Super super super long chapter!!! I'm excited about it though!! Hope y'all enjoy.
Georgia's POV
"Okay this is it."
I open the door quickly and step out the car. Breathing in the fresh woodsy scent, I sigh. Looking all around, I see nothing but beautiful colored trees. There was a calm and peaceful feeling.
It felt safe here.
We all walk up to the small white house that had a huge wood porch. A large white swing was on one end of the porch opposite to a few lawn chairs. Beautiful white roses were all around in the bushes surrounding the house. As we make our way inside, I can't help but wonder how Rebecca was going to come with switching from a city girl to farmhouse country girl.
Rebecca and Jamie had already been here a few weeks ago to put together the rooms and bring all the furniture and appliances. I let the two do whatever they wanted to put together my room... I trusted them.
Hopefully I like what they came up with.
Beau holds the door open as his mom and I walk through the front. I stare at the inside of the cute little farmhouse in awe. It was unique and quaint. It was different. I needed different.
Rebecca leads us upstairs and shows us her room then Beau's. As we finally get to my hallway, I feel butterflies in my chest. I hoped that this would be a place to stay. A place to call home.
She opens the door and I gasp as I walk into the dimly lit cozy room. She had tapestry and fairy lights on the wall. In one corner was a crochet chair that hung from the ceiling. My pictures of my mom and dad, and also Beau, Jamie, and Rebecca had been pinned all over a singular black wall. There was a cute wooden desk with a rolling chair. It was everything that I wished for. And had saved on Pinterest.
"Well what do we think?"
I turn around and quickly squeeze Rebecca into a hug. She sighs and drops her chin onto my shoulder, hugging me back tightly.
"It's everything I've ever wanted. Thank you so much."
"Of course honey."
She pulls back and holds onto my shoulder smiling, "I think this is going to be good for you. For us. All of us. We need a fresh start."
I nod.
Ever since the Sawyers ruined my life I had been a totally different person. My attitude changed. My care for school changed.
My care for anything changed.
I turned into a stone cold dead girl who just walked around like a zombie and picked a fight with anyone who looked at me wrong. Thank goodness Rebecca had adopted me and moved us down here. I think without her and Jamie I would've been lost.
"This is far away from too many wandering nosy eyes. Not a lot of people live here in this town. Which is great. It's far off from the city..."
I tune Rebecca out as she talks.
Secluded.
I needed secluded. You couldn't get more secluded than Forks.
"Did you hear me?"
Beau waves a hand in-front of my face.
"What?"
He chuckles and bumps my shoulder, "I said later we can take a walk around and see what the rest of this town looks like."
I smile and nod, "Sounds like a plan."
Rebecca turns to leave my room but quickly turns back, "Don't forget we're having dinner tonight at my brother's."
Beau and I nod before pushing each other trying to get out the door.
I love Beau and Rebecca with all my heart. They both saved me when I wanted to scream out for help but couldn't. I honestly don't know where I would be without them right now. I think back to that gut wrenching day when Rebecca and Jamie found me.
Rowan had been trying to break up Tyson and Noah still. Meanwhile Diane had taken the knife out and stabbed me once again. I fell to the floor and she decided to kick and punch me wherever she could. My body felt like it was on fire and I couldn't move a muscle.
I cry out in pain making Tyson look over at me just as Noah had raised a fist to punch him. I watched in horror as Noah's fist hit Tyson in the eye and the impact making Tyson fall onto the floor not before hitting his head on my dresser.
The room became silent as they all watched blood flow from Tyson's head. Rowan started cursing at Noah, pushing him, slapping his head making him stare at his brother in shock.
"What the hell did you do? You idiot!"
"It was an accident!"
Peeking at a phone on the ground, I reach my hands out towards it. Slyly grabbing it, I type in the number I had memorized since it was given to me. When I hear Rebecca answer I hurriedly plead for her to help but before I can say too much I hear Diane yell.
"You did this!"
Diane kicks the phone out my hand then raises the knife up and swiftly brings it down to my neck. Closing my eyes I wait for my end but it doesn't come as Rowan bends down beside her and holds her wrist.
"No! Are you insane?! We will go to jail for life if you kill her. We need to get to the car and make it look like they had an altercation."
The three proceeded to put the knife in Tyson's hand then step over his still body, before hurrying to their cars. Shortly after I laid there feeling like I was slowly dying, I heard Tyson groan.
He moves his hand to his head and grips the back of his bloody scalp while making incoherent pained murmurs.
"Ah!"
My eyes flutter closed then open back up to see Jamie and Rebecca above me crying.
"You're going to be okay honey. I promise."
"Yes 911... the man is here... yes he has the weapon in his hand, but it seems like he's knocked his head on the dresser... he can move his arms but he hasn't gotten up yet..."
"No..." I whimpered as Jamie kicked the knife out of Tyson's hand.
Rebecca held my cheek, "Help is on the way. Don't worry. He's going to be locked away for a long time."
"Not... him..." I shake my head slowly feeling myself lose consciousness.
"What honey?"
"Family... not ty..."
That was the last thing I remembered. I woke up in a hospital bed, I'm in a gown with stitches on my two knife wounds.
Not only that, but I woke up with news I never thought I would hear.
"Hey you okay?"
Snapping out of my head, I see Beau standing at the front door holding my bag up to me.
"Thanks. Yeah I'm okay."
Beau stands watching me with worried eyes. It was clear that he wanted to continue to question me and make sure that I was absolutely okay. Last time I told him I was okay I had a panic attack in the shower and hit my head. Beau felt guilty because he had left to go hang out with his friends; having no idea that I had been knocked out in the bathroom.
I know both him and Rebecca are concerned but I also wish that things were different. I don't want them in constant fear and worry over me. I don't want them hoping that I don't hurt myself... or someone else.
Taking Beau's hand, I give him a reassuring squeeze with a small smile, "Seriously. I'm okay. I promise."
"Alright..." Beau nods while pulling me into a hug, "This is gonna be good for you G. I just know it."
I smile to myself as he kisses my forehead. The boy was a sweetheart. He had such a big heart.
After we unpack and take a walk around the quiet unpopulated town, we all get ready for dinner. I wear a nice yellow sundress with white converse.
KNOCK KNOCK.
"Come in."
I open my door revealing Rebecca, who was wearing a black blouse and blue jeans with black wedges. She smiles crossing her arms over her chest.
"Well don't you look like a million bucks."
I laugh, "Thanks. You look pretty hot yourself. You know for being almost 40."
Rebecca scoffs and picks up a pair of socks from my open drawer then throws them at me. I duck and giggle.
"I'll have you know I'm only 35 years old."
"You're basically a grandma."
Rebecca glares playfully, "Try my life again, Georgia."
Finally, after waiting for Beau to beautify himself we make our way out the door and walk over to the next door neighbors house. I stand behind Rebecca holding an apple pie in one hand, digging my nails into my palm with the other in nervousness. Beau grabs my hand and pries it open before holding it and smiling at me.
"It'll be fine."
I nod and let out a breath. Rebecca rings the door bell. We hear a few steps on the other side of the door, then the door swings open swiftly.
"Rebecca!"
"Charlie!"
...
"So you must be Georgia! I've heard so much about you."
I smile politely and shake Charlie's hand. He had dark brown almost black hair and was rocking a full mustache.
"Yes sir. I've heard a lot about you too."
Charlie was Rebecca's older brother. Charlie Swan. Chief of Police in Forks, Washington. Total sweetheart but very clear with boundaries and rules. Rebecca told Beau and I do many stories of when they were younger and jokesters. Always getting into trouble and getting on their parents nerves.
The stories made me miss my mom and dad. But I was glad to be with Beau and Rebecca now. They were my new family and I was so blessed and grateful to having people who actually loved me and care about me after being abused for two years.
After being adopted by Rebecca, I moved in with her and Beau and lived with them for a year then we moved to Forks after I got expelled. Like I said, the abuse had taken a toll on me, a very violent and negative one.
"So how are you feeling about being a junior this year?"
"I'm so ready. Super stoked. Can't wait to meet new friends."
Charlie smiles and looks over at Beau, "What about you nephew?"
"I'm just there for the cute chicks."
Charlie chuckles and holds up a fist. Beau fist bumps him making Rebecca groan and roll her eyes.
"Cavemen. Absolute cavemen. Come on let's go eat."
During dinner, Charlie had told me all about his daughter Bella and how excited he was for her to be in town. She was moving down to live with Charlie and he couldn't be happier. I loved seeing the joy it brought him. His smile was so full and bright. He seemed like an amazing, loving dad. He reminded her of her dad.
A tear slides down my cheek making me quickly wipe it away, but not before Charlie sees it and frowns.
"You okay Georgia?"
"Yes I'm fine. I just was thinking about something."
"Anything worth sharing? Some people say I'm a good listener."
I smile as Charlie grins, "You just... kind of remind me of my dad. That's all."
A light green and light blue hue shadows around Charlie's body as his eyes tear up. I know that Rebecca had told him about my past. Also with him being a police I'm sure he found out about it, seeing that Rowan Sawyer was a mayor who went to jail for life.
"That's very touching Georgia. I'm so glad. I hope you know anything you need just come ask me. I'm always here for you. You're family now."
I nod and smile then look down at my plate.
Rebecca makes a sound as if she almost forgot something as she holds up her fork in the air.
"How long is Bella staying, Charlie?"
"Not sure yet but I assume until she graduates."
"Perfect you guys can all be study buddies." Rebecca smiles at Beau and I who look at one another laughing.
"Speaking of, Bella will be here next week. I think you three should maybe go school shopping or something. That way Georgia and her can get to know each other. Not only that but Beau and Bella have only seen each other once and that was back when they were what? Five, Becks?"
Rebecca nods, "Yeah that was a long time ago."
I clear my throat discreetly making Rebecca glances over at me. Giving her a look, her eyes widen before she nods and looks back at Charlie.
"Shoot I forgot. Georgia is going back to San Francisco. She is visiting Jamie for a few days. Then she'll be back to start school after next week."
"Aw well she can just meet Bella then."
I grin actually looking forward to the next couple of weeks, "Definitely. I'm super excited."
...
"Ugh I'm so not excited."
Jamie slaps my arm making me frown, "Um ouch."
She rolls her eyes and laughs, "Oh stop being so dramatic. Look you're the one who wanted to come back this weekend."
"Yeah but I didn't know they were having a party."
"Well it her birthday."
I sigh and rub my temple, "Yes I'm aware. It... I-It's just going to be awkward."
"No it won't."
I look over her deadpanned.
She sighs, "Okay maybe a little bit. Just in the beginning. But it'll be fine. Hey... you like Emilia and Tom. What gives?"
"I just don't feel like answering the same questions over and over again everytime they have new friends over... ugh let's get this over with please."
We both walk up the driveway and to the large house then ring the doorbell. A gorgeous brunette with shoulder length hair, pearly white teeth, and bluish green eyes opens the door with a high pitched squeal.
"Ah! Georgie you're here!"
"Hi Emmy."
Emilia pulls me into a tight hug before hugging Jamie.
"Keegan has been asking about you ever since you told her you were coming last night. She's going to be so excited to see you."
I smile and follow Emilia in. She grips my hand and pulls me through her beautifully decorated house. She guides me outside the backyard where a ton of her friends are standing, mingling with one another.
"Mommy!"
A small body flings onto my legs making me smile widely. I look down at wild brown hair and run my fingers through the untamable curls. Kneeling down, I pull the hazel eyed girl into a hug.
"Hi baby. I missed you."
"Missed you more mommy."
Keegan pulls herself into my arms and wraps her small legs around my body as I stand up holding her tight.
"You made it!"
Looking up I see a brown haired brown eyed handsome guy walking over. He hugs me and Jamie before kissing Emilia.
"Of course Tom! I wouldn't miss Keegan's birthday for the world."
"She's been so excited. Talked about you all night. She fell asleep talking about how you two went and got ice cream together last time you were here."
I rub Keegan's back as she plays with my hair.
"Like I said I wouldn't miss it for the world."
"Well now that you're here. Let's cut the cake!" Emilia runs over to a table on the other side of the backyard pulling a giggling Jamie with her.
Emilia, Jamie, and Rebecca had all been best friends since high school. And they all still acted like they were in high school. Honestly I loved it.
Tom chuckles, "That never gets old."
"Nope."
...
After the party and tons of awkward, confused questions from guests the party finally ends. I help Emilia wash dishes as Keegan and Jamie play frisbee with Tom in the backyard.
"So how'd tonight go hun?"
I sigh, "Better than last time."
"Good."
Last time I was here, it was for Emilia's birthday, which was only three weeks ago. But one of Emilia's coworkers had asked me why I had a child so young. Then continued to rant about me being irresponsible asking why give my child away if I was still going to be completely in their life, bearing the title of mom even though Emilia was 100 times more of a mother than me. Needless to say Emilia had knocked some since into her and I really mean knocked. Like Tom had to grab Emilia after the first swing before a huge cat fight happened.
"Thanks for having my back. Sorry again about your coworker."
"Don't apologize for her. She was a bitch."
I chuckle, "Emilia!"
"What? She was absolutely horrid. I always hated her anyways. I was waiting to deck her in her big nose. No one talks about my family."
I tear up, " Thanks Emmy."
Emilia smiles and pulls me into a hug, "Of course Georgie. I never want you to feel like you are inferior as a mother to Keegan. You are doing amazing. You're doing what you can. You're only 17 years old, no one is blaming you for giving her to an adoptive family. Luckily Jamie and Rebecca had me as friend. And as much as I love Keegan like she's my own blood... I know boundaries. I will never ever take your place as her birth mother. Promise. Plus you're here literally all of the time. We have pictures of you hanging up on our wall. There's no way she could ever forget who you are and how much you try to do for her. I'm proud of you Georgie."
"I love you Emmy."
"I love her too."
I laugh as Tom stands at the now open back door with Jamie by his side and Keegan on his hip.
"Group hug!"
...
"Mommy... read me bed story please. Mama Emmy did too."
I giggle as Keegan pulls herself into my lap. I look over at Tom who smiles at Keegan in her my little pony pajamas.
"What did you say baby?"
"I read to her yesterday. Mommy is here now so it's time for a different story time." Emilia smiles as she comes down the stairs in her own pair of pajamas.
"Oh okay."
"We've already got your bed made and your luggage in your room, G."
"Thanks Tom! Do you guys need anything else? Help cleaning up anything?"
Emilia waves her hand as she sits beside Tom on the couch, "No you go! You've done enough to help me. Thank you so much. Enjoy your time here. We'll just be down here watching a movie then head up to bed in a few."
"Okay. Sounds good. Oh also Jamie said she'll be back in the morning. She wants to take us shopping."
"Oh I love shopping sprees!"
"Don't I know it... and my credit card." Tom chuckles.
Emilia swats his chest before kissing his cheek. Keegan makes a face as she pretends to throw up.
"Gross mommy Emmy... you kiss Daddy Tommy."
"I love him. Just like I love you keeg!"
Emilia attacks her with kisses. Keegan laughs and wraps herself into my lap.
"Goodnight."
"Night you two!" Emilia and Tom reply as I walk up the stairs with Keegan.
Walking to Keegan's room I can't help but smile when I see all the framed pictures in the hallway. Emilia, Tom, Keegan and I at the zoo, at the beach, the fair, everywhere. I was glad to be able to find a family that let me be involved in Keegan's life even though they adopted her. I don't think a closed adoption would've been good for me.
As I lay beside Keegan running my fingers through her hair, I can't help but notice how much she looks like me.
Thank goodness.
When I found out that I was pregnant, I was so scared. And felt so hopeless. I remember the doctor telling me I was pregnant after a rape kit was done. It felt like the world had crashed down on me. I was devastated at first. Because it felt like the Sawyers won. I felt defeated. I felt like I was being punished for existing. To be abused and now to be pregnant by the very person who ruined my life... I researched a lot of pregnancies and trauma and the next step.
I know a lot of the time when women become pregnant by their abuser, they don't feel comfortable keeping the baby. But after thinking about it, to me that was the one thing that brought me joy in my hard times. I was sad that I had to even give her up for adoption, but I had no job and was still in school. Am still in school. I'm only a junior in high school. I don't think it would be fair to not give my child the best if available.
Thinking back to the Sawyers, when I found out that they were caught down the street a few blocks away and taken into custody... the world seemed a little bit better. Tyson sadly died due to brain inflammation, but the Sawyers definitely got their karma.
Garrett had gone on stand in court and told stories about his abusive family. This is why he always tried to stay away and only saw the family on a few occasions. He never even wanted to see them at all but Rowan had threatened to hurt his family. Garrett's wife was pregnant and he did the only thing he could to keep her safe... stay quiet.
So with my testimony, Garrett's testimony, Tyson's death with evidence of Diane's and Noah's fingerprints on the knife, along with Rebecca's witness testimony of seeing bruises... the Sawyers were sentenced to life in prison.
That chilling day in court, when Noah locked eyes with me, I tried not to flinch or show fear. Noah was a monster. He felt absolutely nothing. He just smirked as he was being handcuffed to be escorted away forever.
I felt the courage to say, "You may have abused me, hurt me, and broke me. But you have given me something so beautiful. It brings me so much joy to tell that I'm pregnant, but you're never going to know your child. You're going to rot in prison without even knowing what he or she look like... I hope it was worth it."
That wiped the smirk off his face instantly. He kept repeating in question, "You're pregnant?", hoping I would answer back but I never did. I turned my back to him and walked right out that court. All my fears were lifted that day. And when Keegan was born it felt like the world was finally on my side.
"Goodnight mommy. I love you a million."
"Night baby. I love you a trillion gazillion."
Keegan giggles as she closes her eyes, "Silly mama."
I kiss Keegan's forehead and slowly start to drift away.
...
"How was Keegan?"
"She's doing good. Her party was spectacular as always. Emilia always does such a great job with decorating. Em said Keegan missed me a ton. Apparently last time I left she cried for an hour. I gotta remember to talk to her tonight before I go to bed."
"Yes you do. Did she have a good birthday though?"
"I'd like to think so. Ate tons of cake. Got a million gifts..."
Rebecca frowns as she glances up from the pan of eggs she was frying.
"No one said anything rude did they?"
I shake my head, "No. The newer people asked questions, but no one said anything like that witch last time."
"Good. I wish I was there when Emmy knocked her out."
I laugh, "Yeah it was pretty awesome."
"Hey G!"
"In the kitchen."
Beau comes running into the kitchen with a wide smile.
"Bella's outside."
