Chapter 20: A "Holiday"
As soon as James walked into the Great Hall That morning he had the urge to puke. Everywhere he looked, he could see couples practically sitting on each other's laps with extra smitten looks on their faces.
Every since he heard about Valentine's Day he called it a fake holiday. Why did people need an excuse to show their love for someone else? And often they only did so because they had an ulterior motive.
Lily had already used the augamenti charm on Marly and Sirius. Her stomach could not take their PDA at breakfast, especially on a Monday morning.
Not one doubt in her mind it was a hoax holiday. There was no real reason to celebrate it and she could profess her love for anyone she wanted anytime she wanted.
When they saw each other's equally disgusted looks, they chuckled a little. What were the chances that they both hated this holiday?
"You hate this holiday too?" Lily nodded and bit into her jellied toast.
"C'mon lets go skive off our classes!" That was not an expected response. When James held his hand to her she raised her eyebrows. Skive off classes? "Lily-flower! What classes do you have today?"
"Astronomy and Double Herbology."
"Right, two classes your brilliant at. Let's have a day off!"
"James. We literally just had two days of no classes."
"Pleeeaase!" He pleaded, she rolled her eyes and took another bite of her food.
"Fine, but-" Before she could say or do anything else, he slung her over his shoulder and ran out of the Great Hall. "James Potter!" Lily screeched.
"Yes, malady?"
"Why am I still slung over your shoulder?"
"What a good question. That way, I can reduce the amount of chance you can back out of your decision."
"Why do I not like where this is going?"
...
Lily and James were laying on the ground in his dormitory with papers strewn everywhere on the floor. They would constantly crack jokes and send the other into hysterical laughter. Lily found herself enjoying the time she was spending with him and at one point she realized that she was glad she skived off her classes.
"James! How are we even supposed to get into their common room without them seeing us? It's impossible without a disillusionment charm! I don't fancy having to do that bit of difficult magic on my day off." He wriggled his eyebrows then stood up and walked across the room to his nightstand.
"'Tis possible for us!" Lily raised her eyebrows even though he wasn't facing her and turned back to their prank plans.
So far, they planned to break into the Slytherin common room and charm it to flash red and gold. Lily thought they were just planning to plan and the idea of actually executing the prank seemed ridiculously impossible. She should not have been surprised James not only wanted to follow through with all their plans, but could actually do so without getting caught.
"My dad passed this down to me in first-year." He held up the invisibility cloak proudly with a grin on his face.
"Oh man, we're actually going to go through with this prank, aren't we?"
...
Minerva McGonagall didn't have to teach many classes that Monday, which is why Dumbledore decided to call her up to his office.
She was one of the most active members of the Order, Albus wanted her to take this next mission. It also involved one of her favorite students, so he was sure she would be extra motivated to succeed.
"You called me here, Albus?" She took a seat in the leather chair he conjured and looked at him with concern. There wasn't much that needed to be said between them alone, but whenever they did talk to each other in a private setting, it was about one topic, the war.
"I did, Minerva. There are official Order matters I need you to take care of." She took this in while he continued on. "It involves the sixth-year student, Lily Evans."
...
Two sixth-year Gryffindor students, one the very same they happened to be talking about in the head master's office, were traipsing about the corridors.
Lily was having a job trying not to laugh because James kept stepping on the backs of people's shoes, making them whirl around ready to hex what appeared to be the air.
James led the way underneath the cloak silently gagging at all the PDA that was being shown. He smiled down at Lily as she was doing the same thing.
"Do you remember that one poem you wrote for me?" He laughed before realizing he was invisible and then he clamped his hand over his mouth.
"Which one?"
"Roses are red,
So is your hair,
If I kiss you, will you feed me to a bear?" Lily laughed and James grimaced.
"It was an honest question. Sometimes I thought you would."
...
Sirius was whining. He was also being incredibly annoying. This caused everyone around him to be on edge.
"How come Evans gets to skive off, but I can't?"
"She hasn't been Evans all year, just because you're annoyed that you can't be with James and she does, doesn't give you a reason to call her, Evans. Besides you skived off your last class yesterday. As your girlfriend I have to at least make you come to some classes." Marlene had had it with her boyfriend, who had been moping the entire day.
"She's stealing my partner in crime."
"Oh, stop it Padfoot. James isn't replacing you. We all know you're married." Sirius playfully slapped Remus's arm and scowled.
...
"James? How did you know the password?"
"You forget that Moony is a prefect and he actually would tell me the password because he doesn't have your morals." She scoffed and continued to charm things red and gold.
"I'm sorry I actually use my prefect responsibilities for good, responsible things."
"May I remind you, Moony is not here pranking with me, but you are?" Before she could answer the portrait hole opened. James grabbed her around the waist and pulled them swiftly beneath the cloak. It was like he practiced it.
Snape and Mulciber walked in, the latter slightly wincing. James had backed up into a wall directly left of the portrait hole so they could slip out.
"Stop wincing. You'll give it away, and why is our common room red and gold?" Snape was sporting his signature sneer.
"Well I'm sorry, didn't you wince when you first got the dark mark burned into your arm!" Lily's hair slipped slightly from beneath the cloak because of the shock from that statement. James saw it coming and he pulled them from the Slytherin common room.
Unfortunately, they stumbled and fell on top of their head of house. McGonagall, who happened to be returning from her meeting with Dumbledore.
"Potter. Miss Evans! What were you doing in the Slytherin common room?" However disgruntled the professor was after speaking to their headmaster, she was feeling rather strict with punishment. "Doesn't matter and frankly I don't want to know. With that said, you two will meet me for your detention at 7 p.m. Good day to you!" She walked swiftly away leaving Lily and James gaping behind her.
James put his arm around her and squeezed her shoulder, she had shown barely any emotion ever since she had found out about Snape receiving the dark mark. She smiled softly before her lips returned to a straight line, they continued to walk down the corridor.
"We need to tell Minnie what we heard." She exhaled a deep breath.
"Sooner rather than later."
...
Lily was waiting outside the Transfiguration room tapping her foot lightly on the stone floor. Remus had told her they had official Marauder business and Sirius had practically shoved her down the stairs. Apparently James was going to meet up with her, but there was about thirty seconds until their detention started.
Then, there was a crash, boom, and bang. Several things were knocked over, including Lily herself. A few portraits were shouting, knights had armour spread across the floor, and to top it off there was a barking laugh. Meanwhile, Lily felt like she was being suffocated.
"Get whatever is on me off of me right now or so help me Merlin!" She screeched, Lily knew who was behind this, the barking laugh confirmed it for her.
"Sorry Red! You really weren't a target this time!" Sirius helped her up and brushed some dust off her shoulder, like it would actually help the situation.
"Black! You can clean this mess up while Potter and Miss Evans are in detention! Speaking of which, where is he?" McGonagall's voice unmistakably appeared out of nowhere.
"I am right here Minnie," James startled both Lily and McGonagall by jumping down from behind a tapestry. "And I am ready for my detention!"
James Potter had his fair share of detentions, 56, including the one he was about to serve. The professor that has gifted him with the most is Flitwick, with Slughorn coming close behind him. McGonagall tried to avoid it if she could, but several detentions were served overwatched by the professor.
"You should at least seem less happy about it," she wore a disapproving look as Lily and James entered her class room. "I want you two to scrub every inch of every table in here."
...
Lily was scrubbing the Marauders' table in the back of the classroom when something caught her eye. It made her blush a crazy amount and she was still thinking about it that night when she went to bed.

...
Although the rest of the sixth-year Gryffindors did not figure out how the Slytherins ever got into their dormitory, the answer was sleeping right next to them. Peter Pettigrew slept soundly and ate well knowing how much he really was betraying his friends.
...
Author's Note:
I feel like that shouldn't have taken the amount of time it did to write that, but here it is anyways. There was a bunch of things distracting me.
Who else doesn't like Valentine's Day? Originally, I didn't have this chapter planned and when I remembered this holiday was a thing my brain went oh shit.
Lmao anyways thanks for reading
