1963.

brielle was in the common room enjoying the music on the record player playing next her. it was playing some basic 60s slow music, things she had to get used to being trapped in the past. as she was waiting for lila to get back from the bathroom, diego walked into the room in a hurried manner and sat next to her, where lila originally sat. she was confused at first why he was so focused on sitting next to her but she brushed it off.

"hey diego! who visited you?" brielle started a conversation, curious as to who diego talked to, as he hasn't had a visitor since he joined. "y'know, i don't get any visitors, but that's because i don't know anyone in texas. i'm from washington."

"who are you, really?" diego interrogated. his voice was deep and low, his eyes full of rage. "i need the truth. don't lie."

"brielle abrams," she replied, nonchalantly, but with a slight tone of question. she was slightly hurt that he didn't respond to her question at all and was mad at her, though. but she hid it well. "i don't understand. what's happening?"

"gathering information. looking for answers. whatever." diego shook his head and focused back into the conversation. "five- i mean," diego cleared his throat, obviously accidentally saying five instead of a fake or code name. "my brother. he visited me and gave me this photograph. he asked me if i knew anyone who looked like this woman."

diego handed her a small 4x6 photo that was folded neatly in his pocket before. she opened it and flipped it over to see a scribbled and bad hand writing that was slightly incomprehensible but was made out as "commerce and knox". she flipped it back over to inspect the photo. it was her in an alleyway behind a building with a bright blue light floating above her.

"me and my family arrived with this same blue flash from 2019. who are you and how did you get here? i need answers, brielle."

she groaned, she had never been interrogated like this from someone she had just met. she handed the photo back to diego. "look, i don't think you'll understand. and even if you did, what would you be doing with this 'information'?" brie used air quotes on the word information to get her point across.

"try me." diego's expression was cold and dark. brielle bit her lip slightly, tucked her hair behind her ears and started playing with her bracelet. diego moved in his seat slightly, coughing and readjusting himself to be closer to brie.

"my name is brie. i was born in 1989.. and when i was young i found a briefcase on side of the road and when i opened it up, a blue light brought me back to the 1950s. i've been locked up ever since."

"briefcase.." diego muttered to himself quietly. he was confused. five was also trying to get a briefcase that could transport them. maybe this was the same one. "brielle. i know you were born october first. so was i. so was my entire family. we all have superpowers."

"where are you going with this?" brie questioned diego with a slight tone of attitude. she leaned forward in her chair, trying to remain quiet and unheard from the guards. there faces were closer together, their breathing in sync.

"you have powers. or most likely," diego whispered.

"so many people are born on october 1st, 1989 that don't have superpowers, diego." brielle stopped, weighing her options. he already knows and she really can't lie to him anymore if she wanted out of there. "maybe. you don't know. and i don't have to tell you."

"that's what someone with powers would say. any normal person would report me for being insane even just considering you have powers." diego smirked. "also i saw you use them when i was leaving."

"fine," brie paused, getting ready to release her secrets. "i can shapeshift into anyone i want, obviously i need to know what they look like before doing so. which explains how you saw me form into you."

"that makes sense. but why haven't you used your powers to escape? just transform into a staff member and walk out."

"you think i haven't tried that, diego? i transformed into the nurse over there but halfway through the hallway a security guard came up to me and started flirting with me. what the fuck was i supposed to say?" brielle paused pointing to the nurse she had mentioned, laughing slightly at her stupidity and misfortune. "got straight-jacketed for a while."

"that's an interesting power," diego paused. "but not as good as mine."

"why what's your power?"

"i can throw knives very percicley without missing," diego boasted. he was so proud of his special abilities that brie couldn't help but laugh. in retaliation, diego took out a pencil from his pocket and threw it right over brielles head, just missing by a few centimeters. brie gasped slightly, scared that she could've gotten hurt.

"that was hot. but you missed."

a guard had noticed this conversation and him throwing the pencil so he alerted some nurses and doctors to come and restrain him. two male nurses ran in, slamming him down on a table nearby, holding him down while another nurse injected him with a mysterious sedative.

brie sat there and watched. she had been through this process before and one time fully awake when she was a lot younger, kicking and screaming all the way to the padded room. she could have helped diego, but she knew it would make a good story for him to boast about later.

diego woke up to find himself in a padded room, tied in a straight jacket all alone. he stood up slowly, struggling slightly. when he finally succeeded, he ran over to the wall, slamming his shoulder out of its pocket and dislocating it. he wiggled his arm out, eventually getting his whole top off.

he walked over to the door, getting a small bobby pin that he had stolen from lila earlier and jamming into the lock. he lock picked the door and opened it before leaning out both sides, peaking to make sure he wasn't going to get caught, before leaning against the wall for support. he stumbled out, limping briskly down the hall.

the lights suddenly turned off and the red emergency lights flickered on and off slowly, creating a scary ambiance for diego to escape in. diego passed a corner, before getting caught by a male nurse.

"diego, what are you doing here?"

he quickly came up with an excuse for what he was doing. "i'm- i'm sleepwalking." diego put one arm up to indicate a stereotypical walk for people who are asleep.

"sir!" someone yelled from behind diego. diego turned to look and saw a security guard walk slowly up to them. "there's no need for any further interrogation, i'll take him back to his cell where he belongs."

diego knew he was in trouble and all his efforts were futile and wasted. the guard rested his hand on diego's shoulder, and when he went to look at it, he saw a very familiar bracelet on the guys wrist. the same bracelet that brielle always stimmed with when she was anxious or bored. he looked back up at the guard realizing it was brie, morphed into a staff member like he had suggested earlier. she winked right at him before quickly going back into character.

before the male nurse could open his mouth again, a large bed pan was slapped across his face, knocking him out and sending him to the ground. diego gasped but sighed with relief immediately after seeing lila also here to rescue him, and bri laughing at the nurses dent in his head. sure she was a little screwed in the head, but not nearly enough to be locked up for life.

"i knew you were plotting something. and since we were also planning something, we decided to combine our efforts and save your ass." brielle boasted, patting diego's back before morphing back into herself.

"you're not the only one who wants out, wolf man!" lila exclaimed, who ran over to diego to help him up.

diego groaned in pain. "eugh, watch my shoulder."

the trio was up and going now. but before they started walking, lila came up close to diego, leaning in a little too close for brie's comfort. a little part in here wanted to push lila away, even if she didn't know diego for a long time. brielle's jealousy was short lived however, and as she watched the scene play out, lila snapped diego's shoulder back into place and howled loudly like a wolf. she sighed, relieved that they weren't about to kiss. even knowing diego for just a few days, and couldn't help but shake this feeling in her stomach every time she saw him. god, she hated it.

brie howled too, in excitement she was about to leave, see the outside world for the first time in over a decade. both brielle and lila laughed as they walked the hallways of the building, brie sometimes skipping down the hallway in excitement and spinning around.

however, when they turned a corner they saw 3 older men with white hair and guns. the men looked agressive and definitely not friendly. brie froze in fear, but was able to snap out of her trance before running away with everyone else. avoiding the gunfire, the turned the corner and ran down the hallway across from them.

"who are those guys?" lila screamed as they ran down the hallways and into a storage room.

"no idea." diego replied, out of breath, turning the corner and avoiding the storage room.

"what are you doing? come on!" brielle whispered yelled to him, trying to be discreet while hiding.

"we need a distraction. hold on!" before diego entered the storage room, he ran into the comms room and turned on the fire alarm and emergency lights, opening all the prisoners doors. they closed the door quickly behind them, hiding from the 3 men.

they ran down the basement passageways, that for the years brielle was here had no idea existed before that day. sprinting as fast as they could, brie was falling a bit behind. turning into diego, she ran quickly ahead of them. diego muttered a quick 'what the fuck' before focusing again and continuing to run.

they entered a 4 way intersection, unsure of where to turn next. they decided to turn right but eventually ran into two security guards who were jogging from the opposite direction. as everyone fell over, brielle quickly turned back into herself and stood up.

"thank god you're here. three men just tried to attack us." brielle said, out of breath. before she could explain any further, one guard took his gun out his pocket and held it up in front of her face. lila gasped, but not as loudly as brie.

"wait you don't understand. we're not the bad guys," diego tried to explain quickly.

"shut your mouth and stay on the ground," the other guard yelled from the floor.

before the guards could attack brie, lila started hitting and punching the man with the gun, releasing it from his grasp and throwing him to the floor. brielle was shocked at how well she was able to bring down an adult man, knowing lila was in here almost as long as herself.

"dude, how the fuck," brielle whispered.

"where'd you learn how to fight like that?" diego questioned lila.

"my mother." lila paused for a second but retorted in a sassy tone.

diego stood up and stood next to brie. she was gasping for air, shocked that she could have almost died at that moment. diego comforted her by interlocking his hand with hers. The sudden touch sent a pleasurable electrifying jolt through her body, leaving her speechless. before turning to diego. he nodded comfortingly. she nodded back, more serious this time and focused in on the task at hand.

they ran down the hallway, ready to escape. diego's hands were still holding hers, but she couldn't care less about that right now, even if her cheeks were red and her heart was beating a little faster than it had been before.
