"Hey, y/n!"
I hear a voice call out from behind me. I turn around to see a boy i've never seen before.
"Hi? Do you need something," i ask politely. "I was wondering if you could ask annabeth something for me," he asked me.
Of course. Should've expected that.
"Sure.. what is it," i ask him.
———
That was not the first or last time someone has asked me to ask annabeth something for them. Or if i could do something.
Nothing against her of course. She's my sister. We've been family before this whole camp thing anyways. I mean there's not many differences between us, but what actually made her different? Was that she did everything just better.
Archery? Better.
Swimming? Better.
Sparring? Better.
Confidence? Better.
Talking? Better.
Breathing? Better.
I can't help myself but feel jealous cause i whenever i find one thing i would be really good at and feel proud, she would do better at it. One time she asked me what i was doing and i told her i was baking. She tried it. She did better. Better than me when i first tried it.
What can't she do?
I'm going insane just thinking about this.
My thoughts came crashing as soon i felt myself crash to the ground. What a coincidence.
"Oh my bad, y/n," the voice say.
I look up to see percy. I think him and annabeth had a thing a year ago. Annabeth wouldn't stop talking about him. Then she stopped. She wouldn't tell me why.
She just said, "it's for the better."
He helps me back up to my feet.
"Thanks," i say kind of plainly.
"What's gotten in your head? You're normally observant," he chuckles.
I was slightly surprised by that. How would he know that?
"nothing really.. just a busy day that's all," i smile at him. I was about to walk away when he pulled me back lightly.
"Sorry, but if you don't mind me asking-"
I sigh, "no, i'm not gonna ask annabeth anything for you."
"what?" he asked puzzled.
"sorry. habit. continue," i apologized awkwardly.
he shook his head regaining his thoughts. He laughed shortly before continuing, "do people always come up to you about annabeth?"
I groan, "don't even get me started on it. I love her, but she needs to like leave those bells outside her cabin if someone needs her."
We began walking to who knows where. All we did was talk. We asked questions for each other and played games to get to know another better. It was kind of nice. I was happy it wasn't all about annabeth. I kind of want to ask him about what happened, but it was a year ago.
You know what, i'm just gonna enjoy the moment.
"Do you enjoy baking? Or is that just a side thing," he asks me. I look at him confused.
"Baking? What are you talking about," i ask him.
"You bake, don't you? I've tasted them before. It's really good," he smiles.
"That's not possible. I always gave my stuff to annabeth," i tell him.
"Who do you thinks she shares them with," he laughs.
"You guys still talk? She stopped talking about you since last year. Actually, she stopped telling me things since last year, unfortunately," i sigh.
"that's funny... she literally never stops talking about you when we hang out," he says.
I think on that.
"But anyways, do you want to like go somewhere with me," he asks me.
"are we not right now," i ask him, laughing.
"i mean like more than this," he says.
"uhh yeah sure," i tell him. Not really understanding where this was headed.
(honestly, I have no idea where this story is heading 😭. I'm just yapping.)
———
After that day, percy always gave me time. He would come by and just talk with me. He would share food. He would gift me random things. He would tell me things that no one knew about me. Literally things i don't even acknowledge about myself.
Small things do matter.
———
"Hey! Look what i found you," percy showed me a small flower.
"a honeysuckle," i ask him confused.
He took my hand and placed the flower on the palm of my hand.
"yeah! you told me one time that back then when you were younger, whenever you and annabeth went out you would always grab these," he smiles proudly.
"Where'd you find this," i ask him.
He shrugs.
"I cant believe you remember. I told you that like a month ago," i laugh and hug him.
"I never forget anything you say," he smiles.
"That's so sweet, percy," i smile back at him.
"So, what do you say? Would you teach me how to bake cookies now," he nudges my shoulder.
"hmmm.. maybe," i teased.
"oh come on, you said you would," he groaned. "yeah.. and you said you would let me do you hair, but here we are... not doing hair," i say.
"That's different!" he exclaimed.
"not exactly," i laugh.
———
Percy and I were doing our weekly night out at the bonfire.
We came out here every friday to catch up. I think it was just his excuse to hangout because we literally spend every day together so there's no point of catching up if the other already saw.
We were in complete silent for a couple minutes now. I was focused on the flames in the center. I don't know what percy was thinking of right now. Probably not much though.
"y/n... could i tell you something that's been bugging me," he speaks up.
I hum in response.
"Did annabeth ever tell you why we stopped being together," he kept his voice hush and low.
"uhhh.. no. She didn't," i told him. Why would he bring this up? The past is the past. Unless he's wanting to get back with her.
"I've never really talked to you before you know.. bumping into you that one day. But i knew so much about you," he tells me.
Well that's a bit creepy.
"Not to be creepy or anything," he quickly redeems himself.
"It's just.. annabeth and I weren't really doing so well after the first two months. Things kept happening coming between us. Events made it hard. But one thing that stuck out to me after the entire relationship was the way she talked about you. She told me how you two grew distant. She told me the things that made you.. you. You know the feeling when someone grows fond of an idol? Yeah, that was kind of like that. The way she spoke about you made me so intrigued. I actually tried talking to you before but you brushed me off. It didn't stop me though. At the tables i would see you sit by yourself and that made me always wonder why. You seemed so sweet and i don't know... annabeth described you perfectly. I also have my own thoughts on you, but I'll keep that to myself. All good things though," he rambles on.
I did not know what to say. I was honestly speechless.
"Did you... just confessed to stalking me, percy," i asked him.
"Oops?"
"What do you mean 'oops?' Percy, i don't even know what to describe you. Unbelievable?" I laughed.
He shrugs and laugh, "Moment of weakness?"
I hit him in the shoulder.
"Hey! That wasn't nice," he laughed.
I shrug, "oops?"
He rolls his eyes and laugh. "You know... it was like annabeth knew me and her were growing distant and she knew that we would be friends one day," he speaks up.
"well you know how she is... always six steps ahead," i smile.
He looks down at me.
"Hm? You didn't have this yesterday," he asks, holding up my wrist with my bracelet.
"Oh yeah, i made it this morning," i told him.
"It's cute," he smiles softly.
For once in my life, i felt acknowledged by someone that's not annabeth.
