FELIX AND MARZIA HAD LEFT the house about an hour ago. They had slapped a twenty on the kitchen counter for Lorelai to order pizza before getting in their car to go out on a date with large smiles and shared giggles. Every once in a while the couple would go out on a date, leaving Lorelai home alone with no one but the dogs to keep her company. Not that that was a bad thing, though. Date nights were beneficial for both sides; Felix and Marzia got some alone time to have fun together, and Lorelai got some peace and quiet to do whatever she pleased.

It was still raining outside. When Lorelai had woken up that morning she had noticed it was only drizzling, but throughout the afternoon it had grown stronger until it was at the same strength it had been during Lorelai's stream the night before. Contrasting to the night before, Lorelai couldn't hear the rain as well. After seeing the tips of Lorelai's fingers turning blue when she left her room after her stream, Marzia had closed the girl's window and told her not to open it until the storm passed. While she knew Marzia was only doing it because she cared about her, Lorelai couldn't help but stare longingly at the rain outside of the big floor to ceiling windows in the living room. Rain sound effects weren't as effective as the real thing.

She had long since given up on paying attention to the episode of Breaking Bad on the television. It was one of those days where nothing seemed interesting to her; even the rain outside was growing boring the longer she stared at it. Without the open windows, it was like a silent movie. Faint noises could be heard from the rain on the roof, but the audio from Breaking Bad covered up most of it.

Lorelai turned back to the tv, picking up the remote and clicking the off button. Might as well be productive. She got up from the couch and started the walk to her bedroom. Each step on the slippery wooden floor in the orange fluffy socks she had yet to remove threatened to make her fall, and moving too fast would result in the same fate. Lorelai imagined that walking on ice felt the same way as she reached for random pieces of furniture to use for support. Had the floors been waxed or something earlier that day?

Her phone buzzed in her pocket, and she pulled it out. She had reached the stairwell, and, deciding not to crack her skull open by texting while walking, Lorelai took a break from walking and unlocked her phone.

LORELAI POCKETED HER PHONE and walked up the stairwell. She clutched onto the handrail dearly, but she let go right when her foot touched the second floor landing. Using the slipperiness of the floor to its full extent, she slid down the hallway to her bedroom, almost overshooting and resorting to gripping onto her door frame to stop her slide before she could crash into the wall.

Her PC struggled to life, eventually loading up her background of some random beach she found off of Pinterest. Among Us took barely a second to load, and before she knew it, she was typing in the code sent to her in the discord server and joining the voice call.

"Hello," she greeted everyone.

Tons of greetings filled her ears. She hadn't started a stream out of fear for making everyone annoyed by waiting too long, but in the voicechat she could see the little 'live' button next to Lily, Toast, Greaseball, Sykkuno, Rae, and Fuslie's names.

"Hi, Lorelai," Corpse said after everyone else had said their hellos. "How are you?"

"I'm good," Lorelai replied. "Felix and Marzia went out on a date so I've just been sitting around on my own."

"That's so sweet," Lily giggled. "Where'd they go?"

"I'm not too sure, they either went to dinner or the mini golf place nearby," Lorelai replied. "I remember Marz telling me how the place finally reopened."

The countdown appeared on everyone's screens, and Lorelai muted herself quickly. With a sigh of relief, she read the word 'crewmate' on her screen when it appeared.

Playing Among Us felt different when she wasn't streaming. She could let her face fall, sit in silence, and feel comfortable knowing she wasn't being broadcasted out to the world at every second. As much as Lorelai liked streaming, it could be nerve-racking at times to know that anyone could see her while she was streaming. Sitting in silence, playing a game with her friends, and feeling unjudged was something she wanted to get used to.

They spawned into the spaceship on Polus—Lorelai's favorite map by a landslide. It was probably her favorite just because it was the easiest for imposters to win on. The spread out atmosphere of the map made getting away from the scene of the crime a walk in the park. While Lorelai liked to think of herself as an amazing imposter, she wouldn't deny that getting extra help from the map proved itself useful in many situations.

"So, the body is on cams," Fuslie said as the voting screen popped up with Greaseball, Sykkuno, and Michael's names crossed off a few minutes later.

"I was in specimen," Michael stated, "Lily passed through and headed up to med a second before the body got called."

"Any sus?" Lorelai asked.

Eventually it was decided that nobody was suspicious, and the vote was voted by all but one anonymous person who voted for Corpse. Lorelai went on her way completing tasks, simply minding her own business. She didn't want to be caught up in anything, and every time she saw someone she would turn around and run the other way just for fun. Lorelai had never really been one to try hard games anyways.

Another meeting was called, this time with Corpse dead as well. Fuslie was voted off, and they were down to five. Within thirty seconds, Michael killed Lorelai and he and Rae won as imposters. It was quick and easy, and congratulations were passed around the call.

Now that she had a chance to start streaming, Lorelai found herself not wanting to. She just wanted to relax and play a game with some friends without the pressure of streaming. Did that make her selfish? Streaming was her job, after all.

She turned her gaze onto her left monitor and noticed the deafen signal show up next to Michael's name in the discord call. As Lorelai continued to stare at his name, the live button popped up next to it as well. Great. Everyone but her and Corpse were streaming now.

With a small sigh, Lorelai checked to see if she was unmuted and told the call, "I'm gonna start my stream real quick."

Not even waiting for their responses, Lorelai deafened herself and opened up her Twitch. She took a minute to make sure everything was in the proper condition before going live and watching the viewers flood in. She didn't necessarily have time to wait five minutes for people to join, so she skipped putting her 'stream will be starting soon' screen up and went straight to smiling and waving at her webcam.

"Hello!" She exclaimed. "Hi everyone! I hope you're all good! Today I don't have time to do my waiting screen and stuff, so let's get straight into it. I'm going to be streaming Among Us today with some friends, and it's going to be very calm and relaxed because I happen to be very tired today."

She went undeafened herself in the call again and heard her friends' voices flood into her ears.

"Alright, I'm ready," she told them.

Lorelai muted herself straight away, not even waiting for the countdown to happen. She wanted to read her chat as much as possible before she got her role and would have to look away, and she didn't need her friends listening in on her doing so.

As Lorelai placed her attention back on her center monitor, she saw the crewmate screen fade away. She sighed and minimized her chat on her left monitor. That was the issue with starting your stream at a different time than others; it often turned out kind of weird. She didn't really expect too many viewers, so she supposed her lack of waiting for people would be alright.

Her brown avatar made its way around the map, going in and out of storage to refuel the engines at first. Making her way to the left, she passed Toast in electrical where he appeared to be doing a download task and continued going down to the boiler room where she began doing the waterways task.

Lily walked into the room and did a little dance next to Lorelai. She smiled and returned the gesture. There hadn't been a lot of interactions between Lily and Lorelai in the past, but Lily seemed really sweet whenever Lorelai talked to her. They just didn't seem to run in the same streamer group most of the time. Lorelai usually streamed with Pewdiepie and his friends for the most part seeing as strangers intimidated her, but she and Lily did have Sykkuno as a close mutual friend.

Toast and Michael appeared, their avatars heading into boiler and quickly double killing Lily and Lorelai. The latter girl laughed, slapping a hand over her mouth as she giggled over the ruthlessness of Lily's boyfriend. She quickly opened up the chat in her upper right corner.

lorelai
so

lorelai
ur boyfriend just killed me

lily
i know :(

SHE CONTINUED TO LAUGH, her strange interaction with Lily filling her with a bit more energy. At least dying first meant she could look at her chat and talk to them, even if she didn't necessarily want to be streaming in the first place.

The heavy rainfall had gotten even worse, and the once quiet raindrops on the roof had turned into moderately loud ones. The storm really was getting worse day by day. Even with her window down (per Marzia's request) Lorelai could still hear the water banging down on the roof and flowing through the gutters. Hopefully it wasn't fucking up her audio too much.

She deafened herself once again as voices began to speak up. It seemed Toast had found their bodies in the boiler room. Lorelai reopened her chat and began to read it.

"Well, chat, at least we know who it is," Lorelai said.

The noises of nails against wood could barely be heard as Maya walked up to Lorelai's gaming chair. The younger pug looked up at her expectantly, her big brown eyes begging for attention from the only person in the house. Lorelai complied and picked up the dog, holding her to her chest and gently kissing the top of her head.

The game continued on with small talk happening between Lorelai and her chat. Lorelai completed her tasks as quickly as she could before deciding to follow around innocent crewmates until they died. She had switched her controls so that she could play with only her right hand on the mouse; Maya was being quite selfish and demanded that Lorelai's left hand should be used to hold her to her chest. Lorelai supposed she didn't really mind. Having one selfish dog demanding for her attention was better than her lonely apartment back in Munich.

Eventually the round came to an end with the crewmates winning. Lorelai undeafened herself on the call and flinched as the sound came out much louder than it should've. She quickly turned down her volume with a squeak before checking on Maya who was very unhappy with her sudden movements.

"Lorelai? You okay?" Corpse asked.

"Yeah," she replied, her voice a couple octaves higher than usual due to her recent fright. "Yeah, my volume just came out at like fucking one hundred again."

"Aw, did Rory get scared?" Rae teased.

"Shut up," Lorelai groaned. Her throat felt weird from practically squawking out of fright and the higher octave just wouldn't shake away. At least she hadn't freaked out hearing Corpse speak again. Streaming with him the day before had been a mental reset for the girl and she was still unsure why she had reacted the way she had to his voice. His voice still sent shivers down her spine, but at least now that she knew him a little better it had calmed down.

"Hey, so, I've got maybe one more game left in me before I've gotta end my stream and take a nap," Toast announced, making the rest of the call laugh.

"That's okay," Sykkuno replied, "does anyone have someone that can take Toast's spot when he leaves?"

The call quietened down as everyone collectively thought about anyone who could join their game.

"Yeah, I've got someone," Michael replied.

"Great!" Rae exclaimed. "Toast you better pop off in your final round."

Laughter filled the call once again, and Lorelai felt an uncontrollable smile make its way onto her face.

She felt good, and she couldn't quite put her finger on why.
