A Day in the Life

Summer days can be spent many different ways. Take the example from the eight friends the story revolves around.

Alice was spending the day with Frank trying desperately to win his mother's approval. She likes to be liked and his mum will be no exception.

Mary was working at a local grocery store, where she bagged and scanned groceries from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Then, she came home to her younger sister and her grandparents.

Marlene spent the day with her brothers playing Quidditch despite her mother's protests and multiple suggestions of what she could be doing instead. After dinner, she would tend to the many letters that had accumulated on her desk.

Peter was never home during the day, he would give his mother lies and tell his friends in a letter that she was sick and he needed to care for her. Only a few people actually knew what he was doing.

Remus was trying his best to be kind to his parents and converse with them about normal things. The only problem was that his family had not been normal since he was the age of four. His father had turned to alcohol to cope and his mother never truly understood what Remus had to go through every month.

The dynamic duo could not be separated, whether it was annoying James's mother in the house or asking James's father about his time in the Auror office, they were creating havoc. What else could you expect from them?

Lily was hanging on. She wanted Petunia to love her like she used to and she wanted her mother to engage with her like normal, but something had shifted when she met Henry.

...

Petunia huffed with dissatisfaction for what seemed like the hundredth time that day. Lily was wearing a shorter yellow dress and her hair was done in two French plaits, looking truly happy for the first time in a while. Let's see what her sister could do to change that.

"Mum said she might elope." Lily looked up from the morning newspaper and took another sip of coffee.

"Is that so?"

"Yes it is! I don't want you ruining it either, her happiness is-" Lily stood up abruptly.

"I don't want you getting the wrong idea about me, I'm not trying to make mum suffer. Despite your beliefs, I love mum and I'll do anything to make her happy. If that means she's marrying the bastard, then so be it!"

Lily had the full intention of running all the way up the three flights of stairs to her "new" room. The room that Henry and her mum had chosen in the mansion was rather big and Lily didn't believe she needed a room that size. She wanted something with character and that wasn't something this house had, just like how it didn't have the memories. She skidded to a halt when she saw a familiar face sitting on the sofa speaking to her mum and Henry over morning tea.

The woman wore her long hair in a low, tight bun behind her head, like usual, but she was dressed in perfect muggle clothing. A emerald green suit looked odd on her Transfiguration professor, but when she winked at Lily, she took it as her cue to leave the room and opted out of asking any questions, for the time being.

...

James and Sirius had been ushered outside by his mother because of a Ministry meeting. They sat directly under the hot sun when it was at its highest point in the sky and wondered what could make this any better.

"Mate, what's the date?"

"It's June 20. I can't wait to go back to Hogwarts," James sighed reveling in a time where they didn't have to worry about the outside world.

"Me too. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I miss Marlene," he grimaced at his words while his friend grinned. "I never thought I could be totally co dependent on someone else."

"Neither did I, I just assumed you'd hop from woman to woman the rest of your life." That earned him a smack on his arm.

...

Remus watched his mother busy herself in the kitchen, making what seemed like the fourth dessert that day. His father could be seen already opening a bottle of whiskey at one o'clock.

He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair, the full moon would be there in a week and his mates couldn't make it, so it would be a particularly hard one. He didn't want his parents to have to lock him up in the old garage again, but he wasn't at Hogwarts and he didn't have anyone to keep him company.

"What's wrong dear?" He put on his best fake smile, one his own mum had not learned how to see through, or perhaps she didn't want to see through it.

"Nothing Mum. Just wondering what you're making is all."

This caused her to go into a rant about how they didn't have enough eggs, how they never had enough eggs and probably would never buy enough eggs. Remus just left to go to the grocery store instead of listening to the full thing.

...

Peter shook as he walked through the neighborhood. He shouldn't be doing this, that much he knew, but not having to have someone to hide behind was good for him. He felt he was in control of his future. Sirius and James couldn't tell him what to do anymore, he was a new man, much stronger than before.

He arrived home with a disgusting smile on his face, one that could make heads turn and grimace at the sight. His Mum immediately rushed over to him as he walked into the door.

"Where were you? I haven't seen you in three damn days! Peter, you better explain yourself!" He lies rather quickly, it was a skill he had just perfected.

"I was at James's, he's taking this war thing very harsh. You know how he has older parents and he was just worried, I wanted to be there for him. I thought that you would understand." He looked up at his mother guilt free, he knew as soon as he spoke the last bit that all would be forgiven.

"I'll bake them some bread! They'll need the pick me up!"

...

The quaffle whirred directly past Michael's head into the makeshift keeper hoops they had put up, many years ago. The McKinnon house was not quite a manor, but it was big, old and expensive.

"Merlin. Marls, I thought you were a beater! You've scored like more than half the goals so far." Michael whined, he had only come home  today because there was no Order meeting, of course, he couldn't tell Marlene this.

"She's probably getting chaser lessons from Potter," Myles said slyly, flying up behind them, also home because there was no Order meeting . Marlene fake retched.

"Nope, definitely not dating him, he's like a cousin to me, probably is somehow." She looked at the far off trees before her third brother could add something to the conversation.

"Does that mean it isn't a rumor that you're dating his brother Black instead?" Marcus smirked and arched an eyebrow at his younger sister.

"No, it isn't a rumor," she mumbled and flew to the ground, intending to skip the next part of the interrogation and lock herself in her room, far away from all people.

However, her three brothers also knew how to work their brooms and were down there right next to her with their arms slung across each other's shoulders.

"How come you didn't tell Mum then?" Myles asked with a smirk.

"Do you know how stupid of a question that was? She would make such a big deal over the whole thing and it would scare him the fuck away!"Marlene nearly yelled. "Believe it or not, I actually like him and I don't want anyone, especially you three, to ruin that!"

"I guess to get rid of the bloke we have to tell Mum," Michael smiled widely as he spoke.

Her three brothers took off running towards the door with Marlene chasing behind them screeching curse words at the top of her lungs.

...

Mary had almost yelled at the very least five customers and was very close to punching her bad mouthed manager. She hadn't looked up from the register when she heard a familiar voice startle her.

"Mary?" She brushed her hair behind her ear and looked up, seeing Remus Lupin's face made her smile more than she would care to admit.

"Remus, what're you doing here?" Mary asked with good-nature.

He handed her the eggs to scan.

"Buying eggs for my mum. She was complaining about how she didn't have any, so I thought I'd just buy some," Remus shrugged.

She smiled as she hit a few buttons on the register.

"What a nice gesture," Mary spoke genuinely. "That'll be one pound."

He almost handed her a galleon before realizing this was the muggle world and he needed to pay with their money. Remus might be smart, but he was forgetful sometimes.

He handed her the money, yet he didn't immediately turn away to leave, no one else was in line, so he thought talking to someone his age might be nice.

"When's the next furry little problem?" Mary asked casually, hoping she didn't cross an invisible line.

He chuckled at the nickname for his "condition," as his parents called it.

"You know, some people at Hogwarts are under the impression I own a badly behaved rabbit," Remus shook his head with a smile on his face. "Anyway, it should hit in about a week, but the boys can't make it, so it'll be a tough one."

Mary sighed and wiped down the counter.

"I was afraid you might say that. After, if you want, you should come and check in with me, I want to make sure you'll be alright. I'm not as great as Poppy or Lily, but I can try and heal some stuff too."

"I'll write to you, we'll figure it out."

Remus said, turning to leave.

"Bye, Lupin."

"Bye, Macdonald."

...

Augusta loved Alice Fortescue and honestly couldn't wait for her to eventually become Alice Longbottom, but she wanted to make Alice sweat, so she wouldn't make these feelings known. Her interrogation had started when Alice came over to their house during holiday break, but it was continuing right now.

"So you want to become an Auror like Frank?" Alice beamed over her teacup.

"Yes, that's the dream. I really want to make a difference in the world and that seems like just the way to do it, to fight!"

Yes, Augusta Longbottom loves this young woman, but make sure to keep this a secret from the young woman we're speaking about.

...

"Professor McGonagall! What are you doing here?" Lily demanded in a room nobody used off to the side.

"Listen closely, Miss Evans. I am here under strict orders from Dumbledore and I cannot tell you why I am here, unfortunately." She talked sternly, but her usual steady tone wasn't there. Her eyes kept skirting around the room they were in, she seemed to be looking for something.

"Does that mean I can or can't tell my friends that you're hear?"

"As long as Potter doesn't show up at the door step with Black you can tell them," she turned to walk swiftly away, but remembered she needed to say something else. "Act as if you don't know me, that's how Albus wants it."

...

Mary,

How about July 1st? That will give me enough time to recover from most of my injuries, so you won't have to see the worst of it. I'll meet you at the end of your shift then if that sounds okay.

Remus

...

Author's Note:

Alright, be honest did you like the first chapter of the sequel? I wrote this a while ago and originally only had the Lily, James, Sirius and Marlene parts, but added the other four later on.

Do you guys ship Rary? (Remus x Mary) I do and I was kind of wondering if you guys would like it if I included it in this book. Originally, I hadn't planned for them to be a thing, but things change I guess. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I'll be at tennis for the next three hours, so I probably won't respond to anyone until after that!

Lmao anyways thanks for reading
