➳The Orange Mansion
-a short story-
Orange is such an obnoxious color.
Which is why I don't understand why this is the color that my neighbor chose to paint his humongous house that almost seems like a mansion.
An obnoxious color for an obnoxiously large house...
All the houses in the rest of the neighborhood are covered in a good shade of light green. Such a lovely, peaceful color for a lovely, quiet neighborhood.
The orange mansion, as everyone likes to call it, is such a painful eyesore to our uniform color.
If orange was a sound, it would be loud and noisy.
If orange was a taste, it would be unbearably sweet.
If orange was a smell, it would be annoyingly citrusy.
So why orange? Why bother with that color at all?
I stare at the structure with disgust, like everyone else who passes by.
Until the man in a blue jacket came to town.
That blue jacket, that blue color, another thing out of place in our lovely, peaceful, quiet neighborhood. He must not be from here.
"This home!" He exclaimed. "What a wonderful home! Such a pleasant warm shade of color it has. Such a unique home! Fits perfectly in this green neighborhood.
"Like a fire on top of a candle... the Moon in the night sky... Simply marvelous! It all goes well so perfectly well together!"
I stopped in my tracks. I stared at the orange mansion.
It's as if the mansion shone in a new light.
I now see... how the orange isn't as obnoxious as it seems. It's a warm shade indeed. I gazed at it more, now I can't look away. And as I look at it, I don't look at it with disgust anymore. But rather... with pride.
Orange is a pleasant color, as pleasant as green. No, orange is pleasant WITH green.
Maybe difference isn't so bad after all.

A/N: Another writing challenge from the podcast:"Start with this"
This time I have to write something within the time limit of 10-15 minutes. The thing here is to work fast.
Then come back to it after a few days to edit.
I'm pretty proud of this to be honest ☺️ although I didn't edit it much, I feel like I don't want to, I just want to keep it as it is.
