Prologue

Fire was everywhere the young Hale girl looked as she watched her family's home burn, her bag hung loosely on her arm, her family's screams trying to get out of the burning home filled her ears, screams that will haunt her forever.

The once happy ten year old girl now stood with tears filling her eyes and staining her cheeks. Harper never really thought a tragedy like this would ever happen especially not today, not on her birthday.

Footsteps approaching gained her attention as she slowly turned around to see Derek and Laura faintly in the distance whatever happiness the two had would quickly disappear.

Harper quickly breaks off into a sprint, running as fast as her small legs could carry her. She grabs ahold of Derek's arm as she try's to pull him the opposite way "We have to go, now!"

"Harper what's going on?" Laura crouched down to eye level of the girl the two siblings look at her with furrowed. noticing the dried tear stains on the young girls face.

Derek's head shot up most likely hearing the screams that once surrounded the young girl as he runs down the path his eyes land on the fire he stood there for a moment in shock before he dropped to the ground eyes wide before the tears start to fall.

Harper and Laura run up to him and Laura was frozen, Harper turned to them a distraught look covering her features "I don't know what happened I swear I don't know" she spoke through her sobs

Laura nodded her head with glossy eyes "I know Harper, I- we know"

Harper looked between Derek and Laura before her eyes land on the burning home once again. Derek got up and was about to run into the house to try and save them, Die with them.

Laura quickly caught on to what her brother was trying to do and grabbed his wrist, but he quickly ripped his arm away.

Laura ran up and wrapped her arms around his torso holding him stopping him from doing the suicide mission he was keen on doing. Derek thrashed around trying to break free but Laura held onto her brother tightly

"Derek stop, there's nothing that we can do we have to go!" Laura almost yelled Derek started to give up as the smoke started to get thicker and the flames danced around the Hale house Harper stared at the house hoping that her parents would emerge out the door and run up to her but they never did.

"We can't just leave them!" Derek yelled

"Derek listen to me there's nothing we can do, We have to go. We need to think about Harper now, she needs us" Laura's voice cracked slightly

Those words rattled in Derek's mind as he stopped fighting he looked to the girl who's eyes were fixated on the house watching it burn, listening to the screams of the people she loved.

Laura let go of Derek as he walked forward up to the girl wrapping his arms around her hugging her tightly before taking her hand as they ran down the path where Derek and Laura we previously laughing and didn't look back not for a second.

All that matter now was to protect each other.
