when daedalus and icarus attempted to escape crete, they made wings.

daedalus flew steady and cautiously, his desperation keeping him humble, and his fear of being trapped again keeping him closer to the ground.

icarus took in the fresh air and the wind blowing across his cheeks, and his greed overpowered him. he took to the skies hungrily, appetite growing and growing as he flew to the sun, relishing in the way it felt on his skin. he reached out to touch the flames of the sun, and as his fingers brushed the tip of it, he plummeted back down to earth.

in the simplest of terms, CHARLOTTE GILBERT was to DAMON SALVATORE as the sun was to icarus. she made him greedy and hopeful, she made him feel warm and safe. he wanted to reach out and touch her, and have her consume him whole.

but as the story goes, the two can never truly be together. the sun burns too bright to ever be touched, and icarus can never quite make it to the surface without falling back down to earth.

though it is tragic, it is not without merit. and beneath all of the greed and selfishness of icarus, and the dangerous rays of the sun, it is love that remains. it is love that tells the story of charlotte and damon.
