Name ➤ Kaden Ellis Rhimes
Nicknames ➤ K, Mr. K, and/or Kade
Gender ➤ Male
District ➤ 5
Age ➤ 52 (as he won his games at 17 years old).
What Hunger Games Did He Win? ➤ He won the 40th hunger games.
Face Claim ➤ Mark Ruffalo
Distinguishing Features ➤ Kaden, because of his ascending to the middle ages, has already shown streaks of gray hair. His gray streaked hair is wavy-curly. For these games in particular, his beard and mustache is nicely shaved and will remain like that for the duration of the pre-games and hunger games period.
Additional Information ➤ After the games, he's had a difficult time keeping himself looking presentable; despite the efforts he makes to shave and trim his hair every now and then, his hair usually looks unkempt and he maintains this same energy throughout most of his body, including his arms and chest. Up until the games, he finally motivated himself to shave at least his arms and legs along with his face for a change, especially because he felt the urge to fix up the messy state he put himself in after his ridiculous Hunger Games. Despite his "unappealing" features, he does tend to flash a gorgeous pearly white smile, which adds even more beauty to his face in the eyes of his fellow district neighbors and victor acquaintances, so to speak. He's considerably big- not so much because of fat, but because of his muscle- though he has indeed gained weight since his last games, adding on to the problem of keeping himself in a promising condition.
Permanent Injuries➤ Nothing too big- just the scars from his medical procedures to heal him up upon his victory.
Personality ➤ Kaden is, unfortunately, more on the pessimistic side of things. After his nearly fatal leg injury and the PTSD he contracted from being in such a violent atmosphere, he kept to himself. He isolated himself from everyone else who did not live with or next to him in the Victor's Village, not wanting to be troubled by the commotion that happened in the busy part of District 5, which was where he always lived in prior to being reaped. He tried to aim his focus on his family; he'd soon go on to meet a girl he'd consider his first ever "true" love, but because of his annual return to his haunted past (through the means of hunger games mentorship), he decided that it (life) was all too overwhelming. He slowly began to lose sight of any glimmer of joy there could've been in the world around him. He is a quiet pessimist. Once again, with the exception of his family and close friend in the Victors Village, no one around him knows exactly what disdainful thoughts he has running through his mind; he's perceived as antisocial and reserved, but none of them truly knows why.
This plays into his favor in one way because he is less likely to brew up a storm in the district and he's able to engage with his observant side more, which will help him make strategic decisions, given that he tries hard to prevent any slither of remotely positive emotion from ever crossing his mind when pondering on things. He's more likely to accept his circumstances as them being just another part of his unfortunate fate as a district 5 victor, and perhaps this may make him more prone to thinking about how to make do with a current situation, rather than how to make it out of it. Other positive traits to consider is his inability to overcomplicate situations and stand out as an honest man; he doesn't sugarcoat his thoughts or attitudes towards those who ask for it.
On the contrary, his pessimism could lead him to make generalized exaggerations of the world- ones that he would be too stubborn to let go of until he sees physical proof before his eyes that things are not the way he thinks they seem. If he were to make allies, he could easily contaminate them with his negativity and bluntness; if he were to pursue victory for a second time by himself, he could drive himself crazy by bottling up his undesirable attitudes, as they take a heavy toll on his mental and emotional health every once and a while. He may hurt someone's feelings and struggle to understand why.
It's important to note that he's not really one to blow up and have a temper tantrum; he can be calm AND... in the very rare occasion that he does have some sort of optimism by his side, he demonstrates great perseverance, which in turn does away with some of his lazy tendencies and replaces them with a new fiery energy.
Family Background ➤ He's raised by his mother, his aunt, and his two cousins- cousins whom he refers to as brothers because of the close relationships fostered since he was born. His father and his uncle died due to unknown causes.
The 40th Hunger Games ➤ Kaden was reaped at 17 years old alongside his district partner, Alyssa. She was only 14, but she was one of the most intelligent kids in the district. Kaden, having almost a completely opposite demeanor thirty five years ago, was very excited to demonstrate his strategic wits and shine light on Alyssa's mastery on land mines. He actually believed that his district would have a chance at winning the Games this year and would assure himself and Alyssa that while none of them were proficient at weaponry, their hard work and intelligence would eventually outsmart the other competitors.
He formed an alliance with Alyssa and District 3's pair of tributes- Elixir and Fauna. The four fared well; the district three and district five tributes built booby traps and landmines around the supply of food Kaden and Fauna were able to retrieve from the outskirts of the cornucopia (without being immersed into a blood battle). This is very similar to the one the district 3 male from the 74th hunger games tried to set up, but they were much smaller and more strategic in their placement.
Having already blown three nearby tributes into bits within two days after the trap was built, the Careers stayed away from the pack and Fauna- who seemed to have a strength when it came to close distance weapons like knives- taught her fellow allies how to wield one. In return, Kaden introduced his allies to close combat and wrestling- something he'd grown good at because of his cousins.
Everything went absolutely well until the day before the Feast (about a week after the start), where the Career pack dared to try and decipher the trap with the help of a District 6 female tribute, Zara, who was also presumably intelligent and good with the mechanics of things underground. Elixir and Alyssa were keeping guard while Kaden and Fauna went to go hunt for some food with a make shift spear and Fauna's knife; they were really the only viable weapons the alliance had, a part from a couple other small knives they left behind at camp, so Elixir and Alyssa were unfortunately at a great disadvantage when the invasion happened.
While Elixir wanted to stay behind and shout for Kaden and Fauna to come over, Alyssa told him it would be to no avail and that it was better if they tried to fight them off by attempting to throw knives- or tricking them into thinking that. When Zara was right there to a pack of food that was in one of the first of few bags, Alyssa raced forward enough to get close without setting off a trap and threw a knife at Zara, which caused Zara to loose balance and fall to her death by setting off a trap. Now why is this important?
Despite protecting the food in the middle, it began to set off other nearby traps that would then deactivate the entire "system" the alliance built in overall. Alyssa and Elixir took this as a chance to rush around and scare them off by throwing knife by knife until only Alyssa was left with the only one. While half the Career pack raced ahead to get the food, the other half weren't so much as threatened by the knives as they were annoyed, yet slightly amused. The District 3 and 5 tributes tried their hardest to practice some close combat and knife skills, but Alyssa would find herself getting stabbed in the throat by her own knife and, while Elixir was about to crawl away with a bruised head and a slashed leg, he was granted a quick end once the knife one of the Careers who killed Alyssa held lodged itself behind his back.
Kaden was distraught, but was determined to do his best to be the survivor. On the day of the Feast, supplies to enhance the deactivated booby trap and a long sword (one possibly for Kaden's alliance and the other possibly for the Career alliance) awaited the remaining seven tributes; the Careers, Kaden and Fauna, and a District 8 male. As much as Kaden hated to admit it, he knew that he wouldn't do much with his supplies- if he were to make it out with them- without the aid of additional sponsors, and somehow he equated this to showing his newfound skills with weaponry and his hatred towards the Careers.
He sent Fauna to stealthily sneak her way to the cornucopia while he sneaked away to the other side; they got their early so the Careers hadn't made their way yet. Once he gave her the okay, Fauna ran ahead, grabbing both the supplies and the sword... and thats when he ran up to meet her, only it wasn't to join her in the running but rather to trip her, attack her and brutally bash her head against the concrete. He left her to die after taking her knife, only whispering a mere 'I'm sorry I had to do this' to a dying and betrayed Fauna; and thats when he was met by the shrilling screams of the District 8 male, who just got stabbed to death by one of the Careers. Upon hearing his Canon, he tried to run with the two items on both hands, but he'd eventually trip over too many times to where the Careers were close by him.
How did he avoid the likely death that could've and should've (logically speaking) arrived? He gave them the element of surprise and threw his knife at one of the oncoming Careers, smack dab in the middle. To his pleasant surprise, the knife found its way to the Career's chest- the Career that killed Alyssa (though he didn't know)- and his body stumbled onto the Careers behind him. It gave him enough time to run and eventually loose track of them.
Kaden, to his pleasant surprise AGAIN, received a lot of sponsors, including medical aid for the injuries he obtained, a pack of throwing knives, and a chest-plate item that could be worn beneath his shirt and give an extra layer of protection.
The following night, he returned to his old camp and barely slept to construct his sophisticated booby trap. He then climbed up a nearby tree to rest and, when morning, watch out for the three remaining Careers- and tributes overall for that matter. When the Careers arrived, he immediately began to, gradually, throw his knives at the Careers who have spotted him. While only very few landed in not-so-impactful spots, he got them close enough to his trap. He jumped from the tree onto the other side of his trap and jeered at them for not having been able to grab the sword. While one of the Careers tried to shoot from behind, the other two ran up to Kaden and, low and behold, they weren't smart enough to think about falling for another booby trap.
They got electrocuted several times before eventually falling dead on the ground. While they convulsed about, Kaden used his time wisely to go around the tree and race after the remaining Career tribute- a District 2 female named Eris. He managed to dodge three of six of her arrows- the other three hitting his chestplate beneath his shirt- and engaged in a bloody brawl with the Career.
Thanks to his strength and fast reflexes, he was able to pin her down, but his lack in expertise with weapons showed as he struggled to sink the sword through her. As a result, his last kill was very sloppy, but he managed to do it.
TL;DR: Kaden allied with his own district partner and the District 3 tributes to outsmart them with their knowledge on electricity and mechanisms, as well as developing basic yet fundamental fighting skills that would eventually lend Kaden the victory. He had to betray Fauna and sacrifice his warm and welcoming side to eventually be crowned victor. He was intelligent and sly, but also, in the end, very traumatized by the Games itself.
Personal Background ➤ There is barely anything to be said of Kaden of his personal background; he was raised with no father due to unknown circumstances that remain unknown to this day. He was raised with good morals and educated as properly as possible by his mother, aunt, and two older cousins. While he led a pretty normal life as a District 5 citizen, his world would soon turn upside down after his victory. Despite his escape from the rough life in District 5 alongside his family, he would continue to be haunted by the nightmares in which several grueling scenes would be replayed over and over again. He would lose even more hope for recovery as he was forced into fulfilling his mentorship duties to no avail; his tributes would lose, Game after Game after Games. He eventually lost himself, causing himself to lose a one of a kind girlfriend, Blaire, and thus plummeted his mental and emotional health, along with the health of his loved ones who lived with him.
Up to now, Kaden has been cleaning up his act gradually- not because his pessimistic mentality is starting to go away, but because he felt absolutely uncomfortable in his unhygienic state. But it also convinced him that perhaps he'll have an easier time accepting the negative circumstances if he at least hid his troubles with a decent look.
Weapons/Special Skills ➤ Close Combat, Wrestling, Electricity and Mechanics, Land Mines, and Close Distance Fighting with Knives.
Any Addictions?➤ None at the moment, although if being alone and isolated for as long as possible was an addiction, then that would count.
Triggers?➤ The slightest mention of any of his allies- especially Fauna. He also strives to avoid lectures on his worsening state after the Games, as that is one of the FEW things that CAN cause an outburst.
Token?➤ A matching wristband one of his cousins bought for him at the District 5 shop.
