"Does the back look good?" Destiny asks Chuck as she turned around so Chuck could see the back of her head. She had just finished braiding her hair, after taking a shower as she had been visibly dirty from the day. "It looks good," Chuck confirmed. "You excited for the bonfire?" She asked, grabbing her shoes and pulling them on.

"If you let me drink some of Gally's recipe, then I will be," Chuck said only to get a snicker from Destiny. "Not a chance, little man. Wait 'till you turn at least fifteen, then maybe I'll give you a sip," Destiny ruffled his hair as he pouted in response. "Fine," he huffed.

"Don't pout. Come on, let's have fun tonight."

Two hours later, Chuck watched with a small snicker as Destiny downed yet her fourth drink of the night. And, yes, she was drunk, not drunk enough to where she wouldn't remember anything, but drunk to where she could barely control her actions. But when she was drunk, she was way more fun. "Who keeps giving her more?" Gally took the glass out of her hand, "That was mine," Destiny tried to reach for it but their height difference did that no good. "You've had enough to drink, Des."

Destiny rolled her eyes and walked, or more, stumbled over to Minho, "Hi, Minho. How are you?" Her words slurred as she took a seat next to him on the log. "Drunk again, Des?" She nodded with a smile and reached for his glass but he moved it out of reach for her. "You've had enough for the night," he patted her back and she frowned, "You guys are no fun. I'm gonna find Newtie."

Destiny made her way over the log Newt and the Greenie were sat up against. "What are you guys talking about?" Destiny laid her chin on Newt's shoulder, "How much have you drank, Des?" Newt questioned as Destiny reached for his drink but he moved it away. "Not nearly enough," she sighed.

She then realized the Greenie was looking at her, "Oh hey. We haven't properly met yet. I'm Destiny." She stuck out her hand and he shook it, "I would tell you my name but I don't remember it," he replied. Destiny chuckled, "It's okay. You'll get it soon. You can call me Dessie, it's what my friends call me." Destiny pressed a small peck on Newt's cheek before climbing over to sit next to him.

"What job do you have around here?" The greenie asked, towards Destiny.

"Oh, well every week I'll wash clothes for everyone. Sometimes I'll help the med-jacks too but I kinda just do everything and anything I feel like doing that day. They only thing I don't do is the maze," Destiny answered. Newt nodded in confirmation, "For very good reason too." The spot was offered to her as she was extremely strong and fast and had the guts to do it but ever since she got there, she never wanted to go into the maze again. Not after she almost died in there.

"I love helping Gally though. He's so sweet and nice and smells good after he showers. And he's so protective over me and it's so cute. I love him so much but like in the love love way not like the way I love Newt because he's like my best friend ever after Gally though. But I also don't just wanna be his friend like I am friends with Newt. And am I talking too much or no?" Destiny rambled, a cute smile on her face that would make most of the boys melt. But Newt obviously never saw her in any romantic way like most of the gladers did.

"No, no it's okay. But, can you do me a favor?" Newt knew he had to find some way to sober her up or else she'd tell Gally himself that she loved him and that would be an absolute train wreck. "Of course, I can," Destiny nodded.

"Go find Fry, ask for some water and bread, okay?" Newt said slowly so she could comprehend it. "Okay, but why do you need water and bread?" She asked.

"I don't need it. But, you do. So you're going to eat the bread and drink the water. Then, just sit down with Chuck and relax, okay? And, do not talk to Gally until you understand what you're doing," Newt explained.

"Got it. I love you, Newt," Destiny smiled as she hugged Newt who returned it with a chuckle. "Love you too, Dessie," he patted her back softly and she stood up and began to make her way over to Frypan.

"Well she seems great," The greenie said. Newt chuckled, "she's much better sober. Once you get to know her, you'll love her. She's one of the best people I've ever met. I don't know what kind of monsters would ever want to hurt her," Newt mumbled the last part to himself, not intending for the Greenie to hear him but he did, and it made him curious. "What happened?"

Newt scratched his brow, debating on telling the greenie. "Okay, I'll tell you but you can't tell anyone. Only I know about it," he explained, gesturing the boy to lean in closer to he could whisper it. "The first week she got here, she started having like dreams, but they weren't really dreams. They were memories. She told me she had a dream about her head getting slammed into a wall. Next thing we knew, I seen a huge scar on the side of her head. I don't think that was a coincidence at all."

The new greenie glanced over at Destiny who appeared to be dancing with Chuck, "You think it was the people who put us here?" He asked. "What if she remembers more? What if she's our key?" He kept going with questions and Newt needed to change the subject. Bringing that up to Destiny would just hurt her even more. She was already dealing with traumatic flashbacks and making her think about them more than she needed to, wasn't necessary to him. Plus, it would piss Gally off.

"Right, that's enough talk about Destiny. Come on. You're supposed to be the guest of honor." Newt said, the greenie tried to decline but Newt obviously, insisted, "No! No, come on. Let me show you around. Come on."

Destiny took Chuck's hand and he did a spin and she dipped him playfully as he laughed, "Where'd you learn to dance?" Chuck asked as Destiny hummed a tune under her breath. "I'm not sure. It just comes naturally, I guess," she shrugged. "You're good at everything," Chuck compliments, twirling her and she laughed, almost falling into Frypan.

"There's Dessie, obviously. And there we got the builders," Newt spoke as he gestured to the group of boys, walking past Dessie and Chuck who continued their fun dancing with Frypan as well. "They're very good with their hands but not a lot going on upstairs," of course this couldn't be said for Gally who was actually a ton smarter than all of the builders.

"And then we got Winston... he's the Keeper of the Slicers," Newt gestured to the next group of boys as the greenie listened, not yet interrupting. "And we got two med-jacks, Clint and Jeff," Newt introduced, "Hey, what's up?" "Yo, Newt." They greeted as they walked past the two boys. "They spend most of their time bandaging up the slicers, Dessie often helps them out," Newt chuckled.

"What if I want to be a runner?" The Greenie asked.

"Have you listened to a word I've just said? No one wants to be a runner.,And, besides, you gotta get chosen," Newt responded, still not understanding why the greenie was so desperate to go into the maze. It's like he hasn't comprehended anything they said to him.

"Chosen by who?" Newt couldn't even answer before the greenie was almost knocked off his feet when one of the gladers Gally was fighting had been shoved out of the circle.

"What do you say, Greenie? Wanna see what you're made of?" Gally challenged. Chuck seen everything and dragged Destiny over in which she almost fell several times. She wasn't sober but she also wasn't super drunk anymore.

"Greenie! Greenie! Greenie!" Jeff, one of the med-jacks chanted on and everyone else caught on. They cheered louder when the greenie stepped forward, ultimately accepting the challenge.

"Okay. All right. The rules are simple, Greenie. I try to push you out of the circle...you try to last more than five seconds." Destiny let out a small chuckle as she leaned on Ben who kept her upright.

"Take it easy on him, Gally," Destiny commented and Gally just winked at her before turning back to the greenie.

"Ready?" Gally didn't even let the greenie get momentum before he shoved him into Zart and two other gladers who pushed him back into the fight. Gally grabbed the greenie once more and shoved him down, his face sliding against the dirt. "Come on, Greenie. We're not done yet," Gally taunted. Destiny watched, her breath hitching ever now and then, finding Gally really attractive in this moment.

The greenie stood up slowly, straightening up his shirt, "stop calling me Greenie."

"Stop calling you that? What do you wanna be called? Shank?" Gally retorted and the gladers all cracked a laugh. "What do you think, boys? Does he look like a Shank?" The greenie charged at Gally but ultimately got shoved back down, still not out of the circle though.

The gladers laughed as the greenie pulled himself back to his feet again. "You know what? I think I've settled on Shank." The greenie charged at Gally once more, going for some kind of tackle that Gally used his strength to hold back until the greenie moved out of it, making Gally fall into the dirt. "There you go, Greenie!" Destiny cheered. Gally wanted to roll his eyes hearing his girl cheer on someone else.

"Not bad for a Greenie, huh?" As soon as he said this, Gally swept his feet and the greenie fell harsly on the dirt, his head hitting the ground harshly. The greenie slowly got up, mumbling something in realization, "Thomas. Thomas. Hey!Thomas! I remember my name. I'm Thomas!"

Everyone froze, a bit shocked but Alby broke the silence first, "Thomas!" The gladers all gathered around Thomas, giving him friendly pats and handshakes. "Welcome home, Thomas," Frypan handed Thomas a glass of the alcoholic beverage. Thomas drank some and spit it into the air as everyone cheered. Destiny hugged Thomas with a grin, "Congratulations, Thomas," she pressed a small peck on his cheek, internally making some of the gladers jealous at the action.

Gally stepped forward, shaking Thomas's hand out of respect, "Good job...Thomas." Though before they could celebrate further, a loud echoing screech of a Griever shook everyone as they glanced at the maze walls.

"What the hell was that?" Thomas questioned.

"That, my friend, was a Griever. Don't worry, you're safe here with us. Nothing gets through those walls," Gally said.

"All right, guys. Let's tuck it in for the night. Come on. It was a good night," Alby said. The gladers all followed orders and began to head towards their hammocks or wherever they slept.

Destiny sat down against the log, watching the fire burn. She wasn't that tired so usually she'd stay up until everyone else fell asleep. Not a few minutes later, she felt someone sit next to her, and she automatically knew it was Gally. "You still drunk?" He quietly asked.

"Probably, maybe, a little bit." Destiny chuckled, taking another sip of the alcohol she stole from Frypan. She laid her head on his shoulder with a heavy sigh, "I feel like you're mad at me. Are you mad at me?"

Gally looked down at her, wondering if he should lie or not. "Nope."

"Liar," Dessie deadpanned. Gally rolled his eyes, "You're drunk, Des. You don't know what you're saying."

"I know when someone is lying to me, drunk or not. Why are you mad at me, Gally?" It didn't take her long to finally figure it out by the look on his face, "oh my god, you're jealous."

Gally furrowed his brows, pretending to be oblivious to what she was correctly implying. "How could I be jealous? It's not like you're my girlfriend," he scoffed. Destiny blinked, not expecting to hear that word said from him. She cleared her throat, "right. I'm sorry. I don't know what I was thinking. I'm just gonna go."

She quickly stood up, and if he didn't catch her, she would've fell face first into the dirt. Destiny looked at him, silently questioning how he was able to catch her that fast. "There's nothing to be sorry about. Cause you're right, I was jealous," he admitted.

"I don't get it. What could you possibly be jealous of? I don't like anyone here, at least not like that," Destiny said, steadying herself. He wanted to hope that didn't include him but the way she hadn't even done a single thing to prove that otherwise was a bit disappointing. "I don't know, Des, okay? I just- I don't know how I'm supposed to feel anymore. What even are we?" He questioned.

Destiny ran a hand over her hair, not sure how to answer that. She didn't really have a good answer for that. "I don't know. I thought we were best friends? We act like best friends, unless..you don't want to be best friends anymore?"

"What? No, I do. I wanna be your best friend, I don't want that to end," Gally said in confusion. Unknowingly to him, she was implying something else. "Oh, okay then," she didn't wanna sound disappointed so she quickly plastered a smile on her face, "great. Now that, that is settled. I'm gonna go to bed. I'll see you tomorrow."

Gally watched, not moving an inch as Destiny walked towards her cabin, both of them just as clueless about each other's feelings.

They were so close, yet so far away.
