you're g-glowing! You're glowing!"

The doctors and nurses were just as scared, huddled together just Incase Natasha was going to try to attack them.

"What?" Natasha looks at Bruce then finally noticed. "Oh my gosh!" She shouts as she looks at her arms. "What's going on!" She looks at her daughter, she was glowing too... She glowed even brighter than Natasha in fact. The color was the same color as the soul stone Bruce had saw when Clint returned from Vormir. It was so bright yet so beautiful. Finally after a few long minutes, the glowing faded away for both girls. Natasha gasps as she looks at her baby. She wanted to scream, to cry... but not in fear, in excitement, in hope.

The small baby in her arm, who was confirmed to be dead at birth, was now breathing. Her chest rose and fell at a steady rate. Natasha moves to check her heart beat. It didn't skip a single beat and didn't show any sign of weakness. "Bruce! Bruce!" She shouts tearfully. "Her heart, she's breathing!!!" She screams. Bruce rushes over, looking at his daughter in hope.

"Miracles happen." He repeats in his head multiple times. "Miracles happen. Miracles happen. Miracles happen." He tears up as he sees her chest moving. "Oh my gosh." He starts to cry tears of joy, trying to wipe them away.

"Sweetie, are you there?" Natasha whispers to her daughter. "Sweetie." She speaks tearfully. Eventually the tiny baby started to move, letting out a whimper as she wanted to sleep. "I'm sorry little thing." Natasha watches her, "I'm very sorry." Bruce watches as well, eager to see her beautiful eyes for the first time.

The baby finally opened her eyes, squinting a little since the lights in the room were so bright. She whimpers again as she looks at Natasha, wondering if she could do anything. Bruce went to go see if he could dim the lightning in the room for her. "Bruce, you're going to miss it." Natasha tells him. Bruce found a way to dim the lights and rushed back over again.

"She's so beautiful Natasha." He smiles brightly. "So beautiful... clearly she got a few things from you."

"How do you know that?" Natasha laughs a little. The baby looked at Natasha when she laughed, she was confused how she did that and ended up giving her the signature death glare Natasha always threw around to her team members when they kissed her off. "Okay, maybe she does." She laughs again.

"Sassy baby." Bruce chuckles, "but still a very kcute baby." He continues to watch his daughter.

"You'll learn sassy thing, don't worry." Natasha tells her as she moves to kiss the top of her head, still tears of joy on Natasha's cheeks. "You'll learn so much, you will." The baby looks over at Bruce curiously, wondering who he was. His voice sounded familiar to her. Natasha watches her, "That's your father, right there." She smiles softly at the little thing. "And I'm your mother, just Incase you didn't know." The baby smiles a little as she looks at Natasha again. "And you're so beautiful. We love you."

"We also need a name." Bruce smiles, "do you have your list in mind?"

"I like the name Anastasia. Along with Elizabeth. Both are names are strong women. I like that." Natasha grins a little, "If she's anything like me, she will need a name to fit it."

Bruce nods as he thinks. "Who's name will she have? Mine or yours?"

Natasha thinks. "Maybe both? Like I'm doing." She replies as she continues to think.

"Elizabeth Anastasia Romanova-Banner?" Bruce speaks out. "How does that sound?"

"It sounds like the best to me." She replies. "Let's do that then." Natasha studies her newborn again. "She's so beautiful..."

Bruce smiles softly, "oh I know. Just like her mother." He then went off to go talk to the nurses and figure out what to do from here. He didn't bring up anything about the glowing however, that's a conversation for only him and Natasha. The couple was led through a few different documents they needed to sign. All went smoothly for them of course. Natasha tried her best to focus on signing them but she was fascinated over her newborn miracle. She just couldn't look away from her daughter. For months she's been wanting for this moment, it may have came earlier than expected but she was still happy to finally have a daughter of her own to care for and to love. Natasha wanted to make sure her daughter grew up with enough love from her parents. Natasha never got a chance to feel that, from what she remembered. Her daughter was innocent about her world around her, Natasha wanted it to stay that way for as long as possible. She knew someday that innocent will be replaced with maturity, but she refused to think about that anymore for time being.

The couple eventually found themselves in their own medical room, completely alone. Natasha finally allowed Bruce to have a turn at holding his newborn daughter. Bruce sat in a chair next to Natasha as he gently cradles little Elizabeth, studying her soft face. "This is the best mistake I have ever made..." he chuckles.

Natasha watches with a soft smile. "She's not a mistake. She's a gift." Natasha watches them. "Without her, who knew what we would have become..."

"I think we would have still tested the waters with each other, maybe not get married as fast as we did." Bruce shrugs.

Natasha grins a little, "I had to make sure you weren't going to leave me to raise her for myself. I know you're too scared to leave me if we're married."

"Well... that one time..." Bruce leads off, sharing a grin with his wife.

"We weren't married that time." Natasha quickly replies, "doesn't count."

"Okay, I guess you're right." Bruce finally gives in.

"When am I not?" Natasha questions.

"Oh hush." Bruce looks at the little baby in his arms again. "We're going to need some very tiny clothes for her... Maybe not for now since she'll be staying here for a bit."

"Wait what?" Natasha looks at him like he had just confessed a big secret. "Stay here? I..."

Bruce looks at her, knowing where this will be going. "She's still a premie even if your weird glowing thing brought her back. She's too weak to take on the world."

Natasha thinks for a moment, she did not want to leave her baby in a hospital. That's the worst idea anybody had ever came up with. "For how long? A few days?"

"Months." Bruce corrects her. "It all depends on her charts. If she does well then maybe they'll let her go home early."

"What do we need to do to make sure they're there?" Natasha questions, determined to get her daughter out as soon as possible.

"Well, she'll need to be able to maintain her own body heat and not have any issues. All we can do is make sure she gets the attention she deserves and she is cared for property. She's very tiny so it may be a while."

Natasha nods, "fine... I'll try to wait it out. I'll try. But for now, we're alone so we need to talk about her. We really need to. All that glowing, she was glowing too."

Bruce looks at Natasha, it was about time. "I was thinking about that. I bet she has your powers now... I really do."

"If she does, what should we do then?" Natasha questions. "Should we hide them? Or her?"

"We'll work with her and teach her how to use them and not to be afraid of them." Bruce replies. "If we hide them and she finds out what they are then she'll question our trust with us."

Natasha listens to Bruce, putting this into consideration. She looks over at her newborn. "For now, lets just wait and see if our thoughts are correct. If she does have my powers then we'll come up with a plan. For now let's just focus on making sure she's healthy and gets out of this hell hole."

"Nat, it's not a hell hole." Bruce shakes his head with a small grin.

"Yes it is." Natasha grins back as she moves to take her daughter back.

Bruce just shakes his head as he hands the little baby back to her, "whatever you say." He smiles as he watches Natasha hold the little baby girl. "Honestly, I think being a mother suits you."

"Really?" Natasha raises a brow. "How is that?" She huffs.

"I don't know, maybe dealing with the Avengers for years trained you for a moment like this. It suits you." Bruce explains. "I think it really does."
