Thank you and Enjoy.
Uh, you be like bubble tea
You′re like a summer breeze, under trees
When I'm around you, uh
All of my troubles leave, I′m at ease.
As you grew up, you realize the insane sense of hypocrisy in your culture. No matter how many endless centuries of development your culture went through, ignorance in portraying your people always prevails. Especially, with celebrities. Truly, it pisses you off. Regardless, you were enjoying yourself on this night.
Another late night at the Freemans' residence, is always something you look forward to. Considering, that you were spending more time with your closest friends, in an environment, you were comfortable with. You, Riley, and Huey sat on the couch, watching the moving pictures on the living room TV.
Riley, on your left, laying on his back, with his head resting on your thigh. Once again in the middle, you huddled your legs on the couch and leaned against Huey. Huey sat on your right, leaning back on the couch with his arm prompted on the armrest, and his chin resting in the palm of his hand. Robert kept the remote on his armchair, as he sat in his well-reserved chair in the house.
A plate with a large slice of leftover birthday cake was in your hands. Who's birthday was it? It was Riley's. As much as he raved about having a large party with unattainable things that Robert said no to, Thugnificent however managed to throw him a party, which is more than Riley could ask for.
Riley attempted to seem nonchalant about his gifts, despite getting what he could ask for from everyone. He even swore to never take off your gift, which was a pure gold necklace with a gold and natural diamond crested pendant that was in the shape of the letter R. On the back of it, it said "Riley Escobar".
You tease him about how he hugged you when he got it, but never wants to admit it. Despite knowing damn well he did.
Sitting between the two brothers, you all would eat a piece of cake from the plate while mindlessly watching whatever played on the TV. On the TV, a news anchor explained that former singer, Whitney Houston appeared in court, along with her husband Bobby Brown.
Bobby was facing battery charges for beating his wife, Whitney. The camera then transferred inside the court, showing the dysfunctional couple.
Whitney tended to uncomfortably shift side to side, whilst her broken arm stayed in the protective sling over her shoulder. Bobby just kept his head down with a scowl. "H-Hell no, Bobby don't hit me!" She exclaimed, immediately moving away from Bobby once their eyes met.
Her movements were familiar to you.
"See, we have this TV show, and it's our TV show, and I was trying to get a little more time on it-" Her words ended once Bobby swung his backhand at her face, shouting; "It's my show bitch!" Out of reflex, you covered your eyes as Riley cackled beside you. Huey noticed the slight shake you gave, as you shield yourself from what was shown.
"You know, I think they're on drugs." Robert declared. "Let's see what's on BET." He says, immediately changing the channel, to Huey's silent wish, along with yours. Once it was changed to BET, you heard one of Thug's songs play, it oddly comforted you. As you slowly moved your hands, you saw that the TV displayed various women, dressed in brightly tight thongs, and showing off whatever they had to the camera. "Oh, Lordy, lord." Robert gasped.
That took you all by shock. "Close y'all eyes," Robert demanded, as the three of you deliberately continued to watch. With a slight grin on his face, Huey placed his hands over your eyes, surprising you. "Ah! Hueyy! I was literally on the set of the recording!" You whined, prying at his hands.
"That's just as bad," Huey said, pulling his hands away to rest upon your own. "Whatchu mean? That's lucky." Riley grinned. Huey would roll his eyes with a scoff as you gently swatted Riley's head, he only laughed along with you. Once your laughing died, everyone's attention turned to the TV once the news anchor said a rather interesting line.
"On our topic point this evening, it seems like hip-hop rappers are trading their gold chains for gold showers." All three of you would gently lean forward, inattentively listening. "Hip hop singer R. Kelly is on trial once again this week, for sharing some of his "liquid bling" with yet another underage girl. Some advice for Mr. Kelly would be to use a golden shower curtain and keep your golden showers, to yourself. Back to you Tim." The man said as the conversation was swiftly shifted to another anchor.
It didn't take long for you to understand what a "golden shower" really was. Your mother, from what you can remember was an R. Kelly fan. Your brother despised R. Kelly. Now that you think about it, he didn't like anything your parents liked. "What's wrong with a man giving away a golden shower? Sounds like a good gift to me." Robert spoke. Riley would snicker, you doing the same. "What? Shoot. I wish someone would give me a golden shower." Robert told. "Ewwww." You giggled as Riley cackled.
"One: I like gold. Two: I like showers. Put them together that sounds like the life." Robert stated, sighing dreamily as he rested in his chair. "Well, maybe if you're good this year, Santa will give you one for Christmas Mr. Freeman!" You giggled, hearing Riley howl a laugh as he twisted and turned, holding his sides desperately for relief. Huey stifled a chuckle and rolled his eyes, his gaze shifting from the TV to you. "Oh really? My man, Santa." Robert dragged with a grin.
"Tomorrow at two-thirty in the afternoon, we'll witness Robert Kelly's trial live. Even the open public is allowed to attend. Don't miss it." With those last words for the reporter, you all turned your heads to Robert. "Grandad, can you drive us to the R. Kelly trial?" Riley asked as he jabbed his fork into the cake, taking another piece. "Hell no, ya'll can walk." Robert quickly answered. "Aw, man." You silently whined, eating your next piece of cake with a frown. "The courthouse is forty miles," Huey spoke. "And? Take the bus. Shoot, ya'll took the bus everywhere in Chicago." Robert told.
That struck a memory. You and your older brother took the bus everywhere. Every time you both were on a crowded bus, he kept you in his lap, with his pocket knife hidden underneath his sleeve. On the subways, he'd have you both sit the far back to goof around and cause a ruckus. He explained how he hated being around others, especially when he was deliberately vandalizing the property.
The boys groaning at their grandfather's rebuttal brought you back to the reality of your blurred mind. Looking at the clock on the wall, squinting, you saw the time. "It's eight thirty, I gotta go." You say, placing the plate in Huey's lap and gently nudging Riley's head from your lap to move. "All right, little baby, boys, walk with her," Robert ordered, the boys not bothering to argue.
"It's okay Mr. Freeman, the guards are outside by the door waiting for me. They don't have to come with me today." You say. Huey's frown dipped lower in disappointment, while Riley's blank stare seem to dip. You didn't notice. "All right, stay safe now." Robert wished you. "I will, goodnight everyone, I'll see you boys tomorrow, bye!" With those final words, you walked to the front door. You heard two goodbyes further behind, yet one was closer. Before opening the door, you turned around to see Huey.
"I have to lock the door after you leave." He said. Opening the door, you see the two guards standing at the steps. "I know, night Huey." Were your last words to him before joining the guards.

Change of Perspective.
Riley's Pov.
~~~~
Damn. Would've been cool if she stayed the night. But Thug and Luna got her on a strict schedule. Even has guards watching her for everything. He's just that gangster. Then Huey's gay ass just had to go and be the last one to say bye to her. That nigga is weird about her. "The leaked footage of R. Kelly releasing himself onto the minor in question has been posted to restricted websites." Oh? Say less. "Aye uh...I'm gonna check my emails...yeah, my emails." I said as I got up from the couch and made my way to the stairs. "Get your short ass back here, boy." Damn.
Change of Perspective
Second Person Point of View.
~~~~
Running down the mansion stairs in your pajamas, you yelled; "LUUUUNAAAAA, THUUUUG!" Jumping down to the bottom of the stairs, you ran to their office, pounding on their door. "I need permission from one of you for something!" You shouted. The doors would open by one of the butlers, who greeted you with a smile. "Right this way." He said, stepping aside for you to enter. "Thank you, Charles." You'd step inside, and found Luna, pacing around the office, with her arms crossed over her chest. Every look she gave was a poisonous glare of hate. She didn't seem happy one bit. Neither did Otis.
Otis sat by his desk with a bottle of whiskey, near a half-empty glass. The stern look of annoyance and anger on his face could kill a man. It most certainly scared you. Yet, they both claim to never be intimidating. "Uhm...Lu? Otis? Are you guys busy?" You spoke with a soft crack in your voice from your low tone. The two would break from their cold demeanors, and look at you neutrally.
"Not really, but what is it darling? Did something happen?" Luna, sitting at the edge of Otis's desk, motioning you forward with one finger. As you approached them, you'd ring the silk fabric of pajamas in your hands. "Well, me and my friends. Huey and Riley wanted to hang out today. I wanted to tell you guys about it last night, but y'all weren't here." You said allowing Luna to take your hand and guiding you into her lap. "Where do ya'll plan on going? You got appointments." Otis said, eyeing the few papers on his desk.
"Appointments?" You asked. "Dammit Otis, we were supposed to let her know gently." Luna scolded. "Are you two hiding something from me?" You asked, reaching for the papers. Thankfully neither of them tried to stop you from taking them. "Green Crossing Private Therapy Sessions?" You read aloud in a questioning tone. "Why do I need therapy? I'm fine." You claimed, not seeing the look of doubt be shared between Otis and Luna.
"Well, Nyx, do you...know why you're living with me and Otis?" Luna asked. "Uhm...not really. Miss Emerald only said that it would be better here than in Chicago." You told, hearing her sigh. "Do you remember what your parents did?" Otis straightforwardly asked. Leaning your head to the side, you looked confused at Otis with a cocked brow. "What do you mean?" You said. "Like, what they did, said, even done. To you, and...AJ. Do know what happened to AJ-"
"Otis, stop it," Luna demanded of her brother. Otis would sigh irritatedly before downing the last ounce of whiskey in his glass, slamming it down onto his desk once he was finished. You cringed as he did.
"Look, Nyx. We only and will forever want what's best for you. And therapy is not a bad thing, it's just talking to someone about things." Luna explained, combing her hand through your hair. "But...B-But can't I just talk to you guys? Why do I need to talk to someone I don't know?" You asked. "You can, but the court said it'd be better that way for you to uh...remember." Otis would get up from his chair and walk to the front of his desk, sitting beside you both.
Remember? Remember what? You already know what you need to know. You remember to do your work, be respectful, always be presentable, and all they would want you to know. What else was there? "You don't gotta think about it now, Nyx. Now, you said you need our permission for something?" Otis said as Luna took the paperwork from you.
"I wanna go to the R. Kelly trial."
~~~~
Thankfully, Otis and Luna agreed to allow you to attend the trial and use public transportation. Though they both gave you the talk to not cause a scene, for the sake of their public image, and yours as well. You explicitly explained that you didn't care enough about R-Kelly and that you were only attending to spend time with your friends. They both gave you more than enough money for a bus trip. Maybe you could buy a snack before the trial? That would be nice.
Sitting in front of your vanity, you heard a ding from your computer. Whom could that be? Setting down your brush on the vanity counter, you went to your computer to look at the message. Oh, it was multiple messages!
——\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/——
Nathan!:
Hey Y/n
Are you free today
I have the manor to myself for the day
——\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/——
Oh, that sounds fun! Nathan thrives whenever he's home alone, he's a different person when he's comfortable. Huey can't seem to stand him, only tolerate him. You, however, manage just fine and bond with him. Sadly, you won't be able to experience that today.
——\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/——
Huey!:
Hi Y/n.
Grandad gave enough for a ride there, but not a ride back, so he'll have to pick us up.
Make sure to eat too, since we can't buy any snacks at the concession stands.
——\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/——
Aw, but, thankfully you have rich cousins! You had more than enough for a ride there, snacks, a ride back, and more snacks!
You clapped your hands in excitement. Back in Chicago, you never knew boba tea existed, let alone what it possibly could be. One day when you were out shopping with Luna and Kira, you caught sight of the adorable tea shop on the corner. Desperately, you wanted to try some, but unfortunately, Luna had mandatory meetings and you had dance lessons, so your wait for the bubble tea began on that day. Thankfully, today would be the day you get to experience it.
——\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/——
Rolling your seat from under your desk, you prance toward your closet with a smile. Luna had already set up an outfit for you in your closet. She claimed that she wanted you to be presentable in front of any flashing paparazzi that recognized you.
Once you were dressed, you adjusted the gold chain of your purse against your shoulder while posing in the mirror. Tracing your red painted nail, along the golden planted letters that spelled the name, Kate Spade. It was a designer red shoulder purse that was in the shape of a heart. When you first saw it, you practically got on all fours, begging Otis to get it for you. Thankfully, it didn't take much for him to get it for you.
Blowing yourself a kiss in the mirror, you left your room. "Oh Y/n, I was just about to get you. Riley and Huey are outside." Kiara said. You looked at her in shock. "You aren't wearing your uniform." You said. She was dressed in bleached blue jeans that hugged her hips and a simple green tank top, that matched with her sneakers. "Oh, yeah. Heading out early, my younger sister is sick, and I gotta take care of her." Kiara would take the black rubber tie from her ponytail, letting her hair fall down her back as the band went to her wrist.
"Aw, I hope she gets better. See you later, bye!" You rushed, racing past her to the stairs. "You to Y/n, stay safe!" You heard Kiara yell after you. Walking to the foyer, you found your two guards standing promptly with Otis in front of them. Otis would look up from his phone, a smile coming to his face. "There she is." His tone was light, near joyful. He opened his arms to you, instantly you ran into them. His arms tucked underneath you, lifting you from the floor.
"You headin' out already?" He asked, stroking back a curl of your hair behind your ear. You'd nod with a smile, your eyes following the bright shine of his pure, gold, silver, and diamond rings. "Pretty rings." You awed, taking his hand into yours, your eyes eyeing the ring that clasped against the knuckle of his ring finger. "You ain't got your own ring set?" He asked. You shook your head. "Hm, here. Lemme see your thumb."
Thug would set you down on your feet, then kneel before you. Holding out your thumb on your right hand, Thug slipped his diamond ring along your thumb. It wasn't a perfect fit, as it was big, but it wouldn't slip off anytime soon. This was your first authentic ring. You can still remember the first ring you ever wore.
~~~~~
"Look up at me." His curled index finger pressed under your chin, lifting your head to face him through your blurry mirrors. "The fuck you cryin' for?" He asked, the thumb wiping against the tears, winching under his rough touch. "I don't know.." You sniffed. "Thought so, lemme see your thumb." You'd hand him your right hand, as AJ gently spread out your fingers. Gently, he'd glide a feeling of plastic along your ring finer. Moving your hand, you saw an orange glowing spider ring.
"The fuck...?" You hiccuped. "It's a spider ring dummy. You know, like that nigga Peter Parker or something." He told. With a sudden flinch, your frown quivered into a waving smile as a laugh ruptured from your coarse throat. "He was bitten by the spider! Idiot!" You laughed. The laughter grew as you thought more of your brother's mistake. AJ would manage a grin and a chuckle, no matter the bit of embarrassment. "Ight, so the nigga got bit. But you got something cooler. A ring. Do you like it?" He asked.
Sniffing past a tear, you traced the spider with your finger. "Mhm. I love it. Thank you, AJ." You smiled. "Nah, thank me when we have so much money, I can give you hundreds of real Diamond rings. Real ones. Not that phony shit ma' has." "Oh! Let's get matching ones too!"
~~~~~
"Thank you! I won't lose it, I promise!" You beamed. Otis would give you a smile as he brought your hand to his lips. Gently, he pecked the ring. You looked at him with a scrunched face in confusion. "With rings like this, you gotta do that. Unless you wanna die. It's about respect, got it?" He told. Nodding to his teaching, you were placed down onto your feet.
"Ight, be safe when you're out. And, don't bring attention to yourself, don't-" "Yeah, yeah, I know already. Love you, bye!" You cheered, running out the front doors, and rushing down the steps to the courtyard. Your pace slowed, taking in the scenery before the mansion. Approaching the gold gate, you spotted Huey and Riley standing beside one another on the sidewalk. Huey was on his phone, with a draining look of fading patience, as Riley stood beside him, wielding a picket sign, raving about something.
A smile faintly phased across your lips as you pushed your thumb against the keypad identifier, hearing the gate open with a metal click. Stepping out, the gas closed behind you with a loud bang that brought the attention of the brothers from across the street. Huey tucked his phone away in his pocket, as he began to cross over the street with Riley, you chose to meet them halfway. "Hey, boys," Quickly eyeing them up and down, a fluttering likeness occurred.
Huey was dressed in black cargo pants, a fitted black long-sleeve shirt that was tucked, and covered with a green denim jacket with a red patched star on the very front, around his neck was a bland silver necklace.
Riley on the other hand was dressed in a simple red hoodie, with dark blue pants, and bright brown Timberland boots, around his neck was the gold chain you gifted him. Added to this outfit was the picket sign, which had FREE R. KELLY painted in dark red on the white sign. Despite cringing at the sights of that, you still smiled at them.
"Y'all look cute." You told, seeing the surprise on their faces from your compliment. "'preciate it. Say, where yo pants at?" Riley asked. Perking a brow, your hand pulled the bottom hem of your cardigan slightly, showing the end of black frills to your skirt. "The cardigan I'm wearing is big, and covers my skirt." You said, letting the hem fall over your skirt.
The two would nod, just as Riley drew a grin and clasped his hands together. "Ight, we got enough money for our ride and some wings." He said, clearly excited. "What about the boba tea shop?" You asked with a frown. "I ain't tryin' to drink balls, you and Huey can do that," Riley said. Huey pinched the bridge of his nose with a glare toward Riley.
"We don't have enough money, for any of that," Huey told, rolling his eyes. "Grandad only gave us enough money for the bus and back. Besides, he said we can't go out to other places." Huey said, as a personal reminder to Riley. Gritting his teeth, Riley matched Huey's glare, "Tch, yo gay ass always tryna' to snitch and shit. You'd prolly snitch on the slaves running away." He said. "Oh, so now you know about slavery." Huey spat.
A huff of frustration came from your nostrils as you pushed yourself between the two. "Shut up, I have enough money for everything. For the bus here and back, and food. Plus, Grandad won't make a big deal about it, just as long as we make it home safe. And no one causes a scene-" You looked to Riley, him avoiding your gaze. "And no one tells." You then looked to Huey who did the same.
"Deal?"
"Deal."
Once it was all settled, the three of you began to make your way down the sidewalk, stopping when a familiar voice called out to you three. "Hey, kids!" Said the familiar voice said from across the street. The three of you turned to spot Mr. Dubois, also known as Tom, and Jasmine's father. He makes a living off of being a lawyer to the public and has made quite a reputation. As always, he wore his usual dark navy blue suit, and red tie to go with it. In his hand was a brown leather suitcase, most likely with the evidence he needs to prosecute R. Kelly.
He approached you three with a smile. "Hello, Huey, Riley, Y/n. I couldn't help but notice your sign and I hope you three aren't upset about me having to prosecute Mr.Kelly." He said. "It's okay Mr. Dubois, with your position in law, it's reasonable. I don't care about the guy anyways." You said with a nonchalant shrug, Huey also nodded. "Ay man, you gotta do whatcha gotta do," Huey said to him with a shrug. "Well, that's a relief." Tom chuckled. However, Riley didn't have the same attitude as you and Huey.
"Why R. Kelly, huh?! What did R. Kelly ever do to you?" Riley asked, obviously outraged by this. "Riley, he's being accused of releasing himself onto an underaged girl on tape, which is against the law," Mr. Dubois told him. "Okay, okay, okay. Let's say this if I pee in the toilet it's okay, but if I pee on a person it's like not okay?" Riley asked. "Who likes getting peed on Riley?" You questioned him. "Clearly that girl 'cause her dumbass didn't move! So why should R. Kelly go to jail?" Riley asked Mr. Dubois again as Huey sighed, shaking his head.
"Riley, it's wrong in general to pee on anyone, especially if a grown adult releases themselves on a minor," Mr. Dubois told him. "What if I'm peeing in the bathroom and Huey's in the bathroom and I accidentally pee on Huey? Should I go to jail?" Riley asked, causing you to giggle and Huey to look at him as if he was kicked in the skull. "What the hell would I be doing in the bathroom while you're in the bathroom?" Huey asked, disgusted.
"Hold up, hold up, remember when we were littler and we would share the same bed? From time to time I would have a little accident," Riley said to him. "You still do-" Huey was cut off by Riley. "Shut up! So Mr.Dubois, Mr. "I wanna lock niggas up for peeing." What's the status on bedwetting? Why not prosecute me and R. Kelly at the same time?" He said. "So stupid.." Huey muttered in an annoyed tone, looking down as he shook his head. You nudged the older boy with a smile. "Come on, he's onto something." You giggled, not knowing Riley heard the two of you.
Tom looked at Riley with a smile and furrowed brows. "Riley, no one is going to prosecute you for bedwetting," Mr. Dubois told him as he adjusted his tie. "And you shouldn't, it's natural body function and now every nigga will be scared to be. I may never pee again!" Riley. "Is that possible?" You asked Huey. "A girl died once because she held it in for too long," He told you causally. "Hm. The more you know."
"Riley it was a little girl!" Mr. Dubois said raising his voice. "Oh, I saw that girl. She ain't little. I'm little. Y/n's little and Huey's little." Riley stated. "To the best of my knowledge we all managed to avoid getting peed on," Riley said. You looked Huey up and down. "I wouldn't say little for you, I would say average." Huey snickered at your words, while you looked at him confused. "It's nothing, you wouldn't get it." He said.
"But what about the victim?" Mr. Dubois asked in outrage. "Oh yes, the victim. At what point of this conversation did she come irrelevant?" He asked. "I don't think that-" Mr. Dubois was cut off by Riley.
"If I see piss coming I move." He told as Mr. Dubois nodded. "She saw piss coming she stayed," Riley said. "Yes, she did." He told him. "And why should I miss another R.Kelly album just for that?" Riley asked as he walked off leaving Mr. Dubois shocked. "Damn, you just got beat by a twelve-year-old," Huey said. You stood there in shock as well, you never witnessed many kids talk to adults like that.
"And if R.Kelly goes to jail, I'll piss on your cat!" Riley yelled making a laugh slip out from you. Huey would take your hand and walk off with you to catch up with Riley. "Bye, Mr. Dubois, good luck!" You said to him as you left with Riley and Huey, the three of you making your way to the bus stop.
Approaching Riley, with Huey's hand in yours, you took Riley's hand from his pocket with a smile. "What are you mad about anyways? Not like R.Kelly's cool or anything." You said. "It ain't that, just that niggas always gettin' arrested for nothing." He huffed. Seems like he needed to get that off his chest. "But what R.Kelly did wasn't nothing." You told. "Y/n's right, R.Kelly can't legally piss on a kid because she said so," Huey interjected.
Just before Riley could give his counter-argument, the bus arrived, just in time at that. Getting onto the bus, Huey paid for passes as Riley dragged you to the back of the moderately filled bus. He sat on the side of the open aisle as Huey happily stole the window seat, alas keeping you in the middle once again.
The two would seclude themselves to their phones, as you found entertainment in whatever the world had to offer outside the window. However, Huey blocked some of your view so you leaned over him to see clearer. "You can just-" Huey placed his hands on your hips, guiding you to sit in his lap. Naturally, you followed his lead, however it struck a flaming heat to swarm you. "Sit there." He said, his hands being nothing but a ghostly essence on your hips.
As you were just about to form a sentence to thank him, Riley gently plugged his earbud into your ear, with his phone being the space between you both. "Hm?" You hummed, looking at him. "Check this." Was all he said with a wide grin. You looked to see a video of a black girl, wearing a white polo shirt a pink cardigan, and a blue skirt.
Sitting in a dimly lit room, a nude black man approached her, then proceed to urinate on her. Immediately your face cringed in disgust, damn near ruining your appetite. You turned away, no longer wanting to view it. "Ewwww, Riley change it!" You demanded as he laughed. "Ight, ight." He would simply change it to a song you both were familiar with.
Huey would target his glare towards Riley, who didn't pay him any mind. Once you seem pleased with the music, he looked back down at his phone. Looking out the window you watched a woman take pictures of what you assumed to be her daughter, walking with a puppy. Seeing that made you envious, but want one thing.
Man, you wish you had a dog.
Eventually, the bus would come to a stop at the destination. You sprung out of your seat, skipping with joy as you made it off the bus, with Riley and Huey following. People filled the plaza walking bags of food, clothes, or whatever money could buy them. The aroma of food made the three of your stomachs growl in unison. Seems like you all skipped breakfast. "Let's go find that shop," Huey said. "Bet." You and Riley told in unison, immediately taking off to find the Boba Shop.
In the process, endless vendors with samples took each of your attention. You nearly filled up on samples just alone before finally finding the shop. "So you tell me the balls are pearls?" Riley asked, looking at the mascot sticker of a neon yellow circular creature with limbs, prancing joyfully. The words delicious in bold neon were underneath it. "Pearl tapioca, it's edible and fine Riley," Huey told him. "Yeah, you'll like it! And if you don't want it with that, they won't put it in. Now let's go inside." You said, dragging the boys by the sleeves of their shirts into the shop.
Fascinated and captivated by the inviting atmosphere, you approached the counter with the brothers, all gawking at the menu. Endless flavors of drinks with treats to go were at service. A fairly thin and pale woman with short black hair in a white sweater and yellow sleeves, the same mascot was on the front of her sweater, would smile at three from behind the counter.
"How may I help you three today?" She asked. "We'll have three mediums please, and I'll have...Mango and Pineapple Sunrise with sago and one caramel flan please!" You told. "I'll just have Coconut and Matcha with one small grass jelly," Huey said. "Okay, and what would like young man?" She said looking at Riley.
"I'll have uh...the strawberry peach one with tapioca pearl and.." Riley looked down at the showcase shelf and pointed toward one of the items. "That." He pointed to a thin red box that read Pocky on the box. "Ah, pocky, got it! That will be twenty-five dollars and thirty-four cents." She said, "Do you all take cash?" You asked, opening your purse to retrieve the change. "Why yes, we do ma'am." She giggled, you doing the same.
As you were paying, Huey leaned in and whispered to your ear, "Thank you Y/n, I'll pay you back." Flustered, you stammered a reply while shakily handing the money to the woman. "It's n-no problem, but thanks." You replied, watching him nod before going to the pickup counter. As you took out five dollars to place in the tip jar, Riley's arm snaked along your waist, "Aye Y/n, I'm headin' to the bathroom, make sure Huey doesn't eat my shit. And thanks by the way." You nodded to Riley before he went off to the restroom.
The woman at the counter set the pudding and jelly above the pocky box and the three drinks beside it. "Order's ready, I hope you all enjoy!" You and Huey would thank as you both grabbed what you could hold. You grabbed your own drink, Riley's, and your dessert. Huey took his drink, Riley's pocky box, and his pudding. Taking a sip from your drink, you hummed In delight at the refreshing flavor.
"Is it good?" Huey asked. "Mhm, what about yours? You like it?" You'd drag your sleeve across your chin o wipe away the dripping tea that spilled. "It's good, I was hoping it would be more bitter, but it's not bad." He shrugged. "Yeah, everything here is usually sweet, which is a plus." You beam, taking another sip from your drink practically wanting to sing from its goodness.
It was totally worth the wait! Riley eventually came along from the bathroom. "Here you go, it's really sweet by the way." You said, handing him his drink. "Nearly being thirty dollars and missing wings for this, it better be at least good." He huffed as took a few sips from his drink and took his pocky from Huey just to hand it to you.
Huey would forward a frustrated sigh. "Why buy it if you don't want it? You're just wasting her money." He asked. Oh, he didn't want it? More snacks for you then! "I ain't know anything else in here, and it ain't wastin' since she happy as hell to get it too." Embarrassed at Riley's call out, you swatted the back of his head with your hand, the grin on his face disappearing in an instant. "Shut up Riley."
Now you see why Huey does this so often.
~~~~
As you all walked the rest of the way to the courthouse, you each took in the sights the plaza offered. Popup shops with games to play with enjoyable prizes, tailors with gorgeous pieces of fabric, and even aspiring singers. Though there wasn't enough time to enjoy everything, the brothers swore to come to the plaza after the trial.
Arriving at the courthouse, only chaos and havoc were what the eye could see. Two superheated sides, shouting with hoarse lungs. One side screeched "FREE R. KELLY!!!", punching their fist into the air with their picket signs. On the other side were four well-dressed lawyers saying to prosecute R. Kelly, wielding their briefcases as their weapons. In the middle of the fiasco were news reporter standing in between them all, carrying on with their live report.
Immediately Riley made his way to the crowd without you or Huey paying attention. You and Huey were speaking on the matter, well more of you listening to Huey's rant and banter on the matter. Completely lost in your mind, and Huey's words becoming nothing but unintelligible murmurs, you noticed from the corner of your eye, Riley running to the crowd. He was wielding his picket sign like a Viking with a thirst for bloodshed upon his battle axe.
"That just adds to why they shouldn't-" "Riley is running with the crowd." You interrupted, pointing to the younger brother. Huey snapped out of his lecture, catching sight of his brother mouthing off with a news reporter. "Shit- come on." Taking your hand in his, he marched over to Riley.
"If I started peeing on you right now would you A: smile and ask for more or B: move the hell out of the way? But before you answer that let me ask America. Has pee really hurt anybody? And I wanna give a big shout-out to my homie Devon in Chicago! Wassup!!" Riley said to the camera as he made a familiar gang sign.
"Alright, that's enough Riley!" Huey said, grabbing a hold of him, and pulling him away from the cameraman with you helping. You tried to keep your head down the best that you could from the camera's view. Riley wasn't making that easy. "Get off me, Huey!! Let go Y/n!!" Riley demanded as he tried pulling the other way.
"Free R. Kelly!! Free R. Kelly!!" Riley yelled as he fought against you two, taking the attention of the crowd of people. "Hey, those people who are against R. Kelly are holding that little boy hostage!" A man claimed, causing a fight between the two riots. Squeezing past, the three of you made it beside the courthouse, out of sight of the fight and cameras. Peaking from behind the wall, you gasped in shock.
"Oh my God, did we cause that?" You asked, with a growing feeling of unease. "No, Riley did," Huey huffed. "No, it was yo gay ass fault for grabbing me!" Riley yelled, crossing his arms over his chest. "Because of you, I lost my sign! Spent days on that." Riley complained, leaning his back against the wall with a sour look. "You just heard about the trial last night, and I hope that shit is gettin' stepped on." Huey spat.
Having no comeback, Riley looked to you. "And why did you try to stop me?" He asked you. "Huey said you were causing a scene." You defended. practically throwing Huey under the bus. Riley would roll his eyes, smacking his lips together in annoyance. "I wasn't causin' shit, Huey gay ass started that fight back there. Don't always believe his gay ass ma." Riley said, letting the name Ma slip out.
You remember hearing that nickname back at your old school. The older boys would call the girls they were with Ma and other nicknames. You felt your heart flutter as you pulled at your sleeves in a flustered manner, which Riley saw, making him smirk cheekily. As your hand reached to stroke your hair behind your headband, you noticed your right hand felt lighter.
Looking at your right thumb, you noticed the ring was gone. Oh no. No no no no. "No no no no no no no no no.." You quietly whimpered as began to manically look around you, while simultaneously checking your pockets and purse. Huey approached you, taking hold of your shoulder to stop you from nearly wanting to lift the concrete. "What's wrong Y/n?" "I FUCKING LOST THE RING!" You blurted, taking the two aback with shock.
"What ring?" Huey asked. "You was wearing a ring?" Riley asked, completely unaware. With tears in your eyes and a shaking frame, you nodded. "Yes, it was T-Thugs! It's the one he wears all the time, and he's gonna be so pissed, and probably send me back home and-" Falling into hysterics, tears drenching your face as your shook like a leaf in the wind. A tumbling feeling of unease, fear, shame, and sickness overwhelmed your entire being.
The boys came closer, Huey who was unsure of how to ease the situation, and Riley simply rubbed your back, to which you flinched and stepped away from his touch. Scratching at his head, Huey looked at the crowd and sighed. "Okay, after the fight, we can look on around. Do you know when you were last wearing it?" Huey asked you.
You pulled at your sleeves to wipe at the tears as your sniffled. "Yeah, it was on until we had to Riley from the crowd." Riley instantly felt the burning glare from Huey after you spoke, even the slight feeling of guilt at the sight of you. As much as you wanted to dig a hole in the ground to hide in, the boys dragged you to the front of the courthouse, to sit on the stairs and watch the chaos.
Eating at the gummy bears from your purse with the brothers, you noticed a yellow hummer-like limo. The crowd would come to a halt as the back door to the vehicle opened, revealing the man himself, R. Kelly. Dressed in a standard suit and tie, he had a mask that only covered the upper hall of his face. Walking in between the crowd, a news reporter and camera followed him in quick haste, asking endless questions.
"Mr. Kelly, Mr. Kelly! Do you have any statement about your second trial?" The news reporter asked him. Coming to a pause in his pace, he spoke; "This is a true statement of people sticking together as soldiers fighting in a war and as injustice anywhere isn't justice. Amen." Raising his fist to his chest, he hit it twice before raising it to the sky.
Huey rolled his eyes as Riley copied the gesture, with you putting his arm down the minute he did it. The crowd went wild at his speech you only just yawned. "Let's go inside, it's getting hot." You croaked with a dry throat, making your way inside before the boys could follow.
This wouldn't be your first time in a courthouse. The beige floors were an offset to the all-black carpet flooring. The rising stands for the jury were a dark brown from the woods of the public stands. As the judge's throne was much more polished compared to everything else. In the very corner was a small concession stand, preparing snacks for the audience.
Choosing the very front seats, you looked straight ahead at the wall with a land expression. You didn't bother to say a single word, and the boys took sight of that.

Riley's Pov.

"Look, I saw Mr. Dubois outside, I'm going to talk with him real quick, keep an eye on Y/n while I'm gone. And don't leave this room." Huey said. "Yeah yeah nigga go, I got Y/n." When he walked off, I looked at Y/n at the seats. She looked like one of them dolls, but sad as hell. To my left I heard a ding from a cash register, instantly I know how to cheer her ass up. Walking up to the stands, I looked at the menu to see what they had. No wings here either, but they got popcorn and fries.
"What can I get you?" Asked some dude with big ass pimples on his face. Nigga nearly made me throw up. "Uh yeah, one large fry, one large popcorn, and lemme get two cokes. One cherry one, she like cherry shit."
"Alright, that'll all be just ten dollars." He said. Taking out my wallet, I took out a ten and gave it to him. I don't let all these niggas know I always got money on me. Cause then they'll start depending on me and shit. I ain't grandad, I don't give bitches free meals.
Taking the stuff, I walked back to Y/n, seeing her have her head down. Ain't no way she still crying. Walking through the pews, I sat beside her and didn't hear her sniffling or anything. So I guess she ain't crying. Putting the fries and coke in her lap, she perked. "You got me food?"
"Don't start sayin' I never do shit for you after this, and you looked sad..." She only looked at me, with a smile growing on her face. She took her fries in her hands and placed her drink ahead of her, then laid her legs on the pews before leaning against me. "Thank you, Riley, I really appreciate it."
I started feeling mad weird when she said all of that. Like yeah, I excepted a thank you, it just felt different to hear it. Like I liked hearing her say it. I leaned my head on hers and ate some popcorn. "Yeah, no problem."
After some talking and eating, Y/n was knocked out. She moved from my shoulder to my lap, sleeping like it was the most needed thing in the world. Speaking of needing sleep, where the fuck is Huey's ass at? Turning behind me, incomes Huey with the crowd. When he came up to us, he first looked at Y/n and then at me. "She fell asleep," I told him. He didn't say anything but sat on the other side of Y/n.
"Aye, what took you so long anyway?" I asked. "I was looking for this." He said as he took the ring out of his pocket. Now that I got a good look at it, it was Thug's ring. The encrusted diamonds made the letters T and M on the very front of it. If any other nigga lost, he'd be dead without a doubt. But her? He'd prolly just ground her or something.

After an hour had passed, the courtroom filled with the jury, attendants, lawyers, R. Kelly and his legal, and the judge. The judge stood at his throne, and declared; "All rise." Saying so, everyone stood. Huey stood while Riley, who was more than happy, stand seated, as you were still asleep in his lap. "With that all being said, all may be seated and the trial may begin. We will begin with a hearing from the defender of R. Kelly." With that being said, everyone took their seats, anticipating the awaiting events that will come from the trial.
Stirring awake from your sleep, you pulled yourself up from Riley's lap rubbing at your eyes while yawning. "Damn, you slept hard," Riley said, tracing the marks on the side of your face. Huey would guide yourself face towards to see. "It'll go away in about five minutes, also-" Huey handed you the ring.
At the sight of it, a rise of energy ran through you. "You found it!" You cheered, not caring about the eyes that darted toward you. "Yeah, it was at-" Not allowing him to finish his words, you pulled Huey into a neck-choking hug. "Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, I owe you for the rest of my life." You cheered, ignoring the demanding "Shh!" From the audience. "You're welcome, and squeezing too tight." Huey coughed. Quickly, you pulled yourself from around Huey, whispering an apology.
When all was well, you both turned your attention to the trial.
First to stand was Mr. Dubois. In the seats behind him, in his support were Jasmine, and his wife Sarah. A white woman with pale flawless skin, short straight blonde hair, and blue eyes. "Ladies and gentlemen we will not only prove that R. Kelly was the man in the video but that the girl in the video was fourteen," Mr.Dubois said to the jury.
"Thank you, Mr. Dubois, now we will have a brief statement from the defendant." The judge said. Standing up from R. Kelly's side was a pale white man. The very top of his head shined underneath the lights on the ceiling, as despite having busy gray hair at the sides of his head. To you, he looked like a mad scientist, minus the lab coat and goggles.
"People, men, women, children. Have we not come far from evolution? Since the beginning of time, men and women have been fascinated by not just their own, but the reproductive systems of the other sex. Coming into age, sex is a natural thing to happen between a man and a woman. As we know, as Americans we are bested by other countries on a constant. In Tokyo, for a simple coin, you can purchase a teenage girl's panties from a machine."
From the man's words, you visibly cringed as Riley laughed and Huey snarled in disgust. The lawyer would walk around the front one, spotting whatever nonsense that he can conjure to bring in further support from everyone.
"This mountain of evidence is hiding the fact of what it truly means. Racism." The man said. The R. Kelly supporters clapped their hands agreeing. Cocking up a brow in confusion, you looked to Huey, who had a set glare on the lawyer.
"How is it racist Huey? They're both black." You said to him. "Dumb niggas will believe anything just so one dumb nigga that fucked up can look like a good guy." He told you. "I guess that makes sense." You nonchalantly agreed. Huey looked ahead of the crowd to Tom, giving him a knowing nod, which Tom returned.
Once the other lawyer finally finished, Tom arose from his seat, holding an encased video disc in hand. "Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the R. Kelly tape," Mr.Dubois announced, receiving and gasp from the jury. From already witnessed the tape once before, you covered your eyes. Riley on the other hand gave his full attention to the screen.
"I warn you. It's quite disturbing. Avert your eyes if you can't stand it." Tom advised as he played the tape. It showed R. Kelly simply urinating on the girl. The jury was appalled and flabbergasted at the sight.
The lawyer of R. Kelly would slam his hands against his table, and point to the screen. "Objection your honor! We can't even see his face clearly!" He accused. Just as he said that the video showed R. Kelly fixing the camera. "That proves nothing!" He yelled in defense. Comically, it showed R. Kelly getting a call from someone and him telling the person his name and social security number as he yet again peed in the girl.
"Ewwwww, I lost my appetite," Riley whined, setting aside his popcorn. "That's what you get." You smiled, moving your hands from your eyes. With that, the footage was over and the jury glared daggers at R. Kelly's lawyer. "Your honor, I would like to call the victim to the stand," Tom said. The judge nodded and banged his mallet as the girl approached the stand. She was wearing the same outfit she wore in the video.
"Young lady, how old are you?" Tom asked the girl.
"Fourteen in a quarter." She answered.
"Could you describe the events leading up to the video?" Mr.Dubois asked her. "Okay, he asked if he could pee on me and I said sure! I mean it's R. Kelly! I've been peed on by guys who don't even have record deals. If I didn't want to get peed on I'd just move the hell out of the way." She said leaning back in her seat. "Ha! I told you!" Riley yelled in triumph. "Shut up Riley!" Huey demand. "Order!" The judge demanded, banging his mallet once more.
"No further questions your honor." With that, Tom took his seat once again. Next to arise was R. Kelly's lawyer.
"Would you describe yourself as an African American woman?" He asked her.
The look would look him up and down. "Nigga you blind?" She asked him in a sassy tone.
"Haha, no I'm not." He chuckled. "So it's safe to say that R. Kelly is sexually attracted to black women, right?" He asked with the victim nodding her head. "Objection, relavance!" Mr.Dubois yelled. "Dismissed!" The judge countered.
"Your honor I'm trying to establish to the court that my client is a proud black man who loves his black sisters, unlike district attorney Mr.Dubois. Who is married...to a white woman!!" He yelled as he pointed toward Sarah Dubois, Tom's wife.
The audience gasped and began to whisper among each other, glaring at the Dubois family in disgust. "Wait what? What does that have to do with anything?" You asked aloud. "Fucking nothing, this shit always happens," Huey complained, crossing his arms as his eyebrow twitched in irritation.
Riley would move to the seats behind R. Kelly, and tap the man's shoulder to get his attention. "Ay man, you got his card? He's good." Riley said to him. R. Kelly would nod as he reached into his jacket pocket and hand Riley the card.
Just as Riley was about to accept it, he drew his back and asked; "Did you wash your hands?" He asked. R. Kelly nodded and he accepted the card. Coming back to sit next to you and Huey, Riley would show you the card he had. It read, Bob Kingsley, defense attorney services.
Bob would approach the front, and begin a ranting speech. "We are here not to put an innocent man away for the eyes of white-collared Americans to smile at. We are here to defend the unheard and give this man justice. R. Kelly didn't pee on this girl just because, it's because America pissed on R. Kelly!"
The audience stood and cheered in agreement with what Bob said, unfortunately, Riley included. Despite all of Tom's efforts to prove that R. Kelly isn't innocent and that what Bob said is downright nonsense, the judge dismissed him and hammered his mallet, announcing R. Kelly's innocence.
To the news, R. Kelly sprang from his seat onto the table, taking out a microphone to sing. As he sang, everyone began to sing along and dance in joy. Riley, who was dancing, pulled you up from your seat so you could in. Despite knowing it wasn't right, you couldn't help yourself but dance with him. His hand intertwined with yours, and he spun you around before pulling you closer to dance with him once again.
During the mile-high, Huey got up from his seat and stomped his way to the judge's throne. Spotting a stereo that played the music, and a free microphone, he already knew what to do.

Huey's Pov.
~~~~
You have to be fucking kidding me.
Only one thing was on my mind as I walked to the front room. How could people be so fucking stupid? The evidence was so clear and factual, it didn't make any sense. As I turned on the switch to the microphone, I turned off the stereo that brought everyone's eyes to me.
"What the hell is wrong with you people!?" I shouted. "Every famous nigga isn't Nelson Mandela. Yes, the government conspires to put a lot of innocent black men in jail for no reason, but R. Kelly is not one of those men! We all know the nigga can sing, but what happened to standards, what happened to bare minimums? Are you all fans of R. Kelly? Y'all wanna help R. Kelly? Then get some counseling for R. Kelly. Then introduce him to some older women, but don't pretend like the man is a hero!" With as much vigor and anger as I could put into my words, I ended my speech, not before I had something else to add.
"And stop the damn dancing! Act like you got some good damn sense people! Damn! Done playing around here!"
The courtroom was silent. "Booo!! Ay you with the afro, give it a rest! Beat it! Put the music back on!" Riley yelled. Rolling my eyes to Riley, I saw Y/n smack Riley upside his head as the music was turned back on. Then it was turned off, this time by Y/n. "Awe come on what n-" The man was stopped by Y/n saying, "He's right."
Once again, another surprised gasp from the audience. Walking through everyone, she made her way toward me. Clearing her throat, she spoke into the mic. "Look, I'm going, to be honest with everyone. I don't care about R. Kelly." Once against they gasped. "Stop gasping! Cause he doesn't care about any of you! You wanna know why? Because he refuses to take accountability for his actions. How can you all stand here, and call him a good person, when he does the same horrible thing, over, and over again? What he's done aren't mistakes, these are literal crimes that affect others. Also, how dare you all criticize Mr. Dubois for his choices. Who gives a shit that Sarah's white? at least he didn't piss on a fourteen-year-old white girl, then there would be a problem. R. Kelly doesn't need help, because he won't bother to get himself. He needs to be imprisoned. Also, who the fuck likes getting peed on? That's so gross! Like all of you!"
I looked at her with a smile as I turned off the microphone, and set it back down. Taking her hand, we walked out to the courtroom, just to hear the music begin to play again. "Are you kidding me?" She said, looking back to the court as I brought her to sit with me in the middle of the stairs.
A chill breeze danced with turning leaves. The sun was close to fully set, with the sky turning a light orange with it. Y/n buried her hands further into her cardigan to warm herself. Without a thought, I took off my jacket and handed it to her. She looked at me and smiled as she put on my jacket. Her arms barely went through the entire sleeve. "Thanks, Huey. You always know what to do in any situation."
"It's no problem. You.. surprised me with what you said back there. I don't mean to offend you when I say that, you never struck me to be outspoken." She would laugh. "You're totally right. I hate speaking in public, but I had you next to me so I was at ease." She said, a giggle following after she spoke. I could say you make me feel at ease as well. I'd never admit it willingly.
She leaned her head against my shoulder, shutting her eyes as a smile painted her face. It was a comforting, and peaceful moment. The music becomes nothing but a muffled noise for a while before it was briefly heard then back to muffled. Turning our heads, we saw Riley make his way to sit on the other side of Y/n.
Y/n stayed against me as he looked at Riley. "What brings you out here?" She asked him. "Y'all were right.." He mumbled in reply. Y/n looked at me with a knowing grin. "What was that?" I asked, a grin managing to form on my lips. "Yeah, we couldn't hear that." She said, letting out a giggle slip. "Tch, y'all two dumbasses were right, damn!" He exclaimed. We would both laugh as Riley rolled his eyes.
The three of you, sat on the steps, looking at the falling sun. Once the sun had disappeared, Huey stood up, it being an unspoken way of saying, "It's time to go.' Forcing yourselves up from the steps, you and Riley followed Huey down to the sidewalk. You came to an abrupt stop once there was an ache in your feet that you could no longer take. The brothers looked at you as took off your shoes, sighing in relief.
"Sorry, my feet hurt when I wear these for too long." You explained, wincing at the next step you took. Huey stepped before you before turning around and kneeling on one knee. "Just get on." That was all he said. Too tired to argue, you obliged. With your arms on his shoulders resting on his shoulders and your legs laying limply in his arms, Huey stood on his two feet with ease.
Riley picked up your shoes from the sidewalk, yawning as the sky darkened. On foot to the bus stop, you slipped into slumber the entire way. Even during the night drive on the bus top, you sleeping in Huey's lap, Riley sleeping on his older brother's shoulder, and Huey staring out the window as the night passed, you felt secure.
You felt safe.
You felt at home.
