"don't you worry, hotch. it'll be okay. i don't want to work over at the pentagon, but strauss isn't giving me that choice. emily said that the new recruit is an amazing at what she does," jennifer jereau had told her boss that morning.
"we'll miss you, jj. take care," aaron hotchner replied, looking over at the glass doors at the front of the behavioral analysis unit in quantico, virginia. the new girl had just walked through the door, boxes and bags in hand, ready to move in. aaron nodded to jj before walking out of the room to go meet the newest member of his team.
"agent jones, it's great to have you. this is dr. spencer reid, ssa dave rossi, and--"
"emily prentiss. long time no see, girl," the new recruit finished for him. emily went in to hug her best friend, a smile growing on both of their faces.
"this grumpy old man is our unit chief, aaron hotchner," agent prentiss introduced for him. he reached his hand out to emerson.
"pleasure to finally meet you, ms. jones. if you'll allow me, I'd like to show you to your office now." he held out his hand, and she smiled, shaking it.
"that would be great, thank you." her voice was soft and smooth, radiating a warmth throughout the room.
"let me take these for you," her boss suggested, taking the stack of boxes from ellisyn and leading the way to her new office. the room was small altogether, yet still roomy. she didn't need much; as long as she had a desk and some sort of an organizer, she would be totally set.
"thank you, agent," she smiled, shaking his hand after he had put the files down.
"please, it's hotch."
"well thank you, sir. i really appreciate the warm welcoming. it's so great to finally be here."
"we're glad to have you." he gave a curt nod before walking out. "oh and agent? the rest of the team would love to get to know you."
she smiled and nodded, setting her things down and arranging them on the desk accordingly. she had always had a knack for making things look clean and organized, especially when they weren't. she set up her pens in one of the mason jars she had brought, and put pencils in the other. she set out her sticky notes beside the jars, as well as a bin with some of her favorite snacks. she thought about it for a second before moving the bin to one of her drawers. she knew that she would spend a lot of time in here, so she might as well make herself comfortable. when she was content with her work, she walked out of her room and headed for the bullpen. the man she remembered as doctor reid jumped up to greet her first.
"did you know that only 11.3% of new employees that choose to work in an office space actually get their own office? it's said that--"
"reid, buddy, you're gonna scare her away," a new face said, stopping reid right in his tracks. he sighed.
"sorry about that, he loves his facts," the man said, smiling at emerson. he held out his hand. "derek morgan, pleasure to meet you."
"the pleasure is mine," emerson grinned, looking over at emily, who rolled her eyes.
"em, do not encourage him--"
"encourage me all you'd like, ma'am," he smirked, earning yet another eye roll from his coworker.
"you're pathetic," she stated.
"and you, miss thang, are a fun sucker." derek poked her in the shoulder, and emily glared, swatting him away.
"i will cut you, morgan. don't try me."
emerson laughed. "well, it really was nice to meet you all, but i think hotch has some case files that he wants me to look over. i suppose i'll see you all later."
"well, hey, before you leave, you're still staying over aren't you?"
"yeah, the people who currently own the house i'm moving into don't move out for another two weeks," emerson told emily.
"sweet, i can tell you about the sin to win night i was telling you about."
derek's head snapped up. "so she gets to know but I don't?!"
"aww buddy it's okay we can't all be me," she joked, poking her bottom lip out at patting derek on the head.
"you're dead to me," he laughed, shaking his head.
"oh no. what ever shall i do with my life now." they all laughed, and with that, she had concluded the meeting of her team. now she could really get to work.
✧✧✧
"emme you're home!!" emily squealed as emerson walked through the front door of her best friend's apartment. she ran up to her and nearly body slammed her.
" you just saw me, you dork!" she laughed.
"yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever, but i can't hug you at work cause it's 'unprofessional' and hotch would have an absolute fit."
"hotch needs to get laid. like bad."
"emme, i sure hope you aren't suggesting hooking up with our boss," she smirked.
"girl, you said it not me," emerson said, putting her hands up in defeat.
"i hate you, oh my God!" emily laughed, hitting her upside the head.
"sure you do," she winked.
"i love you beebee, thank you for letting me stay with you. it means the world to me."
"oh girl, you know i've got you. can't have you staying with hotch and getting railed by our boss."
"jesus christ i forgot how much i hate you. anyways, what are we doing tonight?"
"well its finally the weekend. do you wanna go out? the team's been wanting to get together, plus they wanna get to know you, so maybe we can go to the bar or go clubbing?" emily suggested.
"that sounds like fun. can we do that tomorrow night, though? jet lag's kicked in and i just wanna chill out."
"sure, i'll put on a movie and get the snacks. how to lose a guy in ten days sound good?"
"ugh yes, you know me the best, em. love you!" emerson called out, moving towards one of her luggage bags.
"love you most! there's a guest room upstairs, or you can stay in my room. either one is fine with me, babes," emily replied over her shoulder while pouring a bowl of chips.
"you know i love your room. hey, i'm gonna go change into some pj's--"
"top drawer if you want."
"SWEET!"
emerson loved wearing emily's clothes. they fit perfectly and she always smelled good. she walked over to the dresser and opened the top drawer. oh how she had missed her best friends soft t-shirts. she slipped the day's clothes off and put them in the hamper in the corner. she grabbed the neatly folded ACDC graphic tee and pulled it on over her head. she didn't bother finding shorts. she knew emily wouldn't care.
"I swear to god you make me think i'm gay," emily said from the doorway. emme turned around.
"right back at you," she laughed. "so listen, we're out of the barbecue chips, and i know that's all you'll eat, so i'm gonna head out to the store. you coming with? we can grab the stuff to make some of those cake pops you love!"
"let's get on it then," she grinned.
