Chapter One

Prince Roman and Prince Remus were twins, ruling over the land of Hyrule. Well, almost ruling. Prince Remus was to reign when he came of age. Unfortunately, the aforementioned prince was not fond of this information. He escaped out on the town as often as he could during the day, much to his royal advisor's distaste.
He often entered his brother's chambers to plan escape routes. One day, however, it was different.
It was a chill Wednesday night and, as on his schedule, Prince Roman was admiring the village from afar in the dead of night. The moonlight reflected the marble platform beneath his feet as Roman leaned over the railing on his balcony, the cool air blowing in his face. The sanctity of it all was ruined, however, by the closing of his door from inside his room. Remus was almost always in his room at this time of night to scheme with him. Roman quite enjoyed it. Tonight, Remus snuck in quietly and the door to Roman's closet could be heard opening a few moments later. Roman turned to investigate and saw Remus carrying an armful of scarves.
"Put a shirt on! We're going to be pirates!" Remus plopped down on Roman's bed and began tying the scarves together end to end.
"What are you doing? Those are mine." Roman entered his room and closed the doors to the balcony. The cold air flow into the room stopped.
"You say that as if I'm an idiot. I have a bag of food and water, as well as matches, clothes, and a calendar. You can lose track of the days at sea."
"Remus, are you really proposing we steal a ship and become pirates? Tonight? On impulse? In our pajamas? Without so much as a plan?" Roman wrapped a robe around himself.
"Of course not! I have a plan," Remus responded. "We round up a group of villagers I've found after tying these scarves to the balcony and climbing down. They all volunteered to join our crew."
"OUR crew?? You really think I'm just going to throw on a shirt and trust you blindly? Why would I when I have everything I need here?? You see, the people actually like me. I'm respected as a man of honor. I have a better chance at reigning as king well than you and anyone else combined! I am this close to ruling over this kingdom better than any king has before!" Roman spat.
Remus paused. "You promised. You promised me we would take on everything together. If you want to stay and be conformed by society on which fork to use, fine. I bet dear old mumsy and dadsy will forget your name by Friday if they don't have me to differ," Remus pulled a knot tight and stood, grabbing his bag. "Make up your mind by 5. We'll be long gone by sunrise." With that, he threw open the doors to the balcony and tied the scarves to the railing. "It's been fun." Was all he said before jumping to the ground, leaving Roman to his own thoughts.

A soft thump emitted when Remus hit the ground, and he pulled on the hood of his cloak, so as not to be seen by guards. He ducked into the forest outlining the village and branches off on a path leading West into a small clearing. Four people were gathered there.
Two sat talking in the middle of the clearing. Both men, one older and one younger. The older had round glasses and unruly hair that was caked with flour. He was a local baker and farmer named Patton and had become fast friends with the older Prince. The younger had straight, dark hair and mismatched eyes. Remus didn't know much about him.
Another person, about the same age as Patton or older, was crouched near a bush. He seemed to be studying a snake. His large birthmark down the left side of his face was visible in the moonlight.
Remus about made out the fourth figure, secluded behind a few trees. His nose was stuck in a book, as always. His boxy glasses slipped down his nose. This man was Logan Williams, Remus's royal advisor. Logan was quick to accept his offer to run away, which was much a surprise to Remus. He brought out three stacks of books on adventures, medieval pirates, and ships as soon as Remus brought up the topic. He was currently on his last book.
Remus cleared his throat and stood up on a tree stump. "Hello, fellow pirates!"
A murmur of greeting covered the area.
"Our plan is as follows! Janus leads us in getting our boat!" Remus pointed to the man by the bush. "Patton will be our chef!"
    Patton waved enthusiastically.
"Logan will sail, being he is the only one who knows anything about boats!" Remus pointed to Logan, who was smirking.
"We may have another crew member coming, but I shouldn't get my hopes up," Remus shrugged. "We get the ship, leave before dawn, and avoid the guard ships! Easy enough!"
"Well," Logan interjected. "The guards have specialized ships just for this purpose."
    "What purpose?" Patton looked over.
"To bring the heirs back to the castle if they ever were to go missing or get kidnapped. They have certain cannonballs that are light enough to not hurt passengers, but strong enough to rip a hole through the sail to stop it from catching wind."
"Quit being a nerd and speak English!" Remus crossed his arms.
Logan sighed. "Big ship with big protect people come and get you with special boom boom tubes that stop us from going whoosh across the water."
Remus pointed at him. "That's not good. How do we stop that?"
"We go now, so we're long gone by morning."
Despite what Roman said, Remus was counting on him to join. They had planned this for years, and said plan required both twins. Remus depended on Roman to keep him sane. They were practically conjoined, for God's sake. He couldn't just leave him behind!
The man with mismatched eyes brought him out of his train of thoughts by waving a hand in his face. "Hey. Hey, rat."
    Remus looked up. "Hm?"
"We need to leave. I hear guards or something in the trees." The man, who was introduced as Virgil by Patton, pointed to the forest.
Sure enough, the rustling in the trees got louder every second. It only sounded like one person, though.
Remus rushed the group into the dense trees surrounding the clearing. He stayed in sight, just in case.
An exhausted prince trudged into the clearing, much to Remus's delight. "Count me in."
