Marlene's Relatives
Marlene had wrote to him fourteen days ago asking him to meet her parents as her boyfriend. At first it hadn't seemed like such a big deal. Sirius has met her family before, so it should be a breeze, but then he read further into her letter.
...
Marlene had gotten home from shopping with her mum accompanied by many bags and a blush. Her mum sent her up to her room to write to Sirius about coming over, so that's exactly what she would be doing.
Dear Sirius,
Myles told my mum. No, the frog death threats weren't enough to stop him. I think he just has a big mouth and can't restrain himself. Although, I had tried my hardest to kill Marcus's frog.
My mum was thrilled! Took me out for pampering and a shopping day! It was fantastic? I was terribly surprised by my mother's wonderful taste in clothing and she has the best gossip you've ever heard.
So, here's why I'm writing to you. Besides the fact that you're my boyfriend and I miss you a whole lot. She decided since you have met my family, that I should invite you over when all of my aunts come over with my grandmother. (My mum's side of the family is having a mini reunion.)
I wanted to warn you because they are very obnoxious and they don't have filters. This means that if you can come on July 15, they will tell you every single thing they're thinking. Every. Single. Thing. If you don't come I won't be offended, I can hardly deal with them myself.
Think about it. My mum said you'd come at around noon and leave after dinner if that suits your schedule. As far as I know the only thing that's on your schedule is Quidditch, unless the lovely Euphemia forces you out of the house.
Love,
Marly
...
Present time, Sirius was pacing his shared room with James, who had begun to think his friend had gone mad. He didn't understand how big of a deal it was, as long as Sirius didn't royally fuck it up, he was fine.
"What's the big deal Pads? You're going to be fine!" James got off his bed and passed Sirius to sit down at his desk, where a half written letter sat.
"You're being very insensitive right now!" Sirius continued pacing, not stopping when he stubbed his toe on his bed. This impressed James to the point of almost actually caring what his friend was stressing about. It wasn't that big of a deal.
"Okay fine. What are you worried about?" James turned in his chair to fully face him.
"Her brothers are going to eat me alive!" Sirius shouted, not hearing the laugh from Euphemia as she passed the closed door.
"No, I think they'll kill you first." At this time he turned back around to face the parchment and the pen Lily had sent him.
"Not helping Prongs!"
"I'm sorry I'm just having trouble understanding what you're so scared of, seeing as you've already met Marly's parents. How much worse can her extended family be? And it's not like either of you care about other people's opinions."
Sirius sighed and stopped pacing for a moment.
"Imagine you're dating Lily, which shouldn't be too hard since you do it all the time anyway." Sirius grinned at the glare he received.
"Wow low blow, Pads, real low blow there. Any lower and you would've been eating my shit for lunch!"
Euphemia took it in her hands to break up the bickering before it went any further. As much as she found it amusing, they were getting rather loud and she slightly feared they would set something on fire like last time.
"Oi! Knuckleheads!"
The bickering stopped at once, the only people who grab their attention like that were her and Minnie.
"Sirius, it's about time you stop arguing and went over to the McKinnon's. If you went over now, you'd be early, which would be a good first impression."
The boy she was directly talking to had nodded and walked out the door behind her.
"Good luck mate!" James called after him.
"You have a date with the garden. The gnomes really getting out of hand! Ginger got bit by one bringing me tea!"
"But Mum I'm writing!"
"Yeah and the house-elves are getting bitten by gnomes! Stop being a spoiled rich boy and get outside!" Euphemia chuckled at the response she was given as she walked out of the room.
"I am a spoiled rich boy!"
...
Sirius apparated to the McKinnon household. He would have flooed, but he didn't want to get ash and soot all over himself before he was supposed to make a good impression.
When he rang the doorbell there were thunderous footsteps, obnoxious shouts, and he could even hear faint curse words. Marcus opened the door with a broad grin on his face just like usual, nothing had changed there.
"Hey there mate! We've been expecting you!" Marcus opened the door the rest of the way to reveal their house.
It reminded Sirius of Grimmauld Place, in fact it wasn't too far away from there. There was the same old charm minus the house elf heads hanging from the wall.
All the McKinnon house-elves had kept their heads on their bodies. For ones that died, Marlene and Eve held a short service for in the backyard with the rest of the elves.
He shook the hand of Michael, and then Myles, who looked more reluctant. That was the result of something that was unknown to Sirius. It couldn't be the fact that he was dating his sister, no way!
The further he got into the house, the more personalized it got. It was that way in many Wizarding families. One would keep more expensive paintings and knick knacks on display near their general dining area, in case they would invite an important family over. Family pictures, kids awards, and anything specific to them, was kept near the bedrooms, away from where the guests would see. It was seen as professional.
Sirius had just chuckled at a picture of the four siblings, when someone practically bowled him over.
"Merlin Marly! That was uncalled for!" He said the stern statement with a grin and a chuckle. She noted how good he looked in his jeans, maybe she would tell him later.
"Nope totally called for. You were laughing at my baby picture!" They both stood up and she was now holding the picture against her chest with a fake pout.
"But look at you! Marcus looks disgusted, Myles looks confused and Michael does not know how to hold a child!"
They laughed together. Darwin watched the encounter with a wide grin on his own face. He might've been more cautious had it been another guy, but it was Sirius and he could do no harm. Especially to Marlene.
He clapped Sirius on the shoulder and nodded towards Eve, so that Marlene would get the hint and join her mother.
"How've you been son?"
Sirius was still surprised every time an adult was nice to him, it wasn't what he was used to. He also flinched when they did friendly gestures, like clapping him on the shoulder.
"Life at the Potter's is good."
He meant it. When he was younger more than anything he wanted a good, stable family life. That's now what he had.
"That's good. What've you been doing all summer so far?"
They sat in the common room across from each other on separate couches. Sirius sat next to Marcus. Myles and Michael were nowhere to be found.
"The usual, degnoming the garden, playing quidditch. The other day, we volunteered at St. Mungo's." He said the last thing hoping it would catch their attention.
"Remember when I did that Dad?" Darwin chuckled.
"Couldn't forget it. He set a patient on fire! Needless to say, he's not allowed to volunteer there anymore."
They went on this way for a while. Mentioning funny occurrences with some sarcasm and witty comments sprinkled in. Sirius didn't need to, but he was definitely charming them, just like everyone else he met.
Marlene entered the room looking proper flustered and uncomfortable. The truth was, she just heard some stories from her aunts that made her toes curl. She could've died happy without hearing them.
"Sirius, come meet my Aunt Bec, Aunt Cheryl, Aunt Deb and Gramma El."
Hand in hand they walked into the kitchen where her aunts and grandmother sat around the table. A cup of tea in hand.
"I like your skirt Marls." He had managed to make her blush deeper, even if they had been dating for ___ months.
She was wearing a loose, black leather skirt that reached her lower thigh. Marlene also wore a white polo tucked into her skirt. Her outfit had enough personality to still be considered her style, yet not enough for her relatives to raise their eyebrows at.
Eve greeted him warmly while every other woman appeared to be sizing him up. He took a deep breath before sitting down at the table while Marlene helped her mum finish preparing the snacks.
The woman he sat next to, he assumed was Gramma El because she looked the oldest. Her bright white hair reached her waistline and her red spectacles sat on the tip of her nose. The baby blue dress reached her calf unwrinkled.
She didn't skip a beat in her knitting, completely unbothered by the fact that Sirius had just sat next to her. He appreciated this since Marlene's aunts dropped all conversation and just stared at him. Offering them an uneasy smile seemed like the best he could do.
"Marlene."
"Yes, Aunt Cheryl?" Marlene walked over to Sirius's chair and put her arms on the back of it.
Aunt Cheryl was the woman sitting directly across from him, Sirius noted. Her defining characteristics were a completely shaved head and many, many tattoos. It seemed like some of them were muggle tattoos and some were wizard.
"You chose a boy with longer hair." Sirius shifted uncomfortably in his chair.
"Sure did."
Marlene put on a very confident front. One her aunts could not see through. This happened often when she was at school, Marlene always appeared to be confident. Only a few people could see through it.
"Oh, shut up Cheryl. He looks like a nice boy, Marlene obviously has taste. Do you get good marks at school?" The woman that sat to Cheryl's left spoke up.
She looked the youngest. Not one wrinkle lined her face and her warm smile made her look like a people person. She had light brown hair that reached her shoulders and pale blue eyes.
"Yes ma'am."
"You're right Deb. He does look like a nice boy, but he looks oddly familiar. Maybe we went to school with your parents, dear. What's your surname?" The last woman said, which would make her Aunt Bec.
Sirius should have seen this coming. He wasn't totally prepared for what their reactions would be, but he was reassured when Marlene put a hand on his shoulder.
"Black."
"I'm sorry dear. I think I heard you wrong." Bec said.
She had her platinum blonde hair pulled up into a bun and her dark blue eyes sparkled behind her black circular glasses. She was a thin woman who had a very defined jawline and cheekbones.
"My surname is Black." Sirius stated again.
El started to laugh at the shocked looks on their faces. As their mother, she knew that their reactions would be that way. Before Sirius got there, Marlene had told El everything there was to know about him. She decided he wasn't the perfect boy, but he was good for Marlene.
Marlene had a much closer relationship with her Gramma El than her aunts. She had spent weeks with her on the farm she owned, riding horses and milking cows.
Aunt Cheryl had married a muggle and Marlene had seen the least of her since then. She was six when her aunt got married. Cheryl worked in a wizard tattoo parlor, which might've been why she had so many tattoos in the first place.
Her aunt Bec was the least judge mental out of her aunts, so she hadn't even gasped when he said his surname. She nodded and trusted that Marlene was dating someone who was on the right side of the war.
Aunt Bec was the oldest sister. Then Marlene's mum, her aunt Cheryl came next and Aunt Deb after her.
"I went to school with Orion. Same year, just different houses." Eve set down a plate of cheese and crackers on the table and sat down next to Deb. "And Darwin went to school with Walburga, they were in the same house."
"I always forget Dad is five years older than you Mum." Marlene said while she sat next to Sirius after giving El a glass of ice water.
"So, what house are you in Sirius?" Bec asked in an effort to include him in conversation.
"Gryffindor."
"Ah, he defied his family. Smart one he is." Cheryl said.
Many hours passed as did stories. They each took turns telling stories of their time at Hogwarts, including but not limited to; secret snogs in broom cupboards, failed tests, lost points, and dyed hair. Sirius and Marlene told stories of their own; only the tamer prank stories had made it in the conversation, the sporadic study session in the library led by Lily, and the occasional story from their childhoods was thrown into the mix.
The house-elves had busied themselves in the kitchen despite the throaty laughter at the table. They were named after elements of nature or weather. Rain, Snow, Cloud, Petal and Dirt were on kitchen duty. Marlene's personal favorite was Dirt and she had to try not to laugh everytime she summoned her.
Soon, each elf presented a different dish to be served for dinner. Rain brought chicken, Snow brought a pitcher of iced tea, Cloud brought a bowl of salad, Petal brought a bowl of strawberries, and Dirt brought a plate of treacle tart for later.
Sirius, Darwin, Marlene and the boys participated in a conversation about quidditch. Dishing out the top scores and latest injuries. The rest of the women talked gossip. Covering the newest arrivals to pureblood families and most dramatic stories from the Witch Weekly.
After nine hours of conversing with the McKinnon family, it was time for Sirius to leave. Marlene walked him to the door, but not before everyone had said their goodbyes. With Cheryl apologizing for being so judgemental earlier on.
The two teens exhaled deeply at the same time and then laughed together. They sat down on the porch step outside, just admiring the cars that drove past and the bright stars that shone above them.
"How're you supposed to get home?" Marlene rested her head on his shoulder.
"I'll just apparate."
"Oh. Sometimes I forget all my friends are seventeen already."
They spoke softly. The wind almost whistled louder than them.
"I'll miss you," she spoke when they both stood.
"Don't. My star is right up there." Sirius pointed up at the Sirius star he was named after. "Just look at my star."
"That's not the same, but I guess it'll do. Thank you for meeting my crazy family." He smiled softly while walking backwards down the steps.
"Love, they're nothing like my genetic family. Just imagine if you'd have to meet them." He shuddered, getting farther away very slowly, like he didn't want to leave.
"Good thing you have the Potters then. Write to me soon." He nodded, then turned and he was gone. Marlene was about to go back inside when a voice spoke from her left.
"Why didn't you say I love you?" It turned out to be her Gramma El sitting on the porch swing, rocking slowly back and forth.
"We haven't gotten that far yet. You see, there's this thing called commitment issues." Her grandmother nodded.
"Indeed there is. I can see that you both love each other, but you're too scared to say anything. You'll say it to each other soon."
"I hope so."

Author's Note:
This entire chapter was centered around Blackinnon and was kind of boring to be honest. I still hope you enjoyed it!
Today was my first day of school, which sucks because now I won't have as much time to be on Wattpad. I'll update when I can, but bear with me!
Lmao anyways thanks for reading
