"What's your name, girlfriend, what's your name?"

"What is your name, what do you bring?"

"Nyx, it's time to get up. School starts soon." A voice said as you were gently shaken. You only whined and swatted the hand away before turning over to your side. Muttering voices conspired around you, nearly waking you from the desperate hold your sleep had upon you. "Man, that ain't gonna wake her ass up, watch this." A deeper voice confidently said, clearing their throat the same voice yelled, "AYO THEY SHOOTING!" As you were roughly shaken awake. Startled you sprung out of bed, wide-eyed and panting. "Dumbass, you ain't supposed to scare her!" Luna scolded, swatting her brother on the back of his head. Otis laughed, fighting with his sister's hits.

"Aye, aye, it got her up, didn't it?" He chuckled, falling back on your bed. Just as he did, you slapped him in the face with your pillow. He'd groan as you and Luna laughed as both tackled the man with pillows. Joyous laughter and muffled swears were exchanged as you three ambushed one another until you were tossed over Otis's shoulder and Luna was held by her wrist. "Ight, ight, ya'll win. Don't think yo' ass still ain't going to school off the win." Otis heaved with a chuckle. "Still? I won!" You whined, as you were placed onto your feet and Luna was let go. "Nyx, we talked about this. You still gotta go no matter what." Luna said, tossing the pillow back onto your bed, before ushering you to the bathroom.

"Now go wash up, the chef is still making breakfast. You don't wanna be late for the bus on your first day too." Luna said. "The bus? She ain't takin' the bus, Lu. She ridin' with me." Otis told, earning a surprised look from his sister. "What? Don't you think people will find it suspicious? And give her a lot of unwanted attention? She could just ride the bus like a normal kid." Luna replied, a rise of irritation laced with worry in her voice. Not wanting the situation to escalate, you stepped between the two. "Lu, I don't mind riding with Otis. And maybe after a while...I can take the bus by myself? It's my choice of how I want to go to school anyways." You told, looking between them.

Luna and Otis looked down upon you, then apologetically at one another. "You're right Nyx, it's up to her. So, we cool Lu?" Otis asked, hooking his arm around his sister's shoulder to side hug her with a smile. It managed to win her over and smile as well. "You're both right, next time just tell me about these things. But that doesn't matter now, Nyx still needs to get ready." Luna said, seeming more relaxed. "Okay, I'll be down in a few. In the meantime, get out." You deadpanned, pointing to the front door. The three of you laughed before you continued with your morning routine.

While getting ready, you considered wasting some time to miss your first class, maybe even the introductions. It was no use anyways, you still had plenty of time to eat as much as you wanted at breakfast and have a safe ride to school. Running out of your closet, dressed with your outfit for the day, you were shoving last-minute items into your bag. Next was packing yourself a few sweets to enjoy in between classes, that being just lollipops, gum, and two candy canes.

The school had a BYOD policy, "Bring Your Own Device", which is strictly for school purposes. Ha, sure. Taking your iPad from your desk and the charger cord, you dressed it in the clear protective case and keyboard. Carefully, placing it into your bag, between your sketch pad and books, you zipped your bag shut. Tightening the straps of your bag over your shoulders, you approached your full-body mirror to look yourself over one more time.

You groaned in frustration as your pushed your endless and tedious curls from your face. God forbid you to go downstairs with your hair covering your face. It would drive Luna up the wall, asking questions and forcing an unwanted hairstyle on you. Finally managing to get your hair to agree with your demands, you made your way downstairs, sighing once you reached the dining room.

Entering the dining room, you found Otis speaking with his partners in the "Lethal Interjection Crew". While Macktastic was silently comforting Luna, who was forcing herself to hide a smile from his sweet words to calm her nerves.

"Good morning everyone!" You announced, getting various greetings from the smiling adults. "Ey, mornin' Nyx, what you doin' today?" Leonard asked, briefly drinking from his glass of orange juice. "I'm going to school! I'll be back around three or four, it depends. I might stay back to look at clubs." You said, sitting in your reserved chair. Just as you did, Kiara walled into the dining room with a golden tray in hand.

"Good morning, young 'nificent, for breakfast the chef has prepared soufflé pancakes, with homemade maple syrup, fresh berries, and pure whip cream. Along with a strawberry smoothie." She placed your meal on the mat before you. Your mouth watered at the sight of it all.

"Thank you, Miss Kiara, same to the chef." You smiled before devouring to warm goodness you were severed. "Damn school? What do you need to go there for? You're already smart." Flonominal said. "It's mandatory to the law for her to go to school, Flo. I'm not saying you aren't smart, school teaches you more than you already know, Nyx." Macktastic told you, his tone seeming softer when he spoke to you.

Mack and you didn't have an easy start when meeting one another. He practically avoided you like the plague. That however didn't last long. Just like every adult in this mansion, he was wrapped around your finger. Just like Luna, he was brutally honest and just as protective over you.

With a smile, you nodded, nowhere near offended by his words. "That's okay, I understand. But after school, I get to go dancing classes!" You cheered, sipping from the gold straw to enjoy your smoothie. "Nah, what you should do is sign up for basketball. You run fast a hell, and kick mad hard." Otis told, rubbing at his shoulder at the memory of the excoriating pain he was in when you kicked the ball his way on that fateful day.

All of the men at the table agreed, whilst you laughed with Luna. After finishing your breakfast, you said your final goodbyes before making your way to the front door. Otis told you he had to speak with the others, so you ended up waiting idly by the door. A feeling you couldn't describe swarmed you. It wasn't fear. It wasn't excitement either. Perhaps, you felt numb? Going to a new school wasn't that bad. Of course, it was going to be different from your previous school in Chicago. It'd most likely be better, in some cases.

"Y/n?"

You turned around to find Kiara at your side with a fairly sized black box in one hand, and a gradient glass water bottle that held a bubbly red liquid. "I wasn't sure if Thug or Luna wanted you to buy lunch or pack your own, so I went ahead and asked the chef to do so." She smiled, handing them to you. You return the smile as you took off your backpack to carefully set them in. "Thanks, Kiara, I had no idea either." You giggled, putting on your bag once everything was set. "Well, thankfully I'm paranoid enough to double check everything and make assumptions." She laughed, you joining.

One thing about Kiara is that when she's comfortable with you, you learn that her sense of humor is uprooted from a twisted side of her. At first, you never wanted to breach that category of humor, but after a while, you managed to find a bond with her off of that. Just as you and Kiara started a conversation, Otis and Luna made their way toward you.

"Oh, I'm gonna miss you so much!" Luna whined, wrapping you in her arms, smothering you in the strong scent of her perfume. Snickering, you hugged her. "I'll only be gone for seven hours, maybe earlier on half days." "Ugh, I know, and there won't be a time I can drive you there. I had to reschedule two meetings just to see you this morning." She sighed, combing her hand through your hair, being careful not to drag your curls by her long nails.

"You didn't have to do that for me." You sighed. "Shit, she ain't ever do somethin' like that for me," Otis spoke, earning an irritated huff and glare from Luna. "You are too damn grown to need your sister on your first day for something." She spat, making you laugh and Kiara chuckle. Otis laughed and patted her shoulder. "You know you love your big bro, don't act like you don't." He grinned as Luna only rolled her eyes. "Yeah, yeah, now back to you Nyx. Take this, this is for your lunch, and other snacks you would want when you're hungry." Luna then gave you a crisp one hundred dollar bill from her wallet.

You gasped in amazement at the money, before tucking the money safely into one of your pockets. You were hardly trusted with your own lunch money back at Chicago. "Thanks, Lu!" You didn't bother to mention Kiara packed lunch for you, but extra money in your pocket was always good. Once goodbyes were said, you, Otis, the Lethal Interjection Crew, and two bodyguards were seated in the signature gold limo. You sat in the front with Otis, well more like by the doors.

With your knees pressed against the seat, you looked out the window to watch your surroundings pass you by. " 'Ey Nyx lemme tell you something," Otis spoke. You nodded and sat down on the seat looking up at him, as his gaze was focused on the large stack of money in his hand. Calmly, counted through it as he lectured you. "When you get to this school, me and Lu want you to be the smartest person in that bitch. I ain't talking talking' about all that Einstein shit, cause that'll give you some problems."

"Yeah it would, but I get where you're going with this." You told. "Good. I know Lu wants you to have straight A's, like her, but I don't need all of that. I'll take B's and some C's, mainly in that math shit. I ain't ever been good in that, but at least try, ight? I don't want you to end up like us." His eyes met yours once he finished. You were more than aware of Otis' past, and how it affected him today. Luna perhaps may have a clean slate, but someone had to do the dirty work. He only wanted the best for those he cared for, especially you. Just like him.

You nodded, as your nails pinched at the fabric of your jeans. "Okay, I understand." Otis hummed and proceeded. "Good, but if some niggas try you, and it starts a fight. Don't be the bigger person and not fight, show them you're not to be messed with. I know you got into a fight back at Chicago, barely will happen here, especially with the guards' watchin' ya. And even if some bitch or little nigga spittin' game with you, tell em' I kill people."

"Absolutely not!" You declared, slapping your hand against the seat. He howled in laughter to your flustered reaction. How dare he attempt to ruin any possible chance in your love life! "What? I just don't want somebody buggin' you when you workin' for your degree." He heaved with an ending chuckle. Rolling your eyes, you crossed your arms with a pout. "I'll just say no." "Shit, fine by me." Thug shrugged. He would then nudge your shoulder with his fist, two one hundred dollar bills scrunched in his palm. "Something extra when you get there." He said. Smiling, you took the money and hugged him. "Thanks, Thug, for everything so far."

Otis was frozen in place for a moment before contributing to the hug. "Anytime Y/n."

Eventually, the limo arrived at the school building. An abundance of students, flocked around the campus, some walking and running their way past one another. Teachers and staff members could be seen, walking in cliques among the students. Through the tinted windows, they all stared at the limo. "Damn, this the place? Shit, look mad easy to break in." Flonominal cackled. "You sure this place is safe for her Thug?" Macktastic asked. "Yeah, this place is ight. Besides, she got the guards and extra shit, she'll be ight." Otis ignored the comments from the others as the limo stopped at the entrance.

You tugged at Otis' hand as the limo was opened for you both. "Come on, I want you to walk with me to the office." You told him. Otis quickly tucked the money in his pocket and nodded. "I got to anyways. You niggas chill out here, we'll be back." He told the others. The three men would nod to his order, and wish you goodbye with smiles, you did the same in return.

Otis was first to step out of the limo, his bland scowl switched to a presentable smile to the adoring students. He held his hand out to you whilst you stepped out. Taking his hand with a tight grip, a wave of unease washed over you when you felt every eye on you. Whispers and gasps filled your ears.

"Oh my gosh, who's that?"

"He has a daughter? When was that?"

"She's so short, that's cute!"

"She has just as much hair as him! I wanna touch it!"

"I wonder who her mom is. She defiantly got her looks."

"She's so pretty!"

"I didn't know this school accepts new kids that quickly. He had to bride them or something."

Endless voices of praise and mockery were all you heard on the way to the front doors. "Just ignore them Nyx, they don't know shit," Otis whispered to you. "I know, but it's kinda funny. Some of them think you're my dad." You said, a nervous laugh escaping you. "Tch, I ain't like that bum nigga. That's a fact." He huffed. Otis and every other adult didn't hesitate to show their hatred for your parents, your father especially. "I know you're not, you're nicer. And cooler!" Your words seemed to make Otis smile more genuine. His arm reached behind your back, and his hand gently patted your back. " 'ppreciate it Y/n."

Once the two of you reached the front desk, a plump woman with pale wrinkled skin, short brown hair that parted in the middle of her forehead, and bright green cat-eye glasses, sat behind the desk, quickly typing at the desk computer. Her brown eyes looked up from the screen to you both in surprise to find you both silently entering the room. "Oh my! Mr. Jenkins, it's a pleasure to see you. That must be the little one I assume?" The woman hummed in a sweet tone. "Yeah, this is lil'nificent. Say hi." Otis said. "Hi, I'm Y/n." You spoke, waving to the woman.

She would giggle and wave back. Just before she could say another word, a tall man stepped out from the further hall in the office. He had the same pale skin as the woman, his face only wrinkled when he smiled. He looked too young to have any wrinkles. His hair was slicked back with gel, which made his dark brown hair shine in the light. He wore the average suit and a tie any man could wear, the only difference was the gold pin of the school's mascot, an eagle, on his suit.

He would approach you both with a wide smile, his arms held out in a friendly greeting. "Ah, Thugnificent! A pleasure to have you here so early! Oh, this must be the little Marwood?" He kneeled to your height, holding his hand out to you. "My, my, my, aren't you adorable. I'm principal Ivory, a pleasure to meet you." He said. Despite his freighting and eccentric attitude, he seemed nice. Hesitantly you shook hands with him, his grip going light once noticing how delicate you were.

Otis eventually pulled your hand from his and huffed. "Ight, where her classes gonna be at? Don't she need a schedule and shit?" Otis asked the principal. "Why of course! Meredith, do you have her file ready?" He asked the woman at the front desk. "Why of course! This folder has her ID card and her schedule. Her lanyard as well." She said, handing Mr. Ivory a yellow folder that had your name written on the very front. Mr. Ivory would nod with a smile, before handing the folder to you. "Thank you.." You say before looking into the folder.

On the left side, your ID was similar to a credit card, it just had the school's mascot of a soaring eagle. The only blank side of the ID was where your face was supposed to be. "It's only blank because you weren't here for picture day. Thankfully we do it twice every school year!" He beamed. Wow, how exciting! Not. You forced a laugh before looking at your class schedule. You had four advanced classes, one study hall, and three standard classes. Thankfully your lunch period was timely managed.

"Aye, what's with the advanced classes?" Otis asked. "Oh, that? Well, looking at Y/n's records from her previous school, she was already in some honor and advanced classes. Just like before in her old school, she'll be taking classes above her grade level. She even gets to participate with the older kids, it's nothing bad, I swear." Mr. Ivory explained. "Well damn, didn't know you were that smart." Otis chuckled, ruffling your head. "What's that supposed to me?" You huffed. "Nothin', nothin', just means you dumb as hell sometimes." He cackled.

You stomped your foot on the tile and swung your clenched fist to his side. "Shut up, you're embarrassing me!" Otis only laughed, with an occasional groan of pain as he held his side. "Ight, ight, damn." He chuckled. Rolling your eyes, you looked up to Mr. Ivory, who looked down at you happily. "Can we start with a tour?" With a wide smile, he clasped his hands together. "I thought you'd never ask!"

Riley's Pov.

Thanks to Ruckus's old ass, we missed another ride on the bus. Granddad didn't even bother to give a ride either! So now I gotta walk with Huey's gay ass to school. The entire walk, I kicked a rock to the campus. With one kick, the rock landed in the street to just be run over by a gold limo. "Aye, I know that ride! That's the Lethal Interjection Crew!" I yelled. "Okay, and?" Huey said. I rolled my eyes and waved him off.

"See, you don't get it, 'cause all you do is hate. Once I'm part of the crew and get my own ride like that, don't ask for shit. Only one of us would look good with it anyways." I laughed. Huey just rolled his eyes and walked ahead. "Shut up Riley, we might miss the first period."

Shit, that would be fine with me. Not like we learning anything here anyways. Me and Huey walked to the front desk, got our passes, and went off to classes. He went his own way, I went mine. Walking into the class, I slammed my pass on the teacher's desk before walking to my desk, right next to C-Murph. Her real name is Cindy, but we got codenames for each other.

"Mornin' Reezy." She grinned, holding her fist up to me. "What's good," I bumped my fist against hers as I sat down. "Man, we got a new kid. And they got moneyyyy." She grinned, rubbing her hands together. "For real? Say less. What class they got?" I asked. "I know she got advanced classes, she probably has some with Huey. But bro, you should've seen the limo she pulled up in. But she was real chill about it. She doesn't dress like she's from here either." She said, circling her finger on the desk.

"Limo? Was it golden and had spinnin' gold rims?" I asked. "Mhm! And that's not all, Thugnifucent himself was with her! Even some guards too! The rest of the crew was chilling by limo, but they gone by now. The girl is just around campus with Ivy." My eyes went wide in shock. There's no way somebody can be that cool with Thugnificent that he'd pull to their school. "Ain't no way, you lyin'." I huffed, leaning back with my arms crossed. "How the fuck are you gonna tell me if I'm lying? You weren't even there, bum!" She raged.

"I know you ain't just call me a bum-"

Knock knock.

Second Person Point of View.

~~~~
The teacher silenced the talkative class as the front door to the classroom was opened. Stepping inside was the principal, at his side was you. Deep down you wished your hair would go against you and cover your face completely, but as always, your hair was never a friend to you.
"Mr. Ivory, what brings you to our class?" Asked the teacher. "Well, I'm here to introduce a new student to your class. Yes, the rumors are true, she Is related to famous people-" A roar of gasp and whispers filled the room.
"But! That doesn't mean, you all should treat her any differently! Everyone this is Y/n Marwood. She went to a school in Chicago before coming here. She is already well accustomed to our campus grounds, so no one needs to skip class to give her a tour." The class grains to his last words, and you couldn't help but relate.
You would take the same chance to skip class if met showing some kid around. "Well, that'll be all. Have a great day everyone, and remember, always soar! For greatness and success!" He cheered before stepping out of the classroom, slamming the door once he left. In the deafening silence, the teacher clapped his hands together. "Well, that was quite an introduction. Y/n, would you mind introducing yourself to the class? Like telling some of your hobbies, or family life." The teacher said, leaning against his desk.
"Uhm, okay. Well, I'm Y/n, I'm from Chicago, I like to listen to music, read, and dance? I have an older brother, he'd be with the high schoolers. And, that's it." You shrugged, shoving your hands into your pockets. The teacher and a few students clapped. "Wonderful, before we begin, why don't you take the seat by the window? We haven't assigned seats yet, but I'm sure that will do for now." The teacher would lead you to the seat in the front row. You were more than happy to have seat by the window, watching the school from above was going to be a delight for you.
As you sat down, the teacher then began the class lesson. Just as he began, you left eyes on you. Turning behind you, your eyes met with bright blue eyes. A girl with similar platinum blonde hair, styled in the two braids that passed down her back. She looked like the girl you saw in the garden yesterday. So did the boy next to her! The girl gave you a salute as a silent greeting, while the boy only glared at you. His gaze made you shiver, yet you waved to them. Only the blonde smiled at you.
Eventually class ended, and you quickly made your way to your next class. That was a struggle. Passing by students, not so much. It was just the tour the principal gave, was barely helpful, thankfully you managed. Stepping into the classroom, you noticed it wasn't full of many students, just four. Instead of having separated desks, there were connected tables, only taking two students per table.
"Yes, may I help you?" The elder woman at her desk said. "O-Oh, sorry. I'm Y/n, I'm the new student joining this class. Are you Mrs. Green?" You asked, approaching her desk with your schedule in hand.
She looked at you with a smile. "Why yes I am, and yes, I'm aware of you joining. I thank you for being here early, do you want to present to yourself when the class arrives? There's no pressure, I'm sure every teacher will ask this of you." She said. "Thank you, and yeah, I don't want to." You told her with a slight smile. "That's fine, now, I'll sit you with one of the students. We are in the middle of a current lesson, and I wouldn't want you too to fall behind." She looked between the few students, her eyes landing on the boy in the far back by the window.
"Ah, Freeman!" She called. You looked in her direction to find a boy, who looked familiar to the previous boy in your first period. He also looked like the boy you saw in the garden! It had to be him. There's no way you can come across someone so unique more than once, but here we are. "Y/n will be your desk partner for the year. Do you mind assisting her so she can be up to date with our lesson?" The boy only shrugged at the woman's request, she took that as a "yes" regardless. "Wonderful, go on and have a seat dear." Mrs. Green gently tapped your shoulder to encourage you forward.
Silently, you walked through the clear aisle, mindful of your pacing, to the last desk, and took the empty seat by the window. "Uhm...hi." You spoke as you sat down, placing your bag on your side of the desk. His gaze only stayed on the book in front of him, he only gave you a monotone hum as his greeting. He doesn't seem to be much of a talker, let alone a morning person. Just being in his vicinity, the strong scent of dark roast coffee beans, cigarette smoke with a hint of minty cinnamon. Perhaps it was clove? You couldn't tell for sure.
Unsure of whether you should start a conversation, you pulled out your textbook and pencil case with your necessary stationery items. Just as you opened the book, he spoke. "Chapter three, page 60. We passed the basics, this lesson is just a rundown of it, before the actual thing, ten pages over. It's just basic congruence statements, properties, radicals with variables and stuff." His tone remained bored and monotone. He couldn't be any more uninterested! Regardless you nodded with a hum, flipping through the pages. He was right, it was just the basics. You moderately understood it all, but it would take you some time to fully grasp it. Paying extra attention, and watching a few YouTube videos when you get home will be enough for you.
You looked to the boy next to you, who was still reading, then looked to the whiteboard in the front of the class. The lesson plans were written in bold blue on the right-hand side. "Complete pages 60-63 as a class, pages 64 and 1-5 on 65 will be done independently!" "Might as well start ahead.." You muttered to yourself, taking out a mechanical pencil to use, along with your calculator. You weren't that much of a genius that you could solve math problems in your head. Resting your chin in the palm of your hand as you worked away, his eyes ever so occasionally looked your way.
Huey's Pov.
~~~~

Her name enough was a confirmation. It was her. Yesterday, in the front yard, she sat in the garden, with the sun shining down on her. Her laughs echoed throughout the whole neighborhood for that hour. That same night, the only noise coming from late-night crickets, her laugh sung above them. I want to slap myself for automatically assuming she knew morse code. The minute she looked my way, through the endless curls that crowded her face made me feel...odd? I can't describe it. And her presence. I can easily define it. She's like rain. But spring in late May whilst the sun is still out.

Why the hell am I so stuck on her? I need to focus on reading.

"The stamp also serves as a reminder of the stock from which we were born-" Tap, tap, tap, tap, tap. I look to my side to her typing in the equation she was stuck on. Pressing the eraser of her pencil to the buttons of her calculator. As she did, she recovered an answer she wasn't satisfied with. Her split brow arched upward before her eyebrows furrowed in anger. Eyeing the page, I saw the problem she was stuck on. That was easy enough. I take my pencil from beside my book and tap the side of her table to grab her attention.

She looks at me surprised. "HG is 25.3," I tell her.

With a quick look at the problem she says, "No it's not, it's higher than that."

Excuse me? I'm the one helping her, not the other way around. "And how is that?" I ask, turning to completely face her. "How is it 25.3? Unless you ignored the like terms or put in the wrong number. It would be higher." She says, not intimidated in the slightest. That can't be right. I reach for her textbook, to look closer at the equation. Silently, I worked the problem in my head. "It's 25.3, Y/n. There is no other answer." I state. She shakes her head. Pointing to her calculator, which had the number 25.6 on the screen. "Nope, 25.6." From her tone, it didn't seem like she'd take my word for it. Like I'll let some expensive calculator outsmart me.

I lean back in my chair, crossing my arms. "Maybe you typed the problem wrong," I suggest. She mimics my movements. "Maybe you worked the problem wrong." She fired.

Was she, mocking me?

Riiiiing!!

The chime of the alert bell rang, as a sea of students flooded the classroom. Rolling my eyes I return to my book. "She'll correct you during the lesson," I tell her. "Right back to you!" She chirps, facing the front. What a nuisance. This just might be enjoyable.

~~~~
"And, hence why the measure of HG is 25.6, understandable class?" Mrs. Green asks the class, receiving a well amount of "yes" from the students. "Well, that will be all! You all see what the board says, so get to it! It'll be beneficial for a much lighter homework load for today." She says, closing the cap to her marker before placing it on the board.
Un-fucking-believable.
She was right.
Amid my shameful bewilderment, she passed me a lavender-colored note, it read, "You were off by three! :)". I look at her, she side-eyed me with a smile. It wasn't boastful or conniving. It was a simple, genuine smile. I huff and write down my reply to her.
"You bested me by one problem."
She'd smile, and reply. "There's still fifteen more problems to do"
"To work on, independently. Mr.s Green said so."
"You don't look like the type to listen to Mrs. Green."
She got me there. I deliberately go out of my to-do the lessons of any class I have on my own unless there is a problem I'll need their guidance for. I look at her once more, watching her quietly unwrap cherry flavored lollipop. Folding the note card, I reach into my bag for my textbook. What harm could this cause? It's just thirty minutes. Laying my book next to hers, I flip to the page as she smilies away. She pushed her textbook closer to mine, along with pushing her chair my way. I didn't move. It's only thirty minutes.
Time couldn't have gone faster. Just in a snap, we were done with the problems. For the rest of the class period, we talked. Normally, I'd end a conversation by the fifth topic, but everything was so intriguing with her. Occasionally popping the red bubble of gum, she'd ramble about anything. She seemed, annoying, but bearable. Whilst we talked, we'd play Hangman and TicTacToe, I admit, there were times I let her win. Her score was drastically lower than mine, that wasn't even laughable. Well, to me it was.
I chuckled. "Told you, I am funny." She snickered. "I'm not laughing at your joking, I'm laughing at how bad you are in TicTacToe," I said, adding my circle in the space that connected my pattern. She gasped in disbelief. "Bullshit!" She hissed under her breath. "You had to cheat, there's no way." She accused, her hushed tone reaching a slightly higher volume. I chuckled, pointing to the open space she could've used with my pencil. "No, you just missed the open spaces to block me, and win." I would write the X in the places she could've used.
She popped her gum with a pout. "Ugh fine, you win. What flavor do you like?" She asked. That's a weird question to ask. "Why would that matter to anything? Are you going to give me something for beating you?" I grin. Her lips pout in shock, "I was, not anymore after how much of a bragger you are." She huffed, turning her head to the window. I couldn't help but laugh. I closed both of our textbooks, before leaning on the desk, and outstretching my arm to tap her shoulder. "That isn't fair. I beat you., don't be a sore loser." I told.
She turns to me, popping the gum once more. "I know, you just brag like one." She grinned. I rolled my eyes and tapped my finger against the desk. then I thought of what flavor I could like. Her reward to me was most likely going to be a lollipop, I never cared for the flavors. I do like bitter and sour things. "Do you have lime?" I asked. "Hm? Lime what?" She asked. "Lime anything. My prize." I muttered the last part. She nodded and reached into her pocket to take out a wrapped lime-flavored lollipop. Just as I reached for it, she pulled it out of my reach. "Ah, ah, ah, on one condition." She sang a grin plastered on her face.
Intrigued, I arched my brow to her request. "No bragging." That's it? "That's it? Okay." I don't mind silent victory. "Great, here's your reward!" She handed the treat to me, and I took it. I hummed a thank you as I opened it. I wasn't going to bother to save it for lunch, there was no point. Just as I popped the treat in my mouth, the dismal blared. Immediately students were pushing out of their chairs and rushing through the front door. Mrs. Green yelling out to them a reminder of tonight's homework. I and Y/n were the only two who seemed to take our time packing our things and leaving the class.
As we walked to the door together, Mrs. Green called for Y/n stopping us both by the front door. "Oh Y/n, I hope I didn't rush through the lesson. If you like, you can come during your free period and we can go over the lesson together." She said. "Thanks, Mrs. Green, but that's okay, he helped me a lot! And it was kinda funny too." She giggled. "It was one problem." I defended. She only laughed as Mrs. Green hummed. "Well, I'm glad Huey was able to help you. You two may go on your way now." Mrs. Green says, waving to us.
"Okay, have a good day Mrs. Green!" She cheers, as I only waved silently and walked out of the class with her.
"You know, I just realized I never asked your name the entire class period. Sorry, that was rude of me." She told. I shrug. "You don't need to apologize, I never told you it. Well, in person that is." I saying her. She gave a shocked reaction. "So, it was you? You were the one with the flashlight." With each word, her smile grew. "Yeah, and that was you on the balcony from the mansion with a flashlight. What were you doing that late?" I asked. "I could ask you the same thing." She retorted.
Alright, smart ass.
"But, to answer your question. I just couldn't sleep that night. I was just nervous about today, but talking to some random loner on the roof seemed to help." She giggled. I tighten a frown at the word "loner". "I'm not, a loner," I said. "Of course not, you're the school popular guy with everyone always around you." She says, gesturing to the empty hallway we were walking through. "Tch, fine." I huffed, rolling eyes as I walked slightly ahead.
"Wait, wait, wait! You aren't a loner!" She says, gently placing her hand on my shoulder. "Unless..." She drags. "Unless. What?" I ask. Her eyes beam as you stood in front of me. Her hands were behind her back as she leaned back and forth on her feet. "Unless, you and I considered each other, friends!" She said.
"Friends?" I ask. "Mhm! If you want to. It'll just be a bit awkward when we sit together." She told me. "How about strangers?" I grin, watching her face twist in disbelief. "Woooow! How about acquaintances? I mean, we are aware that each other exists!" She claims. She couldn't be serious. I can't believe it.
I held my sides as I laughed. "Exist? That's the claim you use? You could've said that we go to the same school and have class together! Or even how you live across from me!" I laughed. Through the tears in my eyes, I watch her stomp her foot in an attempt to seem angry, but she ended up laughing herself. She didn't mind being her own joke. "Look, I didn't think it through okay? But it works! Come on, just say yes, I gotta get my next period." She giggled. I sniffed as I heaved out my last laugh and wiped away a tear. "Fine, fine, we can be, acquaintances. Because we both know each other exists." I chuckled.
"Great, we both know we're alive! I gotta go now, I'll see you later, Huey! Bye!" She waves to me before running right past. I watched her race down the hall before she turned the corner.
In one whole hour, I surpassed my own set of boundaries. I willingly talked to her, even about the dumbest things that would drive me mad. Played a childish game on paper, and willingly took defeat for her own ego. Accepted her treat, and her offer of being friends- acquaintances. We are acquaintances.
Shaking my head, I make my way to my next class period. That's when it hit me.
I never asked what was her next class.
