Bury it in the Back Yard

I ran around the rooms searching for her. I turned the knob of the bathroom but it was locked. I pressed my palm on the door and called to her.
"Ellie? Ellie, its me. Its your big brother, open the door." There was only silence.
"Ellie. Please dolly, open the door for me." I heard a faint whimper.
"Ellie, I know you're scared but you need to open the door so I can see you." I tried to keep my voice calm and soothing. I heard her sniff and then I heard shuffling. The door clicked and I pushed it open to see her crouching with a tear streaked face. She looked up at me with a sudden fear in her eyes. I looked down and realized I was covered in blood. I lifted my shirt off and used it to wipe my face.
I knelt down by her and watched her cower at my presence. My chest hurt knowing she was afraid of me now.
"Ellie, its ok now. I took care of it. Its gone." She nodded and we wrapped eachother in a hug. I craddle her in my arms and we sat on the bathroom floor, tears dropping from both of our eyes.
We heard dads car pull back over the twigs and I lifted myself from the ground. "Stay here, Ellie, and wait for me to say its ok."
She nodded. I hated leaving her alone like that but I didn't want her to see mom. I shook as I walked down the hall and turned right, not looking at the corpse.
I opened the door before my dad could knock and I looked at him, covered in blood. He breathed heavily and looked as if he'd been to hell and back. But that didn't stop him from noticing my puffy red eyes and blood splattered pants. He looked at me, waiting for an explanation.
"Mom." I said faintly.
He rushed passed me and into the living room. There was sound of low growling. He took a few carfle steps then something jumped out at him. He lifted up a gun I didn't know he had and fired at its head. I held my hands over my mouth when I saw my mom crumble to the floor.
I opened my mouth to scream or say something but I could only make noises.
What the hell? Wasn't she already dead?!
My dad knelt down next to her bloody body and wept. I stood behind him, doing the same.
After a few seconds he drug his arm over his eyes and stood. "Ellie?"
I still couldn't speak. I took him to the bathroom where my little sister sat in a heap of tears and shivers. My dad scooped her up and took her to another room. It was unspoken but we both knew that we had to keep her away from the living room while we thought of how to clean the mess.
I most certainly did not have the strength to even look at my blood soaked pants, much less remove two bodies from the livingroom carpet; one of which is my mom.
For the rest of the day dad and I swotched off caring for Ellie, trying to get her to sleep. Meanwhile, the other would be securing the house and trying to start cleaning up the dead bodies. I found a set of large, thick wooden boards and nailed them over where the glass door used to be. The covered most of the door way but there was still a pinky width gap between each one. Just to be safe, I moved the couch over to act as a total barachade.
I was glad my shift was over before I got to the bloody mess on the ground. I got a bad taste in my mouth everytime I passed that area.
I laid down with Ellie and tried to get her to sleep by singing to her. When she looked as if she was drifting I started to hum to be more quite. Finally I had succeeded in making her sleep. She was so tramatized she hardly had a moment when her eyes were dry.
My father and I, in our shifts, had covered the windows with sheets and boarded up most of the doors. It seemd secure but the only thing left to do was to get the boidies out.
When I came to the living room to tell dad Ellie was asleep, I was relived to find both the bodies gone.
I went out the front door and turned to the left to see my dad burning one body and burying the other. Tears filled his eyes but her forbode them from spilling. Without a word I grabbed another shovel and started to help him.
We covered the body with the pile of dirt set to the side of the hole. When we finished we looked at each other, both thinking the same thing; ' you better cry now, because you can't ever to it in front of Ellie.'
We burst into tears and held each other, balling our eyes our. We muffled our sobs in eachothers shoulders.
At last, we pulled away and gave each other an 'I love you' pat and went into the house. With a locked and chained door I went to check on lil sis. She was sound asleep, her tears finally dry.
I returned to the living room where I began mopping with my dad. I felt almost as bad as I did when I buried her, but I held it in. From now on, I would need to be strong, for my family.
